02x01 - The Case of the Too Energetic Town/The Case of the Astonishing Absence/The Case of the Cancelled Competition

Post by bunniefuu »

Did a word that's important to you go missing?

And now all you can feel, do, or think

is the opposite of that word?

Then call us!

-I'm Sly. -And I'm Gabby.

We're Word Detectives, and we solve...

[both] Word Mysteries!

Together, we run the Wordsville Online Detective Agency.

We'll find your missing word, fast.

-Not to mention, briskly. -And swiftly.

Yeah, we're really good with words.

[kids] Wordsville!

Sly, what are you doing?

I'm trying to see how far I can jump.

What are you doing?

Getting ready for Athlete Glory's

virtual Workout For Wordsville.

I can't wait to exercise with everyone.

But I don't think I've stopped moving in hours.

[Sly] Me, either.

That's the farthest I've ever jumped.

But I bet I can beat it.

Wait, Sly, Reporter Read is calling.

What if our feeling is part of a Word Mystery?

I'm answering.

Word Detectives, did you read or watch

or listen to my report this morning?

You know what? I'll just play it. Watch!

I'm Reporter Read, with the Wordsville

Word of the Day.

It's "lethargic."

"Lethargic" means not having energy,

or not feeling like doing things.

It's how you feel when you're lazy,

and you just want to lie around.

Watch tomorrow, for another word.

[yawns]

That was before! This is now.

[Gabby] The Word of the Day is gone.

This must be why we can't stop moving or doing things.

Does anyone mind if I bounce while we talk?

Why not? I'm still moving.

Not at all.

Since the word "lethargic" is missing,

we feel energetic.

It's true.

Energetic is the opposite of lazy and lethargic.

See? The Dictionary says "energetic" means

we have energy, the strength our bodies and minds use

to do things, and stay active.

Right! At first, feeling energetic was amazing.

I worked on so many new stories.

It was like I could take on the world, yeah!

Is there a "but" coming?

There is!

But I can't stop feeling energetic.

I have too much energy.

I feel hyper.

I would really like to relax, but I can't stop moving.

Same here. We'll take your case.

Tell us what happened.

I like animating even more than bouncing.

Recap time!

[Reporter Read] I was tired, filming

my Word of the Day report, when Scientist Cosmo came,

to pick up a book he leant me.

And then, Athlete Glory interrupted me, too.

As I re-watched my report,

my news camera got unplugged.

As I plugged it in,

suddenly, I felt energetic.

It was only later that I felt too energetic and hyper,

that I saw the word "lethargic" was missing.

And I called you two.

Good thinking, now,

please show us the scene of the mystery.

Anything to help solve the case.

[Gabby] No clues on the wall.

Anything on the floor?

[Sly] I'll take a screenshot for our case notes.

Reporter Read, we'll get back to you.

I'll be here!

Okay, case notes time.

We know what happened.

Someone took the word "lethargic,"

so now we're too energetic, and hyper.

Like, aaaaaah!

Yes! We know where it happened. The Newsroom.

When Reporter Read plugged her news camera back in

as the suspects, Athlete Glory,

and Scientist Cosmo left.

Now to find out who did it, how, and why.

Let's work out the clues!

[Gabby] Hey, look, there's trail mix and a banana peel

on the floor,

and a "Workout For Wordsville" flyer,

with something handwritten on it.

Can you zoom in?

[Sly] It says, "Bring all your energy!"

Huh, that can't be a coincidence.

Let's interview our suspects.

-Woo! -Woo-hoo!

Hey, Word Detectives, sorry, I can't talk long.

I'm busy setting up for my virtual Workout For Wordsville.

We'll be quick. But to use up our energy,

should we do jumping jacks or touch our toes,

-or do squats? -Any movements are good,

but why don't you bring all your energy

to Workout For Wordsville? You are coming, right?

I want to, but we can only come

if we solve the case we're working on.

[Sly] The word "lethargic" is missing.

Oh, well, is that a bad thing?

Turns out, yep.

So, can you tell us what happened at the Newsroom?

Oh, I asked Reporter Read to come to my

Workout For Wordsville, but she said she was tired,

and didn't feel like it today.

-Were you sad about that? -I felt sad for her.

Feeling tired and lethargic is the worst.

Exercise can give you energy,

but she said she didn't want to hear it.

Maybe Scientist Cosmo can tell you more.

He was tired. I hope he found a way to get energized.

Well, I better get set up for the workout.

Hmm, she's pointing the finger at Scientist Cosmo.

-Let's call him. -Yeah.

And let's also keep moving.

Hi, Word Detectives.

I'm trying to invent a machine that never stops moving,

-like I can't today. -We can't stop, either.

I was up late trying to figure it out,

then I remembered, I leant Reporter Read

a book that might help me.

So I went to the Newsroom to get it.

But I was so tired, my yawns kept interrupting Reporter Read.

-Are you tired now? -Not at all.

Usually when I feel lethargic and sleepy I nap,

or eat a snack, like trail mix and a banana, for energy.

But I'm way more energetic than usual. I'm hyper!

So you don't like feeling lethargic?

It's okay to feel lethargic and lazy sometimes,

just not when you have an invention to invent.

And I'm gonna use all this energy to keep on inventing.

Bye.

-Case notes time! -Woo-hoo!

[Sly] Both suspects had their own reason

to take the word "lethargic".

[Gabby] Athlete Glory wants everyone

to have energy for her virtual workout.

[Sly] And Scientist Cosmo needed energy

to invent his invention.

[Gabby] The trail mix and banana peel

are from Scientist Cosmo eating them

to get energized.

[Sly] And this Workout For Wordsville flyer

must belong to Athlete Glory.

It says, "bring all your energy!"

Which she said to us.

She also said, "feeling tired and lethargic is the worst."

But Scientist Cosmo said it's okay to feel lethargic

and lazy sometimes.

[gasps] I think I might know what happened, Gabby!

I think I do, too! Let's show them.

Now presenting the Word Mystery animated re-enactment of...

"The Case of the Too Energetic Town."

[Gabby] "Oh, Word of the Day, Take One."

[Sly] "Hello, I'm here to pick up the book I--

[yawns] leant you."

[Gabby] "Go ahead, but I have to finish

my Word of the Day report.

Take Two."

[Sly yawns]

"Hi, are you coming to my virtual

Workout For Wordsville later?"

[Gabby] "No, sorry, I'm tired.

Take Three.

Good morning, Wordsvillians.

Reporter Read here, and it's time

to reveal the Wordsville Word of the Day.

It's 'lethargic'."

[Sly] "I wonder what would happen if the word

'lethargic' was missing."

[Gabby] "And, cut.

[yawns]

Now, to re-watch my report.

Hey, my news camera's unplugged."

Athlete Glory is who did it.

-Athlete Glory! -Didn't see that coming.

She created a distraction,

and took the word "lethargic", that's how.

She thought taking it would give everyone energy

for her Workout For Wordsville.

-That's why. -That's not the only reason.

I also wanted everyone to want to work out.

Not for everyone to become so energetic we couldn't stop.

I'm so sorry, I'll return the word,

and cancel Workout For Wordsville.

Not so fast!

I just got an idea for a new news report.

Good afternoon, Wordsvillians.

Word Detectives Gabby and Sly solved another Word Mystery,

and the word "lethargic" is back.

How do you all feel?

-Normal. -Not hyper.

-Optimal. -Great!

Perfect, because the Wordsville News is happy to present...

the virtual Workout For Wordsville!

[Sly and Scientist Cosmo cheering]

Thanks, Reporter Read, are you ready to get your bodies moving?

Again? Let's warm up.

Hey, Sly, we did it!

We solved the Case of the Too Energetic Town!

We sure did, but maybe we could've waited

until after Workout For Wordsville.

I wouldn't mind having a little more energy for this.

[all laugh]

I'm so excited for Vet Wilder's brand-new magic show later!

Me too, I love magic tricks.

And Vet Wilder has a bunch of super cute animal assistants.

The perfect combo of awe,

and awww!

And thank you for getting us the magic show tickets.

I've got some special surprises planned for you.

Wait, I'm getting messages!

This isn't good.

[Gabby] Now Vet Wilder's calling.

I wonder if it's about a Word Mystery.

Word Detectives, I need your help.

My magician's hat is missing.

[Sly] Ooh, nice hat.

Vet Wilder, why is the word "astonishing"

written on your hat?

Because magic tricks are supposed to be astonishing.

I don't know that word. I'll look it up.

[Gabby] Like the astonishing fact that astronauts

float in outer space.

Astonishing is an important word.

I can't do my show without it, see?

Tah-dah.

Now I can't wow my audience.

With the word "astonishing" missing,

our day will be ordinary, and unimpressive.

"Ordinary" and "unimpressive"

are both opposites of astonishing.

This must be why my amazing and spectacular surprises

are ruined.

We'd better solve this Word Mystery fast.

Vet Wilder, tell us what happened,

and I'll animate it.

[Vet Wilder] I was feeing nervous about my magic show,

so I invited Baker Graham and Singer Melody

to watch a test run, and give me comments.

I did make a few mistakes.

The cat jumped out of my hat early,

the pig ran off,

but I had one final trick left.

I put my astonishing hat on the table,

and after reciting the magic words,

I went into my magician's cabinet,

and made myself disappear.

Only, after my disappearing trick worked,

and I reappeared,

my audience and my astonishing magician's hat were gone.

And in place of my hat,

I found...

Hmm. A dishtowel, and a green glitter pen.

[Sly] I'm taking this screenshot for our case notes.

Please hurry. Bye!

-Let's get to work. -What do we know so far?

We know what happened.

Someone took Vet Wilder's astonishing magician's hat.

And now everything has become boring,

ordinary, and unimpressive.

We also know where it happened.

At the vet clinic.

And it happened when Vet Wilder disappeared.

The clues are a dishtowel,

Now we just need to find out who did it,

how, and why.

Let's interview Baker Graham first.

[ringing]

Sly, the spectacular friendship cake you ordered

came out looking...

unimpressive.

So that's how my first surprise for Gabby is ruined.

I'm really sorry, Sly.

I'm sorry, too.

Gabby, I wanted to wow you with a spectacular cake.

That was thoughtful.

Thank you, Sly.

Baker Graham, your baking problems must be connected

to our Word Mystery.

Someone took Vet Wilder's astonishing magician's hat.

You watched a test run of his magic show today.

-What happened? -It was a mess.

The cat jumped out of the hat and licked my face.

Then, the pig slobbered on me.

Do you know how astonishingly unsanitary that is?

I had to wipe my face with a dishtowel.

Then, during Vet Wilder's disappearing act,

I left to take a shower.

You didn't say you were leaving?

No, I didn't want to hurt his feelings.

And... ugh.

I think I need to take another shower.

Talk later.

His dishtowel ended up where the astonishing hat

was taken from.

Suspicious.

But I think it's time we interviewed Singer Melody.

And that's how my second surprise for Gabby is ruined.

Sorry, Sly.

That would've been surprising if the word "astonishing"

weren't missing.

Singer Melody, why were you at the vet clinic today?

[sighs] Vet Wilder asked for my comment on his new magic show.

Honestly, it needed a lot of work.

He made lots of mistakes.

Like, not being able to find my card,

the nine of hearts,

three times!

-Rough. -It was.

The show wasn't astonishing or ready for an audience.

I didn't know what to say,

than solving Word Mysteries with you.

Me, too.

And speaking of solving a mystery,

did you see Singer Melody's comments were written in green?

Not just any green, glitter green!

Like the pen in the screenshot.

Let's review our case notes.

[Sly] Baker Graham left a dishtowel

he used to wipe his face.

[Gabby] And Singer Melody left the pen she was using

to write her comments.

[Sly] She didn't think Vet Wilder's show was astonishing.

[Gabby] Or ready for an audience.

She also said she didn't know what to say.

I think it's time to show everyone

Sly, what does competition mean?

You okay? You're usually way more

Yeah, I just don't want to compete in it anymore.

I don't feel like competing either, which is weird.

We're usually competitive and like to win.

-Is it a word mystery? -Probably.

Which means someone should be calling

to report a missing word any minute now.

Huh. No one's calling.

I guess it's up to us to start investigating

if competition is missing,

we should start with...

The most competitive person in Wordsville?

Athlete Glory!

I'll see if she posted anything to wordbook today.

Oh, look!

[Sly] She wrote, "Getting ready for my basketball games

I'm zooming in.

the word competition has left Wordsville.
