02x05 - The Case of the Sillies/The Case of the Loud Talking Town/The Case of the Choreography Caper

Post by bunniefuu »

Did a word that's important to you go missing?

And now all you can feel, do, or think

is the opposite of that word?

-Then call us! I'm Sly. -And I'm Gabby.

We're Word Detectives, and we solve...

[both] Word Mysteries!

Together we run the Wordsville Online Detective Agency.

We'll find your missing word, fast.

-Not to mention briskly. -And swiftly.

Yeah, we're really good with words.

[both]Wordsville!

Ready, Sly? Let's get serious!

We have to study some vocabulary words

if we're going to pass our Word Detective test.

-So-- -Uh, Gabby?

I think you're frozen.

-Boo! -Hey!

Very funny.

What is going on?

-I can't be serious. -Me either!

If we don't get serious, we won't pass our test,

or get to keep being Wordsville Word Detectives.

Caw! Caw! Caw-caw!

Something's up.

Like a Word Mystery.

Hey, look, Reporter Read's calling.

Breaking news! I'm on the moon! [laughs] Not really.

But I do need help. My notebook is missing.

This one.

[Sly] That notebook says "serious."

I keep notes in there on all my serious news reports.

[Gabby] "Serious" means something that is important

and not to be joked about.

Since the word "serious" is missing,

we're acting the opposite.

Silly, ridiculous, and absurd.

And all of this happened when I was working

on a very serious and really meaningful news report.

[both laughing]

It's going to be hard to take this case

and our Word Detective test seriously,

but we have to try.

Tell us what happened, and I'll show it to us

with animation! Recap time.

[Read]I was at the Newsroom working when

both Baker Graham and Artist Clay came to visit.

I can't remember why they stopped by.

I was too busy writing

my serious news report to pay attention.

But after Artist Clay and Baker Graham left,

I started acting so silly

that instead of writing my report with words,

I used emojis and stickers!

Then I saw my notebook was missing,

so I called you two.

I smell a Word Mystery!

I just smelled this sock.

Reporter Read, can you show us

-the scene of the mystery? -[Read] Sure.

That's where I usually keep my notebook,

but I have no idea how these got there.

[Sly] I'll take a screenshot for our Case Notes.

-[camera shutter clicks] -Gabby, you ready?

We'll find who did the deed with speed, Reporter Read.

[blows raspberry]

Time to get back to our Case Notes, Gabbers.

[Gabby] We know what happened.

Someone took Reporter Read's serious notebook.

And everyone is acting wacky.

That's pretty good. But you should give us all moustaches.

Never mind. I'm focusing.

Where it happened is the Newsroom,

and it happened when Reporter Read was working

on her news report. Wah-wah-wah!

[Sly] Our suspects are Alice in Wonderland

and Frankenstein.

[giggles] Sly, we have to fight the sillies!

You're right. Our suspects are Baker Graham and Artist Clay.

Now we need to figure out who did it, how, and why.

Let's look at the scene of the mystery.

[Gabby] There's a plate of smiley face cookies

and some paint.

Cookies are Baker Graham's department.

Word Detectives! I'm making gingerbread versions

of everyone in Wordsville.

Oh, here's you, Word Detective Sly.

"I solve Word Mysteries."

[gasps] Sly, you look scrumptious.

The magic of frosting.

It always puts a smile on my face. See?

I do see.

Baker Graham, could you tell us

why you were at the Newsroom this morning?

Well, I wanted to say hi and drop off

some smiley face cookies for Reporter Read.

She always works so hard

reporting on serious news topics.

That's probably why she's always so serious.

I thought she could use a break with something

that would make her smile.

And now, I'm going to make me smile.

-Hey, that's my head! -[Gabby laughs]

When I realized she was too busy with her big news report,

I left the cookies and came back here.

Maybe Artist Clay knows more.

Talk later!

Baker Graham is worried Reporter Read

is a little too no-nonsense.

Hey, how could you not like nonsense?

Let's see if Artist Clay has anything to say.

Artist Clay. You look, uh, different today.

Oh, no, Gabby! He's trapped in an invisible box.

[laughs] It's just a pretend box.

Oh, I knew that.

I thought instead of making art,

why not become the art?

[Gabby] Speaking of art,

we saw some paint splattered in the Newsroom.

It's mine. I asked Reporter Read to model for

my portrait of a serious person.

She's perfect for it, since she rarely jokes around.

-That's true. -But when I opened my paint,

she asked me to stop making noise.

So I grabbed a cookie,

cleaned up my paint, and left.

Now I should go.

What did we learn today, Sly?

[Sly] This cat loves playing the piano.

-[both laughing] -Case Notes, Sly.

-Case Notes. -Oh! Right.

Baker Graham brought the smiley face cookies

to make Reporter Read smile.

[Gabby] This baby makes me smile.

[both laughing]

Oh, we have to stop. What else?

Artist Clay wanted to paint a portrait of a serious person.

That's right! He wanted Reporter Read to be serious.

-But I know who didn't! -Me too.

Let's show everyone how it happened.

[imitating trumpet] Now presenting

the Word Mystery Animated Reenactment of...

"The Case of the Sillies!"

"Reporter Read, I'm trying to capture

the essence of serious, and you're perfect.

Just sit right there, and I'll paint you."

[Gabby]"Click, clack, I'm trying to type.

I can't focus with all that noise."

[Sly]"Hmm, I guess I should just go."

-[fabric tearing] -Oops! I ripped my pants.

-Hey, that never happened! -[laughs]

[Gabby]"Reporter Read, I baked you cookies.

I hope they make you smile.

She's so serious about writing.

She didn't even notice the cookies.

But I know what to do about that."

-Baker Graham is who did it! -[gasping]

He swiped the notebook while Reporter Read

and Artist Clay were busy.

That's how he did it.

He wanted Reporter Read to stop

acting so serious all the time.

That's why he took it!

Yes, I did it.

Reporter Read, you were so serious

about your big news report.

I thought you might want to take a break

and have some fun.

But I'm sorry for taking your notebook.

I'll bring it right back. Or will I?

No, I'm just joking. I will.

Now that Wordsville is no longer silly,

my serious news report is coming out.

It's all about Baker Graham and how hard he works

to bake treats for all of Wordsville.

That takes serious effort.

It's about me?

Aw, thanks! I shouldn't have made decisions

on how you should act or feel.

I'll take other people's feelings

more seriously from now on.

I'm ready to paint my serious portrait

-if you are, Reporter Read. -Why don't we all share

-smiley face cookies first? -I seriously love that idea.

[all] Thanks, Word Detectives!

We did it! We solved the case of the sillies.

Now we can get back to studying for our Word Detectives test.

I guess the fun's over now.

But here, I made us a practice test.

-Gotcha! -[both laughing]

Now let's get serious.

[whispering] You're doing great, Gabby.

Thanks, Sly.

The key is to be as calm and quiet as possible.

Copy that. But for some strange reason, I'm starting to feel...

[loudly] ...so excited!

Go, Gabby! Whoo!

Sly! Why are you talking so loud?

And why do I also feel so excited?

[gasps] Could this be a Word Mystery?

Probably! Vet Wilder's calling!

Word Detectives, the word "tranquility" has gone missing.

[both] Yes! It is a Word Mystery!

"Tranquility" means when things are pleasantly quiet and calm.

That's exactly how I wanted my clinic to be

for Pet Adoption Day. That's why I put up this sign.

It says, "tranquility, please,"

to remind people to be quiet and calm for the animals.

But someone tore off the "tranquility" part.

So now we're being loud and rowdy.

And boisterous. According to the dictionary,

those words all mean the opposite of "tranquil."

We're not the only ones.

All the animals at my clinic are full of energy.

-[cats yowling] -[dogs barking]

Can you hear that?

Vet Wilder, tell us everything that happened

and I'll animate it. Recap time!

[Wilder]I was putting up my sign to get ready for

Pet Adoption Day when Scientist Cosmo

and Firefighter Ember came in.

They were both being loud and boisterous.

I pointed to my "tranquility, please" sign, since most animals

need quiet and calm so they don't get nervous.

Then I went to go get some more pets for them to meet.

But when I got back, Scientist Cosmo

and Firefighter Ember were both gone.

And so was the word "tranquility."

I shouldn't be excited, but I am.

We get it! Vet Wilder,

can you show us the scene of the mystery?

Of course. Take a look.

[Sly] I'm saving this for our Case Notes.

-[camera shutter clicks] -Whoo-hoo!

Let's solve this Word Mystery!

Please hurry. Even my goldfish are being

energetic and boisterous. They're doing somersaults.

[water splashing]

It's time to start our Case Notes.

When I say "case," you say "notes."

-Case! Case! -Notes! Notes!

Boom! What do we know so far?

[Gabby] We know what happened.

Someone took the word "tranquility,"

and so everyone is the opposite of tranquil.

[Sly] At the Vet Clinic is where it happened,

when Vet Wilder went to get some animals for adoption.

[Gabby] Animals for Scientist Cosmo

and Firefighter Ember, our suspects.

Now to figure out who did it, how, and why.

Let's look at the clues.

[Sly] There's a sound meter

and a pet-sized firefighter helmet.

Oh, that helmet is so cute!

I bet the sound meter belongs to Scientist Cosmo. Let's call him.

-[clanging] -Word Detectives! Hello!

Scientist Cosmo, why are you banging on pots and pans?

I'm doing a sound experiment that measures loud sounds.

Vet Wilder told us you were being loud at pet adoption day.

Yes. I asked Vet Wilder if he had any loud animals

that went "arf" for my sound experiment.

Is that when Vet Wilder pointed to

his "tranquility, please" sign?

Yes. He told us most animals

need quiet and calm, then ran off.

That's when I had another idea for my sound experiment.

So I left, accidentally leaving my sound meter behind.

-Were you annoyed when he left? -A little.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have important work to do.

[clanging]

Being quiet and calm wouldn't be very helpful

for Scientist Cosmo's loud sound experiment.

And he was annoyed. I bet he did it.

Let's interview Firefighter Ember

before we make our conclusions.

[bell jangling]

Word Detectives! Hello! How can I help you?

We heard you were at the Vet Clinic today

being loud and boisterous,

which is the opposite of tranquil.

I was! But only because

I was so excited to adopt a pet

and have a buddy to drive around with in my firetruck.

That does sound exciting.

[Ember] Right? I even had a special helmet made

for my future pal. I was bursting with excitement.

Is that why Vet Wilder pointed to

his "tranquility, please" sign?

Yes. He said pets need quiet and calm

or they get nervous, and I often talk loudly

so people can hear me over sirens.

-That's a good point. -Right?

Plus, there's lots of fun stuff at the fire station

that makes me super excited.

Like when I slide down the firepole and shout "Whoo!"

We're getting off track!

-.

After Vet Wilder told me pets need quiet and calm,

he left without asking me about adopting.

I guess he didn't think I should adopt a pet.

Anyways, I really need to ring this bell.

[bell jangling]

Now that we have all the facts,

let's review our Case Notes.

[Gabby] Scientist Cosmo couldn't do his loud sound experiment

at the clinic because it made too much noise.

[Sly] And Firefighter Ember was being boisterous and loud

because she was excited to adopt a new pet.

Wait. Scientist Cosmo could do his experiment someplace else.

He didn't need to take the sign.

But Firefighter Ember couldn't change

that she often talks loudly

or that she really wanted a pet.

A pet she thought that Wilder didn't want her to adopt!

-[gasps] -[party horn honks]

I think it's time to reveal who did it, how, and why.

Now presenting the Word Mystery Animated Reenactment of...

The Case of the Not-So-Tranquil Town.

[Gabby] "We need to be calm, quiet,

and tranquil for Pet Adoption Day."

[Sly] "Good morning! I'm doing an experiment on loud sounds."

[Gabby] "And I wanna adopt a pet.

Whoo-hoo! Check out this super cute helmet."

"Shh! Tranquility, please.

Most animals need it to be quiet and calm

so they don't get nervous."

"Wait, aren't you gonna ask me about adopting a pet?"

[Sly] "I have an idea for my sound experiment!

I'll go to my lab where I won't have to be quiet."

[Gabby] "I guess I don't get a new pet.

Unless..."

-Firefighter Ember's who did it! -I'm shocked.

Firefighter Ember, you tore down my sign?

When she was alone. That's how she did it.

Because she really wanted a pet. That's why!

They're right. I'm sorry, Vet Wilder.

You said pets need quiet and calm,

and I'm so loud, and so is my fire station.

And that's why you rushed off without asking me

-about adopting a pet. -But--

I thought if I took the word "tranquility,"

pets would be okay in a loud and boisterous place,

and I could get a new buddy.

I understand why you did it.

Having a pet is amazing.

Bring me the word "tranquility" back.

I have an adorable surprise for you.

Thanks for returning the word "tranquility."

I wasn't mad when I rushed off before.

I went to find a pet for you.

Like this guy.

-His name is Ace. -[all] Aww!

He'll be perfect for you because he's boisterous

and he likes living in a noisy place.

I love Ace! He's going to look so cute in his new helmet.

Thank you, Vet Wilder. I promise Ace will have

some calm and quiet times too.

But when he's loud, I can use his sounds for my experiment.

Thanks, Word Detectives!

Phew! Case closed.

In the quiet over the last few minutes,

let me finish doing this.

Cool! Can we be boisterous to celebrate solving our case?

Absolutely!

-[both cheering] -[party horn honks]

Step, step, arms up.

Shake, shake.

-Spin... -[both] Pose!

We're nailing the dance Singer Melody

asked us to learn.

This will be her best music video ever.

Everyone in town will be in it,

doing these amazing moves.

Shake-- Huh?

You mean, moves like this.

-Huh? -You can't do the dance, either?

[gasps]

Is this a Word Mystery?

-[Sly] I'm thinking, yeah. -[ringing]

Singer Melody's calling.

Word Detectives! Can't do my dance!

♪ Help! ♪

Okay, it's okay, Singer Melody.

We're here. Tell us what happened.

My dance choreography for my music video!

-It's gone! -What's choreography?

[Gabby] I'll look it up in the dictionary.

For this case, it means dance moves.

Like the ones Singer Melody asked us to learn.

But you can choreograph lots of things.

A dance, an event, or even a plan.

You mean I could choreograph the way I eat pizza?

I mean... you could.

But who can think of food

when my dance choreography is missing?

It was so good, too.

See? This is it.

[Gabby] Look at all those dance moves.

But now it's gone!

And no one in Wordsville will be able to do

the dance moves in the right order!

Which means, I won't be able to sh**t my music video!

Which means, it's a disaster!

No, it's a Word Mystery.

Singer Melody, tell us what happened,

and I'll animate it. Recap time!

[Singer Melody] I was in my recording studio,

when Vet Wilder caught a gerbil.

Wait, that's not the beginning.

Reporter Read left the studio.

No, it all started when the gerbil knocked over

my microphone.

Ohh! I'm too upset to remember what happened first!

What do you remember?

Reporter Read and Vet Wilder were at my studio.

And there was a gerbil.

And when they all left, my choreography was missing.

Can you show us the scene of the mystery?

Sure, one sec.

It was on the table, but now it's gone!

I'm taking a screenshot for our case notes, Singer Melody.

The Word Detectives are on the case.

Please hurry.

Ready to review the case notes?

We know what happened.

Someone took Singer Melody's dance choreography.

We know where it happened. Her studio.

And it happened when she was distracted by a gerbil.

[Sly] Our suspects are Reporter Read and Vet Wilder.

But who did it, how, and why?

The first thing we need to figure out

is the sequence of events.

That's the order everything happened.

The order everything happened?

That's like choreography, but for time.

And it starts with talking to our first suspect,

-Reporter Read. -[ringing]

Word Detectives! I'm working on my latest story.

"Choreography carried off.

-Dancing done. Gerbil guilty?" -I'm interested.

Can you tell us everything that happened at the studio,

in the order it happened?

Well, I was doing the same old thing.

Interviewing Singer Melody about her latest music video.

At least the gerbil was new.

Hmm, did this gerbil show up before or after Vet Wilder?

It happened like this:

One, I arrived at the recording studio

to interview Singer Melody.

Two, the gerbil raced in.

Three, the gerbil knocked over Singer Melody's microphone,

and Vet Wilder chased it.

Four, he caught the gerbil, and left.

Five, Singer Melody was too upset to continue the interview,

so I left.

And speaking of leaving, I have an article to finish.

Bye!

She's so serious.

At least she gave us the order everything happened.

She also gave us a reason

she might've swiped the choreography.

She's tired of writing the same thing

about Singer Melody over, and over, and over.

Are you saying our suspect is suspicious?

I am.

But let's call Vet Wilder before we jump to any conclusions.

[ringing]

Word Detectives, is this about Singer Melody?

Tango and I didn't mean to ruin her interview.

Tango? Who's Tango?

Tango is my gerbil.

She's usually so well-behaved.

Vet Wilder, can you tell us what happened,

in the order it happened?

Happily.

First, I was taking Tango for a walk.

Second, she ran off,

and I couldn't get her to stop.

Third, I chased her into, and around,

the recording studio.

Fourth, I caught her.

After she knocked over a microphone.

Fifth, Singer Melody was upset,

so Tango and I left.

Any chance we can meet this Tango?

Of course. Tango!

[Sly and Gabby] Awww!

[Sly] I wish everything came that quickly

when I called for it.

Pizza!

Well, it was worth a try.

Tango's a very well-trained gerbil.

She always comes when she's called.

Don't you, Tango?

Thanks for your time, Vet Wilder.

We'll be in Tango soon.

-I mean, in touch soon. -Bye.

Back to the case notes? What do we know for sure?

That Tango was super cute.

And both suspects gave us the same sequence of events

for what happened.

Reporter Read was interviewing Singer Melody.

Tango the gerbil ran in, and interrupted them.

Vet Wilder came in, chasing Tango.

Tango knocked over Singer Melody's microphone.

Vet Wilder caught Tango, and left.

Singer Melody was upset,

so Reporter Read left, too.

Singer Melody discovered her choreography was missing.

Seven events.

It's strange Vet Wilder had to chase Tango so much.

She seemed a lot better trained than that.

[gasps] You're right!

Vet Wilder said Tango always comes when she's called.

I think it's time to show everyone

how this Word Mystery happened.

[ringing]

Now presenting, the Word Mystery animated re-enactment of...

[Gabby's voice] Tell me how this music video

is different from all the others.

Easy, everyone in Wordsville is going to be in this video,

doing a special dance that I choreographed.

[Sly's voice] Runaway gerbil!

[Gabby's voice] Whoa!

-[clatters] -My microphone!

[Sly's voice] Sorry, we should go.

It was Vet Wilder who did it.

-Vet Wilder? -How'd you know?

You said Tango always comes when she's called.

So why did you have to chase her around?

Unless it was all a carefully choreographed plan

to distract Singer Melody and Reporter Read,

while you swiped the dance.

Nice investigating, Word Detectives.

-I did it. -♪ But why? ♪

Because I'm a terrible dancer.

That's nothing to be ashamed of.

I wasn't.

Until Singer Melody asked everyone to dance

in her new video.

I just knew I'd embarrass myself,

and ruin her music video.

Oh no, I'm so sorry you felt that way.

I thought it'd be better for everyone

if the dance disappeared.

I'm sorry. It was wrong.

I'll return the choreography.

Tango's sorry, too.

Awww!

[ringing]

My dance choreography is back where it belongs.

Vet Wilder, I will personally teach you my dance moves.

Step by step.

You'd do that? Thank you!

What a great story.
