[Alexia] I first found out
about the article
when my family and I
were paddleboarding in Aspen,
and I see my mom look at her phone,
and I see her face shift,
and I see this kind of panic
come over her,
and then my dad came out and he just had
phone call, text message,
phone call, text message.
[Mauricio] You guys,
what time are we having dinner?
[Sophia] You're the one cooking,
you tell us.
They're not separated,
or as far as I know, they're not.
And I was like, "Oh my God,
is there something I don't know?"
I'm gonna get cozy so we can start
eating dinner soon. I'm hungry.
What makes this time different
is that there is actually
some truth to what's being said.
Cozy-ish.
Okay. I'm going to put on
something cozy too.
It's a little awkward right now.
We all know that
this People Magazine article came out,
but we have not talked about it yet.
Honestly, I don't even know
if we are going to talk about it.
We tend to brush things under the rug.
We don't really discuss difficult things,
and we just don't know really
how to communicate in that regard.

[Mauricio] Before the news broke,
we had really not talked
about the issues with the family.
We had kind of kept it secret,
not secret, but away from the kids.
I can't imagine the moment, you know,
when you think your parents
are divorcing and separating
and you hear it
from somebody other than your parents.
Like, that would just be
a devastating thing.
[Kyle] Where is this colander? What?
So, I think, you know,
since we're having dinner tonight,
I think it's really wise
that we talk to the girls
about the news that came out.
Since Farrah's just landed.
Don't you think?
It was important they're all here.
[Mauricio] You know,
we've been apart a lot.
I've never traveled as much
as I'm traveling right now
in my entire life.

We are just looking at things differently.
She's really chosen
a super healthy lifestyle.
She's completely stopped drinking.
Kyle is wanting to be home,
wanting me to, uh,
you, know, not be the big,
you know, uh, personality that I am,
then partying and having fun
and getting home late.
[Kyle] I just don't want that life at all.

I'd rather be here on the river
with my paddleboard.
[Mauricio] I'm still a very social person.
I am not ready to, you know,
to slow that part of my life,
you know, down right now.

this is part of being in the spotlight.

People can feel when energy is off.

Because coming out of the blue
what happened,
kind of just blindsiding all of us,
I know was a lot.
And first of all, I'm really sorry,

I really am sorry about that,
because it's not fair to you guys, um
But I'm just so used to it.
Yeah, this time was different,
because everyone was reaching out.
Like, my phone was blowing up
with people reaching out.
I opened Instagram, it was everywhere.
Like, it kind of
it felt different this time.
-It was definitely hard.
-[Mauricio] I agree.
Feeling like maybe
I don't know the whole story.
It freaked me out when I read it.
I was like, "Okay, this is weird."
-[Alexia] Like, "Is this the truth?"
-[Farrah] There's something we don't know?
Exactly. Is there something
that we're not in the know of, like
[Kyle] Like, you probably went
automatically to divorce.
[Portia] Exactly.
Unfortunately,
the reality of what our life is
is that we have opened up
our family and our home to
the public eye.
[somber music playing]
And, um
We owe so much of our life
and our success
to the connections we've made,
and the experiences we've had
It's brought so much good into our life,
but in moments like this, um
it's hard, and there's people
telling you that you deserve it
because you chose this, and
you know that's not fair either.
I mean, we have had a hard year.
You know? We have had a hard year.
[Farrah sighs] Put in the work.
Whatever that means.
-[Kyle] Well, it is. It is work.
-[Mauricio] It is work.
It is work. I mean, look, Mom and I,
we've never really been apart, um
-Definitely not this much.

Like, I have to learn
how to say no to certain things, right?
And not say yes to everything
because not only does it affect,
you know, my life at the office,
but it affects my life at home.
My high stress comes,
you know, at home, not, not

No, meaning that he can't be
fully present or that he cares.
That's one of the You have a hard time
being present too in your home
because you've got so much on your mind.
-Yeah. We've talked about that.
-Yeah.
You know, Kyle and I have always had
the dream of growing up old together
and being grandparents together,
and watching our grandkids play,
and being the house
where everybody goes to,
and, you know,
the thought of Kyle and I, you know,
maybe not being together and separating
is definitely something that is sad,
and it's hard, um
[tense music playing]
[music fades]
One of the most important things
is that we feel
that we can, like, talk about it,
and communicate, and be open about it.
[Kyle] It's hard trying to find
the balance with being honest with you,
and not oversharing, you know.
Some stuff is private, you know,
between us, it just is, and
So, I'm sorry if you feel like
I haven't shared enough.
[tense music playing]
[Kyle] Like, that's why.
[Alexia] In a really weird,
weird, sick, twisted way,
I do think that this is very healthy
for all of us to acknowledge it,
and because we can acknowledge it,
I hope you guys can, you know,
actually work on it,
and not feel like
it's a secret amongst all of us.
[Mauricio] Well, I'm really glad
that we had an opportunity
for all of us to be open about it
and communicate about it.
But we are definitely a success story.
Even though we're having
a hard time right now,
twenty-seven years is a success story.
[Farrah] Beyond.
[Kyle] And our family is,
you know, a testament to that.
-[Mauricio] Um

with what we're talking about.

It was a horror to me to read that.

I'm really glad we talked about it.

[Alexia] Acting like everything's okay
all the time is not gonna allow you
to fix the issue at hand.
Yeah. Hopefully it's like just a catalyst
for taking the next steps or action
or whatever the work
that needs to be done.
I think the question
that I probably should have asked
was just, "What's the game plan here?"
"What are you guys gonna do?
What's the path moving forward?"
"How are you going to work on things?"
"What does that look like?
How are you gonna navigate this?"
So I kind of wish I had asked that.
Hopefully, it's a weight off their chests
to be able to just talk
about it more openly.
One step at a time.

I'm glad that we talked about it
and got it out in the open,
because we all, obviously,
knew what happened, but
realistically, nobody's gonna bring it up.
Right. As you know,
I was feeling kind of, like,
everything was being brushed
under the rug a little,
which was really bothering me.

I think it's just because everyone always,
like, we're so happy,
and everyone's so happy to be happy
that there's no room for any, like,
negativity, and that was
just kind of bothering me
because I feel like
anyone who brings up anything bad
is, like, ruining the mood.
[Portia] Exactly. It's a vibe k*ller.
-Exactly.
-[Portia] It shouldn't be.
I don't want to be the one
k*lling the vibe all the time, but, like,
I wanna talk about it.
I don't wanna feel
in the dark about those things.
I don't want to have to read articles
like that and wonder if they're true.
I think we do deserve to know the truth.
