02x01 - Day-Tripping Down to Naniwa!

Post by bunniefuu »

I wasn't the person who
made this claim, but...

"A society where the majority have Quirks
will turn into a society of repression."

Super strength. Super speed. Being able
to emit light, heat, and shockwaves...

Et cetera, et cetera. All Quirks that
people are born with.

But if they were to use them
however they wanted...

The world would fall into chaos.

Quirk use prohibited in this area
Except pro heroes

That's why most people don't use their Quirks,
and try to live a quiet, normal life.

That's the social contract.

The only exception is for heroes.

With their incredible talents
and proven character,

they are allowed to wield their Quirks at
will for the good of people and the world.

All kids look up to these heroes...

And seek to become them.

Because it's the only way you can use your
Quirk freely under this system.

But in reality, not everyone
can become a hero.

And so these Quirks, with no
other way to express themselves,

often find themselves exercised
outside of the rules.

Used in the name of personal beliefs, even
at the risk of defying the social order...

By vigilantes.

Vigilantes. In other words,
self-appointed crime fighters.

People who act as heroes, despite not having
the license to do so as professionals.

It's a kind of... well, actually a
very ill*gal way of doing things,

but they can find wrongdoing that the
heroes are too busy to deal with,

and take care of it.

Acting at least, in some way, like
the people they once idolized.

Saying that doing this has made my dream
come true is probably an exaggeration.

But if what we do can make people happy,
that's enough justification for me.

It's not all fun and games, of course.

But at this point,
I've really come to like it.

I'm a vigilante, and my
hero name is The Crawler.

And I'm ready to glide along the edge again!

secret identity

the true person behind the mask of anonymity worn by spies, superheroes, etc.

Day-Tripping Down to Naniwa!

Okay, girls, time for practice!

Captain
East High

Right!

First comes running!

Right!

Right.

Miu, Yu, make sure to stretch first
so you don't hurt yourselves!

Okay!

Huh. Where's Pop?

How come she's at practice today?

She's in Osaka today, remember?

Osaka?

What?

Well... she's taking part in a program
to promote local idols, apparently.

Excuse me? Why am I just
hearing about this?!

Nozomi 233 will soon be
departing on Track 16...

That's not fair! I wanna go on tour, too!

Miu's bound to make a jealous
fuss if she finds out,

so try to keep her in the dark.

So much for that!

You two! Focus on what you're doing!

R-Right!

Makoto was too busy to deal
with it personally, as usual,

and she said Pop's good at handling
her own scheduling and whatnot, so...

So she went to Osaka on her own?

No, she went with her manager.

You mean Koichi?!

Why take him? It's not like he's any help.

If anything, I could picture
him being late for the train

because he was buying something to eat!

You sure that's not just
how you feel about him?

I missed the train because I was
buying a bento box from the station!

Koichi!

Hello? What's up?

Right, like I said...

He missed the train at Tokyo Station.

Right. That should be fine.
They're e-tickets, on our phones,

and I've got the schedule
and their business cards.

Right. I'll head on to Osaka,
and if Koichi doesn't make it in time,

I'll head to the venue on my own.

Shinagawa. Now arriving at Shinagawa.

Right. Right.

It's okay. I think I should
be able to manage—

Well, that was pretty rough!

You mean to tell me you caught up
with the Shinkansen on your own?!

Of course not.

Back at Tokyo Station, I just kinda...

Falling! Falling! Falling!

Huh?!

You stuck to the train?

Yeah. Kinda like a magnet,
or maybe a suction cup?

It's like the force that normally pushes me
off the ground had switched to an attraction...

or maybe some kind of adhesion?

Like your Quirk suddenly inverted?
Does that even happen?

I think it was more like figuring
out a different way to use it.

And I get the feeling I might've been
doing it without noticing, before.

Like when I needed extra traction
on a curve or if I'm headed upwind,

and risk rolling over...

Can't believe I've got a new
technique after all this time!

Welcome!
Super Minami Shopping District

Check it out! I did it again!
I'm wall crawling!

Yeah, yeah, I get it.

Play around with your new
move when we get home.

I don't need you getting in trouble!

Takoyaki

Hold up, there!

You're the punk who was
charged for that as*ault!

I'm takin' you in as soon as
I polish off this takoyaki!

Who do you think you're screwin' with?!

Hey, stupid.

You really think that peashooter's gonna work

against Naniwa's tender tank,
Fatgum himself?

\h\h\hBMI Hero
Fatgum

BMI Hero, Fatgum.

Quirk: Fat Adsorption.

His body can absorb and
oppress just about anything.

But you're gonna get just
as bad as you've given me.

One, two, three, four, five, six!

I-I only shot you once!

I wasn't talkin' about the g*n!

That was a 36-pack of takoyaki I had!

Excuse me!

Your takoyaki is safe.

Well, now I kinda feel bad.
I went overboard.

Here, have some takoyaki.

Don't be shy, now. You get six.

I appreciate the help.

You folks here for sightseein'?
Where ya headed?

Oh, a place called SS Mall in Super Minami.

That works out perfect! I was about to...

Then again, I think that's
supposed ta be a secret.

Forget I said anything!

SS Mall is right down this road.

You kids be careful, now.

Seeya!

He's almost like a cartoon
of a big guy, huh?

Yeah.

Mascot Idol
Carnival Group
Waiting Room

Wow, look at all these weirdos!

Don't say it like that!

Hey there!

Appreciate you two comin' all this way!

You're Pop☆Step from
Marukane in Tokyo, right?

H-Hello there.

Nice to meetcha! I'm...

"Snip snip, clip clip...

Grimace

"Heike crab!"

That's what I'm sayin' in the ads!
I'm Monika Kaniyashiki!

The official idol of the Kanidoge!

Pleasure to meetcha!

Oh, right.

The pleasure's ours!

Tokyo folks got no sense of humor.

Ya wanna get snipped?! 'Cuz I could nip ya!

Dang. I guess this is what I oughta
expect if I take this act on the road.

Um, Miss Kaniyashiki?

Just call me Kaniko.

See, the way I figure, there's gonna be a
big wave of mascot idols in the future!

And when that happens...

"Heike Crab!"

Grimace

That's gonna be the catchphrase
that'll take me to the top!

Let's both do our best today, Pop.

Oh, you're Willows from Nagoya, right?
Glad you could come!

Nice to meetcha! I'm...

"Snip snip, clip clip..."

"Heike crab!"

She sure is full of energy.

Maybe we should come up
with a funny catchphrase for you?

I don't think that's how it works.

Equipment Room

Looks like I made it in time!

No Unauthorized Entry

Clobberin' that punk nearly made me late.

Hello, Fatgum. Thanks for having us.

Hey, good to see you.

You're... Tsukauchi from up in Tokyo, right?

We've got the security footage
from around the building

routed through this room at the moment.

A drug deal at the venue for an idol show.

Who comes up with that kinda idea?

These kinds of limited-time marketplaces

usually don't have a lot of restrictions
on what vendors can bring in.

The Esuha SS Mall's "Locally
Sourced Mascot Idol Carnival" event

will be beginning soon.

Here we go.

The goal of our investigation is exposing the
network that drugs are being distributed through,

along with arresting the operators
and recovering the contraband

they'll be attempting to sell at the venue.

That 'bout covers it. Lemme know
if you spot anything fishy.

Isn't she that girl from Naruhata?

Excuse me, but could you make
sure to keep an eye on her?

Turn a corner 'round the round part

But don't be a total square

Take a trip, take a trip

Go for it, go for it!

Come on! Come on! Come on!

It's all yours for the taking

Come on!

The Naruhata branch of the Marukane Department
Store has a monthly free concert, Narufest!

If you're in Tokyo,
come by and check it out!

That was Pop☆Step, representing
the Marukane Department Store!

Great work.

Are we headed straight back, now?

Makoto said to check out the venue
for reference before leaving.

Okay. Let's look around, then.

Straight from Hokkaido
Fish Eggs
Salted Roe & Soy Sauce Roe

There are a lot of places selling
local delicacies, huh?

It was originally a market event
where regional goods were sold,

before they added the mascot stuff to it.

That explains it!

Maybe our store could use
a trademark product?

Like Naruhata Dumplings?

Pop!

Over here! Check it out!

"Snip snip, clip clip! Kanidoge!"

Kanidoge

Kaniko!

Wow, what is that?!

Pretty rad, huh?

We decided to display the warehouse's
industrial arms in lieu of a sign!

It ain't a real event unless
someone's got a mascot suit!

Is that... what that is?

You two eat yet?

I'll give ya a deal on
Kanidoge's crab boxed lunch!

We ate on the way into town, so...

Kanidoge, please get ready
to head to the stage.

Sounds like I'm up!

We should check this out.

Yeah!

All right, time to put on a show!

Kaniko, ease up! Please! You
don't wanna run in that thing!

Something wrong?

My stomach's feelin' a little off...

Maybe that boxed lunch of
ours I ate ain't sittin' right.

Or not! Just kiddin'!

Don't joke around like that!

I'm gonna hit the bathroom
real quick, while I can!

No jokin' this time!

Hurry back, please!

Gotta see what's in the cards, first!

Is she gonna be all right?

And that was from the billowing sisters,
The Willows, from Nagoya,

representing the main location
of Oyanagi Confectionary!

Our next act is here from Hyogo,
the Akashiya Kids!

Please welcome them to the stage
with a round of applause!

Is something wrong?

Meanwhile in Naruhata

This way, bro!

Hey there. I'm the pro hero, Eraser Head.

You two are the Grasshopper brothers,
the Hottas, right?

I was hoping to ask you a few questions.

Quirk: Grasshopper

We are indeed the Hotta Brothers!

The technical Ichiro!

And the powerful Jiro!

Hotta... Jump!

Pulling the "Trigger" right
from the start, huh?

Saves me the trouble of
confirming that, I guess.

Double Hotta Kick!

Nice and efficient, this way!

Now, about those questions...

You want our help with an investigation?

Right.

It's believed that there's an organization
based in Naruhata that sells drugs

and sponsors Quirk-related crimes,
that's also performing human experimentation.

We've been calling them the Villain Factory.

We were hoping you could
gather local intel, Eraser.

I'm more of a combat guy.

The idea of playing investigator...
I dunno about that.

Why not? Just help the man.

You're from around here, aren't you?

And you've got contacts in the underground.
You're the perfect choice!

You oughta know, I'm not a cop,

and this isn't a questioning
that's going on the record.

I sort of provoked you into that attempted
as*ault and misuse of your Quirks,

and am willing to overlook it as a result.

Even using Trigger falls into
a gray zone as things stand.

In other words, how about we
just enjoy a bit of small talk?

We're not gonna fall for that!

Doesn't matter what you
ask, we're not talking!

Do you recognize this man?

That's Kamayan!

But he went missing! Where is he?!

Pawn Shop
Hoppers

This guy, Kirihito Kamachi,
who you know as Kamayan,

was brought in by Captain Celebrity
as a giant villain this summer.

He's currently a patient at the police hospital,
being kept under observation.

Oh, I heard about that.

That was Kamayan?

He never got big enough to be
classified as a giant, though.

Maybe he grew, though?

He was using that nastier mix of Trigger.

A nastier one?

Yeah. It became a big deal
about six months ago.

It was mixed with uppers,
and taking it made people go nuts.

We told him to knock it off because
it sounded dangerous, too.

He's such an idiot.

But then there's us!
We know what we're doing.

The Trigger we take came from a
normal pharmaceutical distributor!

Except you two don't have a license for
selling those pharmaceuticals, do you?

I-It's for personal use. My hair's
been kinda thinning lately...

Likewise. My little grasshopper
hasn't been jumping as high.

I'm willing to put that aside for now...

Tell me about this nastier batch, though.

Who's selling it? Where do you get it?

Any trends in how it sells?

Fill me in, and I can arrange a
meeting with Kamayan for you.

The officer in charge of the case is out
of town, so it won't be right away.

Oh, speaking of traveling,

you boys ever heard of the crab route?

It is such a life-saver havin' you
here to fill in for Kaniko, miss!

The arms are easy enough to use.

Just do a little crab routine on stage,
and you'll be all good!

Crab... routine?

Is this okay, though? Having someone
fill in for your official idol.

What idol? You mean Kaniko?

I guess that is what this event is supposed
to be about, come to think of it.

I may have entered her as
our company's idol, but...

Her actual job is traveling sales.

People vacuum up our product
when she's around.

Take it, then, ya crab thieves!

Somehow, I can picture that.
She seems suited to the job.

The only thing is, she'll sometimes
take off in the middle of a job.

Just like now. No tellin'
where she's gone...

A little too free-spirited, huh?

Hey Fatyan, once we wrap this up,
can I head over to the stage?

I actually think I'm more cut
out to be an idol than a cop.

I don't think you're cut out
for either, to be honest.

You've got a point.

Where else in the world are you gonna find a
beautiful undercover idol who's this hilarious?

Narrowin' that down to a single
act just doesn't do it justice.

You're gettin' too inta this.

And the only part that was accurate
is you bein' undercover.

I'm plenty beautiful!

I can never tell when you're makin' a joke.

Well, that wasn't one! Jerk.

Officer Kaniyashiki...

Boxes of Kanidoge merchandise are being
unloaded at the mall's service entrance already.

As soon as you're able to confirm that
they're drugs disguised as food,

we'll be able to launch the raid,
but you'll be on your own until then.

Please, be careful.

Yeah, I've got it handled.

Time for this undercover
babe to hit the scene!

Kaniko, I keep tellin' you to
make your jokes more obvious.

And I keep tellin' you, I ain't joking!

Someone's crabby.

In the shadows of an event, a package of
drugs to enhance Quirks is being delivered.

The one behind it all is a
man with a scar on his face.

Next time: "Crabtastic Rampage"!

And of course, I'm gonna
get caught up in it.
