My mom passed when my daughter

She was so sick.

That's a testament to your love.
And the strength that you have.

will I ever see her again?

We see and are reunited
with our loved ones.

And they're reunited
with their loved ones too.

I'm a little nervous coming into this,

because I want to be able
to remember things,

but I'm scared that I won't.

So, memory can trick us a little bit,

and so for this work,
what I'm asking you to do

is not judge any memories that come up…

The best-case scenario is that
I remember how to speak Korean,

or I can at least
maybe even remember a face

of my mom or my dad.

you can begin to experience

that gradual alteration of awareness…

and drifting.

The first thing I would like you to do

is to imagine a beautiful,
descending staircase.

And this staircase is going to take us
back through time.

So, I'm going to be counting now
from 20 to five,

and when I say the number five,
you'll be able to describe for me

an early childhood memory
from around the age of five.

So, moving back now,
getting ready to step down the stairs…

as 20 is counted, stepping down.

but I kinda see where shamans get this.

that it was really my mom.

and it was her own life

Kevin. What's your name?

I used to pick on my little brother
all the time.

I had the best experience.

So, I'm adopted, and I don't know
who my birth parents are.

And somebody recommended a hypnotherapist

to unlock some memories
that I can't remember.

Do they hypnotize you?

No. I wanted that. I wanted that so bad.

- [Kim] Yeah.
- But, no.

It was, like,
just listening to her talk, and it was...

- Whoa.
- [Kevin] Yeah, it was intense.

There was no images that came up,
but it was all a feeling.

But the thing that hit me the most
is, like, she asked,

"What's your mom feeling?"

I was, like, so relaxed
I could remember the feeling.

I... I knew she didn't wanna have me,

and I said she was scared.

And I... I... I... I, like,
really didn't expect that to come up,

because I discovered that I'm 80% Korean,



My thesis is

somebody in the family mix

was a little Japanese,

and Koreans don't like Japanese
at the time

because they invaded Korea

- and colonized them.
- Right.

[Kevin] Somebody in the mix
didn't like that, probably.

But really what I got from this was

she really didn't wanna have the baby.

And so,

I felt like
I had a lot of closure with that,

because I felt so at ease
and so much more light

when I went through that experience.

Yeah, I feel like a new person.

It made me love my family even more now,

the people I have.

Yeah.

The best thing that came
from the regression therapy

is that deep need to know dissolved.

Like, there's just no urgency
to go find them.

My parents are my parents.

It really isn't
who owned the semen and the egg,

it really was who brought you up

and loved you.

And, really, when you're born to a family,

they have no choice.

But my family had a choice.

They could have adopted me,
or they couldn't have.

And they chose specifically me
to adopt me.

And that gave me a lot of comfort.

I was given a second chance
with this family.

I raised my children.

Respect and love.

Like, good karma.

You do good things,
good things come back to you.

[Kevin] Exactly. I believe that.

[Kimmy] So, when we leave this world,
we don't bring anything with us.

So, count your blessing every day.

Can I talk to your mom every day?

- [chuckles] I'm a loving person.

- What are you doing?
- [Cherie] Thinking about my mom again.

- [Jessey] What are you thinking about Mom?
- I don't know.

I'm just, like, feeling like she's here,

and then she's kinda not here,

and then I feel like

a part of me would love
to be with my mom every day.

You know?

Listen,
if your mom is around, she's around.

But I don't think it means
your mom is Jevon.

Yeah.

I think that'd be very tough, right?

If... If you have that mindset.

You know what I'm saying?
Because you'll love Jevon for who he is.

Right? You shouldn't have
your mom be kinda tied in with Jevon.

I know these feelings that Cherie's
feeling about missing her mom,

it's gonna take a lot of time.

I think it's very good to still have
her mom in her heart and her mind.

I think you're always gonna remember,

so you don't have to worry
about losing it.

Every time I see Cherie smile

and being happy,

it's just one
of the most amazing feelings in the world.

Be happy that your mom is around,

seeing the kids grow up, be around you.

how to lose your parent.

It's not easy. Um…

Even ten years down the road from now,
it's not gonna be easy for me,

and I can't imagine going through all this

without Jessey.

Even though sometimes he thinks I'm crazy,

he's always there for me, no matter what.
