OBEX (2025)

Post by bunniefuu »

- Women who go

to work need sheer pantyhose

that don't gather around the

ankles-

- You hungry? Come on.

- Or sag around the knees.

New Second Skin by Anderson.

Second Skin are made from

revolutionary bare Lycra,

so they fit like a second skin.

All day long.

No matter how much bending and

stretching your job entails.

Second Skin, the

first sheer pantyhose

to benefit the working girl-

- Hello. You hungry?

- in any position

- You hungry? Mm.

- On Friday the 13

- Oh, look.

- A television event

for all those who like to

be scared out of their wits.

For the first fiendish

time on television-

- Oh, yeah.

- "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

This is no

ordinary scary dream

this is the ultimate terror.

- Don't fall asleep.

- "A

Nightmare on Elm Street"

premiers Friday the 13th.

- Oh, we're definitely

gonna watch that.

Oh yeah.

- From

around your town

and across the country,

this is "America Today."

- Welcome to "America

Today." I'm Neal Browne.

- Huh, you ready?

Come here.

Can you sit? Can you touch?

Good girl.

Mm.

Mm.

- Even baby powder

doesn't gently

cleanse and freshen-

- Well, as we know

there are billions,

literally billions of

cicadas out there.

Listen to what they sound like.

And we're gonna be

cooking with these.

It's very difficult to believe

that people

actually do cook with

and find cicadas

extremely tasty.

What are we gonna

be making today?

- Today, we're having cicada

omelet and chili cicada.

- Well, that sounds very good.

I hope you have some

made so we can have-

- Cicada omelet.

Yeah.

Get your pens and paper

because we'll be offering

these recipes absolutely free.

Alright, first of all,

how do you k*ll the bugs?

- I try to

think of the best way

to k*ll 'em without it being a

very traumatic sort of thing.

- And actually, and

you can also see

their little, their little eyes.

I mean, they're-

- Yep. You can see

their nice little red eyes.

- Wait, do the eyes-

- Little red eyes.

You got little red eyes?

- Yeah, they

change color. Right, okay.

Here's the, here's the omelet.

Might be a little hot there-

- Listen to them.

Sound of frying cicadas

on live television.

Are you gonna freeze

them, freeze lots of them,

So you can have

a 17-year supply?

- 17 years in the earth,

and then you just

get eaten on TV.

- That's great.

- Yeah.

Why don't we stop for a moment,

go to our little break,

and when we come back,

we're gonna have some

people in our audience

who're gonna taste our cicadas.

That'll be coming up

next in just a moment.

Look what's ahead.

- Did you have a good breakfast?

Oh, should we get to work?

Okay, come on.

Hello?

- Hey, Conor, it's Mary.

- Oh, hey, Mary.

Happy Wednesday.

- Happy Wednesday.

How's it going?

- Good. You know, just working.

- Anything interesting?

- Kids, families, the usual.

- Oh, sounds great.

So I, I wanted to let you

know I might be moving.

- Oh, yeah?

- Yeah. I, I just had

my final round of interviews.

I'm supposed to know

by the end of the week.

- Oh, that's great.

Congratulations.

- Well, I

haven't gotten it yet.

- Oh, right.

- Okay, well, there

was a special on green grapes,

so I got you some of those.

- Oh, that's great,

Mary. Thanks.

- Alright, Conor.

See you next week?

- Yeah, see you next week, Mary.

There it is.

"I will draw you

with my computer."

Looks good.

"OBEX."

"A breakthrough in

interactive gaming

that puts you inside the game.

Can you make it to

the end of the maze

and defeat the demon Ixaroth

before he eats

your mortal soul?"

Film yourself from a few angles

and tell us a bit

about yourself.

What is your name?

Where are your hobbies?

Do you have a pet?" I do.

"Where do you live?

Who are you?

Using state-of-the-art

technology

we insert you into the game."

"OBEX."

Hello, my name is

Conor Thomas Marsh.

I'm sorry if you're having

trouble hearing this.

I currently have

billions of cicadas

in my backyard screaming.

I'm supposed to

tell you about myself.

There's really not

too much to tell.

I'm 36. I live in Baltimore.

This is Sandy. I don't

know how old she is.

A couple years ago she just

showed up in my backyard

and she never left.

I sure am glad you stayed.

I don't know what

I'd do without you.

I saw your ad. I love

computer games.

Recently, they've all have

been starting to feel the same.

I think I'm craving

something new.

That's why your game sounds

so interesting, "OBEX."

It's a very intriguing title.

And it's such a cool concept

putting real people into games.

It got me thinking that,

at the rate we're going,

maybe someday we'll all

be living in computers.

Even dogs.

Right, Sandy?

Do you wanna live in a computer?

Sandy says, "Yes."

Maybe you put

Sandy in the game too.

Is that really

what I sound like?

Okay. I'll do some

poses for you now.

- Hello?

- Hey Mary, it's Conor.

S- sorry to be

calling you so late.

- Hey Conor,

what's going on?

- Well, I'm here

making my dinner

and there's something

wrong with the cheese.

- Oh no. Is it moldy?

- No, no, no.

It, it's not moldy.

It's the white cheddar, I

prefer the orange cheddar.

- Oh, right.

I meant to tell you that when

I dropped off your groceries.

They were out of

the orange cheddar,

so I just got you the

white cheddar instead.

Actually, since I have you,

I wanted to let you know

that I heard back about

that job and I got it.

- Uh-huh.

- So I'm moving.

- Okay.

- Do you

need help finding

someone else to

bring your groceries?

- Oh, no, no. I, I'm okay.

- Yeah? Are you sure?

- Yeah. Yeah.

- Alright.

Have a good night, Conor.

- Uh, you too, Mary.

- George Bush

was in Baltimore today.

George Bush Jr., that is.

The Vice president's

son came to town

to announce the lineup

for his father's Maryland

presidential campaign.

Congresswoman Helen Bentley

and former

Congresswoman Marjorie Holt

were named co-chairs

for the Republican campaign.

Meanwhile, the senior

George Bush is in Poland.

The vice president made

a dramatic appearance

with solidarity leader

Lech Walesa today.

Bush concludes his

Poland visit Tomorrow

with the tour of the

n*zi concentration camps

at Auschwitz and Birkenau.

Keith Eric must,

h- he never steps in the

ring if he doesn't think

he's gonna really walk

all over the opposition.

One of his tactics we've

seen him use before,

he'll try to jump his opponent

before the bell sounds.

- How about a song, Sandy?

Here in my car

I feel safest of all

I can lock all my doors

It's the only way to live

In cars

Here in my car

I can only receive

I can listen to you

It keeps me stable for days

In cars

Here in my car

I know I started to think

About leaving tonight

Although nothing seems right

In cars

- Are you hungry?

Did you feed the goldfish today?

When we get home, I'll

start the water for you.

- I already took a bath.

- I bet you

didn't wash your hair.

You used to love when

I washed your hair.

- Are you feeling sick?

- No, I'm

feeling much better.

- You don't sound better. You

sound like you're still sick.

We'll be home soon.

- From

around your town

and across the country,

this is "America Today."

- We're glad to have you

with us on "America Today."

I'm Neal Browne.

Every year, dozens

of eagles, hawks,

and other birds of prey

are seriously injured.

Some are shot by people,

others get hit by cars or

stuck on barbed wire fences.

There are facilities

around the country

to care for those birds.

One of them is in Colorado,

Reporter Gary Shapiro and

photographer Brian Gill

take us to Boulder to

introduce us to a lady

who does more than just

care for her birds of prey.

- They're

born to be free-

- Hello?

- Hey, Conor. It's Mary.

I'm sorry for

coming by so early.

- Hey, Mary. What's going on?

- Well, I was

actually wondering

if you could check

something for me.

Is there any blood in the milk?

- What?

- Blood in the milk?

- Mary?

- Come on, Sandy.

Gonna get you. Gonna get you.

Come on.

Gimme, gimme.

Gimme that.

- January 13th, 1982.

At 4:01 on that snowy

afternoon, Air Florida Flight 90

was at the bottom of the

Washington D.C. Potomac River.

The rescue drama was about

to be played out in real time

on live television.

The Boeing 737 had collided

with the 14th Street Bridge

shortly after takeoff

from National Airport

on its way to Fort Lauderdale.

Four people laid

dead on the bridge

and America watched in disbelief

as helicopters

hovered over the river

searching for survivors.

Only five people were pulled

out of the water alive.

- I don't feel like

singing tonight, Sandy.

Goodnight.

- Do you

remember the summer

we stayed at the

beach with your aunt

and you had the kite that

was shaped like a horse?

- I loved that kite.

- Until the rope snapped

and it flew away over the ocean.

- I was so sad.

- Do you

remember what I told you?

- You said now

the horse was free

and it was going to run

all the way to heaven.

- Do you

want to go to heaven?

- Number one in

American customer satisfaction

for only $500 down

and $99 a month.

- Sandy.

Sandy. Come on.

There's nothing there.

Come on. It's movie time.

Come on.

- What'd you think?

- Hope you don't have

any bad dreams tonight.

- And now we can watch

it whenever we want.

- We'll clean up in the morning.

Come on Sandy. Let's go to bed.

Sandy?

Sandy.

Sandy?

Come on.

Sandy.

Sandy?

Sandy?

Sandy.

Sandy? Sandy?

Sandy?

Sandy.

Come on.

Sandy?

- I'll be right with you.

Oh!

- Mary?

- Hi, Conor.

- What

are you doing here?

- I work here.

This is the new job I

told you about, remember?

Are you okay?

What's going on?

- I don't know what's going

on. I just wanna find my dog.

- Okay. Okay.

Just hold on. Come.

Here. Drink this.

It's an elixir. It'll

calm you down.

There you go.

Deep breaths. Just relax.

I'll be right with you.

Stay here. Keep breathing.

I'll be right back.

How's it going?

- I need

your strongest rope.

- Here it is. What are

you gonna do with it?

- I'm setting

a trap for Ixaroth.

- Oh, well, good luck.

Are you feeling better?

- Yeah, a bit.

But something

doesn't make sense.

- Well, yeah.

Look at your watch.

Time moves differently here.

- Where am I?

This is a map of Obex?

- Mm-hmm.

So you are here. I

also have shop here.

- I've seen this before.

Concatix Castle.

- Mm-hmm.

The entrance to the

Nightmare Realm.

A truly terrible place.

Hm.

- Looks scary.

- That's where the demon

king, Ixaroth, lives.

He rules over all of Obex.

He won't stop until he's

devoured every living soul.

I'm afraid that

Ixaroth took Sandy.

- Ixaroth took Sandy?

Well then I have to go to

Concatix Castle

and get her back.

- No, not so fast.

You're gonna need supplies.

Ixaroth has placed his

minions across the land.

- Goodbye, Mary.

- Goodbye, Conor.

- You mind cutting me loose?

- Of course. Sorry.

- Say what's your name?

- Name's Conor.

- Conor. Hmm,

that's kind of familiar.

Well, I'm an RCA Victor

Model 14-S-7074G.

But you can call me Victor.

Just tell me, Conor,

where you headed?

- Concatix Castle.

- Concatix Castle?

Now why would you want to go

to a nasty place like that?

- Rescue my dog, Sandy.

- Sandy.

Yeah, I bet she's

a real good dog

if you'd go all the way

to that castle rescue her.

You ever seen "Lassie?"

- Uh-huh.

- Now

that's a good show.

I always wondered

how they get that dog

to do all that stuff.

- I'm sorry, Victor.

I have to go.

- Now hold up. You

don't wanna go that way.

- Yes I do. It's

the shortest path.

- Yeah, but

there's a better path.

It's faster and we can

listen to music on the way.

Come on, I'll show you.

- You sure?

- Sure as the

six o'clock evening news.

We just gotta make a quick

stop in the Valley of Bones.

Here it is.

This right here, the better way.

- My mom had a

car just like this.

- It's unlocked.

- Yep.

And the key should

be under the visor.

- That's were my

mom kept them too.

- It's a good

place to keep 'em.

If and when you're

boat comes home

I hope you find

you're not alone

Set yourself up

with a late, late show

- This is kind of weird, but

this car smells like my mom.

- Oh really?

What'd she smell like?

- Cigarettes.

She smoked Camels

till the day she died.

- Oh, I'm sorry, Conor.

I didn't know she'd passed.

- She was a good mom.

When I was little she

would sing lullabies

to help fall asleep.

- And what

about your dad?

- He died when I was little.

I don't have any

memories of him.

- Oh geez, I'm sorry.

- His plane crashed in the

mountains. They never found it.

- You don't say.

- It was hard on my mom.

- Yeah, I bet.

- I just hope they're

in heaven now.

- Heaven.

Now that's a nice idea.

Do you wanna know what

my idea of heaven is?

- Sure.

- So get this,

it's a real special place

where all the old televisions,

they, once they're outta

service, of course,

they just get to sit there

and they spend the rest of

their days watching people.

- Watching people?

- That's right.

Give the TVs a chance to

do some of the watching.

- Okay. I like that.

- Pretty good, right?

What about you? What's

your idea of heaven?

- Just a day at the

beach with my dog.

- With Sandy?

- Yeah.

- Do you love her?

- With all my heart.

- You're gonna get

her back. I just know it.

And when you do,

you're gonna take her

straight to the beach.

If and when,

ooh, I feel fine

- Ma'am? Are you okay?

Ma'am, are you okay?

Ma'am?

- Victor!

Victor. Victor.

Victor!

Victor.

- Mm? Why'd

we stop driving?

Conor?

- Victor.

- Conor?

Conor! Conor!

Oh, sh*t. Oh.

- I'm hurt.

- Oh, that

ain't good, buddy.

Okay, all right.

Come on, let's go.

I got an idea.

Come on.

You've got this.

Stay with me

buddy. Stay with me.

Just a little bit further.

Come on. You got this.

Almost there. Stay with me.

Come on. You're

gonna be alright.

Come on. Almost there.

- How long's

it supposed to take?

- It should only take

a couple minutes.

- Oh, my stars.

I really hope this works.

- It'll work.

- I don't know, Mary.

Mm. I don't know.

All that blood.

I guess I'm worried

he's gonna die.

- You know, Victor,

even if he does die,

it's not the end.

One life can take many forms.

For a caterpillar, its

life ends in darkness,

but then it emerges from a

chrysalis reborn as a butterfly.

- Conor! You're

alive.

- Mary.

- Hi, Conor.

How do you feel?

- I feel reborn.

It's locked. Is there

another way in?

- Doesn't look like it.

- Step back.

- Careful.

Ow. f*ck.

Gonna try all the combinations.

- Wait, are,

are you kidding me?

It's 10 billion possibilities.

You know how many

years that takes?

- I don't care. I

have to save Sandy.

- Conor.

Hey, it's late.

It's dark and, and we don't

know what's out there.

What we need to do, is just

get a good night's rest

and in the morning we'll

find another way in, alright?

Hey. Hey, come on now.

Look, we can get started as soon

as that sun starts to peak

through those

mountains, alright?

Buddy, don't you worry.

We're gonna get you in there.

Alright? I promise.

- Okay.

- I just

figured it out.

- The lock combination?

- No. Figured out why

your name was so familiar.

I didn't see it before,

but from this angle in

the flickerin' light,

you look just like him.

You see, there was this man

who lived alone.

He would watch me every day

when he got home

after a long day's work.

And then he met this girl

and they fell in love.

And the two of them would

watch me on Friday nights.

Before long, the

girl got pregnant

and they had a little boy.

And the three of 'em

would watch me together.

And on Saturday mornings,

the, the man would get up early

while the mom

was still sleeping.

And then the man and the boy

would watch cartoons together.

You know what that

boy's name was?

It was Conor.

Don't you see? That's why

your name was so familiar.

That little boy was you.

I was your daddy's TV.

- You were my dad's TV?

- That's right.

From what I could tell,

he was a hard worker.

He loved your mom,

and boy, he loved you.

- Victor, I'm gonna go to sleep,

and first thing in the morning,

I'm gonna wake up

and go get my dog.

- Hey, you

mind if, uh, I stay up

and watch you for a bit?

Just till I go to sleep.

- Sure, Victor. See

you in the morning.

- Victor.

Victor?

Victor!

Victor!

Victor.

Victor!

Victor!

- Time moves

differently here.

- Victor.

Ixaroth!

Where's Sandy?!

Sandy.

Sandy. Sandy.

Hang in there, Sandy.

I'm here. It's okay.

This isn't real. This

is just a nightmare.

- Hey, Conor. This

ain't no nightmare.

Your dog is dead and

you're dead.

- Watch it, Conor. Geez.

- Mary?

- You're so pathetic.

- What?

- Just get away from

me. I can't stand you.

- What's wrong?

- Grocery shopping for

you every Wednesday

was the worst part of my week.

- Mary...

- I hate you.

- Victor!

- Conor!

Make it stop, Conor.

Oh God, Conor. It hurts.

Turn it off.

- How, Victor? I don't know how.

- Unplug me.

Just unplug me!

Tender shepherd,

tender shepherd

Let me help you

count your sheep

- Mom.

One in the meadow

Two in the garden

Three in the nursery

Fast asleep

Fast asleep

- Your grandmother.

So many memories.

- I've never seen these before.

- You were a happy baby.

Until your father abandoned us.

- You mean when he died

in the plane crash?

- He didn't die

in a plane crash.

He left me for another woman.

- No, he didn't.

- Yes he did.

- That's not true.

- Yes it is.

- No it's not.

- Yes.

- No!

- Remove your skin.

- You k*lled my dog.

- You chose this life.

You brought this on yourself.

You put yourself into the game.

You live your miserable

life reflected in screens.

Look how pitiful you are.

- Hi, my name is Conor

Thomas Marsh. I'm 36.

I live in Baltimore and I'm

the reason my dog is dead.

Someday, we'll all

live in computers

because life outside is too sad.

I have no real friends.

Sandy was my only

friend and I k*lled her.

- By playing the game

you k*lled your dog.

- You k*lled my dog!

Come on, Sandy.

Let's go outside.
