couple of steps last night.

She's only ten months old.

She skipped crawling altogether
because it was, like, beneath her.

They start walking at, like, a year.

but Olympia is saying a word already.

She said "birds."

Mikel, what was your first word?
Was it, "Oh Lord"?

Actually, my first word was "mama."

because it's cold, and it's December?

Speaking of babies,

we're about to go meet the Collier family.

We're the proud parents of one daughter
named Isla, and...

-Quadruplets.

When we bought the house,
it was plenty of room for two kids,

which is what we planned on having.

And now our cozy house
is way too small for a family of seven.

So tiny.

Since the quads have been born,
it's just been survival mode for us.

[Justin] Oh, 100% survival mode.

Yeah. I feel like
we're drowning in baby stuff.

[Justin] With the mess everywhere,

it makes it really hard
to get organized with anything.

I don't know how to do it.
Do you know how?

with making the space we have

just function better for our size family.

[Mikel] It feels like a maternity ward
at a hospital. This is a lot of work.

Yeah. Sometimes, it feels like a daycare.

-But no one leaves.

And we don't get paid for it.

I'd love to just hear, how do you manage
four infants at the same time?

Well, I go to work.

-Oh wow.

[Madison] Yeah. I am a teacher,
so I have to leave early.

[Justin] And I actually work from home,
so I get all the kids.

-Yeah.
-I bring 'em all down.

-Feed 'em, change 'em, play with 'em.

-Nap time.
-[Justin] Get 'em a nap.

Hoping they stay asleep for an hour
so I can get some stuff done.

My desk right now is a TV dinner tray
that I pull out when they're napping.

-And I'll get on my laptop and...
-[Mikel] You are joking.

Nope. That's how I work from home.

Oh Lord. So how many bedrooms?

-Only three.
-Three.

It's about 1,700 square feet.

-And this is your living room, right?
-[Justin] Yes.

[Jessica]
So, what does "living" mean to you now?

We kinda stay down here most of the time
'cause it's more like a convenience.

'Cause we have all the swings,
changing table down here,

diapers and all the things that we need.

So, is there a nursery?

-[Madison] Well, sort of.
-[Justin] Kind of.

So the quads came a lot quicker
than we were expecting.

They came at 28 weeks.

We do have a room upstairs

that we tried to turn into a nursery,
but we haven't quite finished.

[Ati] Wow.

It's still survival mode for you, right?

-Big time.
-Yeah.

And right here
is sort of survival central, kind of?

This is where they sleep and eat.
This is where we change diapers.

But you'd like to return to the pre...
You know, the living room space?

Yeah, I would love to eventually have
our living room back.

That would be really great.

So, how are you having four babies,
one changing pad?

[Madison] Kinda like an assembly line.

Change, put 'em in their thing,
and then line 'em up and... Yeah.

Where are you keeping all of the diapers?

[Justin]
The garage. That's where everything's at.

That's our baby depot,
as we like to call it.

That's where all the diapers
and all the extra stuff is, out there.

-[Brooks] I wanna check out this place.
-[Justin] Of course. Wanna take 'em up?

[Madison] Let me get our friend
that'll take care of the babies.

-[Ati] Okay.

There's just stuff stacked everywhere.

Organized 'em by size. Wipes.

These are all diapers as well.

Isla's school that she goes to
gave us some diapers

that we haven't unwrapped all of them yet
'cause we've been busy.

There's a lot of, like, organization
in the disorganization here.

Right. I mean, it's very intentional,

but it's hard to grab now.

You know, like, if you need something,
the organizational system

that you're currently employing
makes it hard to actually use the stuff.

For sure.

[Mikel] Oh.
[Madison laughs]

See, you didn't tell me it was like this.

Madison. This looks like the land
where old cribs go to die.

[Madison laughs]

The cribs were donated to us
from sweet people,

and it was hard to figure out
what went with what.

Now you can see we've got three.
We don't know where to put the fourth.

-[Mikel] We can't fit four cribs.
-[Madison] You can't walk around.

No, you can't, you can't.
And that's a circus for you.

What is the space back here?

[Justin] This is an office area

that my father-in-law
and I started to build.

When the quads came,
I kinda just abandoned that ship.

If y'all wanna come in,
I can show you around a little bit.

[Jessica] Okay.

Holy cow. You built out this whole room?

[Justin]
This was supposed to be my office,

and it's not really working.

We never got around to finishing it,
and it's kinda turned into more storage.

Are you, like, wedded to the drywall
and the framing in here,

-or can we get rid of it?

It's had its time here. Time to go.

I need an office space, but we still
need a place for all this storage.

What do you want this space to feel like?

We really like it
as an extension of the house,

not just a garage area.

We need room for the kids to play.

We can get our house back.
They can have their area.

So, basically, what you want is like,

some grow-up space
and some grown-up space.

-[Justin] Exactly. That's perfect.

I know it doesn't work as a nursery,

but we want it to be
somewhere for the kids.

Okay. And I'm just spitballing here,

but even your husband,
I heard him say he's working...

Yeah. He works from home.
A space for him would...

Something like that in the future,
you know, would be ideal too.

Okay. We're gonna work
through this thing together.

They got babies everywhere.

Every room in that house
is bursting at the seams.

So we need to come up with solutions,
not just for now when they're babies,

but also for when the kids get bigger,
because they are gonna get bigger.

And bigger and bigger and bigger.

And bigger.

[Jessica] So, the most practical
and probably functional solution would be

to turn the garage
into more of a nursery for all the babies.

-In the garage?
-[Jessica] Yeah.

[Ati] You know what? We can do that.
Like, this is the garage, right?

In order to make it a livable space,

we can remove the garage doors,
reframe that wall, and add windows.

Then we can take down
the walls of Dad's unfinished office,

which will give us the space
to put four cribs in there.

Okay, now I'm beginning to understand.
Because I'm like, "The garage?"

Like, "Why would we slam the babies
in the garage?"

So, let me ask you this,
'cause I don't know anything about babies.

Can these cribs do something?

Like, can they spin,
can they turn, can they, like...?

[Ati] No, no, no. There's, like,
an entire government agency

that's there for, like,
children's safety regulation,

so we don't want to build baby cribs.
I think we buy those.

I love it. And wait, if we're gonna
hack that space into a nursery,

we have to do something about
the amount of stuff that is in there.

-Yes.

There was so much stuff in there.

[Jessica] Okay, so what if we have
a closet with floor-to-ceiling doors

so we can hide all of that?

-Everything could be really accessible.
-Okay.

And we do something kind of creative
on the storage doors, right?

So what do you think?
If we do something like this,

is it sliding doors,
do they open up, do they roll up?

I think we need
to have the doors be sliding doors,

because if we have them open out,
then they're eating into the space.

[Jessica] I agree.

This is a really good start, but we need
to think about the future as well.

Like, where are they gonna sleep
when they grow a little bit older?

Because right now, that nursery
is just too small for four beds.

Can a twin bed fit in there?

A twin bed could fit in there, definitely.

Can two twin beds fit next to each other?

Okay, you're pushing it, sister.

There are these beds
that can kind of come down.

-[Mikel] Okay.
-And then flip back up.

Could we design it so that it's almost
like a stack of two beds?

Like a bed on top, bed on the bottom?

-Like bunk beds.
-Yeah, we gotta hack these.

Okay, well, that's a potential idea.
I think that could work.

So, if those beds are convertible
and they flatten,

we could put Dad's office in there
and a desk or something during the day?

Yeah. So, we can get
two kids in there and a desk.

So we still have
two children that need beds.

Since they're gonna be a little bit older,
we can separate them at that point,

and have the other two
in our garage space.

So maybe, instead of relying on the walls,
we look at the floor.

[Ati] So, to maximize space,

let's build a raised platform
off the floor,

then frame two trundle beds
that are hidden in the platform.

-[Mikel] That's smart. Really smart.
-Yes. So smart.

So, if we're taking out Dad's office,
that still leaves us

with a lot of empty space
towards the bottom of that room.

-This section.
-[Mikel] Yeah, so we need to hack it.

[Brooks] I think we should do play space.

I think as the kids grow
and transition and get older,

we can have a play space for little kids
and then a play space for big kids.

-[Mikel] I like that.
-[Brooks] Right?

Remember how high
the garage ceiling was?

So, if we could build some kind of nook,
a reading nook or something,

and I thought we could have stairs
that have, like, secret drawers in them.

-[Mikel] Drawers.
-[Jessica] Cool.

[Brooks] Or it's just open,
so each step has storage.

-And then how do they get down?
-Right.

[Brooks] They can slide down.

-[Jessica] A pole.
-Slide! Yes.

[Brooks] They slide down.

I was also thinking,
'cause we have that raised platform,

if you continue it all the way over,
then we could sink a portion of it.

It could be padded, we could add toys
and ba*ls or other fuzzy things to touch.

We need to teach them
innovation and creativity

and learning and touching and licking.

-All the things that you do as kids.
-Licking?

Yeah. Say what?

[Mikel] Don't touch me.

So, the plan is to hack the garage
and turn it into livable space.

We're gonna create a nursery
for the quads now

and also a playroom
for when they grow older.

So, we're going to demo Dad's old office

and also take out the garage doors,

so that we could reframe those walls
and add windows.

Also, you still wanted us
to get a slide incorporated in, right?

So the reading nook's up here.

They can go up the steps,
grab toys and books, and then slide down.

Below it, I'm thinking of a ball pit

and some kind of sensory wall
or activity station.

-Nice. That sounds really cool.

They're huge!

We're gonna have four of those,

and those are, like,
four feet wide by ten feet tall,

so we will have so much storage

[Jessica] I wanna paint them.

Then we can add
arch-shaped decals on the front of them,

like corkboard and holographic film.

And inside,
we'll have storage for diapers,

wipes, clothes, everything they need.

That is really awesome
because that's really interactive.

Cool. So, do you need the rest
of the doors to finish the design?

So, with these frames, we're looking
to get about 76 by 40 for these, correct?

To utilize every inch of space,

we'll build a raised platform

to hide two trundle beds and a drawer
between them for more storage.

We can cover it all with artificial grass
to create a fun and safe play area.

-[Freddie] Okay, cool.
-[Ati] Yeah.

[Ati] These beds are gonna be such
a game changer for the Collier family,

because the kids can have a place to sleep
even after they're out of their nurseries.

This family has been so busy
with all of the babies,

they really haven't had time to, like,

So I'm gonna have Dad and Isla
come to headquarters

so we can work on
the shadow box project together.

We're gonna make some shadow box inserts
for each one of the kids.

The shadow boxes are also
going to double as storage.

So you kinda get a two for one.

So, what's it like on a daily basis?

[Justin] Oh, we're slammed,
and honestly, it's all my wife.

She's up at five to six a.m.
every morning.

She goes to work, she comes home
and she takes care of the babies

while I'm working, so she's the glue
that really holds our family together.

I just don't know how she does it,
honestly.

[Mikel] Aw.

And these were actually
Isla's first pair of glasses.

'cause we have all of the storage,

it's going to have this amazing mobile
that comes out,

so that the babies
have something to look at,

keep them distracted
while they get their diapers changed.

If I was a baby, I would be stoked.

[Jessica]
Really, it's gonna be so amazing.

Imagine two of them on these walls.
Dual poop changing stations.

So cool.

Even as babies, they can go down there,

and then when they get older,

they can come up the stairs
and go down the slide. Ati, watch out!

What's so cool about these beds
is the fact that they can actually, like,

fold back into the wall,
so it gives us so much more room.

And Dad can have
his own little office space.

This is tremendously
mentally comforting to me.

not to just solve the problems
that you had right now.

We wanted to also think
about solutions for the future.

like a graveyard of crib parts,

four built-together cribs,

and they're all on casters so they move.

of this art installation we've made?

into what's now the lofted reading nook.

We've got this whole area

where you can relax and read up here,
and reading books.

We've hacked the stairs,
and then below you've got the ball pit.

[Madison] That is the neatest thing.

[Brooks] What's your favorite part?

That's right. The slide.

-The slide!
-[Brooks] One, two, three.

[all cheer]

-Hey, here I come. Ah!
-[Madison] That was awesome.

The space is so inventive. It's so cool.

There's the reading nook up here
with a more of a quiet space.

They have the ball pit underneath it.

I love the busy board.

Then you've got, you know,
the stairs, and a slide.

I can't wait to get in the ball pit.

-He loves the ball pit.
-It's amazing.

[both laugh]

So, the other day,
Dad and Isla had an opportunity

to come down to headquarters with us
to make some really fun shadow boxes.

And so, we've made them
into storage shadow boxes.

-What?
-More storage.

[Mikel] So you can hide
everything you need back there.

[Madison] Wow. I love having
all these special moments from the quads

'cause it was a lot
when they were in the NICU and everything,

and I wasn't able to really
put anything out.

This really means a lot
that you guys did this.

What you guys have done for us
is given us a chance to breathe

and to relax for a second.
Like, we can make this work for us.

Looking towards the future,
we actually have room to grow as a family.

Having this space just...
It really has transformed our home and...

-[Justin] Our life.

It's made it so much easier.
I mean, we have what we need.
