When I first met Baba in Puttaparthi
I didn't come as His devotee
At that time, my focus was only
on business and earning money
Once I had gone to Bengaluru
on a business trip
My destination was Bengaluru
But my cab driver took a wrong U-turn
I lost my way and
reached this Puttaparthi
All my minute-to-minute schedules
Swami changed in mere seconds

I prided myself in thinking

The way I pleaded to Swami
to save my child

He has unlocked and shown
My son He gave me
as His blessing
If He wants to take my son's life
I won't ask Him why

I will not question His love
I won't bargain against His wish

This elephant called Gajendran
You know what he finally realized
The elephant thought his strength
was his shield till the very end
When the crocodile began
to drag him into its jaws
When his power was
reduced to nothing
Gajendran got enlightened
There is no safe sanctuary other than God

When the elephant realized this
absolute truth and shouted 'Narayana'
Heaven opened its gates and

My wife Jane and I
built a house in California
Near the Big Sur
On top of the forest mountain hill
Facing the Pacific
It was a paradise
We built it with one thought

But one summer
A massive forest fire erupts
It started miles away
'But it came fast'

'The Emergency Team ordered us to evacuate'

'You gave it, You protect it'
'We tied one small photo of Baba
in front of the window'
'Facing the forest'
'And left'
For the next 2 days
we were helpless
We saw the neighborhood vanish
Houses burned
Even the fire fighters were overwhelmed
Then the fire reached our area
But then we got the News
Our house was untouched!
Everything around
The trees, houses, garden was ash
But our home
'Not even a scratch'
'And when we returned'
It was like a miracle had stood guard
All black and charred around
'But our home stood there'

Peaceful
And outside
'The Baba photo was fine'
'Still fluttering in the wind'
