[Pinecone] "Next in line."

Today's the day, Pony.

Mom and Dad are finally letting us come
to their weekly town meeting.

This is what being a ruler is all about.

Citizens come to them with their problems.
And they're like, "Bam, solutions."

Queen Kimya and King Arlo getting results.

I bet by the end of the day, Mom and Dad
will have helped everyone in town.

[groans]

Your application is in process.

We'll see you in a week, once we've
completed the environmental survey.

Thank you. And goodbye, town meeting!

[neighs]

Next citizen in line is Kohlrabi,
the town grocer.

Kohlrabi, how's the avocado crop?

Good! Too good.

I have so many avocados,
I have nowhere to put them.

I was hoping to expand
my display outside my store.

That's a great idea.

But a display could impede foot traffic.
Better get a committee on it.

Oh. One moment. One moment.
One moment. Ah! Form 9H-7C6.

Now just fill that out in quadruplicate.
Then check back in a few weeks.

What? A few weeks?
How does that solve her problem now?

Next in line, citizen florist Buttercup.

Yes, hello.

I'm not getting enough customers
in my flower shop,

and I suspect
it's because my daffodils are too dainty.

So I've developed a spell that will help
them grow when they hear a jazzy tune.

[scatting]

I love that.

Ah, thank you.

I'd like your permission to sell these
new musically-enhanced flowers in my shop.

Sure. Everyone loves music.

But bylaw 632J stipulates

that magically-enhanced
commercial products must be monitored.

We'll get you a permit for that.
It'll be approved in two months.

Two months?

[sighs] Don't mind me. [chuckles]

I thought we were gonna be solving
like a zillion problems, Pony.

But so far, we've only solved, like, four.

I know I could help way more people,
way faster. Come on.

[neighs]

-Pinecone and Pony's Help Ya Booth.
-[neighs]

Problems solved by creative youth.

All problems solved
in 30 minutes or less, guaranteed.

Hiya.

Hiya, Beetle. What's the problem?

I lost one of my lucky socks.

I took them off to air out my toes.

But when I went to put them back on,
I could only find lefty.

These socks are very lucky,
but only when together.

So, will you help me find righty?

Of course.

For when a person is needy,
Pinecone and Pony are speedy.

[whimpers] This is taking forever.

Are you sure you lost your sock
over here, Beetle?

It's definitely here.

Or in the meadow. Or in the training yard.
Or at my great-aunt Elba's house.

It's already been 30 minutes,

and there are so many other people
we could be helping. Hmm.

Huh.

I know we said we'd help her
get her sock back,

but it's not like she needs
the same sock, right?

[blusters]

-Your lucky right sock, madame.
-[gasps]

Are you sure that's my sock?
It looks pretty clean.

Uh, well, it is lucky, right?

[grunts] Thanks, Pinecone. Thanks, Pony.

Yes! One problem down,
plenty more to go, right, Pony?

[neighs]

We want to have a band practice.

But both our parents are taking naps.

Hmm. Oh, why don't you practice here?
Everyone loves music, right?

-Great idea, Pinecone.
-Thanks.

Next in line.

So, I'm supposed to do some reading

for this Wiz Kids report
on this ancient bubble battle,

but it's really cutting into my
bubble bath. Could you sum it up for me?

Sure. Gladys taught us all about that.

Uh, a wizard named Noor No-Beard and…
[stammers] …a warrior named,

um, Brian the Bare-Cheeked,

yeah, they blew the first bubbles
in the Great Bubble Battle.

Uh, maybe I should run home
to check my history book though.

-[neighs]
-Nah, that would take too long.

-[neighs]
-Happy writing!

Thanks, Pinecone.

Another satisfied customer, eh, Pony?

Next.

[grunting]
My store is overflowing with avocados.

Can you think of a place to put them
while I wait for that committee?

Hmm.

[chuckles] Looks like there's plenty
of space on your roof.

Why not up there?

Hey, y-- yeah.

People can shop and enjoy the view.

Thanks, Pinecone.

Greetings. Uh, people still aren't coming
into my store.

Can you think of a way
to attract customers

until I am able
to sell my magical flowers?

Why don't you put your magic daffodil
outside as a demo?

I know I'd wanna shop somewhere
with a cool plant on display.

[gasps] That's a marvelous idea.
Thank you.

Time to get you ready
for the spotlight, my love.

[neighs]

Don't worry, pal. It's just a flower.

What could go wrong?

[humming, scatting]

Can you believe how many people
we've helped?

It must be a record.

But the real joy is getting
to see everyone's happy faces.

I didn't get my history token.

Greymoon said the facts
in my report were all wrong.

Oops.

Maybe I mixed up the names
of the first bubble blowers?

They weren't the first bubble blowers.
They were the first stubble growers.

Thanks for nothing.

Huh.
I guess that face didn't look so happy.

But one mistake isn't bad, right?

[snorts]

Okay, so I should have checked
my history book.

But Nova should have
done the reading himself.

And if I took the time
to do everything perfectly,

I wouldn't have solved so many problems.

That's what it's all about, right?

Helping as many people as possible,
as fast as possible.

-Huh?

Uh, this is new.

I tried to fix everyone's problems
as fast as possible.

-But I just made everything worse.
-[groans]

I'm sorry.

We get it, Pinecake.
Your heart was in the right place.

But we've got to do something about this.
What's the first step?

Okay, first we have to protect everyone
from these avocados.

On it.

Yes!

Yeah, I gotcha. [grunting]

Thanks, Mom and Dad.

Next, we've got to take care
of that flower.

[scatting, shouting]

Buttercup, there's gotta be something
we can do to make it shrink.

Well, funk music might help.
But alas, I'm not funky!

Leave that to us.

Thank you.
That was "A Peaceful Summer's Day."

And now get ready for
"A Gentle Babbling Brook."

One, two, three, four!

Stop! I have a request.
Do you know any funk music?

Should we start with avocado cleanup?

-[whinnies]
-[chuckles] Way ahead of me, pal.

Well, we'll need
to survey the shopkeepers next to you

before we okay
your glow-in-the-dark lance display.

-Gladys?
-That is form 36T.

[groaning] Here it is!

You'll have the go-ahead
in only two months.

[neighs]

[Hawthorn] "A spell of your own."

-[chittering]
-[grunts]

There. Thanks for helping me carry
my gear, Pony.

I know it was a little heavy.

But now we've got all the stuff we need
for a fun day of playing sports!

-[Beetle] Oh, here.
-[breathing heavily]

Fast as light, strong as steel.

Make me like a storm on wheels.

The Wiz Kids are on the training yard?

Maybe they're playing sports too.

Come on! [groaning]

Hey, Hawth.

First question, what are you playing?
Second question, how do we get in on it?

Today's our annual fencing tournament.

Fencing? Like, with swords?

Where's your sword?
Can I have a sword? Sword!

N-- Oh, no. N-- No swords.

This is wizard fencing.

-Oh. So, how do you play? [yells]
-[whinnies]

So glad you asked.

Each round, I will announce a category

and two Wiz Kids will go head-to-head
to improvise a spell based on a theme.

At the end of the round, I will choose
a winner based on originality.

So you're making up spells on the spot?

But I thought being a wizard was all
about following spells from books.

Following instructions is very important.

But it's just as important
to get creative.

Where would we be without experimental
trailblazers, like Lakna Long-Limbs?

Lakna wasn't always called that.

But a growth spell she invented
backfired on her. [laughs]

-Ah, well. That's progress for you.
-[gulps]

Anyhoo, whichever Wiz Kid wins
the most rounds out of ten

gets to take home the Wizard Fencing Cup.

Many great wizards have won that trophy.

Like Hawthorn's own grandmother,
Magnolia the Majestic.

Well, I'll leave you to prepare.

Not that you need to.

[gasps] This sounds like fun.

-[neighs]
-Or not.

Your face says not.

It's just that the idea
of having to come up with spells

-on the spot is so stressful.
-[chirps]

But you're a great wizard!

Yeah, when I'm prepared.

But here you can't even use books
for reference.

-Books, Pinecone! Books!
-[grunting]

[chirping, kisses]

I just don't want to fail
in front of everybody.

You won't. 'Cause me and Pony
are gonna coach ya to victory,

by following the excellent advice of…

Think Like a Winner by
Ida "Winning is for Winners" Braveheart.

Don't worry about a thing, bud.
We're gonna coach ya to victory.

What? It's my coach look.

Uh, thanks, Pinecone.

I feel more like a winner already.

Aw. Thank you both for your originality.

-But Celestia is the winner of this round.

Three, two, one.

-[bell rings]
-Spellcast!

A dash of color, a mix of might.
An expl*sive combo gives me height.

Huh?

That spell had a real spark of creativity.

-Don't you agree, kids?
-[Wiz Kids sigh]

And I'm sure
we'll all love Hawthorn's spell too.

-Mm-hmm.
-Yeah.

-[laughs]
-Whoo-hoo!

-[Fauna] You're gonna fail.
-[Beetle] You should just give up.

[groans] Better spell than Nova.

Uh-- Uh-- Quiet rustle of the trees,
conjure up a gentle breeze.

Oh, a simple gust spell.

Oh, well.

Just as a reminder, this tournament is
about creating new spells,

not using old ones.

The winner of this round is Nova.

But that's okay.

What happened, Pony? I was just trying
to help Hawthorn feel better.

Aw, don't be glum, sugarplum.

Grandma Magnolia?

Why didn't you want Hawthorn to see you?

I knew how nervous he'd be,
and I didn't want to make it any worse.

He puts enough pressure on himself
as it is.

That's why I was trying to give him tips
on how to win.

I know he's really scared of failing.

Oh, but failing can be just
as good as winning.

I don't follow.

[chuckles] Let me put it this way,

if he didn't win,
would you think any less of him?

No way!
I'd be proud of him just for trying.

Oh. Maybe that's what you should tell him.

Wow. You're a really good coach.
You should take these.

-[gasps] Yes!
-[whinnies]

Thanks, sugarplum.

I could really go for a snack.

-Ooh, those are some juicy-looking acorns.
-[whinnies]

-[sighs]
-Hawthorn? I really think

you should come back to the tournament.

Why? So I can fail in front of everyone?

-Failing can be just as good as winning.
-I don't follow.

Remember what Greymoon said?

All the great wizard trailblazers
failed sometimes.

But that's what made them great.

They took chances.

But what if everyone just thinks I'm bad?

I don't think that'll be a problem.

If you don't do it for me,
do it for that chipmunk over there.

[sighs] Okay.

But after this,
we should probably get out of the sun.

Oh! Thank you,
Reba and our charming helper toads,

for that lovely halftime performance.

And it looks like Hawthorn has returned
just in time

for his match against Celestia.

Category is "just desserts."

-Three, two, one.

piles of pie for you and me.

-[chuckles]
-[cheering]

-[laughs] You're up, Hawthorn.
-[chuckles]

-[sighs]
-[Pinecone] Hawthorn!

[Beetle] You got it Hawthorn!

-[Pinecone] You got this.
-Try whatever you feel.

You can do it!

What's the applause for?
I haven't even done anything yet.

I know. But whatever you do,
