The biggest concern for us was

the fact that you guys didn't have

your individual space.

to create space for two rooms.

It-it gives the openness to it.

And it still allows light through,

which is really great.

JESSICA: This feels like this can take

you into your preteen world and vibes.

And even as a young teenager,

you won't be mad at this room.

LIZZY:

That's right. You can grow into it.

It's, like, super cute.

Okay. But I think Miranda's outside,

and I think she's probably

literally screaming on the inside.

-JOSEPH: She's screaming on the inside.

I know she is.

-From all the excitement.

-VICTOR: Ooh.

Well, coming from a two-dad family,

a perspective of two beautiful mothers

that are doing it,

we appreciate that love you bring

for our daughter here to us.

We wanted you to feel like

you had a retreat, so we did the doors.

That lead out to your special place.

-YOLANDA: That's amazing.

-JESSICA: So we did little steps,

and we have little, like, florals.

-LIZZY: Because we know

how much you love nature.

-YOLANDA: It's beautiful.

-They literally built a whole garden

and pool oasis outside for you.

-Yes.

LIZZY:

So we wanted

to give you direct access to that.

-I'm not gonna want to leave.

-JESSICA: Great.

Now, the most important piece

of the puzzle, though,

is your middle-of-the-night

going into the restroom.

LIZZY:

Mm-hmm.

JESSICA:

The whole trek into the living room

and going around.

-Now.

-JOSEPH: Wow.

-VICTOR: Wow.

-Oh, my God.

-VICTOR: This is like a magic house.

-Oh.

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-(whooping)

-YOLANDA: Oh, yes.

Oh, my gosh!

-LIZZY: Direct access.

-YOLANDA: I love it.

That's perfect. I mean, oh, my goodness.

-I don't have to go

all the way around and again

about three times a night.

-And you still have a lock on the door,

so they won't bother you, either.

That's the most amazing thing for me,

to have my own room like that.

I feel like a queen when you go in there.

My God.

As I get older,

it's gonna be harder for me.

So, it's a game changer for me. I love it.

LIZZY:

For you to be

the matriarch of this family,

and for them wanting so badly

to give you something,

finally to be able to spoil you

like you've spoiled them.

That's what we wanted

to bring to this room.

YOLANDA:

And-and you did.

-It's like home.

You know, it feels homey.

-LIZZY: Yes.

-KIDS: Yeah.

-Having that type of literally three

generations in one household

is so special.

It really does take a village to

-raise a family.

And that's exactly what they're doing,

and I think

the fact that we were able

to give back to this family,

it touches us on a level that I don't

even think anyone would understand.

JESSICA:

So, we stocked a lot of the drawers,

a lot of the cabinets

with Honest products.

And then, here's some more.

So we hope

Our next family has not one,

but two grandmas living with them.

And we're from Woodland Hills, California.

I'm in real estate.

MORGAN:

And I'm a full-time mom

of our three boys.

In almost 11 years of marriage,

there's no words

for how much we love each other.

It took a lot of work for us

to have this family, you know?

As two women,

these children were so wanted.

They're just the joy of my life.

That's all I want is

to be here to raise them.

-Oh!

-Oh!

-I still got the fish.

-Oh, no, you made your brother cry.

-You want to put him in?

-No.

-Oh.

I was diagnosed with stage four

breast cancer in March of 2023.

There's no words for the feeling you have

when you hear those words.

You just can't breathe. You're--

Everything flashes before you, and

it's the worst feeling in the world.

AMBER:

I remember Morgan asking,

"Am I gonna beat this?"

And he said,

"Not many have."

And that was like

-That was it.

-Yeah.

MORGAN:

Once we realized the magnitude

of the situation,

how sick I was

and was going to be during treatment,

my mom and my grandma felt so helpless

living three hours away.

They just dropped everything to be here.

(singsongy): Morning.

What time's your appointment?

At 10:00. But Mom's

gonna take the kids to the park,

and then she'll grab them lunch, I think.

Primarily, they've taken care

of the boys so

that Amber could take care of me.

But they have also cooked for us.

They've cleaned for us.

KAREN:

Morgan, she's just got

the biggest heart.

The sweetest girl.

Just being here with her

and seeing how strong she is

has made us strong.

KAREN:

She's been going through a lot

of medical treatments, chemo

with the three babies, you know.

She needs a lot of help and support.

-Purple pad.

-You want your purple pad?

No, purple.

Okay. I get it.

It means everything to have them here.

They've just made it possible

for me to work on healing.

But

the only possible way for them to stay

here physically with us all the time

was to get an RV

and park it in the driveway.

KAREN:

We've been living in the RV now

for about eight months.

There's no mileage on it.

-It's

-No, it's just been parked there

since we bought it.

-AMBER: It's tight quarters for them.

-MORGAN:

It's-it's tight quarters for them.

I would give anything

-for them to have just a little space

comfortably to sleep, you know?

-Mm-hmm.

-A normal mattress.

-Yeah, a normal mattress. But

the layout of the house

is becoming more and more difficult.

Five people live in the house.

AMBER:

We don't have a guest room.

Two of the boys share a room.

We have a room. I share my office

with the baby.

(laughs) So we definitely did not have

room for them.

Westin, where are you?

MORGAN:

Aside from all the other hard things,

when I come home from chemo, it's rough.

Taking a bath--

that's, like, my Zen place.

The bathroom is not a sanctuary

-right now. (laughs)

-(laughs)

I wouldn't call it peaceful

-or working for us. Yeah.

-In and out. (laughs)

-Come here.

-(babbles)

You want to help Mommy work?

(grunts)

If the house were renovated--

and I don't know

how you'd do it--

but, somehow, if you made more room

or made the house more usable

for the family,

it would literally be life-changing.

-Don't touch. Don't touch.

-(whimpers)

And I think it would feel

like a little bit of a fresh start for us

in a time where we

-Could really use one.

I love them. I think they're great.

I think that when you walk into the house,

immediately, you feel nothing but love.

-This house is just like

-JESSICA: The grandma

-and the great-grandma.

-The grandma, the great-grandma.

I don't know. Immediately, I was touched.

Tell us about your home.

(sighs)

We love this house.

-We've been here almost eight years.

-AMBER: Yeah.

-Oh, wow.

-MORGAN: And when we moved in,

coming from, like, a little apartment,

it felt like a mansion.

We were like, "There's so much room."

-"How are we ever gonna fill it?"

-JESSICA: Yeah.

-That's how it happens.

-(laughs)

-'Cause when you moved,

it was just you two.

-It was just us.

And Hudson was eight months old.

-Eight months.

-He took up no space.

-Yeah, he took up no space.

-(laughing)

LIZZY:

That's deceiving.

And then with each child, it got smaller

-and smaller, as houses do.

-AMBER: Got smaller and smaller.

MORGAN:

And then, um,

Amber started needing a at-home office,

-and so then it got even smaller.

-JESSICA: Oh, okay.

And then where are you guys staying?

KAREN:

Hmm.

-In the front yard.

-(laughter)

LIZZY:

So after everything's done in the house,

the end of the day,

you guys retire to there?

-Yes.

-Yes. That's--

And how often are you guys here?

We're here 24/7, um,

but not always at the same time.

-We make sure

that one of us is here at all times

-Wow.

in case she needs to go

to the emergency.

-So you're just always all hands on deck.

-Yeah. On call.

-Mm-hmm.

-Yes.

-JESSICA: Okay.

LIZZY:

And that's a beautiful thing though,

for you guys to be able to have family

who's able to do that.

-Yeah.

-MORGAN: Absolutely.

It took something so horrible

to-to show us

uh, how precious life is

and our family is and these babies.

It's been beautiful, in spite of

JESSICA/LIZZY:

Mm.

the horror.

MORGAN:

Such a silver lining,

-the amount of time

we've all gotten to spend together.

-Mm-hmm.

LIZZY:

Listening to her speak

you almost forget their situation,

because

her outlook is positive.

-But then also listening to her mom speak.

-JESSICA: Yeah.

Their support system, it's so vibrant.

And I think, in this situation,

that's exactly what you-you wish for

-and that you hope to see.

-Mm. 100%.

Can we talk to Mom and Mom for a second

-without the boys? Is that okay?

-KAREN: We would be happy to babysit.

-(chuckling)

-Yes.

-LIZZY: I would love that.

-Want to go play basketball?

They will never ever see the world

the same.

-They will never be the same.

And everything gets turned on its head.

And you have to think

about how you spend your time,

-how you spend your money.

JESSICA:

All of that

shifts and changes dramatically,

and everyone's number one focus

is around healing.

-LIZZY: Your journey this year--

both of you, right?

-Yeah.

Tell us where we are in it

and, like, how-- like, how's that?

We don't really know

where we are right now.

Um, I'm kind of in

a little bit of a limbo.

-Mm-hmm.

-It's

it's been hard.

Never in a million years did I think

that I was gonna end up with this

-terminal diagnosis, you know?

-AMBER: She's young.

-Right.

-MORGAN: Like, you try and back-burner it

-as much as you can, but

-Mm.

that's-- You know,

all I have to do is look in the mirror.

And, like, most of the time,

I obviously don't recognize myself.

We've all been changed indefinitely

because of it.

The day-to-day's different now. It's

doctors' appointments or shots

or chemo or radiation, you know?

It's like there's always something,

-But you have to try

and pull the good out of it.

-Yeah.

Amber and I love each other so much.

That's another reason

why this has all been so hard.

Because I'm

living on borrowed time.

And leaving her

and leaving the kids,

I know how much it will break them.

So that's why I'm working as hard as I am

to just

-stay alive.

-Not-not leave.

-Not leave.

-(sniffles)

JESSICA:

You walk in here

and you feel the love.

It's vibrating in here.

MORGAN:

Thank you.

-That's the best compliment.

-Yeah.

But, also, this house looks beautiful.

-Thank you.

-I think we need to know,

one, why we're here.

What are the challenges?

And walk us through what you need.

MORGAN:

Mostly, I think, to give

my mom and grandma a little space

that will work for them.

AMBER:

We do love our home. But we would love

-to make it continue to work for us.

-Mm-hmm.

And right now it's not.

-What do you think could use

the most updating or TLC?

-Mm.

Well, we did update the house

when we moved in,

but the one room that we didn't touch

-is our primary bathroom.

-Oh, our primary bathroom. Yeah.

-Oh. That's important.

-Mm. Okay.

-AMBER: Because we thought, like,

no one will really see it

and, like, we'll get to it.

-Right.

-And we-- You don't get to it. (laughs)

-And we never got to it.

-And then we were, like,

kind of used to it.

-Time flies.

-Life happens.

-Right.

-AMBER/MORGAN: Yes.

-It's hard now with challenges.

-AMBER: Yeah.

-MORGAN: And I take

a lot of baths because that just soothes

my body. The pain.

-You know? And trying to hide that

from the kids, you know?

-Hot-- Warm water.

-So water is healing?

-AMBER: Yeah.

-Water is incredible.

It just eases pain in a way that is

-you can't explain until you feel it,

you know?

-LIZZY: Mm.

Well, whatever we can do to help you guys

feel a lot more, like, complete

and-and fulfilled in this home,

please know we are gonna do

everything in our power

-to make it happen.

to build her strength and her hope

so she survives this and they have

I desperately want us

to be able to do that.

-LIZZY: Yeah!

-MORGAN: Really good size.

-JESSICA: So you have your vanity here.

-AMBER: Yeah.

It's a little dated, but

-JESSICA: No, it's great.

LIZZY:

Let's go into the bathroom.

MORGAN:

This is our primary bath,

and it is

probably looks exactly the same

as the day it was built.

-We don't know.

-(laughter)

AMBER:

I feel like the space is good.

-Like, it's big.

-JESSICA: It does have

-a lot of deceiving space.

-But

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-Like, a ton of space.

-Yeah.

-The closets are in here.

-I see the carpet though.

-AMBER: There's our runway.

-Yeah.

-AMBER: So that's our red carpet.

But the closet's in the bathroom.

-MORGAN: Yeah.

-JESSICA: Right.

-LIZZY: How does that work with steam?

-AMBER: That's true.

-MORGAN: We have--

Yeah, we have to keep everything closed

-when we're taking a shower, because

-AMBER: It gets steamy.

-That-that-- Yeah, it gets steamy.

-LIZZY: This tub is so small.

-JESSICA: Tiny.

-AMBER/MORGAN: Yeah.

-I mean, this-this tub must get up

to your sh-- like, um

-MORGAN: Yeah. (laughs)

-your waist or something.

-I mean

-Yeah. So it's not really, like,

a "lean-back soak" kind of tub.

-It's just kind of just Yeah.

-I mean, the feet are Yeah.

(laughs) But believe it or not,

I don't shower hardly anymore.

I use the tub because the soaking in it,

-the water just is so helpful when my

-Mm.

I'm just so achy.

My muscles ache, my bones ache.

When you go into their bedroom

-Yeah.

-you're like, "Oh."

-LIZZY: "Wait a minute, what happened?"

-"This-this doesn't feel connected

-to everything else happening

in the house."

-That's right.

And, I mean, you walk

into that space

and, instantly, you're like, wow,

this needs to feel comforting

-and loving and serene

-Yeah.

-and calm and peaceful.

-Yeah.

-And healing.

-And healing.

MORGAN:

This is

Westin's nursery

-and Amber's office.

-My office.

-JESSICA: Oh, wow. Okay.

That looks

-like real work.

-AMBER: Yeah.

LIZZY:

Yeah. You know what my biggest fear was?

-Wait till he gets tall enough

to just, like, start doing this.

-AMBER: Oh.

-MORGAN: Oh, yeah.

-(laughing)

-LIZZY: The kid in me

just wants to erase the whole thing.

-You're right though. I would

-MORGAN: He's occasionally pulled out,

and just be like (ripping sounds)

This room works great

for a nursery or kids' room.

-it feels like you're jammed

in this corner and trying

-to make the most of something.

So this is our backyard.

JESSICA:

All right, so is there any way

that Lizzy and I can go and just walk

through the house a little bit?

to, like, brainstorm in your house.

With illness,

there's a lot that comes on your plate

that you don't expect.

-Right? Obviously.

-Yeah.

There's a lot of doctor visits,

in and out of the house,

-care that's needed, not only

for the kids, but also for her.

-JESSICA: Yeah.

This is a really great way

for us to be able to give her something

-to take off their plate.

-Yeah.

She needs a bigger bathtub.

-Oh, yeah.

-And if you can't make that happen,

-we're gonna have a problem.

-Yeah.

-Okay? Just so you're clear.

-You know I can make that happen.

and put in two shower heads

and an oversized soaking tub

to give Morgan a little healing spa.

So the boys have plenty of room to play
