How Tag Got Her Tag.
Ah, Saturdays.
So quiet.
Almost too quiet.
Hey, you dogs!
That’s more like it.
I need help.
So you came to your parents
and grandparents.
Smart kid.
Thanks, Grandmaw.
So, we’re doing a show and
tell at Race Cadets today.
And Sam asked us to bring
in something special
that has to do with racing.
And I’m going to talk about
how I got my race flag tag.
That’s a good idea.
That’s wonderful.
I just want to make sure
I have the story straight.
Here it goes.
My name is Tag Barker
and I got this tag from my
big brother Gilber
because he’s the greatest big
brother in the whole wide world.
At least that’s
what Gilber told me.
Uh, I think he was
messing with you, dear.
Nope, you didn’t get that tag
until you were a year old.
Yep, it was the same day
you almost made Sam Whippet
lose his first
championship race.
What?
Huh, I guess we never
told you that story.
Nope, but I have to hear it.
How could a little puppy
make the great Sam Whippet
almost lose a race?
Well, as a puppy,
you were quite a pawful.
All you ever wanted
to do was go.
For the puppy, mashed paw cakes
or mashed paw cakes with syrup?
Go!
Tag’s first word!
Go, go, go!
And her second,
third and fourth.
Wagnes, we’ll come
back another time.
Do you like her hat?
Say yes or no.
Go!
We’ll try this another time.
Huh, left or right?
Go!
Tag, wait up.
Go, go, go!
- She’s over there.
- Nope, that way.
Go! Go!
We should probably
not do this another time.
Agreed.
Go!
Oh, I get it now.
I was such a speedy puppy
that you got me
a race flag tag for my collar.
Actually, your first tag
was a bell.
A bell?
Mm-hmm.
With you running off
all the time,
we were afraid we’d lose you,
so we put a little bell
on your collar.
All right, let’s test it out.
Go!
She’s under the bed.
Go!
She’s on Grandpaw’s head.
Yes, it works!
It’s like a doorbell
for the neck.
The bell helped us
keep track of you,
but you didn’t
slow down one bit.
And then came
your first birthday.
Oh, yeah.
That’s when we got you
those Wagger Wheels toys.
You raced those cars everywhere.
And pretty soon,
"go" wasn’t your only word.
You said words like...
Race!
- And...
- Car!
And...
Hydraulic launch control
manual transmission valve.
That’s when we knew
it was time to take you
to the Pawston Speedway.
And boy, did you love it.

you got to see the hot-shot
new racer, Sam Whippet.
Go, Sam "Dippet", go!
I’m Checkered Wag, here
with Pawston’s own Sam Whippet.
Sam, what’s your

Well, Checkered, it all
comes down to one thing.
My lucky moustache comb.
On race day, I use it
