[Scooter] Who's this guy?
[Daniel, in Spanish] He has the title.
-Whoa!
-[truck door slams]
What are you doing?
-I sold the truck.
-But it's mine, not yours.
No, it's not yours anymore.
I'm waiting for you
to give me a chance to win it back.
No, no. Not on me here.
-Good afternoon. I'm Scooter.
-No. I'm not interested.
This truck is not going anywhere.
It's mine. I have the title.
[in English] He says that truck
doesn't leave here 'cause it's his.
-He has the title.
-So whose truck is it?
-[in Spanish] Whose truck is it?
-Mine.
-[in English] You lost the bet.
-[Scooter, in Spanish] You lost a bet?
-What are you going to take?
-How much more do you have to offer me?
-[in English] How much more do we have?
-No, we're not playing that game.
It's not how much we have.
-It's how much he'll take.
-Exactly.
For that piece of paper that's no good
without the truck we've already bought.
[in Spanish] We're not going
to play games. How much will you take?
-I will take $500.
-$500 and we can take it with us?
Yes, you can take it.
[in English] 500 bucks,
and we're out of here. We can take it.
-And we're done.
-Yes, done.
-We don't have to pay nobody else?
-No, we don't.
We have the title.
The truck's goin' on that truck.
-[in Spanish] If it's a deal, we pay you.
-All right.
-[Scooter] We take the truck. That's it.
-Correct. Yes.
-[in English] Let's get him paid.
-[Scooter] Pay the man.
-That's his 500 bucks.
-[in Spanish] That's your 500 dollars.
-Thanks.
-[Rabbit, in English] You're paid.
And now we've got an extra
hand to load this damn truck up.
[in Spanish] Oh yeah,
we need an extra hand.
Oh, I can't. I have an injury.
-[in English] He's got a bad knee.
-Of course he's got a bum leg.
[Rabbit] Depending where we wanna go,
when we get a build plan together,
this truck will be 30, 40, 50,000 dollars.
So $3,000
for a short-bed first gen C10
is a great deal.
At the end of the day, we still won.
Maybe not quite as good as the original
deal we thought we were gonna get,
but we paid a $500 little tuition fee
to learn a lesson.
Dealin' in the States
and dealin' here in Mexico,
that's two totally different things.

a little more research.
-But we're not tellin' Jaime about it.

There's a lot of work here
because, essentially, we have a cab,
we have a chassis,
and we have four tires. That's about it.
[Rabbit] It may be half a truck,
but it's half a legend.
[Rabbit] The Chevy Apache short-bed truck
took the practicality
of the postwar advanced design series
and merged it with space-age amenities
and body lines.
This pickup followed America's transition
from rural livin' to city livin'
and became a commodity
on the hot-rod scene.
This signature contoured hood
also makes it stand out
from the swarms of pickups at truck meets.
Today, a fully restored

would quickly be snatched up
by its wide fan base.

kinda fill up the wheel well.

Of course. Keep this plan rollin'.

PR just keeps things pushin' forward.

I've lived in the Chicago area
my whole life,
so it's kinda hard

that they're in it for the long haul.

a lotta rust repair.
[Jaime] Is that holes?
Scooter would say, "No bueno."
When I saw this online,
it did not have holes in it.
-[Wes] Where'd you find this?
-[Jaime] Way up in Maine.
They must have photoshopped it
or something.
Someone pulled one over on us.
Normally, I'm very good
with procuring parts--
-Did you get it cheap?
-No, I didn't get it cheap.
A hood like this,
and then shipping from Maine?
-So we're in it pretty deep.
-Yeah, we are.
We've spent way too much time and money
on this truck already.
This is… heartbreaking.
Yeah. It's gonna be hard to make a profit.
The hood for this truck
is about triple than what I expected.
At this point, we're 15 to 20,000 over
where we wanted to be.
I hope Scooter and Rabbit
let me live this down.

my parts and start cuttin' the rust out.

that they're doing what we're doing.

that we're gonna go see, Lucio,

that got picked up.

-[Rabbit] He put a grill…

and find a pot of gold.

made out of the back of a Nissan Sentra.
That was pretty creative, by the way.
[Rabbit] We need to find something
we can make something with, and not lunch.
[Scooter] I see a lotta cars.

There's a lot goin' on here.
This is a Mustang full of chickens.
These are, like, the new
collectible Mustangs, but…
-Do they usually come with chickens?
-[Rabbit] No. No chickens.
That's usually not the kind of chicks
you pick up in a Mustang.
[Scooter] Right.
-What does it say there?
-[Rabbit] Saleen.
Like, the Steve Saleen, you mean?
-[Rabbit] Steve Saleen.
-This could be the real deal?
I mean, this just blows my…
I can't wrap my mind around this.
It's got a Saleen body kit
and stripes on it.
Even if it's just a GT Mustang.
But if it's a Saleen…
I mean, it's just nuts.
That was like the AMG Mercedes
of the Mustangs back then.
[Rabbit] In 1979, Ford took
a controversial departure
from the previous designs
and introduced the Fox Body Mustang.
When many first balked
at the radical redesign,
Steve Saleen saw it
as the game changer it really was.
Steve Saleen is a legendary
former race-car driver
turned automotive designer
and manufacturer.
After winnin' the Sport Car Club
of America Trans Am series
in a Fox Body Mustang,
he formed his own company,
Saleen Auto Sport.
Saleen looked to merge race-car attributes
with street-legal vehicles.
Changes Saleen made included
deck-lid spoilers, side skirts,
tailor-made air dams,
and a reconstructed suspension.
-[siren whoops]
-It also came with a radar detector.
For safety purposes, I'm sure.
With only a few hundred made each year,
Saleen Mustangs have become the holy grail
of classic American sports cars.
And today, a well-restored
authentic Saleen Mustang
can sell for as much as ten times
its stock counterpart.
I don't know where this damn thing
went wrong to end up like this.
We got a guy looking for a Fox Body,
and if it's a Saleen,
it's exponentially more valuable.
I mean, we're possibly
looking at a $70,000 car.
It's not my style.
It's really nice, though.

-So it's saying it's 108.
-108.
-Check that out.
-[Scooter] Oh, 108.
The same as in the plaque.
[Rabbit] I mean, this is a gamble.
A lot of people make fakes
of these things,
and they only made around 200 '86 Saleens.
But if we can authenticate this car
and bring it back to its heyday,
that's a huge win for the shop.
What about the interior, man? The seats?
I see some seats over there.
[Rabbit] It's definitely
the right generation Mustang seat.
Reach in there and pop the hood, too.
We need to check that out.

-Pop that hood. Suck it up.
-[Scooter] Pop the hood.
Oh. It's not there.
They don't have teeth.
They're not gonna bite.
But they're looking at me all mean.
Open the door, Scooter.
They're more scared of you
than you are of them.
[Scooter chuckles] There it is.
-[Rabbit] This is original stuff.
-Pristine.
-I mean, I ain't gonna say pristine.
-[Scooter] Well…
-[Rabbit] It's original.
-Original.
It hasn't been fooled with.
Hell, it's got a motor in it.
-That's a shock in itself.
-Right.
How much should we offer him?
-Ask what he wants for his chicken coop.
-[Scooter] Okay.
[in Spanish] We're interested in the car.
How much do you want for it?
Don't know if I'm selling
because it's where I have my chickens.
I need a box, a cage for the chickens.
[in English] Where is he gonna put
his chickens? He doesn't have anywhere.
Don't question it. You know what?
Tell him we'll give him 3,500 bucks,
and we'll pick him up a chicken coop.
Okay.
[in Spanish] What do you think? $3,500?
And we bring you a chicken coop
so you can put them in there.
-Okay, sounds good.
-[in English] He says yes.
-I like that.
-[Scooter] Shake on it.
When I started sellin' collector cars,
we sold '30s, '40s, and '50s cars.
That was all anybody wanted.
-[Scooter] Hah.
-Now, '80s and '90s cars.
-[Lucio speaking Spanish]
-We'll be right back.
Gracias.
I hope finding a chicken coop
isn't as hard as finding this car.
-We've got a filet mignon on our hands.
-Oh, yes, we do.
There's not many people like us.
They're not willing to go the extra mile
like we do, you know?
A little Starsky and Hutch here.
Cagney and Lacey.
El Chavo del Ocho and Quico.
Tin Tan and Marcelo.
I'll send them to you via text.
[funky music playing]
[Andy] So, today on the '61,
we've got this precut wood to fit the bed.
We're gonna start staining that
to kinda match the pickup.
Let it start soakin' into the wood.
Just gotta make sure
that I've got it on really, really wet.
Look at this wood. God damn.
This sucker got wood.
What's cool about this
is that we'll have stainless-steel strips
that run right through here,
and that'll make it pop.
Now it's time to toast it up.
Darkens the stain,
and it makes the texture in the wood pop.
[Wes] You ready?
Let's get this engine in there.
[Jaime] All right.
-[Wes] It rolls really good.
-[Jaime] Yes, it does.
-It's gonna have to be jacked up more.
-[Wes] Yeah.
-Get your workout in.
-[Jaime] Yeah.
[Wes] This should be good. Let's see
if we can get over the core support.
Right through the firewall.
Come on down. A little more.
Layin' down on the job.
There you go. That was perfect.
[Jaime] I know the parts are expensive,
but it is so good
to see this thing comin' together
after what a piece of junk this thing was.
-Come a long ways.
-Yeah.
Rabbit's gonna have a stroke
when he finds out
how much money we got into this thing.
[sighs] Parts cost money.
So now it's gonna take pure talent
for him to sell this.
You know, he's gonna have to aim high,
'cause we need to make
a good profit on this thing.
-It'll be one of his shining moments.
-[chuckles] Yeah.
I pride myself on being prudent
with the shop's expenses,
but it has spiraled a bit.
Right now we're about 40K into this truck,
which is a little bit more
than what we wanted to do.
But you get what you pay for.
Plain and simple.
[Jaime] All right. It's in. Looks good.
[Wes] Let's see
if those bed panels came in yet.
[country music playing]
-[clucking]
-[Scooter] The chicken Hilton.
Do this, Rabbito. Let's do this.
You know, I've done some weird stuff
on some deals. I have never…
-[Scooter] I have never, never…
-…built a chicken coop for a car.
You can add chicken coops to your résumé.
Expertise in building chicken coops.
Oh! Ay güey.
Brand-new chicken coop.
-Not brand-new, but, you know.
-[Rabbit] New to him.
[in Spanish] Here it is.
What do you think?
[Lucio] That's it. I like it.
-For the chickens.
-[Lucio] Obviously, you take out the hens.
[in English] We need
to help him with the chickens.
-That's your department.
-No, that's our department.
[Rabbit] Definitely in the top three
weirdest deals I've ever done.

[Andy] Whoo!
[Wes] This was really a chicken coop?
-[Scooter] Oh yeah.
-A real chicken coop.
I got a question.
-How do you know if it's a real Saleen?
-We need to authenticate it.
-It's got all the right Saleen markings.
-[Jaime] Great.
[Rabbit] All my experience is telling me
it's a legit Saleen,
but the only way to be positive
is to have the man himself,
Steve Saleen, authenticate it.
Yes, sir.
Let me show you something,
my mechanical missus.
This is the best part.
-[Scooter] Oh, look at that!
-[Rabbit] Look how pristine this car is.
-[Scooter] Everything's original.
-This thing is bone stock.
-Granted, it ran a day or two.
-Mm-hmm. Yeah.
-But everything is there.
-It is.
Where's the hatch and seats?
[both] It's in the back of the truck.
So what are we, uh, thinkin'
we should do to this, guys?
They all came factory Ford colors.
Well, there's no other way.
It's gotta go back to original?
I think that's the only way.
[Jaime] All right, gotta get rid
of the chicken stuff.
-Replace the windows.
-[clucking]
[Jaime] Restore the original color.
We're going back in black.
[Andy] Add the signature Saleen stripes,
making it look
like it rolled off the line.
[Lucky] If you have the original seats,
that'll make my job a whole lot easier.
This interior is gonna be
a time capsule from the '80s.
[Wes] The original wiring
and engine looks good,
but I'll need to get it in
and quality check everything,
to make sure it's up to Steve's standards.
The guy that's gonna buy this
is the guy that wanted it in high school
and couldn't get it, and now he can.
-What did we end up paying for this?
-[Scooter] Tell 'em.
-3,500 bucks and a chicken coop.
-[Scooter] And a chicken coop!
-[clucking]
-[Andy] Ker-ching!
Well, hold that thought,
because we still have to authenticate it.
This has to be a quick flip,
we have to keep it original,
we need as much money as we possibly can
because we're, like, 40, 45,000
into the Apache at this point.
[Scooter whistles] Damn.
-I thought we were gonna sell this for 55.
-[Scooter] Yeah.
You know, I ordered a bunch of stuff
and the original parts
cost way more than expected.
And we couldn't skip on the V8.
It just added up.
You're gonna have to sell this
for more than we discussed.
-Why…
-Prepare for recovery.
You're not makin'
the salesman's job easier.
The truck's gonna end up bein' nice.
[Rabbit] Think about it. Jaime's not used
to running a shop like this,
and it's really easy to run over budget
when you're restoring these cars.
But I'm gonna try my damnedest
to get us top dollar for this thing
and get us out of the hole.
All right,
so we're going to put this one on pause.
We need all hands on deck on the Apache
so you guys can sell it.
[Andy] All right.
Sounds like we got our work
cut out for us, buddy.
I wanna go see where all this money went.
I guess I'll vacuum it…
but that's my decision.
-[Wes] Ready?
-[Jaime] Yep.
Typically, when we get cars in,
we're not missin' half the body panels.
We're learnin' the hard way
that it's twice as expensive
than restorin' one
that's a complete car when it arrives.
Bein' a '61 Apache,
the original body panels
are pretty tough to find.
Luckily, we were able to find
all the original panels
to get this thing back together.
-Is that one gonna line up?
-[Jaime] Quarter inch off over here.
-[click]
-There we go. I got it.
[Wes] Fenders are in.
Let's see what we remember from wood shop.
I'm gonna lift it up.
Let's try to slide this one out.
-Ready?
-[Jaime] Yep.
[Jaime] These stainless rails
are a nice touch.
It's taken a lot of work,
but it looks like a truck.
[Jaime] I've decided to upgrade
the Apache's cluster.
Part of the problem is the truck only had
a temperature gauge and a gas gauge
and the vehicle speedo.
We're gonna go digital with this gauge
and make it a lot easier
and user friendly.
[Andy] These are the bluffs
behind the shop that I'm painting here.
I'm gettin' more into canvas art
on the side,
and that inspiration
is startin' to crawl over and cross over
into the automotive world.
I found myself not wanting
to just use an airbrush.
I started wantin' to hand-paint things.
And as an artist, it's up to me
to duplicate the world around us.
A lot of times,
these very small last-minute details
is what really makes the final sale,
and that's what I'm after.
[Wes] It's a race. Go!
[Jaime] Awesome. This baby is done.
