Even if you just caught

the guy you were seeing

with another woman at a very public party

for the entire town to see.

And so it goes with Abby.

So what ♪

[dog barking]

We got our heads in the clouds ♪

ABBY: I know people question

why I go back to Trevor.

I don't know, but I've seen

a different side of him

than most people have.

And he truly does have a good heart.

He just gets a little lost sometimes.

How long have you had her?

- A few years now.

She's a Hurricane Sally dog.

- Really?

- Yeah.

- Little displaced?

[chuckles]

- Yeah, I was driving around

after the storm passed

and she was kind of walking around,

didn't have a collar on, and--

- Yeah?

- pulled over, she came right to me.

Couldn't find her owner,

so she kind of hung around

for a little bit, then stayed.

- It's like you to take in strays.

- Yeah, I know.

[chuckling]

[water splashing]

ABBY:

Yeah, so, um,

Magnolia Ball.

- Yeah.

- Um,

saw you had a date.

- Yeah.

[Abby chuckles]

Bayou, come here.

- Are y'all, like seeing each other?

- No just friends.

- Like, how we're friends?

- Uh,

[Abby laughing]

whatever that means.

Yeah, just friends.

- Interesting.

[Bayou panting]

Not that it's my business, but--

- What?

- Who you date.

[Trevor chuckles slightly]

- I didn't think it's that big a deal.

- It's not.

- You can ask me whatever,

but I mean, yeah, just a friend.

- Yeah.

Yeah.

[Bayou panting]

TREVOR:

You got plans tonight?

- Um, [sighs] no, I don't.

- You gonna come over

and hang out for a little bit tonight?

playful music playing ♪

[Bayou barking]

ABBY:

Uh sure, friend.

- [sighs deeply]

Okay. Sounds good, buddy.

♪

- Ol' pal.

[Trevor laughing]

[Abby chuckles]

You know,

Trevor's one of those guys that,

you know, they like to breadcrumb ya.

TREVOR: Yeah, you can come over

and give Bayou a bath.

ABBY:

Okay. [laughs]

And you know, I'm, I'm a dumb fish.

I'm gonna [chuckles]

get caught on that hook every time.

NARRATOR:

We've all been there.

Caught back on the same hook

because we're hopeful.

Hopeful that things will be different,

that people will be different.

But when does a chance turn from hopeful

to hopeless?

When does a second chance

become a last chance?

Back, back seat riders

need some back seats ♪

Next car over tryna race me ♪

- Hey ♪

- But I'm tryna keep it low speed ♪

- Ooh ♪

- Steadily coasting, coasting ♪

NARRATOR: Unlike most Fairhopians,

Mya Jo isn't typically one

to give second chances.

FAITH: No. Just keep going.

Three, two, one, right now.

MYA JO: We're here?

- Yep Okay.

- Okay.

Oh, my God, am I in gravel?

[Faith chuckles]

I would not have worn these heels.

NARRATOR: But now that she's turning over

a new, more mature leaf--

- God, Faith, I'm so scared.

NARRATOR: she might

just surprise herself.

- I have you, don't you worry.

- Oh, my gosh. Faith!

- Three, two, one.

We stay in motion, woo ♪

PARTY GUESTS:

Surprise!

[group cheering]

[cheering continues]

- Happy birthday!

NICK:

[people cheering]

- Right on time ♪

- What the clock say? ♪

- Right on time ♪

- What's your ETA? ♪

[vocalizing]

MYA JO: So, did you and Baylee

have fun at the Magnolia Ball?

- Maybe.

- Maybe?

- [chuckles] Maybe somethin' like that.

- Shouldn't you know?

[people chattering]

[insects chirring]

- No.

So, I hope you've been

havin' a good time tonight.

- It was fun!

I'm having so much fun.

This is, like, crazy.

I wasn't expecting--

I've never had

a surprise party ever in my life.

- Really?

- Never.

- Yeah. It was crazy.

I invited a whole bunch of people.

Um--

- Yeah.

- didn't think it was gonna

be this great of a turnout.

- Dude, it was amazing. Like, right on.

- Mm-hm.

upbeat music playing ♪

Well, I got you somethin'.

[Mya Jo gasps]

Oh! I was gonna light it,

but if you want to.

I know that it's somethin' that

we've been doin' for a few years, so.

- I know!

Thought you forgot,

you haven't given it to me yet.

- I know.

- Thank you.

- Did you make a wish?

- I made a wish.

For this to be the best summer ever.

- I'd hope so.

- Mm.

- You bein', like,

back in town after college.

- Mm-hm.

- So, I was thinkin' about maybe

doin', like, a bonfire here soon.

- Really?

- Um, yeah, at the house.

You gotta help me set it up, though.

- Well of course.

You know, I'm the planner.

[ice stirring, rattling]

- Yeah.

It was, uh, it was different

not havin' you around bein' the planner.

- Yeah. Well, I'm back.

We'll see how far along.

[people chattering]

So where's Baylee?

- She's, uh, she's at home

studying, you know?

- So you invited everyone but her?

Isn't that weird?

- No. Um, I did invite her.

Uh, she just--

- She didn't wanna come?

- No, she just couldn't make it,

so it's whatever.

Um--

- Okay. That's good.

- She actually asked

about you on the phone.

- Did she?

- Mm-hm.

But I think I'm happy.

light music playing ♪

Anyways, this is about you.

Tonight's about you.

This is your 21st birthday.

Like, we've been waiting--

- I know!

- for this since we were 16.

- I know. I'm so excited!

Twenty-one! Twenty-one!

- This one's special.

upbeat music playing ♪

NARRATOR: Now when talking

about second chances in Fairhope,

we should talk about someone

who took a big chance on herself,

Olivia.

Ever since she was a little girl,

Olivia dreamed of starting a big family

and making her mom proud

to carry on the family legacy.

Olivia comes from Fairhopian royalty.

A big real estate dynasty.

As such, she was expected

to marry well and keep it classy.

But after years of heartbreak

and no luck finding the right person,

Olivia decided to have

kids all on her own.

- I'm going slow.

I'm tryna let you catch up. [chuckles]

TORI:

Here we go.

OLIVIA:

You're doin' good, though.

NARRATOR: And then a chance

encounter with a childhood classmate

led her to giving love a second shot

after thinking she was totally done.

- You don't wanna come up here?

- We'll see.

Nope.

- You not sure about Tori?

Me either. [laughs]

- I think I'm all right.

- You'll do. [chuckles]

- Thanks for havin' me.

- Yeah, I know.

I'm glad we got to do this. This is fun.

- So, what do you do outside of this?

- Um, I do work a lot, but, um,

then the kids keep me goin' too.

- Oh yeah, that's right.

You have two.

- They're not babies anymore.

- I know, it's been

a while since I've seen 'em.

- Seven and eight.

About to be nine.

- Nine?

- Yeah. Mm-hm.

- Do you ever make time for anything else?

- Depends.

There's always room for fun.

♪

What about you?

- Just work.

- That's all you do?

- Detailin' cars. That's it.

- No fun or anything?

- No.

Keeps me outta trouble.

- [laughs] Out of trouble?

Are you trouble?

- No, I'm not trouble.

- We'll see.

♪

- I can't believe after

all this time we reconnected.

- I know.

- I've always, you know,

wanted to, but--

- Really?

I didn't even think you wanted

to be my friend at one point

because I was, like-- [chuckles]

Every time I saw you,

you just had this very

serious look on your face.

You just looked like

you meant business,

and you were busy, and needed

everyone to get outta your way.

- Sounds about right.

- I was like, [softly] "Hey."

[Olivia giggling]

- No, I just--

I think I just, you know,

didn't wanna even try

because didn't think I had a chance.

- I'm not that bad.

I'm not that scary.

- No, not anymore.

- Good.

Who would've thought?

[slight chuckle]

- Yeah, uh, like the pants.

Think I'm gonna get the pants.

- Yeah.

- I'm gonna go get out of 'em.

- Do you need help?

- [chuckles] No.

- Okay.

NARRATOR: For every

two people leaping right back in,

there's a couple

slowly preparing to back out

because you don't get infinite chances.

Even in Fairhope.

Even when you have faith.

KENDELL:

Would you like somethin' to drink?

LASHOUNDRA:

Sure, sweet tea.

- No problem.

- Thank you.

Kendell and I had a traditional marriage.

I stayed at home.

I took care of Kaden.

I cleaned.

I even cooked a little.

Kendell worked and he worked a lot.

But most of all,

he took care of the finances.

But it all came crashin' down

when Kendell mismanaged our money,

and the foundation

of the trust was broken.

[door clicks and squeaks]

Thank you.

- You're welcome.

[Kendell sighs]

- I got your text message.

"Kaden and girls."

- Yeah, uh, that was--

[Lashoundra giggling]

I wasn't ready for that, but, uh--

- I'm not ready for it.

- We talked, and, uh--

- Mm-hm.

- he said he, uh,

he didn't like her, but, uh--

LASHOUNDRA: He like that little girl.

- Yeah, he do.

- Welcome to sixth grade.

- Yeah, yeah.

- So, um, this has been on my mind,

and I did a lot of reflecting,

a lot of thinking,

and I know we talk about,

you know, forgiveness,

but I don't, I don't think I have, um,

fully let go of the past.

- It's har--

Y-You'll never forget stuff that, that,

that hurt you

or that had been experienced,

but the mistakes, the issues,

bad financial decisions, losses,

all of that,

you can't continue to bring it up

'cause if you do, it's like, it's like

scratchin' the scab off of a sore.

- But I felt not safe.

and not knowin' our house

was bein' foreclosed.

This won't make a difference ♪

I didn't feel safe because

the lights aren't on,

the water isn't on.

[Kendell exhales sharply]

And honestly,

- I've, I've tried to protect you

because that's how much I, I love you.

- You have the ability

to make something sound so good.

Yet I sit here and struggle

with the beautiful words

that you've just expressed to me.

There is this battle in my mind.

It's this cycle of the same

heartache, the same pain,

and I'm tired of that.

- Lashoundra, people

make bad decisions all the time.

- Mm-hm.

KENDELL:

Just Getting Started

When Mya Jo and Nick were in high school,

they were part of this

group called "Saturdays."

Saturdays was, technically, for the guys,

but girls who could hang

like bros were included too.

I'm all in to take it to the heart ♪

When it comes to Saturdays and every days,

there's no chance new friends

are making it in this group.

Especially girlfriends.

- Like, it's so hard to get together

'cause no one's schedules coincide.

- Right.

- That's how it was with this, though,

just even gettin' this together.

NICK: It's a lot different than

it was in high school, I guess.

- Exactly.

- Dude, 'cause we were all, like-- lived

in, like, within a mile of each other.

- Right, but I'm proud of us

for being able to pull this together.

- We'll always be close, we're family.

MEREDITH: Exactly.

- For real.

MEREDITH:

You always find a way home.

MYA JO: That's what I was tellin'

Nick and Kai earlier. I was like,

I bet every one of our friends

will raise our kids here,

and all our kids will raise up together.

- Oh, yeah.

- I believe it.

- Hi. [giggles]

MYA JO: Hello.

- Hey. How you been?

- Good. How are y'all?

- You wanna sit right here?

I can get a chair.

BAYLEE: Yeah. Hi.

- Hey, girl.

- Good seeing you.

MYA JO: Introduce her.

- Yeah, this is Baylee.

MEREDITH: Hi.

NICK: This is Kai, Meredith.

- Nice to meet you.

- Hi.

BAYLEE: Nice to meet you.

What's your name?

- Meredith.

- Meredith, Baylee.

MEREDITH: Nice to meet you.

- Nice to meet you.

- Hello. I'm glad you made it.

- Thank you. Thank you.

Oh, sh**t.

- Your shirt, you're good.

[Baylee giggles]

Just wanna help ya out.

[Kai chuckles]

- Thank you. Didn't even see.

[chair scraping]

[laughing]

You got the heaviest one.

MYA JO: We'll wait for you.

NICK: Everybody's here now?

- Yeah.

- Have you seen Jacob's brother?

- He's too cool for school now.

- He's gonna be a freshman next year.

MYA JO:

Dude.

- Are these all people

that y'all went to school with?

- No, that's, uh, Nick's family.

- Um, just my family.

It's, like, my, my dad's

side of the family.

It's a whole bunch of 'em.

- Do you know the whole fam?

- Yeah.

[Baylee giggles]

We're all-- We've had events,

like, at their house, so we've all--

- "Events." [laughs]

MYA JO: Really! No, we had parties.

KAI:

We had events.

MYA JO:

Danielle wouldn't like us callin' it that.

- Um--

- But we've all been, like,

family since, like, fourth grade.

NICK: Mm.

- Aww.

[indistinct chatter]

- I'ma go introduce her to a few people,

but we'll be back.

- It was good meeting y'all.

MYA JO: Okay, bye.

- Nice meeting you.

- All right, guys.

MEREDITH: See you around.

See you around.

- Did he hide her from you too?

Or was it just me?

KAI: Yes.

This is my first time

meeting her, actually.

- Yeah, that's shocking.

That's actually really shocking.

- Sip my tea.

MEREDITH: Yeah.

- And then I spill it.

[both chuckle]

People always get confused

why I'm so picky with the women

he dates and if I'm jealous,

it's not true.

I simply wanna protect his heart.

NARRATOR: Sure, Mya Jo.

You just keep telling yourself that.

Moving on to Abby down the street

who's also lying to herself.

BRONSON [on microphone]:

- It, it was a lot of fun.

Um, it kinda ended weird.

[sputters]

- Really?

- Yeah.

I mean, I know-- Yeah, I feel like

I have so much to catch you up on.

When you mentioned Trevor being single,

I, um went--

- Wait.

- I, obviously, wasn't trying

to, like, get on that train again,

but, um, here we are.

[slight chuckle]

[Abby chuckles]

- Wait.

Are you telling me y'all

are back on the train? [laughs]

- I'm at the station. [laughing]

Might get on, might not.

- I feel like it's

a repeated cycle with him.

- It is.

- Yeah.

- He cooked me dinner

the other night and it was nice.

We just got to, you know, catch-ups.

- Yeah.

- Then, um,

the next time I saw him was at The Ball,

and, um, he, like, walks in

hand-in-hand with another girl.

And I just--

- Wait. After?

- Yeah.

I mean, he said he wasn't seeing anybody,

but you walk in holding a hand?

- Have you talked to him about it?

- He just said they were "just friends."

- "Hands-in-hand friend," see?

- That's what I said, I was like,

"Friends like we're friends?"

I don't know, it's just Trevor.

- Well, let's not forget.

[chuckles]

Trevor does have his options wide open,

and I've seen it many of times in here.
