see any of those.

of a disconnect there

The essence of our argument

correct me if
I'm wrong at any point,
but I feel like you were telling
me who you were
through your lens.
I had questions about that
because you,
from my point of view,
tend to put a lot of labels
on yourself.
And from my perspective,
they don't actually describe
your character as a person.

I'm an intersectional
q*eer person of colour
who identifies as pansexual
and grey sexual.

of identity
of being able to use labels to

Why is that?

a lack of identity,
and that came from childhood.
I didn't grow up with my family.
My mother was a drug addict
who didn't want me.
And my father,
I don't know who he is.
Because of that, I was in
the system as a baby.

And then I was in foster care
and I went through family
to family to family.

I grew up in a white, systematic
society where I was treated
differently
and I didn't know why
because I didn't know
I was black.
I didn't know I was mixed.
I thought I was like
everybody else,
but I wasn't
treated that way.
I was never accepted
by the African community
because I didn't have
the culture.
I didn't know anything
about that.
White people didn't accept me
because to them
I don't look white.
I'm not white.
So I was by myself.
I had this big hole in my life
of a lack of identity,
of not knowing who I was
and how I was.
And then I learnt about
my sexuality and who I am
and everything I represent,
and that's why I'm so strong
about that.
Right.
And that's why I have labels,
so I have an identity,
so I know who I am.
At first it was a bit daunting,
like, hearing
the amount of labels at first
and like,
it was a bit overwhelming.
But now that we've
got to this point,
I completely understand.
Her upbringing and her identity
issues growing up
have definitely led to this,
like, identity discovery.
So, it's important for me
that I support her
through all of that.
