Aren't you going to go?
Ain't it today?
I'm taking some time off. Tell Roy for me.
CHARLIE DISAPPEARS
POLICE FAIL TO CATCH FEYERABEND
"Fear no more the heat o' the sun,
nor the furious winter's rages.
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
home art gone, and ta'en thy wages.
Golden lads and girls all must,
as chimney-sweepers,
come to dust."
No priest, no sermon.
Such a rational service.
Most of the people here are
colleagues of the Steins.
Seems they never had much to do
with the local community.
The police arrested two men
who lived nearby.
Both of 'em were at the Steins'
that night we dropped by.
And both admitted to arson,
but denied murdering anyone.
They doused the place in gasoline,
for Chrissake.
I know. But it seems like they may really
be telling the truth about the m*rder.
According to the official autopsy,
their throats were cut with a sharp blade
shortly before the fire broke out.
There were no signs of a struggle.
It was probably over in an instant.
Not the kind of trick a mechanic
and a cashier can usually pull off.
The ALA, then?
Certainly seems that way.
Based on Lucy Eldred's testimony,
Major Lippman
and the other ALA members we caught
all have an alibi
for the time of the murders.
As does Feyerabend.
There're others?
Most likely.
So there's more of these c*ck
crawling out of the woodwork?
What about Charlie?
We've got the state police tailing Lucy.
Though I doubt he's just going to
stroll back into town to see his buddy.
Well, just in case.
Anyway, the local cops are
searching the mountains.
I'm sure they'll catch him
sooner or later.
And then, we'll handle Charlie
one way or another.
This is truer than principles
Discovered by geniuses like XY
You are so captivating
That I can't take my eyes off you
We are merely beings who are just living
But we are beings unlike any other
You make me wonder
Actors caught in a drama
Unaware of the ending
Our "relationship chart" is still blank
And it bothers me
We only want to share laughter
Yet somehow end up hurting each other
It wasn't supposed to be like this
I wonder what principles or clues
Apply to our relationship
A stereo yearning to blend
Like left and right
Could it be love?
I don't know
Are we at odds?
I don't think so
It's a frustrating thing
And I can't even tell if it's real
Just how deep is our relationship?
Why can't it be measured?
I want to know you
I want you to know me
And what's the level of expectation
When we get to know each other?
I know nothing else but the long-sought
Love, and I want to seek it out
You make me wonder
Just beyond words
You make me wonder
EPISODE 11
TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP
Ten days on from the second tragedy
to shake Shrewsville,
a team of two thousand police are
continuing the manhunt
for the ALA's Rivera Feyerabend, but the
fugitive's whereabouts are still unknown.
Charlie, the figure at the center
of it all, remains missing.
And thanks to various private rewards
being offered for the Humanzee's capture,
people from within and out of Missouri
are descending on this little town.
At a press conference, the sheriff stated
that the Humanzee is dangerous
and should not be approached.
Anyone who finds him
should call 911 immediately.
Hey, watch it, pal.
Not so fast.
Where do ya think you're goin'?
Hey. Aren't you his buddy?
You gotta pay for that.
sh*t.
- Wha-- Hey!
Charlie… Where are you?
Charlie! Are you there? Answer me!
If you're there, listen.
If I'd just figured it out sooner…
your mom and dad would…
No.
They both…
They both loved you…
Really loved you.
I know.
I loved them too.
I wish I could've protected them.
Charlie.
Lucy.
If you're not gonna eat that,
can I have it?
It's from Dr. Fowler.
Why is he calling?
Dunno.
Lucy.
Thanks for coming all this way.
No prob.
I was so sorry to hear…
Who's that?
That's my ride.
I'm Lucy's Uncle Philip.
Pleased to meet you.
I'm Dr. Fowler, head of the institute.
Right this way.
Professor Stein lost
both parents at a young age.
And Hannah said she'd been estranged
from her parents for quite some time.
So, even if they find Charlie,
he's got no family to take him in?
We've managed to contact a few relatives,
but none of them seem to
want to get involved.
Oh…
What about Eva?
Yes, she's here of course,
but today might not be
the best day for a visit.
Eva hasn't been doing too well lately.
She is quite old after all.
Yeah…
The representative should be here
any minute now.
Representative Linares.
I'm glad you're here.
Let's move to the conference r…
Are you Lucy?
My apologies, Lucy,
but if your uncle could…
But…
- It doesn't matter.
I've got a plane to catch.
Let's keep this short.
Up till now, Charlie's legal status
has been a delicate balancing act.
Now that his "owners,"
the Steins are gone,
his position has become
extremely precarious.
Mrs. Stein told me
that Charlie was legally a "thing," but…
That's right.
And now he's unowned property.
He'll probably be handled
on the same basis as a wild animal.
So if Charlie is caught
by a public agency,
he'll become property of the federal
government or the state of Missouri.
Regrettably, when Charlie fled,
he injured a police officer.
If they determine him to be dangerous,
he'll be put down.
But even if it doesn't come to that,
he'll probably never be free again.
Regardless of whether the remaining
t*rrorists are caught or not.
He has no rights at all that might
protect him from the authorities.
We've enlisted people
from our non-profit to search for Charlie,
but it's highly likely
the police will find him first.
And if that happens,
I can't imagine he'll come quietly.
The worst-case scenario is
entirely possible.
And that's where you come in, Lucy.
We need your help.
Do you have any idea
where Charlie might be?
Or any way to contact him?
I'm not sure…
He hasn't been answering his phone.
If you manage to find Charlie first,
what are you going to do?
We'll keep him safe
and immediately declare ownership.
Because he's in this legal gray area,
the state government won't
easily be able to override us.
But…
if the authorities use real force
to try and do something about Charlie,
I can't imagine they'll care too much
about abiding by the law.
Am I wrong?
You're absolutely right.
The law can be broken
by force at any time.
But at least for the moment,
this isn't some kind of "survival of
the fittest" apocalypse scenario.
The law holds up
until the very last second.
Remember this, Lucy.
When you're actually faced with certain
kinds of violence and oppression,
even your human rights aren't
always guaranteed.
That's why the law needs to be
your first line of defense
and your final stronghold.
But that's a discussion
for further down the line.
Right now,
we need to make sure Charlie's safe,
and find him new foster parents.
Find him new… foster parents?
Of course. He needs a better environment.
We've narrowed it down
to a few potential couples.
What the hell?
Your solution is to just switch out
the Steins for different people?
That's supposed to be better for Charlie?
Are you kidding me?
Lucy, please.
Settle down.
It's the best option we have right now--
The best option? Don't you get it?
Charlie's parents were k*lled
and he got a g*n pointed at him!
Hordes of people are after him!
Do you really think
he's ever going to trust humans again?
Charlie.
Charlie?
Hey.
Sorry, were those clothes too big?
- It's fine.
What do you think? Can I pass for human?
Sure, from a distance, maybe?
I met that congresswoman.
What did she say?
That she's gonna find you a new family.
I got pissed and flipped out on her.
Sorry.
What she's saying makes sense,
and she doesn't seem
like a bad person, but…
Anyway, you can't
stay hidden here forever.
What should we do?
Lucy. You don't need to keep coming.
I've got my strength back,
and the police are busy
combing the mountains,
so I think I can find
an opening to get away.
Get away? But where will you go?
You don't mean to the ALA?
To The Stollard Institute.
The Stollard Institute?
Where Dr. Grossman worked?
Yeah. It's still there, I checked.
I've been trying to decide what to do,
and I thought I'd go look for him.
He's my biological father.
And the only person
who really knows what I am.
But that's impossible.
It's in California, right?
You'd need to cross half the country.
I think for now we just have to rely
on that representative.
Nope. To her, I'm just a means to an end.
But…
Charlie?
You were following me, Phil?
Other way around. I was getting in the way
of the ones following you.
Figured if you were here,
Charlie wouldn't be far away.
Wait.
That day, when I spoke to Bert
for the last time,
you know what he told me?
He said he still had faith in humanity.
Come on home with me, Charlie.
A checkpoint?
It's fine. Once we get through here,
we're home free.
Don't make a peep, Charlie.
- 'Kay.
Come on home with me, Charlie.
You mean
you'll hide Charlie in your house?
Like Anne Frank?
Don't have a secret room, and I live
smack in the middle of a residential area.
Word'll get out soon.
- Then what?
I can adopt Charlie.
That way he won't need to hide
or leave Shrews.
Hold on a sec. That's impossible.
I mean, your cop buddies are
busting their asses to find him.
I don't know much about the law
beyond what I need to do my job,
but right now, I'm off duty.
If Charlie's a "thing"
and I take him home,
then he becomes my personal property.
Finders keepers.
But can you really just decide
that on your own?
It's just me and the missus.
We already talked about it.
The rest is up to you. Well?
Okay, Phil. What do we need to do?
Thank you.
No problem. We okay to move along?
Well, mind if we just take a look
in the trunk?
Be my guest.
Logan. That is you, ain't it?
Phil? Well, I'll be.
Haven't seen you in ages.
Not since that golf tournament, must be.
How's Grace?
She's doing fine.
I'll bet.
Only posts on Instagram every single day.
Crazy though, huh?
Sleepy little town like this, all shook up
with t*rrorists and monkey-men and such.
Who's the girl?
Just a hoodlum I found cutting school.
Gotta drop her off before I head home.
If I don't get back soon,
Grace is gonna let me have it.
Off duty and still working? Sheesh.
Hey, let these folks through.
Be quick about it.
This fella's a deputy sheriff.
Yes, sir.
Not far now.
"Hoodlum," huh?
Kinda old-fashioned, don't ya think?
Can it, kid.
Right, we need to lay some groundwork
before folks find out what's going on.
Lucy, think you can
get in contact with Linares?
I could ask Dr. Fowler, I guess…
But…
I don't much like politicians either.
But being a rep, she's real powerful.
If she's gonna use Charlie,
don't see why we shouldn't use her too.
That's probably what
Bert and Hannah were doing.
Get inside, quick. You stand out.
Grace, we're back.
Grace?
Grace-- Hey, what're you doing?
What's it look like I'm doing?
The bulb's burned out.
Fix it later. Charlie and Lucy are here.
That's why. You want the hallway
to be all dark the first time they visit?
What kind of welcome would that be?
All right, all right.
But let me do it later on.
There we go.
Watch--
Grace. Are you okay?
Oh, my. Oh, my, oh, my. Well, well, well…
You must be Charlie.
And aren't you
just so much cuter than on TV?
This is my wife, Grace.
You are a bit fragrant though.
He's been in hiding all this time.
Think he could maybe use the shower?
And you're Lucy. You're awful cute too.
Lovely to meet you.
Phil. Show Charlie to the bathroom.
C'mon this way, Lucy.
- Let's go.
Food's already on the table.
Wait.
Listen, Charlie.
Now this might not be what you wanna hear,
but every home's got rules
that need to be followed. Understand?
Sure.
And the rule in this home…
Is that you always sit when you pee.
Don't want it spattering everywhere.
You know how many years
it took me to get Phil in line?
These Missouri men, they all think
standing up to pee is more manly.
Standing up to pee is
toxic masculinity in a nutshell.
The feminists oughta be
making an issue of it.
This way. C'mon.
Today must've been tiring.
Get some sleep. Sweet dreams.
Oh, good morning, Charlie.
Did you sleep well?
Yeah.
The people?
There's a lot of them.
Sure is.
Breaking news.
We're getting reports that
the Humanzee Charlie has been apprehended.
He's apparently in protective custody
at the home
of the local deputy sheriff at present…
Well, this is going to bother
the neighbors.
I can't even go shopping.
But you know, it's kinda exciting.
Like we're celebrities or something.
Oh, my. Weren't you on vacation?
Not anymore.
All right. Take care.
I will.
You might be the one I'm searching for
Make this moment last forevermore
Starting my day just the same as always
Even when night ends
And then the dawn finds its way
Hey, that's why I rush back into the flow
Facing all these
Super crazy hectic days I know
Singing while it's stabbing my brain
Just like filling up the holes remained
I'll keep on breaking through
Without stopping
Even if insane
Are you sure?
I know it's boring, right?
I pray softly
Even if I live how I want, I'm lonely
Stacking fragile things
That will fade someday
Just same as you
I am also just lonely, fall away
Turn It Up!
There's no way I can stop now
Turn It Up!
Let it sway with a gentle sound
Turn It Up!
Every thought I have of you
Turn It Up!
Riding straight to happiness too
