you've ever been to?"

And it was unanimous.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
in Weston West Virginia.

I brought a friend,
and a collaborator

to get haunted with me.

Hey, boo! What's going on?

What did I let you get me into?

I'm nervous and I'm trembling.

[Kesha] Greeting, earthlings.
Kesha here.

When I'm not on stage,

I'm exploring my connection
to the supernatural.

This is my twisted journey
into the heart of darkness.

I'm surrounding myself
with top paranormal experts.

I heard a growl, I heard it.

[Kesha] And I'm bringing
along my friends,

for the whole terrifying trip.

There's a spirit here?

go way back.

We played shows together,
we collaborated together.

We have matching hand tattoos.

She's just one of my
ride or dies in this life.

But she's not a total believer,

which is surprising to me.

I just have a feeling,

your world's about to change.

[Kesha] Since it opened in 1864,

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic
Asylum seemed fated

as a paranormal epicenter.

Its purpose was to house
and treat the mentally ill.

But these halls eventually
became a dumping ground...

for hardened
criminals, drug addicts,

and outcasts of society.

The state even had single women,

widows, and LGBTQ+ members

committed for so called crimes.

Ranging from menopause,
to masturbation, to PMS.

By 1950, the asylum
was overflowing

with over 2,400 inhabitants.

Doctors conducted
gruesome experiments

from bloodletting,

and different forms
of shock therapy

to full frontal lobotomy,

leaving patients in comas,
paralyzed, brain dead,

or worse.

m*rder, drug overdose,
and suicide became rampant.

The state closed
Trans-Allegheny only in 1994.

But over a century
of trauma and t*rture

remains locked
in these corridors,

spurring some of the most
intense paranormal activity

in the world.

is the paranormal theory

connected to this location.

Basically, the
stone tape theory.

The stone that this
building is built out of

acts as a tape recorder.

So basically, we're taking you

where people can be themselves.

Celebrated.

And this location is
the antithesis of that.

So, it's just scary
on every level.

Even before you introduce
the paranormal activity.

This is huge.

I could definitely
see, in a different time,

me ending up in this place.

And that's scary.

for keeping it alive and well?

educating people.

Making sure that
we remind people,

why these places
can't continue to exist.

The stigma of being different

has to go away.

Why do you think
this place is haunted?

A lot of the people
that are here,

have nowhere else to go.

This was the place that
they felt like they were home.

So, I think a lot of
those spirits are here,

because this is
where they fit in.

I think some others
just don't know exactly

where else to go.

Do you have any
personal experiences here,

that are paranormal?

Oh, absolutely.

shadow figures, go

I've had my shoulders
