01x29 - Orla and the Poké Ball Smith (Orio and the Monster Ball Craftsman)

Post by bunniefuu »

We thought an old friend of
Grandma's could give us info

on our Ancient Poke ba*ls,
but he stole one from us instead!

When we finally convinced him
to give it back, he told us about

a Poke Ball smith who's extremely
interested in rare Poke ba*ls.

Hopefully, she can give us some
info about these little mysteries.

What is going on in here?

I'm sorry, I was just practising
throwing Poke ba*ls.

If you're going to throw things,
do it outside.

The wires in the walls are critical
to the ship's functioning.

If even one... Pika! Pikachu!

TANNOY: Orla, need you
on the bridge -

an instrument's malfunctioning.

Pika!

Orla, the refrigerator's stopped
working.

Orla! The elevator is stuck.

And Chansey's trapped inside.

Hey, outlets are borked -
I can't charge my tech.

ALL: You have to fix it right away!

All right, already! I'm on it!
Everyone, just relax!

It's always like this.
Orla's really got it tough.

Ah, ah, ah, eee!

A-oo!

Hmm. You think that's the place
we're looking for?

Pika.

Er...

Hmm?

What is that?

# When you lead with your heart

# It's so scary at the start

# But that's the hardest part

# And trust me, it gets better

# I finally know where I belong

# This is way the weak grow strong

# I've got a feeling

# With you I'm becoming me
I'm becoming me!

# I'm becoming me. #

Oh! Those giant Poke ba*ls
are awesome!

They're definitely eye-catching.

Oh! Speaking of -

what's caught Orla's eye?
And that part connects over there.

OK, I get it now.
So it's like that, huh?

Unacceptable!

OTHERS: Unacceptable?

Sure, maybe it looks nice, but
the gears aren't properly aligned.

And then all that pointless
piping. It's nonsense!

This is an insult to machinery.

So that's what you were looking at.
When it comes to mechanics...

Orla's got high standards.

BOTH: Oh!

Kind of a shame, too.

With a few minor alterations,
it would make a great facility.

expl*si*n

OTHERS: Oh!

SHRIEKING

Huh? Oh, are you all customers?

Er, sort of.

Just, er, give me one sec...

Oh, I'll whip us up some tea,
if, um...

Come on, I know it's in here
somewhere.

Oh!

SHRIEKING

Are you OK?

That's what happens
when you don't organise.

All good, totally fine!

She's very...energetic. Oh!

Ooh, oh.
Wait, is that...?

Is this really a Poke Ball?

It sure is! That's my re-creation of
a super-old Hisui-region Poke Ball.

You just lift this and...

Amazing! That's really cool.

You've got some excellent taste.
By the way, name's Khana.

Pleased to meet you.

MAGBY EXHALES LOUDLY

Thanks a bunch, Magby.

Magby!

Well...

I'm so sorry to hear about Tepen.

I never expected him
to do something like that.

I told him I'd pay top dollar
to get my hands

on any rare-looking Poke ba*ls
he found, so that's probably my bad.

So do you collect all different
kinds of Poke ba*ls, Khana?

You betcha!
Poke ba*ls are extraordinary -

the very culmination of their
creator's unyielding resolve,

tireless efforts
and high standards.

The same standards I strive for
with every Poke Ball I make.

Ah, hmm.

Hey, Roy, you had a question,
didn't you? Uh-huh.

This is my prized possession.
It's an Ancient Poke Ball.

I was wondering if you know any...
Whoa, what is this?

I've never seen
anything like it before.

Look at its elegant shape
and pattern,

the classical detailing
and tasteful colour scheme.

This is one of the most beautiful
things I've ever seen!

Hmm. What?!
Did you just figure something out?

Nope, not a thing.

But when it comes to Poke ba*ls,
it's OK not to know everything.

What matters is that they exist.

OTHERS: Huh?

Ah, look at all of those!

Did you make all those
Poke ba*ls yourself?

They're my latest prototypes.

Some of them have trouble opening,
some of them don't stay closed,

some are too heavy,
some are the wrong size.

But with each failure,
I come closer to the success waiting

just beyond the horizon,
so I consider them future successes.

That's a great outlook.

I should think more like that.

Hey, Khana - mind if I take
some of those out for a spin?

Er... I really want to get more
practice throwing Poke ba*ls.

I'd love to try using
different kinds.

Yeah, that's the spirit
I love to see.

There's a note about
what each Poke Ball does,

so try out as many as you'd like.

All right! Come on, Fuecoco,
let's go practise!

Ah-ah! There are strong wild Pokemon
roaming around out there,

so just be careful, OK? OK!

CRASHING

Uh?

Not again!

Was that from the machine
you use for making Poke ba*ls?

Sadly.

I received a massive order
for one of my original designs,

so I bought a machine

that can supposedly produce
a ton of them at once,

but I guess a machine
just isn't going to cut it.

Hmm. Are you doing
regular maintenance?

Maintenance?

Like here.
The gears are all worn down.

Huh! And it's completely out of oil.

And then, over here...

..the coolant tank's empty! Hmm?

Left like this, the engine
could blow at any second. Ah.

Got to borrow this real quick.

Give this a little twist.

Plug that one in over here.

Move this guy over there.

Sorry to set her loose on you. Pika!

All right - fire it back up.

Oh, right.

ALL: Oh!

LAUGHS: Oh!

Pretty!

Hey, Khana. Huh?

If you work to take care of 'em the
way I do, they'll work for you, too,

so don't say machines
can't get the job done.

Er, ha-ha, you're right.
Sorry about that.

Poor performance isn't
the machine's fault.

A machine can only shine as bright
as its creator's standards.

And now that we're at it,

why don't we get your Pokemon
to help out, too?

Magby? Magby!

Here we go! Let's give
this bad boy a good throw.

Agh!

Imagine there's a Pokemon
right over there, and...

Agh!

Yeah, totally nailed it!

Let's see. "The Rocket Ball.

"Designed to fly straight ahead much
farther than a regular Poke Ball."

LAUGHS: Oh, I get it! OK, next one.

Hmm. Agh!

Huh? Man!

Agh! Wait. What was that?!

"The Boomerang Ball. Designed to
come right back after you throw it,

"which is good for catching Pokemon
close to your position."

How is that supposed to work?!
Ah-aah!

Let's try another.

Ah. Huh?

THEY SHRIEK

BOTH: Oh.

"The b*mb-b*mb Ball is fussy
and may explode before it's thrown,

"so extreme caution
is strongly advised."

Oh, come on!

After that, Orla and Khana
become fast friends.

Then it was maintenance power hour,
so I dipped.

Think she's probably going to be
there for a while.

A mechanic in the zone
can't see anything else.

Let's let her be. Orla could use
a breather as much as anyone.

I guess so. It definitely
seems like she's always busy.

Because you're always giving her
impossible requests.

Er, am not! Murdock's the one
constantly asking for favours!

Huh? I'm not the problem here!

I'm sure you've done more than your
fair share of pestering, Mollie.

Yeah right, as if.

It's all Friede! Definitely Murdock.
Mollie!

Friede! Murdock! Seems like there's
enough blame to go around,

and then some. Pika, Pika.

Observe! I'll catch that Pokemon
with my custom Poke Ball.

Or something along those lines. Oh!

Bah!

Bah! Bah!

Ah, there you go!

I think this'll increase
production by 30% or so.

How about we give it a whirl? OK!

Amazing!
Mass production perfected.

I had my doubts at first,
but getting the Pokemon to help

was a great idea. And Magby
looks like it's having fun.

You're a genius, Orla. It's similar
to the engine on our ship,

so I'm just doing what I always do.

Your Poke ba*ls are
really incredible, Khana.

They're beautiful!

No average craftsman could even
dream of making work that precise.

I really have to thank
my old mentor's training for that.

I was told if you're going to craft
a Poke Ball for your Pokemon,

aim for the highest standard
imaginable.

Oh, I get that. I always try
to make the best environment

I can for Pokemon I work with.

You know, considering we both craft
things with Pokemon in mind,

I think it's safe to say our work
is kind of similar, don't you?

Listen, Orla, what would you say
to staying

and working together as a team?

Hmm? Your technical skill,
my designs -

I have no doubt we could create
something truly incredible

if we put 'em together.

For example, something like, um...

Maybe like a Poke Ball
that flies through the sky.

A flying Poke Ball?
That sounds like fun.

Orla's going to leave the ship?
This is terrible!

Oh! I can't get anything to work.

OK, this time, let's check
the notes before we try one.

"The Chase Ball.

"If there's a Pokemon nearby,
it automatically heads toward it."

Now we're talking. Now...

BOTH: Ah!

Wait, what?

"But most of the time,
it doesn't open properly."

Oh, man!

POKE BALL BEEPS

Huh?

Oh! Grrr!

Grrr!... G... Ga...

Galarian...

..Weezing!

THEY SHRIEK

Grrr!

Hmm.

Perfect.
Bah, bah!

Is Orla really going to stay here
to work with Khana?

That would mean she'd have
to leave the ship, and...

POKEMON MEOWS

Hey, wrong, Liko?

Is your battery
low on energy, too?

Oh, no. I mean...

Time to go into power-saving mode.

Hey, Orla, would you say
you're happy?

Huh? Of course I am.

It would be nice if things
stopped breaking down, but...

Come to think of it,
what made you decide to start

travelling with Friede?

What? I haven't told you that story?

Not even once. So,

a long time ago, I worked
at a shipyard in the Hoenn region.

It was a fun time for me.

I was staying busy. There was
always something to tinker with.

My co-workers were great.

All in all, I was pretty content.

I didn't have any real complaints
or reason to be dissatisfied.

But now and then I couldn't help
but wonder, you know,

"Is this what I want
the rest of my life to look like?

"Is the work I'm doing now
really that important to me?

"What was it I wanted
to do in the first place?"

Then, one day,
I got a call from Friede.

Well, Orla, I've got a request that
only your skills can make happen.

I want to take the Olivine

and I want to turn it into
the greatest airship in the sky.

Huh?

That's ludicrous!

So, can you do it?

When he said that, it was like
a fire got lit in my heart.

Oh, you know I can!

Look, I had no idea
if it was even possible.

But I knew the only way
to find out was to try.

Friede's improbable idea and those
few little words changed everything.

I realised I'd been dying
to really challenge myself,

to push the boundaries of my skill.

And after I finished
overhauling the ship,

I knew I had found
what I'd been missing -

the thing I really wanted to do.

So what was it you wanted to do?

I wanted to...

SHRIEKING

Grrr! Grrr!

Oh, no! What's that?

Is that what Khana warned about?

Sprigatito!

Aaagh!

Fuecoco!

Please! Help! Quick!

Sprigatito, use Leafage!

Waah! Waah!

Grrrr!

Aargh!

POKEMON SQUEALS

Are you OK?

It's a Poison type.

A Grass type won't stand a chance.

Now, Metagross! You're up!

IT GRUNTS

Ha! Your poison attacks won't make
a dent on a Steel-type Pokemon!

What's going on out here? Agh!

Waah!

Metagross, blow it away!

Nice work, Metagross.
Now, use Metal Claw.

Sweet!

That was so amazing!

Meow!
OTHERS: Huh?

Hmm?

ALL: Agh!

SHRIEKING

ALL: Huh?

Pika, Pika!

Take 'em down, Cap!

Ha!

Agh! Kachow!

Pika. Pik...

WEEZING: Grrr!

Oh, man! That's a lot of Weezing.

Pika!

That'll work. Orla, get the
factory producing at full capacity!

Huh? You want me
to push it harder than this?

Yeah, we need to take it
to the limit.

So, can you do it?

Ah.

Ha! Oh, you know I can!

Metagross and Elekid, come on!

How are you going to do it, Orla?

With your help, Khana. Me?

Ah.

Bah!

Bah! Bah!

NERVOUSLY: Ah, ah.

Any further than this
and it'll blow.

Hey, Friede,
we're hitting the limit here.

Do you want these machines
to explode?

Just a bit more.

OK, then. Let's keep it up!

But what if...? It'll be OK.

I learned a long time ago to put
faith in Friede's wild schemes.

Ah!

BOTH: Oh!

That ought to do the trick.

WEEZING GRUNT

Huh?

Pika!

Huh?!

What're they doing?
COMPUTER: Weezing, Galarian form -

The Poison Gas Pokemon.

A Poison and Fairy type.

This Pokemon consumes pollutant
particles from the atmosphere

and expels clean air in exchange.

Oh, I see! The smoke from the
chimney is like Galarian Weezing's

all-you-can-eat buffet!
Crazy tasks with no explanation

that push me to the limit?
Classic Friede.

Done. This should help keep
the air clean, too.

Thanks for everything, Orla.

Khana, I'm sorry, but I won't be
able to stay and work here with you.

I kind of figured you'd say that.

Hmm?

A parting gift.

Oh!

Make sure you perform
regular maintenance when I'm gone.

Promise, if I forget,
you'll come help?

Even from halfway round the world.

BOTH: Uh? Huh?
Magby!

What was it I wanted to do?

Yeah. I wanted to do things
I'd never done before.

Huh?! It's hard working here,
but somehow I knew if I came

aboard this ship that I'd get
the chance to have new experiences

and try a million different things.

Don't you feel the same? Oh.

I guess she's right.

Ring! Orla,
the propeller's acting up.

Can you check on it ASAP? Pika!

Something's going on
with my air conditioner!

Hey, Orla,
the hot plate's acting all funny.

The observation room door
won't open, for some reason.

Orla, I made another
hole in the wall. I'm sorry!

ALL: You have to fix it right away!

Goodness me. What a tough job.

All right, all right, everybody,
I'll get right on it.

You can count on me.
