02x08 - Finale

Post by bunniefuu »

[♪ Red Means Run:
"You Got the Devil in You"]

All three of you did such an amazing job
with your stores.

-We could not send anyone home today.
-[Tim] No.

Well, now, we get to see
all three final collections,

which is amazing.

It could be any one of you,
in our opinion.

I mean, it's the biggest opportunity
of our lives.

You have one more assignment
standing between you and the win.

So, for your next and final assignment,

we want you to create
a ten-look collection

representative of your brand.

You will also be presenting
a succinct pitch

to the president of Amazon Fashion,

Christine Beauchamp, whom you met today.

She will be giving us her feedback
before we make our final decision,

so it's important.

I've done presentations before,
but not at this scale.

That's what I'm nervous about.

You only have four days
for this assignment,

but you'll have a team of two seamstresses
working with you in the design studio,

and another two seamstresses
working overnight for you.

Your model fittings are on day three,
and your business pitch is on day four,

the day before your final fashion show.

We have four days to do
all this assignment. It's crazy.

But it's the opportunity of my life.

I have to give my best of the best
ever in my career.

So, you all know
that the winner will receive

life and career-changing opportunities--

a mentorship,

the chance to sell your collection
in the Making the Cut store,

and, of course, one million dollars.

You will also receive a three-year lease,
free of charge,

at ROW DTLA, in the heart
of Los Angeles Fashion District...

And, guess what? There's more.

In addition to selling your own collection
on Amazon,

the winner will also get the opportunity

to create a brand-new
co-branded collection

with Amazon Fashion, to be sold
in the Making the Cut store.

That's two collections.
This is incredible.

This is big.

It was already an amazing opportunity,

but then the co-branding collection
is just, like, the cherry on top.

This is my opportunity

to get to that place
where I can really build

the company that I want to build.

-The sky is the limit.
-Yeah.

-You can do what you want.
-And just soar.

See you at your very last
Making the Cut fashion show,

for that million dollars.

-[kiss] I wish all of you good luck.
-Thank you, Heidi.

Much love.

-Bye!
-Thank you. Good night.

[♪ Rupert Pope: "Day One"]

My God! I'm excited!

We ordered fabric from Fabric.com,
and it's here.

-This is a lot of stuff, guys.
-It's insane!

No complaints from me!

[Andrea S.] In this competition, I have
marked my DNA since the beginning,

but I want to show that I can do more.

I want to create a collection
that creates an impact.

I'm gonna call it The Phenomenon.

I really need to evolve my DNA.

That's why I'm breaking rules
by mixing texture,

mixing prints with sequins, pleather,
mixing things unexpected.

I'm taking a risk, for sure.

Let's do this!

The first and third assignment
were pretty glamour.

The first one,
I brought in a wedding dress,

and then, for the bridal,
it was high glamour.

So, I'm gonna kind of revisit that
a little bit.

I'm going for laces, sequins, velvet.

I've been in the bridal world
for the last ten years.

So, winning this competition will allow me
to break out of this box

of being a bridal designer.

[♪ Devin Hoffman: "It's Going Down"]

I really want to create prints
specific to the location.

I'm getting a photo of a truck
that I'm gonna turn into a plaid,

and then, the sketches, one is like
a bleach print on a dark charcoal,

and then the other looks like I sketched
this whole field of flowers

and then tea-stained it.

I think the judges really appreciate
my textile work,

so, I'm kind of doing
some things like that.

I can do this.

-[Andrea S.] Hello!
-Hi!

[Andrea S.] Oh, my God, I'm so happy
we got our seamstresses.

That's a huge help.

Because I have four things cut,
I'll just give you everything.

I need to cut the facing,
but you can start building.

[♪ Pegboard Nerds & Quiet Disorder:
"Move That Body"]

I definitely feel the speed.
They know what they are doing.

I'll start sewing these,
and when I finish,

I'll come back and lay it out with you.

-And then we can go for next step.
-Okay, awesome.

I'm just trying to get things moving
while designing at the same time.

Because, also, once they leave,

there's another seamstress I have to have
eight hours' worth of work for.

So, this is really intense.

[♪ Elize: "Beautiful Day"]

-This looks so good.
-It does. It looks really good.

I don't have all ten looks figured out,
but I know what they're gonna feel like.

I want it to be, like, joyful.

I want it to be fun.

I'm gonna have fun. [laughs]

I'm using lots of prints, lots of colors,

and I'm creating a symmetrical print
that mirrors on the left and the right.

The judges haven't seen me do,
like, print-heavy.

I'm print-heavy now.

That works.

[Andrea S.] Andrea has a lot of sequins
and animal print,

and I got it as well
in the same one but silver.

We have similar tastes for fabrics,
but very different styling.

I'm not worried about that, not at all.

That looks really nice.

Perfect.

Oh, it's beautiful.

Well, I got all my print designs.

This is the rusted truck plaid.

This will be such a beautiful skirt.

I'm trying to communicate
with these designs

a sense of being a soldier.

I've been fighting
to be in the competition,

because it's bigger
than a million dollars.

It's about the mentorship.

It's about how it's going to change
your business.

I had a successful business
that became not successful.

Winning Making the Cut would allow me

to run a global business,
doing the things I love.

[♪ Invigilators: "Soldier"]

For one of my male models,

I really want to create
an amazing concrete jungle anorak.

I'm making the coat.

I don't know my full approach yet,
but all I know is, it's gonna be fire.

-I'll bring you the top.
-Okay.

[sighs]

I feel overwhelmed already.

I ordered too much fabric.

When you have too much to choose,
you can feel confused

which textures goes together.

My mind is like spinning super fast,

and I cannot concentrate; I don't know.

But I don't have too much time.

Today and tomorrow, and then
the pitch--it's, like, crazy.

But I have to fight extra hard.
There's too much at stake.

It's a huge step for my business
and for my family

and for everyone that supports me,

so I need to win this.

I hope this is what you needed.

No, I'm sorry.

-This is completely wrong.
-Oh, sh*t.

Why did she do that?

This is very frustrating.

The seamstress didn't listen to me,

and now I'm going to be
put back 20 minutes,

and I'm not going to make
the seamstress drop-off.

I'm just kind of having a moment.

I'm feeling a lot of frustration.

Plus, I'm looking around,
and Andrea is building her collection,

and she's literally
cranking out the styles.

Andrea is a machine.

It's creating anxiety for me,
because my output level

is probably, like, 80% less than theirs.

[sighs]

I'm gonna cry.

[Skype ringing]

[call answered]

-[Sean] Hey.
-Hey. How are you?

I'm good. How are you?

Yeah, I'm okay. It's kind of crazy.

So, I'm about to do... [sighs]

Uh...

-You okay, Gary?
-Yeah.

I'm just exhausted.

-Well, I just...
-And... yeah. [sighs]

[Gary] Sean is my biggest cheerleader
and support system.

Yeah, I'm okay.

Don't make me cry.

[Gary] You know, just being here,

you're not with the person
that you know loves you, so,

when you hear their voice,
it's very powerful.

[Sean] I'm just so very, very,
very impressed

and proud.

I have all the confidence
in the world in you,

and I can't wait for you to show them
everything you can do.

Yeah.

I just love you so much.

Okay, I love you too.

Bye.

[Gary]
You know, last night was difficult,

but I talked to Sean,
and it really set me up

to know that I can do this,
that I can go all the way.

[♪ Raphael Lake: "Above the Clouds"]

I've got to bust this out.

-That's the spirit.
-Yeah.

One thing at a time.

Hello, everyone.

-[Andrea S.] Hello!
-How are our designers doing?

-[Andrea P.] Good, how are you?
-Good?

I'm eager to have our Tim Talks.

-Andrea.
-Hi, Tim.

You have an excellent trajectory here.

-I feel good.
-Good.

I just need to make sure
that I'm working smartly.

-Working hard, working smart.
-Yeah.

-Let me go for the elephant in the room.
-Yeah.

This jacket.

I don't understand it
in the context of this collection.

It's so sporty, compared to
how dressy everything else is.

-I can change it--
-What if he walks without a coat?

Better already.

This can go down the runway
without anything on it.

[Tim] It can.

But I don't want it to feel
like I just gave them a black turtleneck.

I understand.

And so, I'm gonna really think about
the way that I can elevate this look.

-I think you should.
-Yeah.

So, Gary, how are you?

-I'm--I'm good.
-Talk to me.

I wanted to do
a beautifully-fitted military coatdress,

but it kind of has a Victorian waist,

but very strong, and I want
to fit it perfectly to her body.

And then, I'm doing the cocoon tapestry.

Love the textile.

And yesterday, I draped this,
so, it's not very exciting right now...

-But I'm just--
-I will agree.

You need to infuse this
ten-look collection with some allure

and some sexiness.

Right.

That is what's between you
and a million dollars.

And you're here because everybody believes
you can win this.

-Right. I know.
-Or you wouldn't still be standing.

-Alright?
-Yep.

-Thank you, Gary.
-Thank you.

Sometimes I make sexy clothes,

but it's not really part
of my design criteria.

But, obviously, maybe it should be.

Okay.

Andrea, how are you doing?

Hi. How are you?

Tell me what your goal is
in presenting this collection.

So, I'm trying to mix different fabrics

and different textures
in all of the looks,

so, maintaining, like, the vibe.

I'm not seeing the same vibe.
I'm seeing different vibes.

-You have this color story...
-Yes.

...and then you have the silver and navy.

They seem as though
they're a different collection.

-Alright. Um...
-And it's not the color.

It's the cuts, it's the vibe...

-Okay.
-...that they have.

-It's different.
-Alright.

-And, also, are you using these belts?
-Yes.

Why? They're silver.

[Andrea] I think that's my point.
I want to mix and match--

What's your point?
I'm getting so confused.

I want to mix gold, silver...

I want to mix all these metallics
in one place.

I'll be honest,
this looks like the amateur hour.

And you're anything but an amateur.

You need to make adjustments in what--

Okay, perfect.

You need to.

I'm gonna fix it, no worries.

Okay. Andrea, thank you.

Thank you.

Tim doesn't understand,
I want to break rules.

I want to do unexpected mixes.

But I got his point.

I need to find a balance
and try to connect

all the looks in the collection.

Alright, designers.

You'll have a full workday tomorrow,
minus your business pitches

with Christine Beauchamp.

These business pitches
are critically, critically important.

They need to be succinct,
you need to be passionate.

You need to have a plan
that can actually be ex*cuted.

So, as you're working,

keep running through
all those variables in your brains, okay?

Alright. I'll see you tomorrow, everyone.
[kiss] Take care.

[♪ Devin Hoffman: "Last of Me"]

So, I need to make new garments
to make the collection more cohesive.

I'm just gonna do some solid pieces

and try to achieve that balance
in the collection.

Do you do much changes, Andrea?

I don't have to change anything,
I just need to remake something.

Tim didn't understand my anorak coat.

He felt like it was too sporty
amongst the very fancy looks.

Do a fur coat with a pink lining.

And I remember when men wore
oversized fur coats

because they just wanted to be fly,

and I said, "We're gonna go with that.
We're gonna go with a fur coat."

I just want my model to strut.

Hey!

[Andrea S.] Hello!

Your dress is cut, but it's not ready.

It needs to be tighter. It wasn't doing
what it was supposed to do.

Let me see you. Oh, my God,
it's so different seeing it on a body.

[♪ Photronique: "PSA"]

I'm concerned about Jasmine's coatdress,

'cause it's got to look sexy,

and I don't know
if it looks sexy right now.

[Andrea] Gary be coming through
with a straight vibe.

Come on, competition, I ain't mad.

I have to focus, Andrea.

[laughs]

[Andrea S.] Stacey, you know what?
Let's try this one.

I'm mixing and matching between the looks,

because I want to get
the most balanced styling.

That way, I realize the collection
has a connection.

It looks super cool, all of you.

Winning this competition,
it's important to me,

because I can take my brand
to the next level, and...

There's a lot of artisans in Colombia
who are very, very talented.

I want to invest in them.

I want to support my community.

This is my special creation.

It's called FST.

FST means Forgotten Skin Tones.

It's a lining and illusion in fabric

that is used to compliment women of color
in different complexions.

Oh, that's invisible.

My brain has always
been about inclusivity,

and I'm really creating looks
that belong to different people.

-Oh, should we do a pink lining?
-Let's do it! I see it.

-Okay, we're gonna line it in the pink.
-It's over.

Do we feel like that leather band
made impact?

I mean, it's cool with the shoes.
It kind of ties that back in.

The leather was there for a reason.
[laughs]

My models are, like, amazing.

Everything is, like, ah! [laughs]

-We're winning.
-Yeah, we're winning.

-Yes. Oh, we're winning.
-Let's do it, let's win it!

Bye, guys. Bye.

[♪ KADE: "Fight"]

Today is a big, big day.

The presentation of our pitch.

Through storytelling, research,
and original content creation...

I can't wait to show you what we can do
with a million dollars.

Thirty percent, expansion of the team.

Twenty percent, technology.

What's gonna engage the public?

Lastly, I would hire a financial advisor.

Come on up.

Today, we'll have to present
a pitch presentation

to the president of Amazon Fashion.

It's overwhelming, but I got it.

-Hi, Andrea.
-Hi, Tim.

How are you?

The pitch is the gateway
to the million dollars.

I am feeling a lot of doubt right now,

because I know if I don't do really well
with the pitch,

I'm not going to achieve my goal.

It's nice to see you, Gary.

Nice to see you.

Through storytelling, research,
and original content creation,

I'm going to show you how my vision
is not only the next global brand,

but really the future of fashion.

We write the story, we are the story,
we own the story,

creating a world
that people are engaged with.

My customer follows along the process
of Jacquard being woven,

textile production,
how it translates into product.

Fan--this is a fan Instagram
wearing the slip.

So, this translates to the customer today.

When I went into your pop-up,
your prints were beautiful,

and your make was beautiful,

but some of the pieces
did look quite historical,

and maybe not as modern and current.

How do you think about
how you manage that balance

between of another time
and for today's wearer?

Not all of my things are historical.

When I talk about narrative,
I'm also talking about present tense,

futuristic, and my vision
is a world vision,

but it's also collaborative.

I really want to keep what I'm doing.

It's really important,
because that's the jewel in all this.

But I also want to get out in the world.

I wouldn't be here
if I didn't want to scale.

Thank you so much for letting me
inside your world this afternoon.

-I really enjoyed it.
-Thank you, Christine. It was an honor.

I think winning Making the Cut would mean

that this idea that I'm trying to work out
and obsessed with

was somehow validated.

I'm not crazy.

Other people see it,
and they're willing to invest in it

and take a risk.

My brand has proved a story of success.

We have a great presence online.

We have over 200,000 followers
on social media.

Our brand has been worn
by many top celebrities

and influencers around the world.

My master's degree
is in international business,

and I have three languages.

I want to create a production center
in Colombia.

It will make us very competitive.

Thirty percent assigned
to the expansion of our team,

especially in terms
of logistics and sales.

Thirty percent sales and marketing
is crucial.

I want to invest 20 percent
in our tech efforts

that advance technology in our platforms.

That's gonna give us a boost on sales.

How do you think about defining
customer-relevant quality

and making sure that what you think is
quality matters to your customers?

I always think as a customer.
That's the best exercise ever.

I visit the competition,
I see other brands,

so I can have the best product
at the best price.

I have the energy, and I'm ready.

I can see the energy.
Thank you so much for your time today.

-Thank you.
-It was lovely to see you.

The meeting went very well.

I felt a little bit nervous at
the beginning, but after that, it flowed.

The important thing
is that I have a vision.

That's what really matters.

I opened my first brick and mortar store
seven years ago,

with $4,000 in cash and a $4,000 loan.

About three years ago, I moved into
a 3,000-square-foot space in Brooklyn.

The million dollars would really allow us
to hire brand strategists.

Next, I would hire an operations manager.

Have someone else do the operations
while you handle your CEO tasks.

My brand is celebratory.
That's, like, the biggest thing.

I celebrate people, all walks of life,
no matter where they come from.

I feel like just making sure
that people feel acknowledged

is a big part of our design brand.

Will you tell me
a little bit about the role

that the customer plays
in your design process?

I'm gonna love anything that I design,
but I want to make sure that the customer

is coming with intentions to purchase
and we actually follow through.

I want to know what people are pinning,
I want to know what they're saying,

I want to know what
their customer experience has been,

and I take that all into consideration
when it comes to the fashion.

They're talking to us. We just need
to make sure that we're paying attention.

That's wonderful,

and very customer-obsessed
in your point of view.

Thank you for sharing your story
and for sharing your vision.

-I really appreciate it.
-Thank you.

I'm walking away from my pitch feeling

as excited and as motivated as I did
the first day that I walked in.

I feel like I've proven myself.

I got to this point to be able
to even share my story and share my plans,

and I'm happy that I fully ex*cuted that.

These shoes got to come off.

Well, we certainly are left
with three extremely talented,

very different designers.

Very different.

In many ways, my head is a swirl,

and it will all come down
to the clothes tomorrow.

[♪ Georgina Daisy Birch: "I'm Feelin' It"]

[Andrea P.] We had four days to create
a ten-look collection.

I want to win this competition,
because I'd love for my child to see

what being focused
and working hard results in.

My kid already knows I work hard.
He's only two, but he knows.

I am happily making some accessories.

That's the thing
that I want him to be proud of.

I can't believe this is the last time
we're going to be in here.

It's been an incredible journey.

Hey, y'all!

[♪ Divinity Roxx:
"Give the People What They Want"]

[Andrea S.] Oh, my God,
I feel chills already.

I can't believe this runway,
it's a reality.

Alright, just finished. Woo!
They look cool.

[Andrea S.] Andrea did an amazing job.

I love how she did the accessories.

I like the sexiness of the woman.

But I don't like showing too much.

I would show in another way.

And Gary's collection,
it's definitely high-fashion,

but it's very him.

I relooked at your
measurements

and I was like,
"I want this to fit like a glove."

[Gary]
I'm really proud of how hard I worked.

I feel like I have the winning collection.

I definitely gave my all,
which is really important,

'cause this is, like, one of
the most important shows of my life.

Might be the last one I ever do.

Hey. Andrea, you just made that thing.

[Andrea] Yeah, I did.

-[laughs]
-I'm jealous.

-It looks really good.
-Gary--Thank you.

I think Andrea's collection
is really strong.

It looks really cohesive,
and there's a lot of glamour.

She just knows what she's doing.

And Andrea's collection has
a lot of gold in it.

Personally, I'm missing her jackets,
but she did an amazing job.

It's gonna be a really tough decision
for the judges.

We're gonna win!

[all cheering]

[Gary] Okay, let's go, everybody. Come on.

Let's go do this thing!

All the hard work, all the, like, tears...

Somebody's going home
with a million dollars.

It's insane to me.

[♪ Candice Russell: "Ignite"]

[♪ Baby Eskimo: "This is the Life"]

I can't believe this is
our final fashion show.

How exciting is that?

It's tremendously exciting,
and, you know, Heidi,

it's been such an honor
to be able to follow the journeys

of these amazing emerging designers.

It feels like we just arrived yesterday
in our fashion bubble,

and now it's already coming to an end.

I know.

Tonight, we're going to decide
who will win.

You and the judges have
a big decision to make,

and I'll tell you,
from looking at the collections,

it's not going to be easy.

We are grateful to have one of
the most prominent faces in fashion,

seen on runways around the globe,

supermodel Winnie Harlow.

[Heidi blows a kiss]

And the creative director of Moschino,
Jeremy Scott.

And we are honored to have with us
the president of Amazon Fashion,

Christine Beauchamp.

-Christine, welcome.
-Thank you.

And, Heidi, Christine is going to give you
and Winnie and Jeremy

feedback about the designers'
business pitches to her.

Yes, and I'm looking forward
to hearing how that went,

because it is so very important for us
to understand that

before we make our final decision.

And it really is critical.

This will be our final fashion show.
Enjoy.

[pop music playing]

[squeals]

-Hi, everybody.
-[all] Hi!

Thank you for being here
to enjoy my fashion show.

I had such a good time.

I kind of wanted you all to kind of
go through a rollercoaster ride,

just like I have been.

[laughter]

-This is gonna be a party.
-Thank you.

[Christine and Jeremy] Thank you.

-I'm excited for the party.
-Yeah, I'm excited for the party too.

Come sit.

###

[♪ Daniel Farrant: "On the One"]

Oh, hello.

[Winnie] Wow.

Sell it, girl.

I just love the statement.

Tells you who she is right from the start.

I like that she's playing with
the lingerie theme,

and the sparkle is a party.

[Heidi] How beautiful is this combination
of this blouse with that sparkle suit?

[Christine] And the modernity
of a beanie on top.

-[Winnie] I'm so here for this.
-[Heidi] Me too.

We're gonna fight over that.

[laughing]

She's totally on a campaign
of evening wear is anytime.

[♪ Grayson Voltaire: "Because It's Easy"]

Hello there.

Great solution with the harness.

[Heidi] The pants I'm loving.
I actually love that jacket too.

-[Christine] For men and women.
-[Heidi] Yeah.

I even want to see more of the holster.
I want to see that in her collection.

-[Jeremy] This dress is so cute.
-[Heidi] Yeah.

[Christine] And I love how she styled it
in a very modern way.

[Heidi] Mm-hmm. "Dream in reality."

[♪ Ms. Triniti: "Let's Celebrate"]

-Your collection makes me smile.
-Oh, yay! That's my goal.

This might be my favorite look
of the entire collection.

I'm totally confused
by the top of the turtleneck.

-[Winnie] Oh, I love that.
-[Heidi] No, I love it too.

[Winnie] Beautiful.

[Winnie] Here we go.
You can see how it works right here.

There's a little doily
hanging off the back.

-[Winnie] Uh-huh. Exactly.
-[Christine] It's a beautiful print.

-[Jeremy] It is.
-It has a ton of potential.

I agree with you on that.

[Jeremy] Sequin burger button.
Is it like a fanny pack?

[Heidi] Oh, I thought it was a purse.

I'm not sure.
I don't understand it either.

[Christine]
The blue is a beautiful color blue.

Yeah, fun. Fun show.

[Tim] Congratulations,
and run so you don't miss your train.

-Thanks, Tim.
-Okay?

I love that she showed us a party.

I love her first look
starting off the vibe,

immediately telling us
who she's here to dress,

and that's every woman and every shape,
and I love that.

I will say, she was really reliant
upon the sequins.

-Yeah, you can do flash with other things.
-Yeah.

For sure.

Hi, Gary.

Hi, Heidi.

It's an honor to be here
in Southern California,

where all the women I watched
growing up came from--

Laura Ingalls, especially Nellie Oleson--

this is dedicated to her and her character
and the actress Alison Arngrim.

Thank you so much.

-Thank you.
-Thank you.

Did I just hear "Laura Ingalls"?
Is this the "Little House on the Prairie"?

-It's the Little Gary on the Prairie.
-[laughs]

So, how are you feeling
about the collection?

-I feel good.
-You should.

[♪ Lee Richardson: "Yeah We Do It Like"]

This skirt is great.

It's Gary, but it's different.

-Yeah, it's more modern, that look.
-Uh-huh.

If there's one word I would use
to describe it--poetic.

Thank you. It means so much.

[Christine] Those separate pieces
of the coat and the shirt

could really be worn in a modern way.

[Jeremy] The shape of this jacket
is so good. It's so well done.

I love the sash. Beautiful.

[♪ Raphael Lake: "Bets on Me"]

[Winnie]
The print is gorgeous on this one.

[Heidi] Yeah, I like the print.

[Winnie] It's beautiful.

She's covered up, but she's sexy,
and she's alluring.

Right.

That print has real potential,

and that could be put in
a number of different items.

This, I think, is beautiful,
like, the sheer on top.

I'm not sure about the silhouette.

[♪ Nick Kingsley: "I'm Not Afraid"]

[Heidi] This I love.
I think she looks super cool.

-[Christine] Very cozy.
-[Heidi] Yeah.

[Jeremy] Cozy AF.

[Heidi]
And I think this is my favorite look.

I agree. I love this whole look.

[Heidi] This whole look
is a very cool combination.

To me, this reminds me
of Degas' ballerina, that sculpture.

I can really respect this kind
of simplicity, this kind of subtlety,

-this kind of beauty that he's showing.
-[Heidi] Mm-hmm.

-[Tim] Alright, join your train.
-[Gary] Okay.

-Okay?
-Thank you.

-Stand proud.
-Okay.

[applause]

[applause]

I love Gary. He's really about making
that special, special fabric.

Having things that could pull
your heartstrings

can really be a dead winner.

I've never really seen modern from Gary,

but I think he really listened
and tried to put some of those things

into his thought process
when creating this line.

[pop music playing]

-Hello, guys.
-[all respond]

Today, I'm here to present you
Phenomenon collection,

a collection inspired in the natural
phenomenons around the world.

This journey has been
a phenomenon in my life.

-Enjoy the show.
-[Heidi] Thank you.

[♪ Devin Hoffman: "The End"]

Wow, I love it. Ah!

I'm so used to seeing darkness
when it comes to her looks,

but this was kind of unexpected.

[Jeremy] Her use of the Jacquard
was really good.

It was definitely a more sophisticated way
for her to do the animal print.

[♪ Nick Kingsley: "Courageous"]

She's tucked the arms where it makes
the t-shirt even more elevated.

-Elevate the t-shirt.
-[Jeremy chuckles]

[Christine] The faux leather
is such a strong staple in her collection

that she could create a group
of iconic pieces of leather

one could mix and match.

[Jeremy] The top seemed fine,
but I'm just not wild about the legging.

It feels a little meh.

[Tim] I didn't realize
you were putting that on a man.

Actually, it's genderless.

-As a man too, I mean, it's different.
-Mm-hmm.

Here is my favorite one.
I like those pants and that top.

[Christine] Her customer likes
a little shine.

-[Heidi] Yeah.
-A strong print.

[Jeremy] Little gold and black
never hurt nobody.

-I like a little gold and black.
-Me too.

[♪ Malo: "The w*r"]

Her girl is definitely a fun girl,
she wants to be a little flashy.

And that jacket definitely fits her well.

[Heidi] And here's her statement jacket
that she loves.

She's been showing this
throughout the whole season.

-She's very true to herself.
-Yeah.

[Tim] Congratulations.
Now run and join your train.

-Thank you.
-Okay?

Thank you so much, Tim.

[applause]

Thank you.

I feel like she did a really good job,
you know?

It's a fun girl, her girl.

-There is a customer for these clothes.
-Yeah.

This sexy, glamour, power point of view.

And there were some more modern pieces
in there that I hadn't seen.

I don't have any question
or doubt for her future,

and she's really,
obviously, done very well.

I just want to say congratulations
to the three of you,

and... it's anyone's game.

Congrats, guys.

I'm so proud of us. [laughs]

Alright, we have to decide
which one of these three designers

is going to win.

Everyone has really evolved over
the amount of time that we've had here.

Let's start with Andrea.

She did a fantastic show today.

I see a lot of fun things in there.

But what I miss seeing is
a unique point of view.

But I definitely feel like
there's a customer...

around the world
that would enjoy these clothes.

Even though she said that
she wasn't really into doing menswear,

she took a risk there,

and she went out of her comfort zone
and tried it out.

[Heidi] How was her business pitch?

Her business pitch was energetic,
with a lot of ideas.

Of all the pitches, hers was
the most business-oriented.

She had the most well-thought-out
business plan

in terms of how she'd use the capital,
and she really thought it through.

I am not surprised one bit that she had
the best business pitch,

'cause she is a real businesswoman.

-Yeah.
-She knows what she's doing.

Let's move on to Andrea.

When she came out in that sparkly dress,
at first, I was like,

"Wow, that's a high slit."

But then, yeah, it came off.

I love that.

I love that statement of the get-go.

Even the choice of that model
being her opening model,

it's so true to her
and who she showed us all season.

[Winnie]
I was so obsessed with that jacket.

She wowed me with the pink, of course,
my favorite color.

But I didn't quite love the fabric

of the undergarments underneath.

I don't think that
they were very flattering,

but it's always something different.

It's always refreshing to me.

I'm always impressed
by what Andrea brings to the table.

How was her business pitch?

Her business pitch was
as you would have expected it to be.

It was vibrant.
I wanted to be a part of her world.

She had a strong thread
of customer-centricity

and a strong point of view
that she wanted to represent every woman

and make every woman feel beautiful.

I think she's ready and charged
to take it to the next.

[Heidi] Gary.

Gary is so super thoughtful,

and that totally reflects in his clothes.

He doesn't just pick something
that already exists;

he, like, creates everything himself.

Although this line was still very Gary,

it also had those little hints of modern

and even a little bit sexy.

I would say never underestimate
the power of nostalgia.

It's craftsmanship without being crafty.

It would be so interesting to see
what he does with that million dollars.

We talked about this
in the business pitch,

and he did talk about wanting now
to collaborate with others,

and I think he is willing to push and pull
his historical references

to try to bring them forward a little bit.

He's a true designer.

Gary has that vision that is personal...

almost to his detriment,
but that's what an artist is.

And a true fashion designer is an artist.

While he's also shown
that he can open his mind a bit

and show us what else he has to offer...

My only thing with him...
they are "Little House on the Prairie,"

or maybe they are a little inspired
by being out here.

I'm sorry, but make it challenging,
because fashion is challenging.

I love Gary too, but to me,
he's too stuck.

I was concerned from the pop-up shop

that he really was stuck
in a different time.

[Heidi] Yeah.

But what I saw today had much more range.

Do you think that will sell,

like some of these "time warp,"
let's say, pieces?

[Jeremy] He's not in a time warp.

He stood here and told us himself
that he is open to collaborating,

open to hearing new things.

I have no doubt that he can work
with the Amazon team.

And I think
you cannot do something brilliant

if you don't have a true vision.

And his vision is unique.

I do like his dresses,
and while I would wear them,

I don't think that they speak
to a lot of people,

the way I think Andrea P.'s would speak.

He might not be for everybody,
but there is real brand there.

He has a real vision
and has the real potential.

But is he a global brand?

You cannot pass this opportunity up.

I'm giving you a passionate plea.

I'm telling you the truth. [sighs]

And I hate when I get like this.

-Ugh!
-I kind of love it.

[Winnie] This is going to be tricky.

We want the next designer for the world.

Christine, thank you for your help
and being here,

and thank you for your input.

Thank you. It's my pleasure
to have been here.

Bye.

Okay, this is it.

-It is.
-[Andrea P. laughs]

-We're done.
-We're done.

As Tim said, the cake is baked.

[laughter]

Designers, what a fashion show.

That was exciting, it was fun,
and anything but boring.

You did a lot of amazing work
in just four short days.

Thank you.

I have to echo that. Bravo.

We got to see your truest colors
come out tonight,

and they were all beautiful to watch.

It's been so beautiful to see you guys
not only show us who you are

but show us an evolution.

[Heidi] All three of you are here tonight
because we felt that you all earned it.

We had every intention of having
a two-person finale,

but you all deserved to be here.

One of you will be the winner
of Making the Cut.

The winner of Making the Cut will receive
career and life-changing opportunities--

a mentorship,

the chance to sell your collection
in the Making the Cut store

and to sell a second collection--
a co-brand with Amazon Fashion.

You will also receive a three-year lease
at ROW DTLA

and one million dollars
to take your brand to the next level.

It's too much. [laughs]

[Heidi] It's happening so very soon!

This is an incredible night
for one of you.

We're here to find the designer

who can create
the next great global brand,

and the designer behind the brand
is just as important

as the clothes
that walk in the fashion show.

Or, in this case, we're looking for
a fashion designer and an entrepreneur.

We have made some decisions
based on this fashion show,

but those decisions
aren't necessarily final.

So, this conversation
that we're about to have

is a one-million-dollar conversation.

Andrea, we're going to talk to you first.

Okay.

I got inspired by all kind
of phenomenons around the world

that really make a statement.

I really put my voice there.

I also took risks, because...

I mixed textures.

And that's something
that I never did before.

So, definitely, I had a lot of fun.

It's the reflection of myself, my sister,
my mom, all my family.

And we are all a strong woman
that wants to succeed.

And it's an honor for me to be here.

I totally understand
what your brand is all about.

I understand your vision.

I see your passion.

I think the way you dress
is really cool and fun,

and I think that there are so many women
out there that want to be just like you

and have a piece of that.

I was happy to see your collection.

I loved seeing the lighter tones,
which was kind of a surprise, in a way.

I loved seeing you create
something a little bit different

and use different colors.

I'm so used to seeing you create
dark palettes and dark lines,

and I was quite impressed.

-Thank you.
-[Heidi] Thank you so much.

Andrea, we're going to talk to you next.

I wanted to kind of show, like,
all the flavors of Andrea,

something different but something
that you knew automatically would be me.

I wanted it to be the perfect balance
of statement and staples.

And I thought about what sells,
but I also thought about

what brings me joy
and what would bring other people joy.

I listened to my male models, because
I don't know much about menswear,

but I think it came out pretty good.

I think I'm a really healthy balance
between creativity and business.

And I work really, really hard. [laughs]
I don't stop working.

I don't stop working.

I love the "wow" moment from the get-go.

Your bridal influence
is in all the beautiful details

and all the amazing fabrics
that you choose.

I was very impressed.

-Thank you.
-It gave me, like, little chills.

I love that you gave so much range,

to the point that, as Heidi mentioned,
I was like, "Wait,

where is that plaid coming from
in that turtleneck?

I'm not understanding
where this is going."

But I love the enthusiasm.

And that's what fashion should be.
It should be fun.

Thank you, Andrea.

Thank you.

Last but not least.

Here comes Gary.

-Hi, Gary.
-Hi, Heidi.

Tonight, I showed a collection
that was inspired

really from all the westerns
I had seen growing up.

You know, the gunslinger
walks into the saloon,

there's a cloud of dust, and there's
this idea that they've been traveling,

that they've been somewhere.

So, that really inspired me
to design this collection.

The first look out was something
that I could see any girl today wearing.

It had a little punky energy to it.
It had a cool vibe to it.

And it wasn't stuck
in that old-time energy

that I'm used to seeing from you.

And I really appreciated that,
because, at a certain point,

we really felt like,
"Is Gary stuck in a time warp?

Can we pull him out of his comfort zone?"

And you showed that you can do that.

I think you're a master of creating
your own textile.

I think this is probably, in my eyes,
your biggest strength,

that you can just create something so new,

instead of just running
to the fabric store

and just picking something.

You had my most favorite men's look.

I loved the pants.

Because, to me, there, also, you showed
more modern, more now.

Thank you.

I love seeing the poetry
in the collection.

You know, the softness and the strength.

The last dress was like
the Degas ballerina, in a new way.

I thought it was beautiful
in its subtlety.

And I'm not a subtle guy.

So, you reached in and touched me
with something subtle,

so kudos to you on that.

Thank you, Gary.

You're welcome. Thank you.

Andrea, Andrea, Gary,

one of you will be the winner
of Making the Cut.

Andrea...

...you did a great job...

...but, I'm sorry,
you're not making the cut.

Okay.

-I'm sorry.
-Thank you so much for this opportunity.

I mean, super grateful.

You're exploring, and that's exciting,
and, you know,

you have to stick your foot in the water
or just jump in.

I definitely took risks,
and I broke the rules.

-Break the rules. Have fun.
-[laughs]

That is really what fashion
should be about.

-Thank you for everything.
-Thank you.

Of course, I feel
a little bit disappointed, but...

I'm just looking to the bright side
right now, because I learned a lot.

I'm happy, because
I just did this competition,

and I came until the end.

So, I fight until the end.

Gary, Andrea...

one of you will be the winner
of Making the Cut.

Like I said, this has been
quite the conversation.

As a reminder, the majority wins.

My vote for the winner is...

It is you, Andrea.

Thank you.

Jeremy, what is your vote?

My vote is for you, Gary.

Thank you.

[Heidi] One to one.

Winnie, it comes down to you.

Coming to this competition as a judge,

I was really looking for something
to wow me.

I wanted to see something different.

I wanted to see your spirits
shine through.

And I feel like I saw that
through all of you this entire season,

and I'm so proud of you.

My vote...

...goes to Andrea.

You are the winner of Making the Cut.

-[applause]
-[crying]

Thank you.

You just won a million dollars
and a whole bunch of other things.

[sobbing] Thank you.

Not altogether clean handkerchief,
but it's yours.

Thank you.

It's gonna have all my
make-up on it.

Oh, you may keep it. [laughs]

I won everything.

[laughs] I won everything.

I won a whole lot of stuff.

Gary and Andrea...

Christine Beauchamp loved
both of your brand visions.

She liked both of your visions so much,
that she would like to also

give both of you
the chance to sell collections

in the Making the Cut store on Amazon.

That's amazing. Great news.

[Heidi] That is great news.

Thank you.

I'm so thrilled that I did this.

I'm just proud that every wall that I hit,
I kind of just worked through it.

And there were a lot of 'em.

But now, I feel much more confident.

I did pretty well.

Andrea, we have a special surprise.

[all yelling]

Ah!

Yay! [laughs]

I want to see everyone too. Can I?

Hi, everyone!

[all cheering]

[Heidi] Did you tell them?

She just won Making the Cut, okay?

And she just won
one million dollars, okay?

[applause]

Now they heard it.

[all exclaiming]

[Andrea] That's my husband,
that's my baby, Ekene,

my sister, and that's my mom, Lucy.

-And it's past your bedtime.
-[all laugh]

-It's past everyone's bedtime. [laughs]
-Yeah!

-Congratulations.
-Thank you.

Congratulations to all you guys
for making it this far.

-Thank you.
-Yes.

This was really, really difficult.

[Heidi laughs]

Congratulations.

The whole thing is overwhelming,
and then, now, it's over,

and it's just--
it's a lot to, like, think about.

[♪ Amara Primero: "Stronger"]

I came into this competition to, like,
break out of this bridal box,

bridal-wise, personality-wise.

But through this competition,
I was able to be open,

and it ended up being
really, really fruitful.

Making the Cut has shown me
that I am a fierce fighter.

This experience has been amazing.

You literally feel yourself changing,
assignment after assignment.

Whew!

[squealing]

It's molding you into the person
that you're supposed to be,

the designer that you're supposed to be,

and the business person
that you're supposed to be.

Thank you.

When you get to the end of it, you realize
that you're just not the same.

I get to build my brand
way bigger than it's been.

I get to take all the lessons I've learned
here and apply them immediately.

I feel so proud.

I learned that I am most certainly
not stuck in a box.

There's no ceiling here.

Like, I can do absolutely anything I want.

[♪ Lani Misalucha: "Unbreakable"]
