[Ashley] Testing another
crucial dance skill...

Oh, gosh. Now I'm nervous.

[Ashley] ...working as a team
in monster duets.

This round is definitely a game-changer.

and now we're going to have
to work together to get through?

the monsters into pairs.

and teamwork.

Eight remain from our monster crew,

and they're within touching distance
of the semifinal.

[Ashley] They've all proved
that they're amazing individual dancers.

Seriously.

[Ashley] But now we're testing
their teamwork.

Dancing at top level
also means performing in groups

where synchronicity is key.

'Cause they'll have to rely on each other

to get through to the next stage
of the competition.

Ne-Yo, you've done a duet or two
in your time, right?

Any tips for our pairs?

Now, you have to rely on your partner.

Teamwork is going to be very important.

I can't have my eye drawn
to one part of the team

more than the other part of the team.

[Ne-Yo] I need y'all
to be together on that,

making sure that you're not trying
to outdance or overdance

the other person you're on stage with.
You're a team now.

Listen, "teamwork makes the dream work",
as they say, right?

But if you get it correct, it can take you
to a level you've never been,

if you get it wrong, it can be bad.

For your sakes,
I hope you've all got it right.

Only the top two pairs will go straight
through to the semifinal,

and the remaining four monsters will have
to dance again but back as solo dancers.

The bottom two monsters
will be leaving at the end of the show.

[audience exclaims]

Okay, monster pairs,
let's get this show on the road then.

-[Lele] Hey!
-[Ne-Yo] Hey!

What's the thing
that's going to make you go,

"All right, yeah, this is the group"?

I want to see connection,
relationship in their dances.

Having fun.

I'm going to be so interested
to see how they work together.

If I was paired with someone,
it would make me raise my game.

Right.

For example, if me and you sang a duet,
like, I'm the better singer.

[Ashley Banjo] So you'd have to
lift your game.

You know what I mean?
[laughs]

[relaxed pop music]

If we get through this round,
we're in the semifinals.

-Can you believe that?
-That is crazy.

Teamwork is about to make
the dance monsters' dream work.

[Ashley] But before we see
our first duo dance,

let's find out why
our monster-loving panel paired them,

and how well the monsters
have been working together in rehearsals.

[audience cheering]

First up, it's Flame and Grummy!

[audience cheering, applauding]

Why don't we put, like,
Grummy and Flame together?

[Ashley Banjo] Wow, that is crazy.

Since, you know, Flame is lacking
the personality and Grummy has it,

maybe he can teach her something,
you know?

[Ne-Yo] Right. And Flame
is an experienced commercial dancer

while Grummy is a little bit
more raw and freestyle,

so she can teach him
some of her technique.

[Lele] Yeah.

[Ashley Banjo] I want there to be
not just competition between the pairs,

but within the pair.

-This is going to be special.
-Yes.

-Flame, hey!
-[Flame] Hey!

[Grummy] I was so excited
to be paired with you, but I was like,

"What are we about to do?"
[chuckles]

She's a commercial dancer,
technically trained,

and I am a freestyle at heart, super raw.

In rehearsal, Flame is like,
picture-perfect with her movement.

-Straight. Legs going. Yeah, there you go.
-Oh, yeah?

She has an eye for all the little details
that slip my mind.

The panel wants to see
more character from me.

To be bigger and be more raw
with my emotion and genuine.

You're naturally an animated person,

and you bring that character out
when you perform.

So I'm definitely going to work
to focus more on the character.

It's either going to be absolutely amazing
or we're going to fall apart.

Flame and Grummy, let's get ready.

Flame, Flame and Grummy.

To be one step closer to the semifinal,
we've got to work with each other,

combining my style
and your style together.

In our dance,
we are kind of at w*r with each other,

like, but ultimately,
we're at w*r with everybody else.

So we're going in ready to battle.

[Ashley] The first duo battling
to go straight through to the semifinal,

That was insane.

the stage on fire, didn't it?

How do you feel?

Okay, first off, I'm going to be
very honest right here, okay?

I was a little scared because one thing
that Grummy really excels in is character,

and Flame, we've had issue with that.

I was like, "Okay, is Flame
going to be able to come up

to the level of Grummy?"

And I have to say, you did not disappoint.

-[Ne-Yo] Thank you so much.
-Yeah.

[Grummy] Let's go.

[Ne-Yo] The character was there,
the technicality was there,

the difficulty was there.

Quality work, guys. Quality work.

[audience applauding]

For me, there were moments
that I think it lost momentum.

[Ashley Banjo] Like, towards the end,
I think the end you started to dip

because it's such a physical routine.

But I feel this is the most technical
in terms of tricks

-and musicality that we've seen.
-[Flame] Thank you.

And, Grummy,
you've always had tons of personality

and you brought that out of Flame.

So Grummy's doing "Flame" and then,
like, Flame's doing the "Grummy mummy",

like, you understood the assignment,
and I rated it so well done.

Yay, all right.

So, I just want to say
that you guys make such a good team.

Grummy, you are amazing.
Flame, you leveled up incredibly.

You had fun doing this.
Overall, I was very entertained.

This was brilliant.

Put your hands together
for Flame and Grummy, everyone.

-[Ashley Banjo] Yeah!
-[Ne-Yo] Yeah!

[audience cheering, applauding]

Obviously, Grummy's always been dope,
but to see Flame go to the point where...

I... listen, I thought Grummy
was just going to outshine her, like...

-I did.
-[Lele] Yeah.

And his personality was gonna be
too big, but she stepped up to the mark...

She had moments where she was,
like, walking...

-[Ashley Banjo] Yeah.
-...like, you know like, had attitude.

You pushed me, I pushed you,
and we pushed against each other.

-Yeah. Yes.
-And we both rose to the challenge.

[Hammer] Have you guys been
rehearsing hard?

-Yeah.
-Yeah?

-What has it been like?
-It's been intense.

It's so fun though, doing it together.

We realize that we have so much in common.

We go together, like...

well, marshmallows and candy.

You guys are for sure
the sweetest of the monsters.

Oh, you guys are like,
meant to be partners.

-I mean, look at us.
-We're sweet, but don't be fooled.

Who's ready for two more monsters?

[Ashley] It's Marsha and Candy.

So let's just do this.

[Lele] Candy and Marsha.

That's a really sweet combination.

[Ne-Yo] But they're polar opposites.

[Ashley Banjo] Yeah, Candy is
a very technical dancer

so she needs to teach Marsha
some new styles

and push her competitive side.

I feel like Marsha's a bit more fun.

[Lele] Yeah, she needs to bring out
the fun in Candy.

-I can't wait to see this.
-Me neither, man.

For Marsha,
we've seen her do jazz, jazz, jazz,

but I'm learning so much from Candy

and this routine, there's hip-hop,
there's popping, there's jazz,

there's technique,
there's a little bit of salsa

-towards the end.
-Yeah.

-Look.
-And coming to you.

You're going to see us have a lot of fun.

[upbeat music]

Which is something that I've not been able
to project out yet,

but Marsha brings to the table.

To collaborate on our technique,

and what we're trying
to portray in this piece

has been a remarkable growth process.

[both] Throw.

I think the biggest thing for us
this time in our routine,

we have two gigantic chairs
and a really long banquet table.

[Marsha] We're on a table,
we've got to make sure that

we're very aware of where we are.

It's a challenge to not only get up,
get down, move around, navigate,

but do it at the same time and cohesively.

We could fall off that in two seconds.



that we are not just made of sweetness,

that we are here to compete
and here to win.

We wouldn't be at this point
in the competition

if we were not driven and competitive.

Do we both want to be the last person
standing at the end? Of course.

[Marsha] But right now, we're focused
on getting to the next level together.

We're ready to kick some major butt.

Let's do this.

of your little sweet duet.

You guys are walking cavities.
Goodness gracious.

Is there a dentist in the house?

All right, so, I enjoyed this performance.

I did feel like, you know,

two best friends dancing,
having a great time.

Here's the thing,
there were bits and pieces

where the chemistry
was lacking a little bit.

[Ne-Yo] It didn't feel like
a group dancing,

it felt like two individuals
dancing together.

-Okay, yeah.
-Lele, what were you thinking?

[Lele] I think you guys are
amazing dancers.

And you guys had fun,

I mean,
it's really hard to dance on a table.

However, I wanted more complex movements.

I expected a little bit more.

Okay.

It's really nice to see you guys
move in new ways.

There's some technique hiding in there,
outside of the groove, in the footwork,

which was really nice to see.

But, almost the first piece
of choreography you did on the chairs,

you guys were out of sync.

That's the difficult part
about working in a duo.

Sometimes it works
and sometimes it doesn't.

[Ashley Banjo] It doesn't take away
from the fact

-that you guys are great dancers...
-[Lele] Yeah.

...because it's impossible
to not enjoy you guys.

-Okay.
-Yeah.

[Ashley] Have they done enough
to get through to that semifinal?

for Marsha and Candy, everyone.

[Ashley Banjo] Well done, guys.

I got to say, I'm a little disappointed.

You're right, man, they didn't gel,

and that is part of this week's challenge,

-like, how you work as a team.

Has anyone started dreaming
about monsters?

I'll have a whole day
of rehearsals with Jam,

Even I think

the energy of youth,

and on a good week,
could win this competition.

[Ne-Yo] Jam has many years of experience,

but just from a skill level,
it's like this.

[Ashley Banjo] They both need a bit
of what the other has,

to give us an amazing dance
that's in synch.

I think that they could create
a really fun piece, you know?

-[Jam] I'm ready.

How cool is it
that we get to dance together?

[Jam] So exciting.

Not once did I think
this would be the combination...

-Yeah.
-...but it makes so much sense.

[Jam] When you think of an 18-year-old
dancing with a 31-year-old,

it's like, "Ah! How would that be?"

But our chemistry and our energy
is really what's going to set us apart.

They wanted me to show more
and, you know, you're a top contender

and it's time to show that,
you know, I am too.

This week for sure,

-the difficulty, just has to go up.
-Oh, it just has to go up.

With this routine,
we're on this treasure island,

we think we're alone,
we realize someone else is there,

we're kind of competitive, then we realize

we have to come together
to get through this.

It is literally a metaphor

-for this competition right now.
-Literally.

and I did get it.

that can actually see stuff.

Chester can teach Beti emotion,

and Beti can show Chester
how to bring the entertainment factor.

[Beti] As soon as we found out
that the panel was pairing us together,

it was just immediate excitement,

it was like,
"Bro, we're in this together."

[Chester] This week,
we're doing contemporary so...

-Yes.
-[Chester] You know, we're having

a lot of fun but we are

-very different styles.
-Yeah.

I'm a hard-core contemporary dancer,
and Beti over here is hip-hop.

[both laugh]

-Ah, sh**t.
-Ah, come on, here.

It's a pique on the supporting leg,

you've got to keep it nice and straight.

Contemporary was always
a bit intimidating for me,

especially technically,
but having him right next to me,

to be able to, like,
help me through a lot of it,

has been incredible.

[Chester] Ready? Let's do it together.

I love the fact that he'll push me up.

The more confidence you have,
the better it will be.

In rehearsals,
he acts likes a quarterback, like,

he'll come up and be like, "All right,
just stay in it, be connected," and like,

my immediate response is,
"All right, coach."

-[chuckles]
-I'm like, "All right, cool."

The way that we connect in this dance

is extremely important,
it certainly is to us.

We both come from a background
of being the only guys in dance

and, you know, being made fun of, bullied...

Finding someone that's had
that similar journey, it's been awesome.

I think that the audience
will be able to connect with that.

Chester, Beti, it's your turn, y'all.
