01x07 - Disco

Post by bunniefuu »

Once a year,
the worthy are tested.

Ready?

Only the bravest will put
their reputations on the line.

This year
is Joe Connolly's year.

Go!

Finished! Aaaahh!

How did you do that?
I'm not even halfway through.

Another year, another defeat
but next time will be different.

Next year he would focus like--

School disco in one week?!

Ooooooh.

Previous school discos
have consisted of crisps,

fizzy drinks
and plenty of knee slides.

But this year
would be very different.

This is secondary school.

The day is finally upon them.

The wait for their first
secondary school disco is over.

- Meet at mine later?
- They're pouring fresh cement.

- I need to go write my name!
- Uh.

Joe! Cherise says
her cousin said

Poppy Atkins' mate Jolanda said

Daisy Adeyemi wants to slow
dance with you at the disco.

- Me?!
- Yeah.

But only if Yotam Abu,
Aaron Keedwell,

and Hitesh all say no.

Slow dance.

Joe will dance
and he will dance slowly.

The disco will be unlike
anything he has seen before.

With endless possibilities.

There, he will see Daisy...

..for a night of utter magic.

All just one hour away.

- Have fun!
- Thanks Dad!

- Thanks for the lift!
- Thanks, Joe's dad!

As Joe steps into the unknown,

he can now see
everything has changed.

Are you ready to party?

Discos will never
be the same again.

Joe's days
of knee slides are over.

What up! O'Malley Year 7?

Joe Connolly has arrived.

There she is in front of him,
Daisy Adeyemi.

Sings in the school choir,
owner of a furry pencil case,

and last month she told Joe

the answer in English.

Simile.

Tonight, she and Joe
would slow dance.

Nothing in the world
could st--

Joe! Look! Woohoo!

Daisy. Knee slides.

- Frisbo.
- Your turn!

He now sees his best friend
for who he truly is.

- Oh no.
- Joe Connolly has a big problem.

A problem that'll stay with Joe
for the rest of his life.

Do you, Daisy Adeyemi
take Joe Connolly to be--

[ Joe, look! Woohoo!

- I don't!
- Um.

When Joe fights for the survival

of a rare species of panda,
it will remain.

Wooooohooooo!

And in the future

when Joe embraces
a life of espionage

and becomes a secret agent,

the very security of the nation
would be under threat.

[ Joe, look!
Woohooo!

Something must be done.

See? The floors
ARE slippier out here.

I guess, but we're
not even in the disco.

We're next to the bogs.

Trust me.

OK, let's check.

Wooooohooooo!
This IS really slippy!

With every distant beat,

Joe is reminded of what
he's missing and what could be.

- Aren't you coming, Joe?
- I can't really.

Mum doesn't want me
to ruin my trousers.

- What?!
- And I've a punctured toenail.

Punctured toenail?!

What if stuff like all my change
falls out of my pockets?

Come on mate,
it's just a knee slide!

But...

Frisbo is right,
it's just a knee slide.

[ Joe Connolly.

Hitesh.

Hitesh.
He scored one per cent higher

than Joe in Maths,
is almost half an inch taller,

and according to the graffiti in
the PE toilets, Hitesh woz here.

Last week in art, Hitesh
took the last orange felt tip

causing Joe's tiger to be green.

And Hitesh is on Daisy's list.

Joe.

Hitesh.

- What are you doing here?
- Wooohooo!

Erm, nothing much.

It's cray-cray
in there, you know?

Everyone's slow dancing.

- Everyone?
- Everyone.

Um... what about... um...

..Daisy?

Not yet...

..but it's
only a matter of time.

You two enjoy
your skidding though.

Wohooo! Ow!

For Joe Connolly,
it is now or never.

Not... this time... Hitesh.

Joe, why aren't you skidding?

Um, I'm gonna get a drink.
I'll get you one.

- Can I come?
- No! You stay here!

Oh!

Okay.

- Do you fancy Laura Hubbert?
- Yeah.

Do you want to
slow dance with her?

Yeah, alright.

Joe Connolly has arrived.

Here's a slow one
for all you lovebirds!

The stars are aligning.

Every moment in his life
has led to this one.

He is exactly
where he's meant to be.

Daisy.

Daisy!

Together at last.
All that is left to do

is ask one question.

Will you dance with me?

What?!

One simple--

Would you like to dance with me?

Erm...

No.

Sorry everyone!

I haven't done this in a while!

Joe Connolly
has hit rock bottom.

All he can do now is text
his dad to pick him up early.

I can see my breath.

Me too.

I'm Lily.

Lily Scott.

Exactly 36 days ago,
she sent Joe a note.

She sits at the back
of maths class.

X minus 1.

[ Good try but it's actually--
- What?!

Is fiercely competitive
with equations.

And has a bizarre
fascination with...

..classroom ceilings.

There are a million things
Joe could say.

Each one carrying
its own risks and hopes.

For a moment Joe is frozen

by the sheer number
of possibilities.

Then suddenly,
he finds the perfect words.

- I'm Joe.
- Oh, I know.

I love this song.

As Joe hears the music,
he wonders.

Perhaps this is
his special night after all,

and he knows what to ask.

Do you...

Do you like skidding?

This is your final song, Year 7.

[ Wooooo!
[ That was AMAZING!

Woohoo!

Woohoo!
