Luis, it's up to you now.
Who should leave our competition,
Sugar Rush: The Baking Point?
My vote is for…
Alan and Ale.
It's a shock
to be the first team sent home.
CHOCOLATIER AND BAKER
Thanks for believing in me.
You're more than just my teacher.
You're my friend.
We'll come out of this stronger.
-Bye, everyone.
-Bye.
We started off with six teams,
but now only five remain.
This is the time they've saved
to compete in the finale,
if they make it there.
Let's move on.
Today, our bakers will have
to work their magic on leftovers
and the most disastrous cakes ever
to impress the judges.
Today's guest judge, Ludwika Paleta,
is just as sweet as our sugary treats.
Gris is explaining to our bakers
what this first round is about.
The theme is recycling.
But she's also reminding them
that at the end of this round,
the bottom two teams will lose
30 minutes from their remaining time
to bake their cake.
Hurry!
And that sound means
the sweetest race has just begun.
Come with me.
-Hi there.
-Hi.
ONLINE FRIENDS
We're starting off this episode
pretty shaken
because we were up for elimination.
-Lis, Luli.
-Hi.
Dany, Ana Lau.
-The team to beat is Iván and Israel.
-Iván and Israel.
-Israel, Iván.
-What's up?
-Karen, Gaby.
-All good.
Gris, Luis. Nice to see you.
Ludwika Paleta,
it's an honor to have you with us.
Thanks for inviting me.
I'm thrilled to be here.
We've done our research, and we know
that when it comes to desserts,
you have high standards.
-Is that right?
-It is.
-So get ready.
-I'm all set.
Gris, please explain the challenges
they're facing in this first round.
Similar to how we recycle clothing
for fashion,
they'll have to recycle
leftovers from the pantry
and turn them into delicious cupcakes.
-They all have the same stuff?
-Exactly.
We see the box for the first challenge…
ONLINE FRIENDS
No. What is this?
-Things we'd never use.
-Yep.
There's papaya with yogurt.
Who likes papaya?
I like papaya,
but not like that, for dessert.
Gelatin desserts.
Carrot juice, right?
I can't even tell.
It smells like the fridge.
Fried plantains.
Some toast. Oh no.
-Some cookies…
-Piloncillo cookies.
-It smells like…
-Green juice.
The worst is a dry cake slice
from the grocery store.
FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES
Definitely not the gelatin.
Bye, papaya.
They're not very happy
with the ingredients.
We have to use the cookie.
We don't know
how to use it to make a cupcake.
ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 1: CUPCAKE
How about the plantain?
RECYCLE ELEMENTS FROM A MYSTERY BOX
I've played the drums since I was 13.
I spent my teenage years
focusing on music,
and then I switched over
to cooking and baking.
We're gonna make a cupcake
with a vanilla base.
I went to culinary school,
but all we made were savory foods.
We deboned quails and made fish broth
and things that really aren't my style.
-Look how pretty it is.
-I'm weighing the ingredients.
We can use it to decorate.
In the end,
I didn't finish culinary school,
but now I make custom cakes.
ROUND 1
What are we making, Lu?
A carrot cupcake.
MOTHER AND DAUGHTER
We want to finish
the first challenge quickly
so we can spend more time
working on our cake.
We're not gonna stress out.
What else?
We'll make a tortilla cake
with papaya frosting.
Ludwika, what's
your least favorite ingredient?
I'd say papaya.
-We'll cook the papaya.
-Right.
It's gonna be tough for them
because they're using lots of papayas.
Green juice cupcakes
with papaya curd and carrot in the center.
I've been an actress since I was little.
Everyone in my family cooks,
especially my grandmother, Nati.
Oh my God.
What I enjoy most about baking is
showing my love through cooking.
It gives me a chance
to treat the people I care about.
I'll put this in the immersion blender.
I was destined to become a baker.
It's allowed me to meet people
and create really strong friendships.
Wanna taste it?
No. I trust you completely.
We met just over a year ago.
I followed her on social media
because I loved her content.
When we met, we had great chemistry.
And we have a lot in common too.
-How are the other teams doing?
-No one's baking yet.
Really?
Time could be an issue,
but not just for us.
-These have flour already.
-Six.
What if I add butter to make them crispy?
I'm feeling the pressure.
I'm not too sure about the ingredients.
-I'm going to the oven.
-We need a tray.
-Dany.
-What?
I got a problem.
It's too cold in here.
It's ruining the white chocolate.
The chocolate's cooling.
We don't know
if the cupcakes will rise or collapse.
Bakers!
ROUND 1
-Half an hour has gone by.
-Thanks.
Okay.
We're on track.
Remember to save some time for the finale.
If you get there, of course.
Thanks, bakers.
No, listen. Did you add all the milk?
-What milk?
-There's no milk in this?
Never mind. I trust you.
I'm praying they come out nice.
The bottom two teams in this round,
cupcakes and creations,
will lose half an hour
from their cake prep time.
Oh no!
Are we good on time?
Nothing's ready yet,
but we've made progress.
Let's take them out of the oven.
-You're filling them?
-Yup.
I need you to hurry. Don't screw up.
Looks good, right?
It's really fluffy.
Like it?
-Yummy
-Nice.
Ready. They don't have filling,
but they have this.
Right. And crumbs.
Lis and Luli are in the lead.
They're way ahead of the other teams.
This competition has taken a turn.
-They're all ready.
-Let's start the dessert.
ROUND 1
-Lis and Luli are done.
-That's what I was gonna say.
They already finished their cupcakes.
But remember, they can't buzz in
until they finish their second challenge.
Luis, what do they have to do?
They have to create something
with the ingredients in the mystery box.
-The theme is still recycling.
-Okay.
They've got popcorn,
tamarind candy, and cream gorditas.
-Cheese?
-Pineapple pie.
-Cherries.
-Popcorn.
-Banana.
-And a banana.
They'll have to get really creative
to make a winning creation.
ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS
-We'll use them cold?
-Yeah.
-You can warm them up if you want.
-No, it's fine.
We want to use
the cream gorditas as a base
and the pineapple as pie filling.
We'll decorate it
with a cherry and glitter.
It's not thickening.
-I added the cream.
-It has to be the cream.
We can add butter.
Are you serious?
We were just starting to bounce back,
and then this happens.
Add a lot of fried plantains.
Because Chef Luis likes it crunchy.
Luis makes me a bit nervous
because it feels like
he's watching everything we do.
I hope we don't disappoint him.
-Ready, Gaby. It's done.
-Already? Great.
Add more.
Finally, man. You're using both hands.
Ready.
You can waste time later. Don't worry.
Nice job.
Three teams have finished their cupcakes.
Maybe we can just make
a quick white chocolate buttercream.
Ruth and Rubí are falling behind.
Fine. It's all good.
You made the cream.
-The cream was the problem, not me.
-Yeah.
Now I'm stressed. They have me worried.
This is cream cheese.
ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS
-Cream gorditas.
-Look.
-Exactly what almost ruined our challenge.
-That would've saved us.
We tried to make cream gorditas
with an apple crumble.
I expected something more polished.
It's like fate is laughing at us,
giving us cream gorditas again.
-We have to reheat them. They're hard.
-Okay.
ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS
This is for the dessert.
When you think of recycling,
what comes to mind?
Paper. A crumpled piece of paper.
It looks like trash
but we hope it will taste heavenly.
When you don't know
what kind of cream it is,
it's impossible to know
how much fat is in it.
Our plan B is to make carrot buttercream.
Ana Lau, check out these cookies.
They have to look like a milkshake, right?
And they're ready.
-Done. Cupcakes finished.
-Done.
ROUND 1
My God. This is so stressful.
They're ready.
Dany and Ana Lau's strategy
is to celebrate loudly
to psych out the other teams.
ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2
Tell me what you're looking at.
A piloncillo cookie.
It's so exciting to be here.
It's also kind of a surreal experience,
given all I had to figure out
with my two kids.
You never let obstacles get in your way.
-We need two more mixing bowls.
-Okay.
We have something in common. Our school.
CULINARY EDUCATION CENTER
I was lucky. From an early age,
I knew that I loved sugar.
I saw a beautifully decorated cake once.
I tried it and just went,
"I wanna do this for a living."
-I'll heat it up, Ruth.
-Okay.
So, Ruth and Rubí…
Everyone else has finished their cupcakes,
and Ruth and Rubí
are still moistening theirs.
I don't even know
if the cupcakes are cool enough.
They might get all mushy.
Mushy doesn't sound good.
Start over here.
All right?
Bakers, remember, the two teams
that fail to impress the judges
will lose half an hour
from the next challenge.
ROUND 1
Let's move on.
ROUND 1
CHALLENGE 2: CREATIONS
-I'll go grab the other…
-Yeah, the other box.
-All the pressure.
-Yeah.
Everyone else is further along.
We're running around
like headless chickens.
We can make panela cheese panna cotta
with papaya cream.
-The mini sphere?
-I'd have to freeze it first.
No. I won't have time,
but I can put it in.
-Nothing crunchy?
-That's right.
Lis and Luli went for a simple recipe
in the first challenge to finish faster
and not run into any issues with time.
I mean, it's fine to save time.
But what if it isn't any good
because it was rushed?
-That's the issue.
-Exactly.
It's not thickening.
Our cream isn't thickening.
-Add a bit more sugar.
-It has to thicken.
The curse of the gorditas.
Let's plate.
And, dare I say…
Run, Lis. Run.
…right now, they're gonna
buzz in!
Lis and Luli just buzzed in!
We did it.
TIME REMAINING
The fact that they finished first
does put some pressure on us.
Lis and Luli.
-Now with a new attitude.
-Yep.
Please tell us about your cupcake first.
It's a carrot cupcake.
The frosting is whipped cream
with a bit of yogurt.
But we tried to balance everything.
We made the crumble
from the piloncillo cookies.
It has a good texture to it.
It's crunchy, and the cupcake is soft,
but it needed a little more carrot flavor.
I liked the carrot cupcake
because it's not too sweet.
But the frosting was.
Tell us about your creation.
We had cream gorditas,
and Luli made pineapple frosting
with… panela cheese?
Yes, panela cheese.
-We added wafer bits.
-With amaranth seeds.
-And a cherry.
-A cherry.
I would've preferred
if you hadn't used the gordita as it was,
but I loved the frosting.
Great combination.
-Glad you liked it.
-Well done.
I really loved the frosting.
It tasted great.
But the gordita was too dry.
I didn't want to keep eating it.
We got carried away and rushed through it.
We could've put more thought into it.
Try to keep it balanced.
Keep it balanced.
Good. The other teams are about to finish.
What you're doing looks awesome.
The mamey fruit mousse is almost ready.
Ready?
ROUND 1
Nice work. Again.
TIME REMAINING
It feels like they're all finishing.
Iván and Israel are all finished.
Tell us about it.
First, your cupcake.
Our cupcake is made
with a bit of orange juice.
We used a papaya cream filling.
Ludwika, what's
your least favorite ingredient?
I'd say papaya.
Whipped white chocolate cream
with a touch of banana.
-The soil is made from…
-Piloncillo cookies.
Since the theme is recycling,
we added soil and a chocolate leaf.
So cute.
You mentioned recycling.
Why didn't you recycle the filling?
Oof.
I would've baked the filling
and used it as the crumbs.
-To go with the theme of recycling.
-Is this papaya filling?
I said I wouldn't like it, but I do.
-Thanks.
-Thank you.
We won over Ludwika's taste buds.
Tell us about your creation.
When we think of recycling,
the first thing that comes to mind
is a crumpled piece of paper, right?
We wanted to showcase that concept
with the crumpled sheet on top,
a pineapple whipped cream,
and what is basically
a cream gordita cake.
-With a bit of cherry liqueur.
-The cream gordita cake is really dry.
Maybe some toppings
could've been used to moisten it.
That would've made it great.
If they had tasted it the way it was,
they would've applauded what we did.
I love the paper.
It's so original.
Everything's really creative. Nice job.
Thanks.
-Oh no, Rubí.
-What?
They're breaking.
This will be the crumble.
We're going with plan B for everything,
and nothing is turning out
the way we wanted.
-Okay. Let's go.
-Done.
Buzz in.
ROUND 1
Let's get that million.
TIME REMAINING
The second someone buzzes in,
everything gets instantly harder.
-Let's see.
-I'll turn it off.
-It's a little curdled.
-It's because of this cheese.
-Better to risk delivering it now and…
-Go on.
Go ahead, Gaby.
The stress and anxiety
are taking a toll on us.
The button! Go!
ROUND 1
There.
TIME REMAINING
How are the two best friends doing?
-Good.
-Good.
Tell us what you made with that box
that gave you such a headache.
Our inspiration was a milkshake.
We made a white chocolate cupcake
and used whipped ganache as filling,
so it was really soft and creamy.
The topping…
Meringue with buttercream
like in a milkshake.
That's right.
This one's so pretty.
I love the idea. Totally creative.
But I felt like the cream tasted
a lot like whipped cream.
I loved the presentation.
I agree.
It tastes a lot like vegetable oil.
So it was a bit too much for me.
Ludwika, I swear this doesn't have
one drop of lard. I swear.
What's this creation?
We used a piloncillo cookie
to make the crumbs.
It's piloncillo with a pinch of salt.
We made a mamey fruit mousse.
And we mixed it with cream
and gelatin to stabilize it.
We created a dessert
that could be served in a restaurant.
When you mix everything,
it works really well.
You've got one bite to win.
And this works for me.
This bite.
I thought there'd be more mousse,
but it's good.
I love mamey.
And it looks great.
-Thanks.
-Thanks.
-A woman who bakes…
-Is twice as sweet!
-It needs time.
-A lot?
I'm worried about the panna cotta.
It hasn't set yet.
I don't know if we should just wait.
It's the key element of the dessert,
so it has to be ready.
Karen and Gaby, please tell us
what's inside this little cupcake.
We decided to go with piloncillo
with plantain
and an Italian meringue frosting
with banana on top.
-It's too sweet.
-Okay.
No!
Instead of meringue, you could've used
something… with a little more contrast.
Okay.
Visually, I think
it's one of my favorites.
I don't like Italian meringue.
I find it sticky and too sweet.
And flavorless, but that's just me.
Tell us about your creation, please.
We wanted to redeem ourselves
with the cream gordita
and make a sort of caramelized banana
with the popcorn.
The frosting on top has cheese
with an amaranth wafer as garnish.
I loved how you used the popcorn.
The crunchiness was great.
Okay.
We've already tried three cream gorditas,
and we didn't really want a fourth.
-Another dry gordita.
-But this one stood out.
-Because this one…
-We soaked it in butter.
You soaked it in butter,
so it's flavorful.
-Thank you.
-Thank you.
We've tried almost everything.
What's worrying is that one team
is still assembling their creations.
Ruth and Rubí.
We have to present something.
Yeah, we just…
There's a paring knife there.
-There, right?
-Yeah.
-Here.
-Let's test it.
Give me a second.
They're trying to make something
that takes a lot longer
than they've got time for.
-Yeah.
-Don't make me nervous.
Come on, Ruth.
Either they'll get stuck,
or they won't be fully set
when we remove them,
and they'll fall apart on the plate.
They're going to lose 30 minutes.
It came out perfectly. A perfect sphere.
Give it a pretty decoration.
-Come on.
-Let's go.
ROUND 1
Done.
They're finally done!
TIME REMAINING
Ruth and Rubí, tell us about your cupcake.
This is a green juice cupcake.
-And inside, we have…
-Carrot.
And on top, a crumble made of…
-Made of almonds, banana, and…
-Popcorn.
And oats.
I think you paid attention
to our previous feedback
because it looks fantastic.
-The cake is slightly too…
-Moist.
Yeah, too moist. A bit mushy.
My God!
The green juice flavor was surprising.
It's pretty good.
For our creation, we have panna cotta,
made from panela cheese and papaya.
-With a tamarind and cherry syrup core.
-Right, cherry.
It has a crunchy meringue.
It's like a dacquoise.
It has a tamarind and cherry sauce.
-And maraschino cherry jelly on top.
-With cherry.
I loved that the panna cotta
wasn't gelatinous.
I would've liked the crumble
to be a bit crunchier,
so it wouldn't clash
with the texture of the panna cotta.
-What's this called?
-Dacquoise.
It's great.
And I loved the surprise filling.
-Congratulations.
-Thank you.
Bakers, the judges
have made their decision.
The winners of this first round are…
Ruth and Rubí!
-Awesome!
-Our dessert was the favorite!
And now, the hard part.
The first team to lose 30 minutes is…
Dany and Ana Lau.
It was a really tough challenge.
We had almost no ingredients.
ROUND 1
No way.
Half an hour is a lot of time to lose.
The second team to lose 30 minutes
from the cake round is…
Lis and Luli.
ROUND 1
We have to work on our strategy
if we want to get to the finale.
Bakers, it's time for the second round.
As you can see, you've got
some works of art at your stations.
Ludwika will explain
what's about to happen.
Each team has
a truly awful cake on their table.
And believe me,
if it's awful on the outside,
it's awful on the inside as well.
For this last round,
the bakers will have to breathe new life
into their awful cakes.
It looks destroyed.
The filling is spilling out.
You don't just have to fix the flavor.
You have to improve it
so it can become what it was meant to be,
a perfect cake.
We'll have to evaluate the flavor, so…
-Sorry--
-You'll have to try it.
No, I'm just the host.
Judges, I'm really sorry.
You'll also have to try these cakes
just the way they are now,
so you can compare them and see
how much the flavor changed. Okay?
-I bet they've been in a fridge for days.
-Ten days at least.
Of course, before we start,
we have to check your remaining time.
Iván and Israel, you're leading
with 4 hours, 26 minutes and 36 seconds.
While Ruth and Rubí,
you'll be the last to start
with 3 hours, 37 minutes and 37 seconds.
I recommend you don't spend
all your time on the cake,
and instead, save at least a bit of time
to compete in the finale.
If you get there, of course.
Right.
Israel, Iván,
get to your mixers.
Your time starts now!
ROUND 2
CAKES
Okay.
I would've liked to get the van.
This is what I wanted to see.
-How could they do this?
-Iván's face…
This challenge and this cake
definitely don't work for us.
No, it's super black.
It's chocolate with black food dye.
They completely took it apart.
I want to see how it looks on the inside.
Can't we at least touch it and see?
I'll start working on it.
We chose chocolate cake,
mango compote, and cookies, right?
Something crunchy for contrast.
We'll make a moving minibus.
With headlights, sounds,
and some good cumbia music.
And a special structure
to make room for the wheels.
Lis, Luli, get to your mixers.
Your time starts now!
ROUND 2
-Let's see.
-We have to know what it's made of first.
It has barely any filling.
It's really greasy.
We'd never deliver
a cake like this to a customer.
We need a plan.
Last time we rushed,
and look what happened.
The shape worries me.
It's got a lot of volume.
I want to taste it.
Carve it so it looks something like this.
It could be vanilla.
UNICORN CAKE CHALLENGE
I'll make a buttercream filling
and add walnuts.
Let's go, Gaby.
Karen and Gaby, to your mixers!
Your time starts now!
ROUND 2
I don't know what we can salvage.
It's too moist. I'm a little concerned.
It's the most sickeningly sweet cake
I've ever tasted.
-The cake will be…
-Chocolate?
We could add some peanuts.
Vanilla.
We could make something a bit unusual.
We're gonna make a zombie foot.
I'm listening to Karen,
and she's dead set
on making a zombie foot.
-No way.
-That'd start them off on the right foot.
Yeah.
I'd like to add detail. Something like…
-A bone.
-Like a bone. Right.
I love the horror theme.
I know Gaby doesn't, but…
I'll also add my own personal touch.
The ugly cake has a flip-flop and flowers,
so we'll have to replicate that too.
It does look like a minibus.
You look at it,
and you can just hear the cumbia music.
It's culture.
Ruth and Rubí
must be itching to get to work.
ROUND 2
Cake's in the oven.
-It looks like they're way ahead.
-By a lot.
It's really mushy on the inside.
-Really?
-And it could…
-Collapse?
-It could be dangerous. Exactly.
-Karen, having a good time?
-It's therapeutic.
I bet.
What is this? It's shortening.
STARTING IN
The ring isn't made of fondant. It's like…
Cream, right?
It's tougher to repair something.
We'll salvage the frosting and cake
to make cake pops and assemble the legs.
Let's bake the top part. The ankle.
And we'll use a portion of the cake.
We'll blend it and turn it into jelly
so we can add it to the new cake.
How's it going, Iván?
Good. About to finish this part.
Done. I'll start with the fondant.
Dany and Ana Lau, to your mixers.
Your time starts now!
-Come on!
-Let's try it first.
Look…
Look at the hair.
One of her curls fell off.
The cake's dry.
-I think it's dry. You?
-It's awful.
This cake tastes like medicine.
The worst kind.
We think a woman wrestler
represents us more.
We can play with her outfit
and add a ton of glitter.
Bling-bling's my thing.
Let's do banana bread
with a semisweet ganache.
-Cool.
-And we'll use a bit of that cake.
-Ruth, Rubí, Yatziri.
-Capi.
-What did you call her?
-Yatziri.
-Yatziri.
-Yatziri.
-To your mixers. Your time starts now!
-Go!
This is the cut.
-Okay.
-I'll miss you, Yatziri.
Come on.
-Let's see.
-There's cream in the center.
It tastes like coffee
or chocolate or mocha.
So we thought about making a coffee cake.
QUINCEAÑERA CAKE CHALLENGE
With milk chocolate cream.
And piquín pepper.
It'll definitely be an improvement.
Ruth, I'm gonna behead her now.
Ruth and Rubí's cake is scaring me.
-Cut it already.
-This is worse than The Exorcist.
Is it gonna be chocolate?
What if you make chocolate ganache
and add a bit of Irish cream and coffee?
You can make buttercream
if you want, but add cocoa.
Or… I don't know.
Make up your mind, honey.
I just don't know.
Sometimes it's hard to agree.
Especially when we're running out of time.
Do you want Irish cream frosting
or Irish cream buttercream?
With chocolate?
Okay. Choose whatever you want.
-Don't ask me.
-You change your mind every five minutes.
Exactly. So you choose.
I don't know right now.
Mother and daughter.
People always argue with their moms.
It's a fact.
It makes me really mad
when people change their minds
and won't let me move forward.
-What do you think is best?
-I'll make the Irish cream.
We have to make a choice and work fast.
Iván.
You're suddenly very quiet.
-Don't distract him.
-He's so focused.
I'll finish in an hour and go bother you.
How about that?
Ruth, did you add the pepper?
It needs more.
-Want me to taste it?
-I can't feel the pepper.
I'm becoming Mexican.
How's it going, Lu?
Good.
She hates me.
Bakers, you have two hours left
to breathe new life into those cakes.
The team who fails to impress the judges
will have to leave
Sugar Rush: The Baking Point
and will miss out on the chance
to win one million pesos.
Jesus.
This is a competition,
and we're all doing our best to win.
-What color should the eyes be?
-Blue, like Ludwika's?
-Hi, ladies. How's it coming along?
-Hi.
It smells nice.
Like cardamom. What is that?
-Right!
-Right!
How can you smell it?
-We don't invite just any judge.
-We'll win over your taste buds.
We want to know what you're doing,
because the clock is ticking,
and it looks like you're a bit behind.
We'll catch up.
We just need to airbrush it.
We got the worst cake because…
-It's a square.
-Making squares is really complicated.
And time is not on our side
because we lost half an hour.
Keep going and hurry up.
-Thanks.
-I like that she's wearing a mask.
-Right.
-Good luck. The clock is ticking.
-Come on.
-I know!
Thanks!
-How are you feeling?
-Good.
I just need two more walls.
This one and another one.
Are you trying to pressure me?
-No.
-Good.
There's some tension growing.
I'm a bit tired now.
The fondant layers are huge.
Thickness-wise, they need to be the same,
and I can't keep up. I'm tired.
I've got nothing left.
Fifty minutes.
ROUND 2
Jesus.
The only good thing
is that no one is done yet.
-Let's watch you when someone buzzes in.
-Shut up.
-The other way around. That's the chest.
-Okay.
Okay. Help me.
-Go.
-Yikes.
Sorry.
Why is Dany doing pest control right now?
Give me a stick. It's gonna sink.
-One of the--
-What kind of stick?
I don't know. It's sinking.
-They have to be perfect.
-Yeah.
I'm stressed right now,
but I know we'll make it.
Bakers, you've got less than 30 minutes,
and no one has finished yet.
This isn't going well at all.
I'm just so mad at the cake.
I've had it up to here
with this damn minibus.
-Oh God.
-Relax.
It's okay. We're about to finish.
ROUND 2
We're done!
Dany and Ana Lau just buzzed in.
That team is so fast!
TIME SAVED FOR THE FINAL
We're almost there, Gaby.
I'm adding red paint
so it looks like fresh blood.
Careful.
Almost there.
That's her specialty.
She's sweet but also dark.
Okay, done.
ROUND 2
We did it, Gaby.
TIME SAVED FOR THE FINAL
Lis!
ROUND 2
-One, two…
-Push it.
There.
TIME SAVED FOR THE FINAL
I feel relieved and proud
because the unicorn's looking pretty
and fluffy.
Let's carry it together.
ROUND 2
-Okay.
-Let's go.
That porcelain skin…
With lipo and all.
TIME SAVED FOR THE FINAL
-I think that's all we can do, right?
-Yeah.
I'm gonna cry.
-Should I stop?
-It's over.
I tried squinting, looking at it
from the side, but there's no way.
Careful.
-Come on.
-Right?
One, two, three.
ROUND 2
Two minutes.
The most frustrating part is,
we know we can make this cake incredible.
-But with this time limit…
-No way.
TIME SAVED FOR THE FINAL
Dany and Ana Lau.
Nice. What did you make?
What techniques did you use?
We wanted to highlight
how perfect Dany's wrestling ring is.
I saw you pouring your energy into it.
It was hard.
The only thing is that when you compare
the height of the ropes with her body,
the ring's a bit too tall.
It'd be up to here.
It's really cool. I love it.
I love the glitter.
I can see it even in your hair.
The doll is great.
-Thanks.
-Thanks.
-Karen and Gaby.
-Hi.
You got a foot-shaped cake
and transformed it into this.
Tell us about your idea and techniques.
We wanted to add a twist to the design
but giving it that ironic feminine touch.
I love the blood.
Details such as the shading.
The only thing is I can see fingerprints
where you worked the fondant.
I didn't expect much
from the flip-flop, to be honest.
When I saw it, I thought,
"Oh no. This is gonna be a disaster."
-And you turned it around.
-Thank you.
Well done, Gaby.
We can all agree that this thing
we're looking at, makes us go…
Tell us what it was originally
and what you did.
We removed everything that was ruined
and turned it into cake pops.
Then we baked and decorated.
I like the eye color.
It makes the unicorn's face pop.
You completely turned it around.
Well done.
-Thanks.
-Let's see how it tastes.
-Which is equally important.
-It is.
-But the exterior is lovely.
-Thanks.
Just look at Yatziri.
-Yatziri.
-I hardly recognize her.
We kept part of her head and neck.
I also used a bit of modeling chocolate
to shape the features.
We used a watercolor technique
to shade the hair.
The work you did is impressive,
given the time limit.
Congratulations. She's beautiful.
-Thanks.
-Thank you.
I would've added eyelashes.
-We made the eyes blue for you.
-She has your eyes.
They're blue, yeah!
Inspired by you.
Well, she's lovely. You did a great job.
She's even got earrings, but we'll see.
We'll see.
-We nailed it.
-Nailed it.
Israel and Iván.
Tell us what you did
in terms of aesthetics, please.
We wanted to make it longer and leaner,
so it looked more like a real minibus.
The good thing about this cake
is that it looks really smooth.
I can't see any seams, unlike some others.
However, it does seem to be
a bit out of proportion.
Those little wheels
can't hold up this huge truck.
And that rosary would be this big
if it was to scale.
Hold me. I'm getting dizzy.
In your defense, real-life buses are ugly.
They're so ugly.
Please cut us four big slices of this.
We'll be at the judges' table.
-All right.
-Thanks.
Dany, Ana Lau, bring your cake
to the judges' table, please.
We want to convince the judges
that we're real bakers.
But we don't know what will happen.
Basically.
In front of us is the old cake
Dany and Ana Lau had to work with.
Let's taste it.
Tell us what you think of the old cake.
-It's bad, right?
-I chipped a tooth.
It sticks to your teeth.
Please tell us what flavors you used
in the new cake.
We used the old cake
as a filling for the new one.
We made banana cake
and added cinnamon and nuts.
-And for the filling…
-We made ganache, and we also made…
Salted caramel
with a hint of cardamom as well.
Such a transformation.
I would've looked at that
and just said, "That's impossible."
But you did it.
What you didn't do is improve this one.
You made another one and used this one.
But it balances out
because of how good it is.
I think the flavor is great.
Let's cross our fingers
and hope we're the best.
I do feel nervous
because anything can happen,
but I'm confident in our work.
Up first is the old unicorn.
It tastes like all my birthdays,
which is bad.
A lot of work to do here, flavor-wise.
Tell us what you did.
We made a new vanilla cake.
We swapped the filling
for Irish cream and crunchy nuts.
I love how you saved the frosting.
It doesn't look like it's
from a recycled cake with awful frosting.
Definitely. It's amazing seeing it go
from this to this.
It's like day and night.
-Let's go.
-Let's go.
I hope the judges value flavor
more than decoration.
The old minibus was
a black chocolate cake.
ROUTE 100
Luis, what do you think of this cake?
-It smells weird.
-Sorry, I don't…
Take that away.
Tell us about this new creation.
What flavors do we have?
It's a brand-new chocolate cake.
We added a vanilla and passion fruit cream
and a mango compote
with a chocolate crumble.
We made the crumble
with dough and filling from the old cake,
which we processed and improved.
I love that you used this,
and here it tastes great.
Congratulations.
Again, you made a completely new cake.
You didn't improve the old one.
I would've done something different.
But the cake is tasty.
We can't go back in time.
What's done is done.
-We're going all the way.
-That's right.
Here's a slab of Styrofoam.
The cake Ruth and Rubí got.
And it smells like something unnatural.
Now, tell us which flavors
we have in this cake.
The cake is coffee-flavored
with a milk chocolate cream
and piquín pepper.
We deconstructed the whole cake,
dehydrated it, and made it into a crumble.
I hate to say it, but I love the crumble.
When you told us what it was,
I wanted to dislike it, but it's great.
I don't love it.
The pepper was a surprise.
I didn't expect it to be so prevalent.
I wanted something subtle, but I like it.
Chef Luis, with his expertise
as a chocolatier, scares me a bit.
-I was really generous with the pepper.
-Respect.
I think the cake was a success,
and it'll be our ticket
to staying in the competition.
First, the old flip-flop.
It looks kinda sad.
-It's getting to me.
-Yep.
-It's really getting to me.
-This is terrible.
-The worst.
-Tell us what you did. What is this?
We reinterpreted
the classic chocolate cake.
We made a softer, lighter cake,
and added a bit
of the old cake with jelly.
And we added peanuts for a bit of crunch.
No wonder I saw you blending that cake.
It was for this jelly, right?
How creative. Well done.
I'm like a broken record now,
but I feel like you could've improved this
instead of making a new cake.
Especially since you're so creative
when it comes to flavors.
I think we did a good job
with the time limit we had.
Bakers, the judges
have made their decision.
Let's start with the sweet part.
I don't want to jinx it,
but I think we're in the top three, right?
Yeah!
The team with the second-best cake,
who will win an extra 30 minutes, is
the team composed of
Karen and Gaby.
+ 30 MINUTES
-We won second place.
-And dodged a b*llet.
The top team in the cake round,
who will earn an extra hour,
is…
Ruth and Rubí.
+ 1 HOUR
The R&R team is back!
We're back.
The party's over, bakers.
In each episode, one team must leave.
And it's time to let you know
which two teams failed
to impress the judges.
The first team
is…
Dany and Ana Lau.
I don't know what's going on.
I really don't understand.
The other team in the bottom two,
along with Dany and Ana Lau,
who might lose their shot
at winning one million pesos is…
Did you see Luis? I don't wanna watch.
Israel and Iván.
We're even more nervous
that we're up against them.
Now then, it's time.
Flavor might be the thing
that could save us.
Judges, which team
should leave Sugar Rush: The Baking Point?
Israel and Iván's cake wasn't pretty,
and Ana Lau and Dany's cake
was the exact opposite.
It looked pretty on the outside,
but Israel and Iván's tasted better.
My vote goes to…
