02x03 - Band Aid/The Good Morning

Post by bunniefuu »

[Addy]Michael, have you seen Dad's old guitar?

Maybe check the hall closet.

I found it.

I always love how this smellswhen you first open it.

[both sniff, sigh]

It's like wood and dustand old-timey things.

-What do you need it for?-Maya and I are starting a band.

She's going to play drums,Asha's piano, and I'll play guitar.

Do you know how to play guitar?

No, but it's okay. No, but it's okay.

None of us know how to play anything, but we can all learn together.

Sounds like fun.

Oh, here's an instruction book.

I'm going outside to warm upbefore band practice.

I just made a D chord.

[guitar strumming continues]

How nice to see you playing an instrument,Addy.

My friends and I are starting a band.

Wonderful.

Practice is going to start any minute now,so I'm warming up.

I can't wait to hear all about it.

Bye, Stillwater.

[all giggle]

We can set up over here.

-[all giggle]-So, what now?

We come up with a name for our band.

Ooh. We're just learning. Why not the Three Newbies?

Hmm.

Maybe we name ourself after stuff we like, like Grilled Cheese.

[chuckles] How about the Funny Faces?[chuckles] Cherry Vanilla?

Tetherball.

-[both chuckle]-But those are all silly names.

Ooh! Silly Names. [chuckles]

Maybe we'll think of a name later.

Why don't we play something? Check it out.

That's a D.

-Whoa.-Nice.

What note is that?

Do drums have notes?

-Let's just play.-Wait.

What song?

"Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"?The book also has "Home on the Range." "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star"?The book also has "Home on the Range."

It can't be something too hard.I only know one chord so far.

How about "Row, Row, Row Your Boat"or something?

-Okay.-Yeah.

Well, I was inspired by your making music.

Would you like to hear a story?

About making music together?

Not about music, but it is about harmony.

A long time ago, three explorers set out to find the ocean.

Everybody in. I call front.

-[grunting] Easy.-[yelping]

Phew. Let's get this expedition going.

Ocean, here we come.

[Stillwater]Things didn't go so well at first.

Despite their efforts, they, in fact, ended up getting nowhere.

[grunting]

I can't reach. [grunts]Jacques, switch paddles with me. I can't reach. [grunts]Jacques, switch paddles with me.

No way, Henri. I'm gonna get us somewhere.

[grunting]

Everybody change sides.

[Stillwater]Their second try went no better.

We're still not moving,and I'm getting dizzy.

[Stillwater]Their third attempt went worst of all.

Everyone tried to tell each otherwhat to do.

Steady us, Henri.

-Faster.-Look out!

-Left. No, Yvonne, the other left.-Slow down.

[yelping]

[Stillwater] As they dried off,

the explorers thought aboutwhat had gone wrong.

[groans] This should be easy.

I'm really strong with a paddle.

You're too strong.

I'm more fast than strong, and Henri here…

I can't reach the water,so I'm no help at all.

No help?

Henri, we'd have broken the canoeon that rock if not for you.

You do have the best eyesfor spotting danger. You do have the best eyesfor spotting danger.

Aw, thanks.

You know,

maybe we were in such a hurryto get to the ocean,

we weren't thinking aboutwhat each other was doing.

We'll try again tomorrow.

[Stillwater]The next morning, they set out again.

This time, let's focus on what we're doingand what each other is doing.

-Right.-[Stillwater] They tried again,

watching, listening toand appreciating each other.

Henri was in front, keeping a lookout.

Since your paddle is bigger,I should try to paddle twice as fast.

[Stillwater] It worked.

For every one of Jacques's strokes,Yvonne made two strokes,

and the canoe went in a straight line.

Big rock ahead. Go left.

[Stillwater]Watching each other and listening,

they learned to manage their boat. they learned to manage their boat.

-All right!-Yeah!

-Whoo-hoo! Yes!-[chuckling]

[Stillwater]And when they all worked together,

they finally found the ocean.

The explorers never got anywheretill they listened to each other.

Playing music is kinda like that.

That's a very good point.

You have to get in the same groove.

We all were playing, just not together.

[chuckles] Maybe not.

I'm gonna try something tomorrow. Thanks for the story.

Check it out.Now I can really play some notes.

Hey, I thought of a name for our band.

Three-Part Harmony.

Harmony. I like it.

That's what our band needs too,all three of us working together.

I'm down with that. What's the plan?

We all listen and watch each other. We all listen and watch each other.

Let's try it.

Couldn't be worse than yesterday.

If this goes how I think it will,it'll be a lot better than yesterday.

Okay, Maya can start us off. Slow. Then Asha, then me.
