are at dangerously high levels.

Soon as that kicks in her blood sugars will come down
and she should regain consciousness.
But the diabetes will require ongoing medical attention.

- According to Perri's mother
she was diagnosed with diabetes six months ago.
- Well, why weren't we told?
- She kept it from us,
she must of lied on here application form.

- [Perri] A bit spaced.
- You're gonna be okay.
- Perri do you understand what happened?
- I went hyperglycemic didn't I.
- Why didn't you tell us that you had diabetes?
- 'Cause I thought I was better.
I was on medication for a while but the symptoms went so,
I've been fine for the last six months.
- The doctors wanna put you back on insulin injections.
Perri, did you hear?
- Yeah, I'll be jabbing needles
into myself for the rest of my life.
- Why would she hide it?
- Well, it's quite common for young people
to think they're in some sort of remission.
But it's not that kind of disease.
It's a life time condition,
with varying degrees of seriousness.
And some can get by with diet alone,
others are insulin dependent.
- And what's the longterm prognosis?
- Well there's regular exercise, diet and insulin.
She can expect to lead a relatively normal life.
- What if she just ignores it like she has done
for the last six months?
- Then she'll become a vary sick girl, it could be fatal.
I'll be recommending constant adult medical supervision.
- [Announcer] Dr. Bedlam to ward nine please.
