- [Amy] One of the scary parts of growing up is realizing

how much of your personality you get from your parents.

Like my love of surfing for instance, that's from my dad.

And my love of surprises, that's from mom.

I think I got mom's sprinting ability too, luckily.

- Don't think I'll forget this.

- [Amy] I'm pretty sure my taste for cheese

and Vegemite comes from my dad

and my addiction to horoscopes, definitely from mom.

- Oh horoscopes, you know someone just makes them all up.

- So what, they're fun.

Ready, here's mine.

This week someone unexpected

will turn your life upside down.

- That could mean anything.

- Let's just wait and see.

Okay, what's your star sign?

- Libra.

- Libra, libra that means your birthday's soon.

- Come on Eric, when's your birthday?

- This Saturday, how come you didn't say anything?

- Oh because my birthday's always end up in total disaster.

- Don't be silly.

- I'm serious for instance, last birthday

mom threw me this huge party right,

broke her leg halfway through.

Another one, I got this brand new board,

snapped in half first wave.

- Eric stop.

- And there were the good ones, so

I think it's just safer to ignore it.

- Ignore your own birthday, you can't do that.

(doorbell ringing)

- Now.

- Unbelievable.

- Oh it was your mothers idea.

You know how she loves surprises just like you.

- I know he said we should check

but I knew it wouldn't be a problem.

- Looks like the Rick Stevens' art, but there's more to it.

- Sounds like you know your boards.

- He's obsessed, shapes boards in his sleep.

- It's awesome though.

Mind if I ask where you got it?

- It's one of my own designs actually.

- Yeah, got a little business going.

- [Mike] Are they all as good as this?

- Any chance we'd be seeing any more of your stuff?

- Got a few back at the workshop if you guys wanna look?

It's like enough to feed a small country.

- Mom you didn't have to do that.

The way these kids eat, all contributions are welcome.

- And look I know how busy you must be

but we'd love to take you out.

Maybe tomorrow after training?

- I guess we can forget training one afternoon,

not everyday your parents fly in.

- The afternoon of training, you lucky duck.

- Well maybe Eric could come too.

Tiniest bit overwhelming.

- These boards are amazing Ben.

It means you can make sure every board's perfect.

- Yeah, it takes me a while to finish one

so there aren't that many around.

But I mean the customers keep coming back.

- This one's still my favorite though.

- [Bec] It's Eric's birthday this Saturday.

- Yeah he has this weird idea that his birthday is jinxed.

- Jinxed, what century is he living in?

- Anyway, I thought we could throw him a surprise party.

- And take him out for a birthday surf afterwards.

- Sounds good, so what's the plan?

- Look out, birthday boy six o'clock.

- Oh someone's dog die or something?

- Come one Ames, we don't want to leave the limo waiting,

have fun at training guys.

Linda's got a major shopping trip planned.

- (mumbles) mix it up.

- Mom, he'll be bored to death.

- Oh he'll be fine,

we'll take you both out to pizza afterwards.

It will give us a chance to know him.

(intense music)

- [Mike] How's the board?

- Awesome, take it for a spin.

- You know a (mumbles) can make more of these,

make a fortune.

- Exactly what I've been thinking.

This place is local and they've got

a computerized shaping machine.

They can mass produce those boards in no time flat.

- So you think if you get those guys together

with Ben and his designs.

- The sky's the limit with the right marketing.

- Reality check, you aren't a business (mumbles),

you're still in school remember?

- Hey even Bill Gates had to start somewhere.

Anyway I organized to have a meeting with them.

- What does Ben think about that?

- Nothing, yet.

- Don't you think you should ask him.

I mean, they're his boards.

- I will, I just want to do my research.

There's no point talking to him

til I've got all my facts is there?

- You amaze me mom, you can still shop til you drop.

- Oh well it's in the genes.

- Does anyone want a cold drink?

- Did you see the prices in some of those shops?

I was waiting for someone to look at me and yell security.

- That's mom, top of the range.

- I'd have to work full time for a month

to afford half that stuff.

- So what do you think, the orange or the green?

- I've really didn't need both of them mom.

- Well there was no sense in leaving them on the rack

how much Linda's been looking forward to this.

- That machine is amazing, feed in the data

- Long as I pay cost and do all the measurements myself.

I have to do all the proper business proposal

and then assess my next step.

- It's all about the deal.

- So you reckon Ben will go for it.

- He'd be mad not to,

we'll be laughing all the way to the bank.

- You're going to have to build a new wardrobe

to fit all this stuff in.

- Once mom gets shopping, there's no stopping her.

- So she likes to spend money on her only daughter,

that's fair enough.

- I know it's just my whole life,

my parents have always done everything for me.

- Doesn't sound so bad.

- It isn't, it's just, sometimes

it's good to do things yourself, you know?

Since I've been here, it's been great.

Haven't had everything handed to me on a plate.

- Well then maybe you should talk to your folks.

Pass the joys off a bit.

- I couldn't, they'd just get offended.

- All right, then I suppose you could ask them

to spend all their money on me instead,

it's a problem solved.

(typing)

- Corey, Simmo's looking for you, training remember?

- I know I'll be there in a sec.

- I told Simmo we needed him out of the way so,

he gave him an extra training run.

- No we just finished.

- So what was that little meeting about?

- It's Eric's birthday tomorrow so

organizing a surprise party.

(phone ringing)

- Amy's phone.

- So how will we know when the guest of honor will be here?

- Well I suppose we just get everything ready

and keep an eye out.

- I have a bad feeling about this.

the sea plane is having a few mechanical problems.

- He couldn't say, maybe minutes, maybe more?

- We've really got to get back, is there another way?

- I can call a taxi but it's over an hour by our road.

- Let's just say they're being put on hold temporarily.

- I had this big picture all worked out in my head

but then the little details got in the way.

- I just don't understand why everyone doesn't think

the same as me and make life so much easier.

between your business deals.
