as they can eat.

That is called persistence.
Came at the clutch time.
It's day 20. We need food.
We need protein.
We need fuel
for our journey tomorrow.
He might not be huge,
but that's what I've been after.
Well, guys, I got bad news,
and I got good news.
Russell: all right,
let me have the bad news.
The bad news is
the trap didn't work.
All right.
And the good news is
it doesn't *bleep* matter
When you're this good.
Wow! Look at you!

Two lobster
and an angelfish.
That's what I like to see,

It might have taken me 20 days,
but I finally got fish.

This is exactly what we need.

That's what we want --

That is the most beautiful
damn thing,
And I earned it,
so I'm gonna eat it.

Today is the day we needed
a big meal of protein,
And we got it.
That may be the best bit of fish
you ever eat in your life
Just 'cause of the situation.
Well, I'm savoring.
Russell:
I have a belly right now,
And that is
all thanks to forrest.
I am stuffed to the brim,
and everybody else is, also.
Narrator: as night falls
On the four survivalists huddled
in the shelter,
Cassie, after 20 days
of struggle and conflict,
Finally opens up
to the group.
Cassie: I just wanted to say
something to you all.
I just really want
to sincerely apologize
To you guys
because I've slacked,
And I've been way in
over my head with all of this.
And I will admit that.
I am
definitely not qualified enough
And, um, feel like
I've not only let, you know,
You guys down.
I've definitely
let myself down.
I'm just gonna say
I'm sorry and, you know,
Thank you guys
for pulling me in
And helping me out
even though I know
You guys did not expect
to do that.
I'm sorry.
It takes a lot.
It takes a lot to come to that.
And it means so much
that my talk really captured
Aspects
that you really needed to see,
And it was sentimental.
And it was worth every moment
and every word that I shared.
Forrest:
you still have time to show
your work ethic tomorrow, cass.
That's what I'm saying.

Day 21.
Morning of day 21.
It is hard to believe
That this is going to be
our last day.
I'm mad keen
to get out of here.
What may be the absolutely
most challenging part is
About to happen right now.
Let's do it. Let's go.
Russell: let's go.
Manu: I'm having all the trust
and faith in the world
That that raft is
going to get us
Over to that island
And we have enough energy
to climb that mountain
Up to the extraction point.
Forrest:
whoa! Big whale out there,
just full breach.
Russell: well, they said
humpback whales are out here.
Wow!
Narrator:
humpback whales can weigh
up to the 40 tons
And could easily crush
their raft to splinters.
Here we go!
The group will now have to raft
over four miles
Through the channel patrolled
by whales and sharks
To the extraction island.
Once ashore, they'll have
to hike another two miles
Through the steep, thorny bush
to get to the rescue point.
Whoa.
Oh, god.
With all four on board,
The raft is riding
dangerously low in the water.
Concerned, russell and forrest
start pushing
To keep them moving forward
So the currents will not
veer them off course,
Causing them to miss
their landing spot.
The deepwater channel is home
to voracious whitetip sharks.
Oceanic whitetips are
extremely aggressive,
And they have
a fearsome reputation
For attacking
shipwrecked victims.
Russell: I'm paddling out there,
kicking as fast as I can kick.
Forrest is kicking,
and the girls, they're paddling.
Manu: trying to put
those makeshift oars
Through that ocean,
that's extremely difficult,
And it takes a lot of energy
to keep the strength up
To keep moving forward.
Aah!
Holy crap.
Russell: I'll tell you what.
Being naked and having jellyfish
sting you everywhere...
Oh, *bleep*
...is not a nice feeling.
Helpless --
helpless would be
A perfect word to use --
very, very helpless.
Manu: jellyfish.
Ow! Another one!
If you had a cut on your hand
and you put pure alcohol on it,
That's what it was
feeling like.
Narrator: on the final day
of their 21-day challenge,
Our survivalists have struggled
for more than three hours,
Navigating their grueling
four-mile journey
To the extraction island.
At risk from shark attack
and stinging jellyfish,
The group is exhausted.
They are desperately finding
intense rip currents
That threaten
to push them off course.
Manu: our hips and our rib cages
are so bruised,
You end up expending
more energy.
Forrest:
the water's getting deep.
We round the corner,
and you can see that that cove
Is very far away, and we had
our work cut out for us.
It's so exhausting.
I have not taken
a second's break.
I've been breaststroke kicking,
Pushing this heavy raft
across open ocean.
Russell:
I'm glad it's a team of four
Because we couldn't paddle this
with a team of two.
There's no way.
Manu: oh, my god.
Oh, my god.
Manu: I'm so tired.
I'm exhausted.
I don't remember the last time
I was so exhausted.
Russell:
we landed, and it hit me
how much energy I really used
To get there,
kicking constantly.
Forrest:
say, "bye-bye, raft."
Bye-bye, raft.
Manu: you did well.
All right, okay.
Okay, let's do it, guys.
Forrest: we just accomplished
this big trek across open ocean.
Now we have to go
up this massive blooming cliff
And who knows where
to find the extraction point.
Narrator:
the island is very different
To the mainland
they have left behind.
In their exhausted state,
The four have to scramble
to a height of 600 feet
Through steep, rocky gullies
With the ever-present threat
of deadly inhabitants.
Aah!
These rocks are very loose.
Watch the rocks.
So keep that
in mind.
Cassie:
watch out for over here.
Just in case.
Russell:
I could feel a real solid burn
In my thighs and my calves
and my ankles,
Knowing
that now I have to hike
And I don't know
how far I'm gonna have to hike.
This is pretty steep.
Yep.
Watch
where you're stepping
Because there's a whole bunch
of thorns that I'm seeing.
Of course there is.
Aah! *Bleep*
We started realizing
that the terrain wasn't
As negotiable
as we thought it was.
Oh *bleep* go!
Watch out. Watch out.
That's why
we don't pull on vines.
Okay. Okay.
I know, but I just was --
chill out.
For god's sake.
Gaping wound
in the side of my foot.
Does it feel like
we're going
In the right direction,
forrest?
Forrest: yep.
Russell: what do you think?
Probably the best bet is
to come up there and down.
Yeah, come this way.
Cassie,
you can do it.
Cassie: it's -- I mean,
it's really difficult.
Manu:
truly a testing situation.
Forrest:
up that very tall mountain,
down through the creek,
Through all the thorns,
you know, up and down.
Manu: it just really,
really makes it hard.
But you just put
your head down,
Focus on the goal
one step at a time.
Just keep on going.
Forrest: big clearing, guys.
This could be it.
Oh, my god.
Oh, please tell me it is.
Top of the mountain.
Oh...
I think we're here.
Let it out, guys.
This is it!
Russell: all right!
Whoo-hoo!
This is a possibility.
I would say so.
Hell *bleep* yeah.
Here he comes!
I came into this experience
pretty c*ck,
But I am humbled
by not being able to do things
That I thought I could do
at the drop of a dime.
Good job, girl.
Good job.
Whoo-hoo!
I got to say it's been
the best worst experience
Of my life
on so many levels.
What I've learned is to just not
beat around the bush,
Just be honest with myself
About, especially,
my survival skills.
That was the biggest
slap in the face for me,
And that's when I realized
this is just not for me.
Whoo! All right!
Forrest:
your skills, your capabilities,
your physical fitness
All play a huge part in it,
But it's all about
the mental toughness.
Good job!
Yeah! Awesome!
Whoo!
Whoo-hoo-hoo!
Yeah! We did it!
Like, "yes, I did it.
I can do this."
Forrest:
let's get out of here!
We'll be telling this damn story
for the rest of our lives.
You can bet your tooting horn
on that one.
Narrator: but manu's story has
another chapter.
Woman:
do you want to sit up?
Three days after extraction,
manu was rushed to the hospital,
Where she was diagnosed
with dengue fever,
A potentially life-threatening
virus
She contracted in panama.
She spent two weeks
in the hospital,
Suffering agonizing pain
from the disease.
Now manu faces months
or even years of recovery time.
While manu suffered the most,
Every one of the survivalists
went through
Grueling mental
and physical changes
Over the 21 days.
Forrest lost
a total of 19 pounds,
While cassie lost 14.
Russell lost 8 pounds,
and manu 16 pounds.
Experts reassessed
each survivalist's psr
Based on how they performed
in the jungles of panama.
Russell exhibited
a high level
Of physical
and mental toughness.
Manu excelled
in her mastery of skills
But still demonstrated
a dangerous tendency
To overexert herself,
which cost her dearly.
Forrest displayed
significant patience
And leadership
within the group.
Despite her self-realization,
Cassie proved to have
vastly inferior skills
And work ethic.
Her reluctance
to be part of a team jeopardized
The group's
survival chances.
Russell's psr improves to 7.9,
while manu goes up to 8.0.
Forrest jumps to 8.8,
And cassie falls significantly
to 3.4.
In the end, they were able
to overcome
Their individual weaknesses
and conquer
One of the most inhospitable
environments known to man,
Proving that as a team,
They have what it takes
to survive naked and afraid.
I'm gonna give you forewarning
to every single one of you
Who are sitting out there,
thinking that you can do this.
