It seems just very surreal
that it's been almost 10 years,

and this is finally happening.

I wanna go in and do what I do

and tell my story, and that's it.

since a terrifying attack
and robbery on Kim Kardashian,

the suspects in that violent crime
are now on trial.

[reporter 2] Ten people are facing court.

Five are accused
of taking part in the heist,

and five are accused
of being accessories to the crime.

Look at all these police officers.

It took almost a decade
for multiple reasons.

I think the first five years,
they were gathering evidence.

-Wow, look at this.
-g*ns.

-Right behind you.
-Look at the machine g*ns.

Then COVID happened,
then the Olympics happened.

Is this what it's gonna
be like the whole time?

-I guess so.
-Probably.

And so, I'm just happy
that we're finally here.

It's so surreal to have

to look at these people
that did this to you,

In 2016, we all went to Paris,

me, Kourtney, Stephanie, and Simone.

We went to Fashion Week.

We were just gonna have fun.
Kendall was there, my mom was there.

I'm with my mama.

[people chattering]

We had just been
to a Givenchy fashion show

with the whole family.

We were having the time of our lives.

[Kim] Look at Kourt's outfit.

I was in Paris when Kim was robbed

and was staying in the apartment
with her and Simone

and Stephanie.

When the robbery happened,
I was actually in Paris

for Fashion Week.

And Stephanie and I were out
at a nightclub with Kendall.

Security had left with me
because Kim was just going to bed,

and Simone was just going to bed.

[Simone] I'm Simone Harouche,

and I've known Kim
since we were 12 years old.

They were in an apartment
with a doorman and a gate,

you know, we didn't think that
they needed security there.

[group chattering]

[Kim] And you see everyone
leaving me for the night

and little did all the robbers know

that Simone was really with me
and stayed back with me.

Everyone kind of thought I was by myself,

but Simone was downstairs.

-See you tomorrow.
-Don't stay up too late.

[echoing] Don't wait up.

[overlapping chatter]

I was just in bed falling asleep,
just closed my computer.

It was like 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning,

and I heard stomping up the stairs.

-[♪ suspenseful music playing]
-And I remember thinking,

you know, it was just Kourtney and Steph,
and they must have been drunk,

and I was calling for them.

You know, when you're
woken up out of your sleep,

sometimes you're like,
"Am I imagining things?

Is this what I'm hearing?"

And I sat up, and I got out of bed,

and I went to the door,

and I heard men, like, saying things.

And I just remember guys barging in

that were in police uniforms.

And then me seeing really quickly

that the concierge from our hotel

was, like, in handcuffs with a g*n to him.

And then I realized what was happening.

-She's screaming.
-Yeah.

They go and grab her.
Are they pointing the g*n at her?

He was shaking her with a g*n.

And I heard Kim screaming.

[♪ tense, pensive music playing]

And I was like, "This is [bleep] real."

So, I picked up my phone to call 911,

and I didn't know what that was in France.

So I pressed my security guard.

-And they grabbed my phone.
-[♪ ominous music playing]

I've known Kim since I was little.

It's like I know all of her sounds.

I know her laughter,
I know the tone of her voice

she makes when she's annoyed,

when she's happy.

There's something really different,

the sound that she was making.

It was pure, like, fear.

I remember looking
at the concierge gentleman,

and just so-- I was so confused.

I was like, "What's happening?
What's happening?

Are we gonna die?"
I just kept saying that to him.

"Are we gonna die?"

It was-- It was terror.

It was sheer terror.

My instant reaction
was like, "I have babies.

Just let me go."

Like, "Please, I have babies at home."

I didn't see anything.

Like, they can take whatever they want,

and please don't k*ll me.

I'm shaking.

I'm shaking because I don't know

why these men are in her room,

what they want from her.

Are they in the entire hotel?

And so, in my mind,
it wasn't just about Kim,

it was like, "They're taking over
the whole hotel.

"Like, everyone's in trouble.

Like, we're-- No one is safe."

I just had my robe on, and that was it.

I was, like, naked underneath.

And at one point,
he, like, grabbed my feet

and, like, pulled me towards the bed

and I thought to myself, like,
"Okay, he's gonna r*pe you,

and this is it."

And I, like, braced myself
and was like, "Okay."

You know, I'm scared that something bad
is happening to her upstairs.

So, it's just, like, overwhelming.

[♪ ominous music playing]

Your friend is screaming.

You're thinking that
they're violating her.

Like, it's just-- I--
That's just what I...

And then I'm thinking, "I'm next."

And then he proceeded to, like, tie me up.

[tape ripping]

They zip-tied my hands and feet

and then duct taped on top of that

while I was still on the bed.

When I realized
they weren't gonna r*pe me,

they were just tying me up,

that's when I thought I was gonna die

because he had put, um, tape over my face,

over my mouth and over my eyes.

So, I think that uncertainty
of what's gonna happen

was just the most terrifying feeling.

[♪ somber music playing]

I'm thinking I have to help Kim
however I can help her

because I'm the only one
in the apartment with her.

One of the guys just yells out "Ring"
a few times,

"Ring, ring," and then he saw it.

"Ah, I found it. Aha!"

Like, I just remember him
saying, like, "Aha!"

Then he found my other box of jewelry

with all the rest of my stuff
and was, like, screaming

in excitement that he found it.

Nine-one-one isn't a number in France,

so that was my first thing is like,
"Who am-- Wh-- Who am I calling?"

I texted Kourt and Steph for help.

I said that there were
men upstairs with Kim,

and Kourtney responded immediately.

I got a text from Simone that said,

"I just heard Kim say,
'Take anything you want.'"

We had just had that conversation at lunch

saying that if we were ever getting robbed

that we would say,
"Take whatever you want."

It was just so crazy.

And so I said, "We're on our way."

I remember running
out of the club, and I saw Kourtney

and the security guard
getting into the car

and they were like,
"We have to go, we have to go.

Like, Kim's been robbed,
something happened."

I was thinking about Kourtney,

you know, "I hope when her
and Stephanie walk in the room

"that, like, they won't be traumatized
for the rest of their lives,

that they will--"
I said a prayer for them and my family.

[♪ tense music playing]

Then we just raced out, got in the car.

Kendall was with me,

and we just went straight
to the apartment.

And we called my mom.

A call like that is truly unbelievable,

and that's my biggest fear in life,

is that something bad

would happen to one of my children.

Once they were finished,

they picked me up
and put me in the bathroom

and then shut the door and then ran out.

[Simone] I heard loud footsteps
going down the stairs.

[stomping footsteps]

I heard them pass my room,

so I knew that they weren't coming to me.

And then I heard the door close.

-[door closes]
-[reporter] They fled on bikes

with a bag of jewels

leaving Kim and the concierge
grateful to be alive.

The zip tie wasn't on tight

and so I was able to get out of it,

and then I was able
to pull it off my face.

And then I hear Kim
coming down the stairs,

and she's-- she's calling my name.

And she still has tape around her legs,

and she's-- Her bathrobe is off of her.

It's, like, undone.

I-- I definitely, I thought
she had been r*ped.

I still didn't even think
that they had robbed her.

You know, she looked like
she had been violated,

and she had been, I mean...

-Yeah.
-[♪ somber music playing]

And then Kim called me

like a couple minutes later,

and was, like, screaming

and just was like, "Help me!"

Like, screaming on the top
of her lungs, "Help! Help me!"

I, like, fell to the ground.

Like, my knees just, like, went out,
and I fell to the ground.

It-- It's all such a blur,

and all I knew to do was get
in the car and go there.

Thank God I was with her in the same city.

We were five minutes away from each other.

I got there immediately.

We were all together.

And then, the police got there.

-[sirens wailing]
-I just remember being in a state of shock

but then also just in a state
of distrusting everyone

because the guys came in
dressed like police

and then the real police
are wearing the same exact uniforms.

And then I was like,
"Wait, who's in on this?"

Like, "Who do I trust?

Is this real? Is this not real?"

[♪ pensive music playing]

I remember saying to myself,
"Okay, the cops came,

"you're safe, but now you need to go home.

"You just need to get home,
and then you'll be okay.

[voice breaking]
"And then this feeling that you're feeling

"will go away.

And you don't have to be scared."

It was so much...

emotional shutdown in my brain.

I don't understand what's just gone on.

Everybody's screaming.

It was one of the most...

devastating nights.

You're just in pure sheer panic.

Like, you're just,

you know, and then, like, I said a prayer.

I always know that
there's, like, a bigger plan,

and it's always God's plan

and so you kind of make peace with that.

No matter what, it's going to be okay.

[♪ music fades out]

What a terrifying thing
to have to go through

when you think you're never gonna
see your children again.

Yeah, or just like
that changed the trajectory

of how we have to live our lives.

-Yeah.
-With security,

-the way that we do.
-Right.

It's changed our lives forever.

We would have one security
for, like, all of us for the trips.

We just never thought
we needed it like that.

I didn't-- I never felt unsafe, you know?

I used to walk around
in the city in sweats,

-in a hoodie and, like...
- Yeah.

...no security.

-Yeah.
-By ourselves.

Right.

So, this experience changed
the way that I live,

changed the way that
I can comfortably sleep at night.

I don't know, I don't know
if that's just a blessing in disguise

'cause something maybe crazier
could have happened

had we not changed our security detail.

[Kris] Well, it'll be over soon.

Forty-eight hours,
we can put this behind us.

I mean, maybe this is why
they gave us a police escort

because these guys are so aggressive.

We've got police escorts.

We've got ten times the security.

This is crazy.

Didn't they learn anything from Diana?

And the paparazzi are
surrounding us right now,

and we can barely move our car,

and it's starting to feel really unsafe.

and that I'm present.

But I do have the bar exam
two months away.

So, I have to study while I'm here.

I got 100% on this quiz.

And then I have to meet with my attorneys
just to go over everything,

and they're gonna tell me what it's like,

and what a French trial is like.

laid out on her bathroom,

and she walked in,
she's like, "Hey, I'm Kim."

And I ended up sleeping over that night.

We, like, immediately just hit it off,

and we've been friends ever since.

just kept scaring me

We were only one floor up,
but still it was a high floor.

But that's how scary it was,

that that was the option for safety

is jumping out of a window
and breaking our bodies.

North gave me this Lego and was like,

"This is a treasure box
that will keep you safe, Mommy.

I'm putting magical things in it."

So, right before my trip
to Paris nine years ago,

North, when I was leaving,
she must have been three years old,

and Saint was one,

she gave me a Lego treasure box.

And so, I would put it by my bed,
and we'd be like,

"We made it another night from !sis."

We kept thinking it was, like, !sis
that was gonna get us.

No, I-- I remember, like, that part.

For some reason, I was so nervous
about going on this trip.

I was so nervous about !sis.

!sis was such a thing, and I was like,

"Oh, my God, they're gonna get us."

They grabbed it 'cause it was
in the Louis Vuitton thing

with all my jewelry,
and they threw this out.

And so, like, this was the only thing
that I got to keep,

and I kept it!

And I took it home with me and I was like,
"This kept me safe!"

I was like who cares about the jewels?
It kept me safe.

So, now I brought it to keep us safe,

so we can, like, rub the little...

Every night we would be like,
"We made it!"

When they took all my stuff,

that was the only thing that they left.

And so, it kept me safe.

They couldn't have been scary."

I didn't think for a second

that they were less harmful
because of their age,

or that they wouldn't have
k*lled me because of their age.

These men had g*ns.

Like, they were bigger men.

When someone barges in your room

in the middle of the night
when you're sleeping

with a g*n to your head...

and a mask over their face,

I did not think that they were old

when they came in the room.

Wait, so this was the guy that tied me up?

Kim didn't see what they looked like,

but she saw their g*ns,

and she felt their force

when they were taping her up.

They had to show me in my prep

the photos of what they looked like now

versus what they looked like 10 years ago.

You would not recognize them.

They were fit, they were sound,

they had g*ns.

And how terrifying that was

and how it's changed her entire life.

I hate that she has
to relive it all over again.

That breaks my heart for her.

But I'm here to support her
and just to be here for her

and help her through a really hard day.

It happened the way

including a ring strikingly similar

to the $4 million engagement ring
stolen back in 2016.

Of course Kim is gonna wear the diamonds.

She's not gonna let them win.

She's not gonna let them
take away her dignity.

And that's a very brave thing to do.

This was less than 10 minutes of my life.

I've lived an amazing life.

I don't know, that's always, like,

just to know, like, what was it?

Eight, nine minutes
of pure terror and panic

aren't going to ruin me.

[Kim] I'm just so ready to face these guys

and to have this just really be behind me.

[Kris] The whole atmosphere,

the energy, everything feels surreal.

And Kim is three feet
from the perpetrators.

What a scary thing.

[reporter] Even though
it's been almost nine years

since the robbery,
Kardashian thanked the court

at the start of her testimony
for she said,

"Giving her the opportunity
to share her truth."

When I first saw the robbers' faces,

I wanted to look them in the eyes.

I wasn't afraid of it.

Like, I wasn't afraid to confront them

or see them or communicate with them.

I wanted to hear what they had to say.

[reporter] Kardashian faced
the group accused

of stealing more
than $6 million in jewelry,

giving chilling testimony
about being bound,

gagged, and held at gunpoint.

A lot of people thought
this was just another part

of her reality show, a staged act.

And she talked about how she felt hurt

so many people didn't believe her.

I definitely remember people
even in the vicinity near us,

like, questioning if this really happened.

And that was-- It's really gross.

The narrative that my daughter

would make something
like this up was ludicrous.

I mean, it was just unfathomable

that somebody could have
said something like that.

[reporter] Many critics think
Kim Kardashian's attack

was an inside job or even faked.

[reporter 2] Kardashian filed
a federal lawsuit

for three posts which claimed

that Kardashian faked the robbery.

Howard Stern was like
famously mocking it all the time

and saying that it was just-- I'm sick,

and it's such a joke and I made it all up.

I remember he was so defiant about it,

and I was like,
"How can you be so certain?"

Like, "People trust you," you know?

And that-- that always stuck with me also.

Trusted media and people were spreading

this narrative as if it was
something to think about.

Even my ex-husband had said, you know,

"And you faked your robbery for a TV show"

and had said that
in front of all these people.

That was so...

like a knife to my heart.

[voice breaking] Just to think that
someone wouldn't believe you is like...

that's so close to you,

that should know you,

that should know how much
that affected your life,

it just really bothered me for...

like, you don't know who I am.

So, to finally be able to go to trial...

and-- and face these people
and hear their, like,

accounts and apologies and, like...

I'm like, "See, guys, it was real."

You know?

I'm happy it's over.

I think it was, you know,
a, a heroic effort for her.

[♪ poignant music playing]

She testified this was
a devastating experience

and-- and she was asked to come.

She was very committed
to it for a variety of reasons,

including the fact that

she herself wants to become a lawyer.

She's committed to
the justice system in all its forms.

And I think it will help her,

and-- and also Simone
who testified this morning,

get past these events finally.

Ooh, thank God that's done.

You did great. I'm so proud of you.

-That was

maybe six hours of t*rture.

And it's over. Kim did amazing.

[Kim] When is the sentencing, do you know?

[Kris] Two weeks.

She wanted to take her power back,

and so that's exactly what she did.

Just my feet hurt.

It was-- It was good.

It was good. It was necessary.

Relieved.

Very relieved.

I hate that she had to relive it,
but she was so strong,

and I think she needed
to feel those emotions, too.

It's very freeing to be able to say,

"This is what happened to me

and this is what I lived through."

And then the fact that you said
that you forgave them

was very... strong and--

But it's also my truth.

Like, I can't live my whole life
holding a grudge--

Like, truly, they changed
my life for the better.

I wanted to say that. And I thought
my attorneys were gonna count like--

-Like, they'd lose it if I said that.

-Yeah.
-To say thank you for doing this to me.

Yeah, just on what I value in life...

-[Kris] Mm-hmm.
-...the things that matter to me,

what's important to me, you know?

Yeah. I-- It's fun.

But, like, do I really care?

Like, it doesn't move me.

I'm looking at this more
as an experience that

was a really big growth
experience for me in my life,

and it changed me
and made me a better person.

So, I don't really look at it
as negatively

as maybe some people would take it.

I think-- Well, I know
Kim's focus of material things

prior to the robbery were
on an all-time high.

And that situation, I think,
definitely shook her up

where she had to realize
what her priorities are.

And sure, if you get stripped
of everything,

does that mean
they take everything from you?

And absolutely not.

She still has everything that matters.

And I think it just really
made her lean into who she is

and lean on family.

And I love the version that she is now.

[Kris] Mm-hmm.

Um, like, "I'm gonna cut you"?

Yeah, pretty much.

to where they had to, like, get me tissue.

Yeah. And, like, tears were coming down.

Tears were just, like,
rolling down my face,

and I was like... "Ugh, [bleep]."

I do. You want me to read it to you guys?

"After seeing you in a French TV show,

"after seeing the emotion

"and the psychological damage
I inflicted on you,

"I have decided to write.

"Not to get any kind of leniency
from you or the court.

"I admit what I have done.

"I come to you as a human being

"and want to tell you
how much I regret what I did.

"It destroyed me to see you in tears.

"I am very sorry for the suffering
I made you endure.

"You, your family, and your children.

"Of course, the past cannot be undone.

"But I hope this letter
can help you forget bit by bit

"the trauma that I made you suffer.

With my most sincere apologies."

I think that's very sweet...

and I do think it is the right thing to do
and I do--

I'm very, like, a person that lives

by what is the right thing to do.

I think that's very, like, noble of him

to have done that...

you know?

So, the podium's here,
so like if you're the guy,

I literally turned to him
and I said, "I forgive you.

Like, thank you for your letter."

During the robbery,
he kept getting close to me

and, like, saying to me
like just, "Shh." and "You okay?"

Like, that was in English.

He would just go, "Shh. You okay? Shh."

In that moment, I was like,
"Okay, he doesn't want to hurt me."

At least this guy doesn't want to.

It was like the glimmer

that made me feel like it might be okay.

So I definitely have
way more sympathy to him,

that I absolutely forgive him, you know?

The one guy that wrote
the book, he was like,

"Do you have anything to say to him?"

And I was like, "Yeah, I think
it's kind of, like, tasteless.

"First, you come in here
and take all my stuff

and then you wanna profit even more."

And then, he made a statement,
and I didn't turn around.

Then at the end,
I was like, you know what?

I appreciate all of their statements,

and I forgive all of them.

Kim talks a lot about second chances

through her advocacy work.

But, it's easier to do that
when you're not the victim.

You know? It-- It shows that
she's actually walking the walk.

Yeah, I mean I think with all
the prison reform work that I do,

it has, like, opened up
a different level of empathy

that I have in my soul.

But I also think that
there is accountability,

and there is growth,
and there is rehabilitation,

to be able to be better
in our society when they get out.

It-- Uh, we always on our chats are like,

"How do you do this with grace?"

You know? How?

I mean, she's a big person.

Like, we can all forgive anyone

that has, like, wronged us
or done something.

It doesn't mean I want them in my circle,

and I want them around, but I forgive you

and, like, I hope you have the best life.

But I'm always a forgiver.

I think that's always who I've been.

And it was hard to listen to.

It felt good to, like, get it out.

I am so happy this trial's over.

and then we can move on.
