Kacie: we need to have
a fast escape plan
If they start stinging.
Just haul a*s
back to camp.
All right.
Whoa!
*Bleep*
aaron, watch out.
Whoa!

Narrator:
one man, one woman,
Exposed and alone...
So scary.
At nature's mercy
for 21 days...
Ahh!
There's a bear
outside my shelter.
Narrator:
with no food...
I'm so done.
No water...
I'm hurting real bad.
No clothes...
There's an alligator
down here.
Do they have the skill...
Fire!
And the will to survive...
Man:
I want to go home.
I came here to face my fears.
I came here
because I'm scared of this.
My name's kacie
from bellingham, washington.
And I'm a coach and trainer,
and I own a gym.
I like to push myself
past that place
Where it's doable
and it's comfortable,
And I'm just able
to handle a lot of pain.
In 2012, I became
the first female
To inline skate
across the country.
I skated a little
over 2,000 miles.
That's a world record.
I was in pain,
and my legs cramped up,
But I've never been
so proud of myself.
I grew up camping,
I grew up hiking,
But I've never been
in a situation
Where I needed
my survival skills.
I'm doing this challenge because
this is everything that I avoid.
I'm afraid of snakes,
And I'm afraid
of every animal out there.
Narrator:
having the fitness and stamina
of a world-class athlete
Should help kacie overcome
the physical challenges
Of the belize jungle.
But her fears and lack
of advanced wilderness skills
Leave her with
a primitive survival rating,
Or psr, of 4.8.
Aaron:
the jungles of belize, man,
Doesn't get any better
than this.
My name's aaron.
I'm from orlando, florida.
I'm a stay-at-home dad
and a full-time student.
That's my little buddy, silas.
That's a big part of the reason
that I'm -- I'm here.
It's not just for me.
It's for him.
I'm a third-generation
florida native.
I've grown up fishing,
Swimming in rivers,
gators, snakes,
Stuff like that around us
all the time.
This is where I feel at home.
I'm an animal just like
everything around here.
And I belong here, too.
But I'm not a real big hunter.
Being outdoors is a big part
Of how I raise my son,
And helping him to connect
with nature as well.
Aaron's curiosity
and open-minded nature
Should allow him to work
in harmony with the land.
But his inexperience in hunting
And trapping
could limit his success.
His initial psr
has been set at 6.6.
Aaron: no clothes.
No jewelry.
Let's go find out
what it means to be human.
I'm barefoot and naked
in the jungle.
Holy *bleep*.
Once home
to the ancient maya cities,
Belize's selva maya
has reclaimed the land
And become overgrown,
impenetrable, and dangerous.
Falling trees pose
a constant risk from above,
While deadly fer-de-lance
vipers, wild boar,
And central america's largest
concentration of jaguars
Attack from the ground.
Also prevalent is the torsalo,
Or human botfly, a parasite
Whose larvae burrow
under the skin
And feed on human flesh
Until emerging
at maturity weeks later.
Unless properly removed,
the larvae
Can cause extraordinary itching,
Lymph node irritation,
and unrelenting pain.
Aaron: when I think
about being naked
In front of somebody
I don't even know,
You know,
the first thing I tell myself
Is "well,
this isn't the first time."
Hey, how are you?
Hello.
I'm aaron.
Kacie.
Very nice to meet you.
Are you ready
to do this with me?
Hey, I was born
ready to do this.
Good.
Yeah?
High five.
I'm want you to know,
Whatever happens,
I'm not quitting.
Hey,
I'm right there with you.
I'm not gonna let you quit.
Okay.
And I hope you don't
let me quit, either.
Let's go get these bags
and get started.
Narrator: kacie and aaron
have each brought
One personal survival item.
I brought a net.
Nice.
It's a bug net.
I have got
my trusty machete.
They'll also both share
a fire starter.
That's a lifesaver
right there.
We're living in luxury.
Oh, yeah.
And I've got a map.
Sweet.
Let's scope
this thing out.
The selva maya network
of watersheds
Can flood at any time.
So aaron and kacie
Will have to bushwhack
through jaguar country
Up to higher ground
Before establishing a campsite.
No kids?
Not yet.
What about you?
I have an 18-month-old
little boy at home.
Oh, wow.
And I'm a stay-at-home dad.
That's got to be hard leaving
an 18-month-old for 3 weeks.
It's extremely difficult.
I grew up camping
and hiking outside.
But being around,
holding snakes,
Holding animals,
that's new to me.
That's new to you?
Yes, it is.
Oh, okay.
This is more of
a challenge for me.
So that's why
I want to do it.
Oh, okay. Cool.
For me, a lot
of it's like going back home.
I feel comfortable
in the wild.
So you're comfortable
with snakes?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Good.
All right
I have myself a skirt here.
Put a little bit more
normal into my day.
You hear that?
Yeah, I did hear that.
Aaron: you can't mistake this
for anything.
It's the howler monkey.
I don't think they're as mean
as they sound.
I don't want to find out.
Aaron: look at this little
lagoon here.
That'd be a good spot
to catch fish.
Do you see anything?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I see small minnows.
My dad taught me how to fish,
took me all the time.
We'd go freshwater fishing
three, four times a month,
If not more.
I don't think
I'm thirsty enough yet
To actually
sample that water.
I think
we should set up camp
At least 40 feet
from the water.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
If we can find
an elevated spot, a good...
Dude, I'm good
100 yards out.
Okay.
I mean,
it's easy walking
Distance to here
to get water.
As long as we know
where it is, too.
Yeah.
All right.
Should we keep going?
Yeah, let's push
on a little bit.
Okay.
Do it.
All right, it's just really
jungly out here.
So just watch for snakes.
Yep.
Kacie:
I am scared of snakes.
So I'm trying to find
the most positive way
Of dealing with them.
Here -- should we
wake up the snakes
Just in case?
Hello!
Come on out, snakes.
Come on out.
You cool back there?
I'm great.
Aaron:
you want some nasty snakes?
This is the place
to come for nasty snakes.
That says a lot
about her character.
Do you have an idea
Of what kind of
shelter you want to build?
I know for sure I don't want to
sleep on the ground.
Yeah, the biggest snake city
you've ever seen.
Check this out.
See those two trees?
Yeah.
If I can clear out
around them, that's --
I think we might be home.
Okay.
Let me find cordage then.
All right.
'Cause we know
we need that.
Aaron:
I'm losing water quick.
Within 48 to 72 hours,
You got to have
the major four, you know,
Food, fire,
shelter, water.
So we need fire to purify water.
I don't know
what the deal is.
I mean, I don't know
these woods that well.
And this isn't burning.
Water might be tomorrow's issue
to deal with.
The bugs are biting my vagish.
They're biting me hard.
And they're biting me
too many times.
So I cut a piece
of the bug net off.
I'm trying to keep the bugs
out of my goods.
Aaron:
I can definitely say
That my prior construction
experience from years ago
Comes in hand every time
I build a shelter,
No matter what type
of shelter it is.
You do have a problem.
What's up?
Oh, yeah.
It got a little bit
more jagged.
I see that.
My machete's definitely
taking a beating.
She's such a go-getter
that she won't give up.
That'll k*ll you quick.
Let's take a break.
Aaron: I don't want to
get worn down.
And I don't want you
to get worn down.
I'm trying to work smart,
not hard.
Kacie:
I'm gonna listen to my partner.
But I'm definitely someone
That wants to work, work,
work until I fall over.
Well, do you want to get
to a point
Where let's just
finish this one project
And then rest.
Yeah, I'm down with that.
I'm down with that.
Aaron:
shelter's awesome.
She's in good shape,
perfectly fine.
It's, like, more than adequate.
But it's never gonna
be finished.
Kacie: oh, my god.
All right.
Freaking ninja aaron
just made a night-light.
We needed a little night-light
for security.
So lightning bug
was coming by and...
I wonder
if you can see it.
I'm gonna try
to turn night vision off.
Hang on.
Okay.
We're at a rave.
That was
a humongous tree
Coming down
in the middle of the jungle.
That's scary.
*Bleep*
Kacie:
see anything?
Aaron: yeah, actually, see
that tree broke off...
Like, 30 feet up?
I think that's what we heard.
Oh, wow.
Kacie: last night,
there was this huge,
Thundering crash
Not far from our campsite,
Not far from
where we were sleeping.
And it was a huge tree
falling over.
And we immediately kind
of got scared of not only
Where we were sleeping
but where we're walking around.
You see it smashed
into those other trees
Up there as well.
If it would've gone
the other way,
It would have
landed in our camp.
Like, there's no two ways
about it.
I also notice
that it doesn't look
Like it's
quite finished falling.
Narrator:
with shallow roots that are
especially vulnerable to rot,
The trees of the rain forest
can topple at any time,
Posing a grave risk
to aaron and kacie.
Some of the trees are,
like, 60 or 80 feet.
So if it's 50 feet away
and it's an 80-foot tree,
We're still in the radius there.
We know
not to go this way.
Should we go back up?
Yeah.
I just don't like going
over these old logs.
It's where the snakes go.
Yep.
How's it going?
It's going pretty well.
How you feeling?
I'm feeling that we might need
to get some water soon.
Let's go get some water.
Aaron: I'm pretty solid that
that very first stagnant pool...
Yeah.
...isn't really stagnant.
It can't be
because this water is flowing.
Aaron:
and I know various techniques
To filter it
and purify the water.
I've consumed gallons
and gallons and gallons
Of wild water in my life.
And I've not had a whole,
whole lot of issues.
Go away, snakes.
Ideally,
you'd like to boil it.
Even though we haven't been
able to get fire,
We think it's spring-fed.
So we're gonna go ahead
and go for it.
I guess, if you go down,
we both go down together.
Kacie: that definitely was
a risk that we both took.
And I think we both felt
really confident
That it was clean.
We're only on day two.
We could've waited longer
If we doubted the cleanliness
of the water.
That's how confident
I was in aaron.
All right.
Back to work.
Something's peeing
on us from the trees.
And we're not gonna
have this in the jungle.
No.
What's gonna be
in the tree above us
Night after night
That just
occasionally pees?
So do you think a monkey
is peeing on its hand
And then
flicking it on us?
Well, I'm not gonna say
a monkey won't do that.
Monkeys are nasty.
All right,
magnesium fire starter,
Wish me luck.
Aaron:
good luck.
Aaron:
day three, so far so good,
But we haven't eaten.
We want to catch some fish.
We want to cook some fish.
So we need to get
a small fire going.
I'm determined.
I'm not leaving this fire pit
until we have a fire going.
Aaron: go, girl.
Go, girl.
That a girl.
Look at you.
Whoo!
Really proud
that I made that fire.
This wasn't something I would've
put on my top 10 skills.
Aaron: we have fire.
We have water.
We have shelter.
So the next is we need
a sustainable source of food.
You want to disturb as little
as possible.
Yeah, we're gonna disturb
it walking in here.
They'll come back,
I promise.
I know,
but we don't want them knowing
That we're putting a net
over their head.
They don't know
what a net is.
We took our bug net
down from our camp
To dredge the creek.
Look at them all
right here.
I feel like we just need
to, like, grab them right now.
If you want to,
that's cool.
What we're gonna have to do
is we got to take one side
Under and pinch it back 'cause
they'll get out.
It's not super deep
And there's a lot
of sharp rocks.
So one of my major concerns
is ripping that net.
We rip that net
And that changes everything
about sleeping at night.
One, two, three.
Swoop under.
Pull tight,
and come to me.
Woo!
Come to me.
Come to me.
Come to me.
All right.
Let's get up on the rocks.
Yay!
Not eating snake tonight.
Okay.
Allspice,
what a good flavor,
Somewhere between, like,
cinnamon, clove.
I guess that's
why they call it allspice.
It kind of tastes
like all of them.
A little pepper
in there, too.
I took a third of the fish.
And I wrapped them
in allspice leaves.
And then I took pieces --
small pieces of vine, tied it up
And I set it
on the edge of the fire.
This'll work
just fine.
How many do you have
on the...
Six.
Six, that's solid.
Try it.
Still on the raw side?
A little raw.
The ones I cooked
on the skewer were nasty.
Whew!
Hot?
No.
The scales
got really sharp.
The fins became
little toothpicks.
And the insides
were still a little soft.
Try not to eat with my hands
Because my hands are dirtier
than anything else.
Kacie: fishy.
Fishy.
These are really good.
These are really
*bleep* good.
You want to
give this a shot?
Sure.
Okay.
That way you can kind of
test it out.
That's good.
Yeah.
The ones
that aaron cooked
In the allspice leaf
were really good.
They were soft.
They were cooked fully through.
And the fins
were not stabbing you.
Oh, my god.
I want a big fish.
Mm, I think that one
should have taken a poo
Before I caught him.
A little dirt
don't hurt.
Let's head down there
and grab some water maybe and...
Cool.
Oh, dude.
There's a snake.
Snake.
Hey, kacie.
Kacie, I found a snake.
It's a fer-de-lance.
Nothing else has
a pattern like that.
Be careful with it.
We got snakes back home,
but they're not pitted vipers.
They're not heat-seekers.
Get the 'f' away from it.
Hey, kacie.
Kacie, I found a snake.
It's a fer-de-lance for sure.
Did you get it?
Yep.
I just want to make sure
what I got
And what I think is the head
is actually the head.
My biggest fear is that aaron
is gonna get bit
By this fer-de-lance snake.
And now I'm alone in the woods
with the rest of the snakes.
Walk really slow.
Keep an eye out.
A lot of these types
of snakes hang out together.
Yep.
I'm looking for more.
So now I'm freaked out 'cause
It's not just one snake
that we're after.
Now I'm looking
for a family of snakes.
I don't want to find
a family of snakes.
Kacie:
did you k*ll it?
Oh, yeah.
Okay, it's head
is totally off?
Yeah.
It's not huge.
But that doesn't mean
that it's not as dangerous.
Baby snakes
still latch on.
And they just
keep pumping 'cause
They don't know
any better.
And they can't control
their venom flow.
And so they'll just
deplete their sacs,
And then
just pump you full.
Is that big enough
to eat?
No, it would be, like,
a half a bite for you.
Well,
all we've had --
I don't think
it's worth it.
All we've had are
those little fishies.
So if we want to
dump that snake
Or use it as bait
and try to catch more fish.
Possibly, yeah.
Aaron: there just isn't enough
meat on this thing
To justify the time and effort
it would take to harvest it.
To me, it just doesn't --
it doesn't seem logical.
It doesn't seem smart.
I try to work smart, not hard.
Hey, look.
Kacie:
what is it?
It's definitely
been here a while
From an archaeologist
or something.
Aaron: kacie and I were
heading down to the water.
I found a --
a piece of material.
Every little bit
you can cover up
Makes a huge difference.
I mean, that's one place
the mosquitoes --
Where they're not
gonna bite you.
We can make you
an outfit now.
Ah, that'd be awesome.
What, I'd like
to finally get my kilt.
All right, so I would
step your leg through here.
Mm-hmm.
And then cover yourself.
And tie it right here.
Just tie it on the side.
Like,
tie it on the side?
Yeah,
so it'll look like this.
All right.
Perfect.
We'll trade off.
I'm digging it, kind of,
the way it is.
Kacie: awesome.
Ready.
And pull tight.
Anything?
I don't see any.
You got one?
It's like they know.
It's like
they're wise to our game.
Kacie:
I'm trying not to think or talk
about being hungry 'cause then,
When I focus on it,
I get hungrier.
Aaron: all right.
We spotted this tree
When we were
down fishing earlier.
It looks like heart of palm.
I just think the heart
is right there,
Like,
where all the meat is.
I'm hoping that we can roast it
over the fire
And maybe make that last
a couple of days.
And that'll definitely
put some energy in us and --
And definitely get
some carbs in our diet.
I think I'm gonna do,
like, this one.
And call it quits for now.
Okay.
That's great.
That thing's a beast.
And it's --
There's substantial food
there in the middle.
But it's not something
we're just gonna do all at once.
Kacie: I want to get in
the heart of palm really bad.
Maybe I'll try
to do it by myself.
But we need some food,
and I need to get into it.
Aaron: she's got it in her head,
"I want to take down this palm.
I want to take down this palm.
I want to get
to the heart of it."
And she's absolutely right,
there's a great food source
In the middle of it,
but at what cost?
It's easy to think
that I could just,
Like,
saw right through it.
It's so hot out here.
Kacie: I know me,
and one of my biggest strengths
Is I can separate
my pain to my body.
So my mind doesn't know
what I'm doing.
Oh, my goodness.
I feel my body
just slowly shutting down,
And I don't like it.
Oh, my gosh.
We got to attack it.
And we can't attack it
without a lot of energy.
And can't have a lot
of energy when it's hot.
So it's, like...
I think I'm gonna start
waking up earlier
And working on it.
I keep hearing
bees, swarms at night,
Up in the top
of the canopy.
I'd love
to find some honey.
I would love to eat honey
right now.
Got termite mound.
We can always smoke them out
with termite mound.
Honey's good
*bleep*.
Bacteria doesn't grow in honey.
Honey can't go bad.
It can't spoil.
It's, like, the perfect food.
I found those bees.
You found the bees?
I think I know
about where they are.
What's our plan?
Just ease up on them.
And try to smoke them out
a little bit with this.
We're gonna take
the honey and run
Because we haven't found
any other food for about 3 days.
Right there.
Oh, my goodness.
They look like the mayan
stingless bee,
Which won't sting you.
But if they feel threatened,
they'll bite.
Okay.
Just be careful.
Unfortunately, the only thing
I think I can do
Is, like, hack at it.
I don't know of any way
to get up in there.
*Bleep* that.
Whoo!
I don't see anything.
Like, there's a hive.
But there's no honey.
There's no nothing.
There's just
a buttload of bees.
I got to get up,
like, up here
And then reach down inside it.
We're gonna make, like,
a giant dipstick
So I can dip it down in there.
Solid.
It's dry.
There's nothing in there.
At least they're not
stinging us.
There's a certain amount
of disappointment
That we didn't
recover some honey.
I wanted that honey.
I think I got my hopes
too high on that one.
And I always say,
"If you learn something from it,
then it's not a failure."
I don't know
if you can hear or not,
But we should have
about another hour of daylight
To collect our firewood.
And, uh, we got a storm roll
up on us real quick.
In the middle of the dry season,
That's pretty unheard of.
Kacie:
oh, my god.
Yeah, it's coming down.
Oh, my gosh.
We did not make a roof
ready for a storm.
The biggest concern is one
of those big trees
Falling down on us.
Yeah, it's, uh...
Anything can break loose
in that canopy.
I mean,
when there's no wind at all,
You can hear stuff
breaking throughout the night
Coming crashing down.
All night long.
And then to have the experience
like the other night
With that tree
going down.
And that's
with no wind at all.
Yeah!
Yeah.
Whoa!
Executive decision was made.
We are now under the shelter.
It's coming down.
Like, it's coming down
hard out there.
We're getting rained on
through our shelter
Under our shelter right now.
The wind is so strong
that it's, like,
Shaking the ground.
We've already had
a couple limbs come down.
One's come down just
to our left,
Outside the shelter.
And the other one came down
right behind me,
I mean, like, 3 feet
behind my back.
I'm glad I'm not alone.
Definitely.
Definitely.
Thanks, brother.
Best friend.
Kacie:
morning after the storm,
Stuff blown everywhere,
A lot of debris everywhere.
When you're laying down
And you're getting hit
in the head
With rain repeatedly,
It messes up your head.
It just smells like
rotten leaves.
Let's get
that mosquito net down.
Should hang this
up somewhere.
Maybe it'll dry.
Kacie:
we have a lot of work to do
if we're gonna redo the roof
To make it waterproof.
Aaron: I have previous
experience in construction.
So, I mean, I should better
at this kind of stuff.
So I don't feel great mentally.
After last night's adventure,
I feel like a failure.
We have no fire.
There's no hardwood anywhere.
There's no
dry wood anywhere.
How you feeling?
Tired and hungry.
Kacie: I'm to a point now
where I'm fighting
To keep my spirits up.
It's still there,
But I'm having to work
a little harder at it.
And I know that's because of
lack of sleep and lack of food.
*Bleep* monkey
peeing on us,
Throwing berries at us.
I don't know
if I'm doing this right.
But it's going to work.
I push myself where
I can't even control it.
I don't -- I don't get
those warning signs.
And it's something
I've trained
Myself to be able
to push really hard in races.
But, you know, it can be
my double-edged sword.
It can be my worst attribute.
All I know is there's
a heart of palm in there,
And I want to eat it.
Whoo!
Whew!
Oh, okay, good.
Oh, my god.
It's just too freaking hot
to be up there, like,
In the middle of the day,
beating on that thing.
I feel like I'm
20 degrees hotter
Than I should be.
You're a little dizzy.
And then next thing
you know you're,
Like, borderline heatstroke.
You can't be like that out here.
You got to be smart
about everything you do,
Every step you take,
and that's not being smart.
Kacie: the bugs
are attacking right now.
Aaron: ah, get off me.
Get off me, bug.
I just got this thing.
I got bit.
I can feel a botfly
under my skin.
There's something in there.
I can feel it inside,
like, when I move.
I can feel it.
I don't know,
I can feel it moving.
Narrator: upon landing
on human hosts, botflies
Release larvae that burrow
under the skin,
Where they act as parasites
And grow until emerging
at maturity.
Aaron: I don't know.
I've never
bitten by a botfly.
But I've read a lot about it.
And I just know
it freaking hurts.
And now I have blood
oozing out of me.
And I don't have
anything sterile
To wipe it with.
Aaron's botfly wound
is kind of scary.
I've never seen
anything like it.
I hope it goes away.
This is not the place
to get an infection.
Good times.
We're under
the shelter, again.
It's pouring rain.
Riding out the storm.
Fourth night in a row
with little to no sleep.
I feel like crap.
I just -- I need sleep bad,
really bad.
At this point,
I don't give a *bleep*
Like, I really don't.
I'm beat.
And I miss my family.
Man, I can't tell you
how much I miss my son.
Kacie:
today's the first day I saw kind
of a breaking point in aaron.
He really misses his son.
And he told me he wants to go
see his son right now.
I need to start preparing
to doing this by myself...
Just in case.
This is by far the hardest thing
I've ever *bleep* done.
I don't want to do this.
I don't want to think
about it, man.
I don't want to go there, dude.
I want to go home.
Narrator:
over 19 days, the belize jungle
Has pushed aaron and kacie
to the breaking point.
Starting with
a psr of 4.8, kacie
Has suppressed
her considerable fears
And tapped into her stamina
and fitness to help the team.
With an initial psr of 6.6,
Aaron has displayed
his ingenuity.
It's dry.
But his failures
outnumber his successes.
Aaron and kacie's ability
to adapt, improvise,
And overcome will determine
their ultimate psrs.
I want to go home.
Aaron: this is hard.
This isn't a game.
But I made a commitment,
and I came out here,
And I'm doing this
to be an example for my son,
To show him what it means
to follow your dreams.
So I'm not giving up.
Are you okay?
Kacie: I think he really
misses his son.
I think he feels guilty
for being away
Because he's at home
with him 24/7.
I'm just really freaking hungry.
Other than nuts and these fish,
there's nothing here to eat.
We need to eat
that heart of palm.
Aaron: heart of palm
is still very critical.
I think it would be
a horrible situation
To have either one of us
collapsing on the way out.
All right, ready to give
this thing another go?
I think we just need
to cut at the bottom
And just
pull this stuff away.
We're at a point now
where they should just
Kind of start
to fall away.
Do you want to cut
and I pull and then switch?
Yeah.
Aaron: there's still some work
to do on the palm.
I really got my hopes
up on that honey.
That was a bit of a letdown.
So I'm trying
not to get my hopes
Too high in the case
that it doesn't happen.
That's all we have right now.
Aaron: it's still
a little woody.
Kacie: god,
I hope this heart is good.
Holy cow.
Look at those huge beetles.
I like how white it is.
Yep.
Awesome.
The hell I don't.
Woo-hoo!
Aaron:
kacie's the kind of person
Who never gives up,
no matter what.
And that kind of perseverance
is really admirable.
This is, like, one of our
greatest achievements so far.
We need that.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, my goodness.
Yeah, that's good.
Kacie: I feel so much better
about extraction
Because of heart of palm.
I'm so excited
we finished it.
We needed that win
And the energy
for our extraction.
Mmm.
That is so good.
There's so much water in it,
too, so much juice.
I feel so proud of us.
Oh, hell yeah.
So proud.
Stuck with it.
That's teamwork.
Hey, these would make
nice shoes right here.
Oh, yeah.
You're right.
Kacie: we found the monkey
that's been peeing on us.
He's mad.
He's yelling at us
And throwing things.
Monkey!
The monkeys are suggesting
that it might be time to leave.
They're a bit ticked off.
They're dropping stuff
on us.
Yeah, they like throwing
stuff at us.
Let's figure out
where the hell we are now
And where we need to go.
Narrator: to reach extraction,
kacie and aaron
Must bushwhack southeast
through the most overgrown part
Of the jungle,
Undisturbed by human activity,
This belt of the rain forest
is home turf
For the selva maya's
massive variety
Of snakes and its densest
population of jaguars.
I'm gonna
cut the net down.
So we could put
our snake gaiters
And our snake shoes on.
You want to do two layers
like we were talking about?
Like, do one layer
almost like the socks
So that the shoes
aren't rubbing against us.
I think we should.
Kacie: we're using our bug net
to wrap our feet up as socks.
And then we're going
to put shoes
On that we made
from the heart of palm,
Wrap it up in cordage.
And then we're gonna put more
of the bug net over top
Just to make sure
everything stays secure
And we don't get
bitten by snakes.
This is what all my nightmares
look like, snakes' heaven.
Keep moving.
Watch this log.
Step high.
Step light.
I'm running straight
off adrenaline right now.
We got this, kacie.
This is rough.
You with me back there?
Yeah.
All right.
Aaron: it's almost
like the jungle is kind of,
Like,
closing in around us.
There's constantly vines
and trees
And roots and everything else
That you got to go through
to get out of here.
It's so easy
to get turned around out here.
Yeah.
It is hot.
Yeah, it is hot.
Oh, *bleep*.
Are these bones?
Yeah,
looks like deer maybe.
I don't know.
They're big.
Oh, great, walking
through a graveyard.
If there's bones,
there's apex predators.
These are big bones.
We're definitely
in cat territory.
Let's get out of here before
we find these big animals.
Cool?
Yeah.
I'm gonna cross
where these stones are,
Try to keep my shoes
out of the water.
I'll try giving you
a hand getting up.
Thanks.
Holy cow.
Look at all this water.
Listen.
Hey!
We're right here!
Hey, hey!
Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Whoo!
Yo!
Oh, my god.
I can't tell you how glad
we are to see you, man.
Man: welcome aboard.
Aaron: I've learned,
I've grown.
I'm stronger
than I was coming in.
I definitely have more
confidence in myself.
I feel that there's
almost nothing I can't do.
Whoo!
This has been the biggest
adventure of my life.
It's an epic journey.
I'm really proud.
I'm really proud.
You should be.
You should be.
Kacie: I'm proud
'cause this sucked.
And this took me
out of my comfort zone day one.
I ended up finding
a really great friend.
And I don't know
if we would have become friends
If we weren't stuck
together for 21 days,
And I'm really thankful
for that.
Aaron: I feel like I'm an even
better example for my son.
I made a commitment,
and I followed through.
I feel like a superhero.
Narrator:
over the course of 21 days
in belize, aaron lost 25 pounds.
Though his morale
sometimes wavered,
He exploited his resources
To conquer the jungle,
Finding ways to filter water...
Come to me.
Catch fish and smoke out bees.
Right there.
As a result, his psr
rises from 6.6 to 7.4.
During her 3 weeks
in the rain forest, kacie
Lost a total of 14 pounds.
Though she initially struggled
to overcome her fears,
Kacie's mental
and physical strength
Were a big reason this team
mastered the challenge.
Her psr increases
from 4.8 to 6.4.
Turning a hostile environment
into their home, kacie and aaron
Proved they have
what it takes to survive...
I missed you.
They're going to lance my groin
And try to pull this
botfly larva out.
This little black thing
right here,
That is the rest of the larva.
And that is the hole
that it came out of.
No botflies in me.
