06x10 - Melt Down Under

Post by bunniefuu »

So, the rain has started.
It's so cold.

I'm freezing.

Just hope
night will be over soon.

It'll be okay.

Oh, just hold on to me.

Narrator: one man...

Narrator: ...one woman,
exposed and alone...

It's scary.

...at nature's mercy
for 21 days...

Aah!

There's a bear
outside my shelter.

Narrator:
...with no food...

I'm so cold.

...no water...
I'm hurting real bad.

Narrator: ...no clothes.

There's an alligator
down here.

Do they have the skill...
Fire!

...and the will to survive...

Captions paid for by
discovery communications

Nicklas: there's nothing
friendly about this place.

Laura: I have done a whole lot
to prepare

For "naked and afraid,"

But now it's come down
to personal grooming time.

You know,
from a survival standpoint

You're thinking, do you shave it

So that if a bug
does get down there,

You will be able to see it
or do you grow a big *bleep*

Like a venus flytrap sort

So then you are able to, like,
stop them

Before they get in there,

Be able to pick it out,
you know.

What to do?

Now I'm in my home in sweden.

So a lot of the preparations
have been to eat a lot.

Swedish milk, hamburger,

Some cake, cheese,
cheesy-cheese,

I need all the energy I can get.

Now I'm going to go in here
and see my husband.

What do you think
about the poor guy

Who I will be stuck with?

Narrator:
australia, the outback,

A land of extremes,

Almost impossible
to survive in.

This is where laura and nicklas

Will endure
the next three weeks.

This landscape is quite harsh.

Narrator: daytime temperatures
soar into triple digits

While nights can plunge
almost to freezing.

The extreme heat and cold
produce violent storms

That are unleashed
on this barren terrain.

Flash floods turn creek beds
into death traps

As temperatures plummet.

Kinda nervous and anxious and
excited all at the same time.

Narrator:
wildlife is equally hostile.

The arid landscape is home

To the deadliest snakes
on the planet.

Among them the brown snake

And, most feared,
the inland taipan,

Whose bite kills
in under an hour.

Redback spiders with fangs
larger than the brown snakes

Hide in warm places waiting
to inject their lethal poison

Into unsuspecting prey.

Very little can survive here,

And danger strikes
without warning.

The southern outback
is a deadly foe.

I can't believe I'm doing this.
It's totally crazy.

I am laura, I'm 47 years old

And I am a housewife
from mcallen, texas.

I was in the air force
for four years.

I went to survival school,

Became pretty good
at making debris-hut shelter,

Foraging, and purifying water,

So, you know, I'm used
to being uncomfortable

And tortured a little bit.

Now I feel like
I'm a fly on a truck.

I tend to have a black cloud
following me everywhere

Like I am kind of clumsy
and have bad luck.

I am a little zany
and eccentric and a lot people

Misunderstand me,
which is probably

Why I don't have
a lot of friends

And unfortunately I spend
a lot of time alone.

Narrator: with her past
military training,

Laura displays a solid base
of survival skills,

But her eccentric personality

And difficulty forming
social relationships

Could be obstructive
in a team setting.

She scores an initial primitive
survival rating of 6.1.

Laura: I'm kind of hoping
that with being out here

That I'll make a lifelong friend
with my partner

Whatever poor son-of-a-b*tch

Is going to be stuck
with me out here.

Nicklas:
feels a little bit strange

For a swedish viking
to be out here.

I am from the other side
of the globe.

I am nicklas.

I am 30 years old,

And I live in stockholm, sweden.

When I was a growing up,
a small boy,

I didn't really
like physical challenges.

The small kid that always
was picked last,

So I was quite a lonely boy,

But now I work
as an adventure guide.

I've cycled
from portugal to china,

From sweden to south africa

And I've trekked in madagascar

From coast to coast,
500 kilometers.

So now being here, for me,
this is the ultimate challenge.

It's also some kind
of a revenge for the ones

That didn't believe in me
when I was growing up.

Narrator:
though completely self-taught,

Nicklas's vast experience

As an extreme adventure guide
earns him high marks

But he has never
encountered an environment

As extreme as australia.

His initial psr is set at 7.3.

Nicklas: the swedish viking,

And now I am going out
to conquer australia.

Yee-haw! Whoo-hoo!

In sweden we grow up
being in the sauna,

So I don't have a problem
being naked at all.

The swedish viking is ready.
Let's go.

Butt naked in the outback.
Here we go.

I've done a lot
of crazy things in my day,

But this takes the cake.

Off to meet my partner now.

-Hello.
-Hello.

-Finally we meet.
-Nice meeting you.

Yeah very nice.

Hi.
I am nicklas. Hi.

-What's your name? Nicklas?
-Nicklas, yeah.

I'm laura
nice to meet you.

Oh, I am from sweden.

-From sweden?
-Yes and you?

From texas.

-Oh, texas. A texas girl.
-Yes.

Oh, that's great.
So, what are you doing?

Not much.
I'm a housewife.

Housewife.
Okay.

What do you do?

I'm a houseman.
No.

I am just kidding.

No, I work
as an adventure guide.

-Oh, adventure guide?
-Yeah.

So you've got
lot of skills?

Well, we'll see.
I hope so.

-I hope you do.
-Yeah, yeah.

Nicklas: once I meet laura,

I sense that she has
a great sense of humor,

Which I like.

I think it is very important
when you're out

On a challenge like this
that you can laugh together.

Well,
I got my fire starter.

Oh, yes! Whoo-hoo!

Narrator: in addition
to their two items

Laura and nicklas have been
issued a cooking pot and a map.

Guess we're there

And it seems like we have
two bigger water sources.

Yes, and this one looks like
it has possibly more wood there,

With the trees, lying down,
for fire and shelter.

I think that looks like
a good spot over there.

That's a good plan,
texas girl.

Very good plan, viking boy.

Texas woman leads the way.

-Whoo-hoo!

Laura: good vibes already.
We're going to get along great.

Quite harsh environment.

Yes, it is.

Ow. Ow.
This ground is horrible.

Barely able to walk on this.

Aah! Ooh! Ow!

Ground is hor-- god! Ugh!

Laura: this walk is so hard.

It really feels like I'm walking
on a bed of nails.

Nicklas:
you just take it slowly.

Nicklas,
he's got a very good attitude.

He is super positive.
He is funny.

I think we're working
really well together.

So I think
we're going to do well.

Ooh, what's those bones
over there? What's that?

-I don't know.
-What is that?

Let's look at it.

That look like
a kangaroo?

Yeah, I think we can use this
as a...like tool.

-Yeah?
-So let's bring it.

We decide to bring it to camp.
Can be useful for things.

It is a harsh environment

Where dead animals
lay everywhere.

I hope that not someone
will find us somewhere

And use us as tools.

Laura:
we found some bones, people.

-Yeah.
-Let's go.

Whoo-hoo!

Oh, my gosh.
What we got here?

Oh, my god.
There's water.

-Huh?
-There's water.

-Yeah. That's perfect.
-We got some reeds.

Maybe we could do something
inside this area.

I mean it is up high enough.
It's near that water.

We have a lot
of fire materials.

We've got decent places
to walk.

This is -- I think
this is a really good place.

Feel like it's going to be
a really good shelter

As far as
weather goes.

It already has got
a rock wall behind us.

I can't think of a better spot
than this actually.

-I think it is a good choice.
-Yeah.

I think we make
good decisions together.

Yeah.

Laura: in a few hours
it is going to be dark,

So we need to get something
going here

Before it is time to go to sleep

Let it breathe a minute.

Nicklas:

Hold on.
It's going out.

-Wait, wait.
-We're suffocating it.

We need to get some --

Hold on.
This isn't working.

Yeah, wait, wait.

'Cause we're smashing
the fire.

We need to --
we need to do this better.

I think it is best
if one is responsible

For the fire and then
the other one for the shelter.

You work on the shelter
and I will work on this.

Yeah, sure.

Huh,
that does not look good.

You can do it laura.

I believe in you.

Laura:
looks like a storm's coming.

We need to get
this shelter going on.

It's like a worst-case scenario
right now.

I want us to get a shelter done,
the fire can wait.

So, the rain has started.
It's so cold.

Freezing.

Yeah, just hope the night
will be over soon.

It will be a cold night
without the fire.

Laura:
well it's the morning of day 2,

And last night was pure hell.

Day 1 straight out of the gate
sucked a*s.

I'm bruised.
I've got these cuts on my feet.

I mean, I'm a mess
and it's only day 2.

Me and laura were just,
like, shivering all night.

Didn't sleep at all,
so, yeah, it was tough,

But it's a warm day today,

So I guess I will
be sun burned today.

Swedish white a*s people.

So, I'm thinking
about the shelter.

Yeah.

We should try
to improve it.

So I just think that if I just
take down this,

We will see how it looks.

Today our plan is make fire
and change our shelter.

It's too big
and we will make it smaller

So we can conserve
the body heat better.

Are you just trying
to just drop the whole thing?

We just need to take it down
like this.

And then we will see,
like, how it looks.

If it's big enough
or if we have to change it.

Maybe we should
just start over,

Take everything off
and start over

'Cause we'll probably use
some of this --

I think -- don't you think
we should just start over?

I'll just take down
this first.

Okay, do that first
and we'll see how that looks.

We don't need it too big.

Say we like start over
so we can make it better.

Do you think if we can
put the sticks up this way

And lean to that way?

What?

Let's take this stuff off
and start completely over.

I think it's better
if just one of us do one task.

It's too many chefs
makes a bad soup I think.

Laura: nicklas wants to --

He wants to work
on one completely separate thing

And then I will work on
one completely separate thing.

You know, so sometimes I feel
like maybe he dismisses me,

You know,
when I have, like, an idea,

But, you know,
21 days is a long time,

So you don't need to be fighting
over these little things,

So we'll make it work.

All right, we need -- I need to
go get some stuff here.

Okay.

These clouds
do not look like our friends.

You know, that's not like
a cloud or two coming over

To rain on you.

That looks like
a major storm system.

This isn't even catching fire.
The grass isn't doing anything.

Ooh.

My black cloud of bad luck
followed me to australia.

Last night we were freezing,

We thought we were
freezing to death.

So we don't want
to be repeating that,

So we're doing our best
to build up this shelter.

It's raining.

We're happier today.

We haven't gotten
the best shelter,

But still it's leaking in water.

We are very afraid
on this night, actually.

Laura: it's going.

Aah.

Narrator: the temperature
is dropping rapidly,

Putting nicklas and laura
at risk of hypothermia.

Nicklas: nothing friendly
about this place.

No. Well, my whole
back's getting wet.

-It is?
-Yes.

-Oh, I need your body heat.
-All right.

Please stop.

We'll be okay.

Just hold on to me.

God!
What a freaking nightmare!

Australia's
become freezing.

Getting no sleep again.

*Bleep* misery.

Well.

Look at the -- oh, my god.
It looks like a *bleep* flood!

Oh, my god.
Look at it.

Last night I thought
do I have the guts to make this?

I had felt like
I had hit the bottom.

And it was like
very surprising thought.

I'm exercising
to get some heat into my body.

But now I know that I can have
a major breakdown like that,

But still keep it going.

Laura: you know, I'm trying
to keep a positive attitude,

But we got rained on
all night long last night.

Wet, cold, miserable.

Feeling pretty down
and depressed.

So, I mean,
it was a rough night.

Narrator: in addition
to physical fatigue,

Extended sleep deprivation
can cause confusion,

Erratic heart rates,
and manic behavior.

Nicklas: we need a fire now
because we're really cold

And the materials inside here
look very dry.

I think that they have been
saved from the...

From the rain.

-You got some fresh stuff?
-Yeah.

-Okay.
-So can we do like this?

I start trying.

And then if I don't succeed,
then you can continue.

Sure.
Let's try to help each other.

And I really need to focus,

So we can do it
without anyone giving tips.

You've got magnesium
in there?

No.

No, no.
Don't do it like that.

You have to make a pile,
like in front of it.

Nicklas:
she still gives me opinions

Even though
the responsibility is mine.

I really have to like --
yeah, control myself

Not to like scream shut up.

That burnt --
you've got to pick it up

And blow
like they do I think.

That's what.
-Please.

I do it my way now
and then you do it your way.

-Well, I can't --
-i just need to focus.

That's just the way I work
and I ask you to respect that.

I know,
but I thought we were a team.

-You know --
-yeah, we are a team.

I think afterwards
you can tell me.

I just don't want to waste
all your hard work.

I can tell you how I work.
If you -- I --

Nicklas. It's me.
My brain works like this.

When I stay focused
on a task,

I need to be focused and no one
have to give me advice.

"Do that, do this, do this,"
because then,

Like, my focus disappears,
which will just --

-Okay.
-It doesn't work. It's --

Can you respect that?
-Sure.

And I can assure everything
that you want.

I respect that.

Okay?
-Okay.

Nicklas:
I don't want to make a conflict

But sometimes you just need
to let someone else,

Like, do the job.

Laura: it's like if my way
doesn't work,

Then you can try your way.

I'm like, that's kind of
counterproductive in my opinion.

We should make it work
the first time, together.

Oh, it's so close.

Oh.

You need
some of these sticks?

Good job.

Whoo! Fire!

Oh, we needed this, laura.

It feels great
that we got a fire going.

But I wish it could --

But I wish it would start off
more as a team effort.

Laura,
I didn't mean to upset you.

That's what I said before,
so I hope it's okay.

It's just --
it's just the way I work.

Whatever.

I'm just frustrated, you know.

My feet are hurting
and I've had zero sleep.

Zero.

And I think all nicklas
wants me to do

Is get bedding and make cordage.

Because I guess
that's woman's work.

I don't know.

And he's gonna do the fire
and build the shelter,

Like, I have no, you know,
good ideas or whatever.

I wanted to come out here
and make a friend.

Laura: this here is probably
the coolest thing

I've seen the whole time
I've been here.

He looks at me.
He knows I'm here.

Maybe he'll be my friend.

All I wanted was
a friend out here.

I have literally had zero sleep.

Um...feeling kind
of emotional right now.

And I'm not usually like that,

But I guess it's different
when you're miserable.

Narrator: for the next two days

Laura and nicklas
subsist on a few crawfish.

But laura has had barely
any sleep all week

And the depravation is now
sending her spiraling downward

Mentally and physically.

Nicklas: found a small insect.
Maybe it can be our lunch.

Go ahead.

You don't want it?

Don't be so picky.

Should we split this?

Laura:
whatever. I don't care..

You know -- laura.

What?

Please listen
to yourself now.

Oh, for *bleep* sake.

I don't even want
to talk anymore right now.

Really, I don't.

Eat everything
I don't want anymore.

Please.
Control your feelings.

Next time
I feel irritable,

I will give you
a trigger warning

And then you can go
to your safe space.

Thanks.

I got to start
calming down.

The man has not seen me
truly upset.

This is the toned down version
of me being upset.

You know,
I can truly flip the eff out

And, you know, completely
go off on his a*s

And, you know, that would be
the true authentic me.

Nicklas: I feel little
bit worried about laura.

I think sleep is very important
for a human to function.

You can go a long time
without food.

But you cannot go
a long time without sleeping.

Nicklas:
what are you doing?

Are you really gonna use
your feet that much?

No sleep makes you
little bit crazy.

Aah! *Bleep* *bleep*

I know he tries to be
mr. Optimist, positivity

But it just all *bleep*
in my opinion.

I think it's all freaking fake.

You know, at least I'm real.

He may not like me,
but at least I'm real.

Aah! *Bleep*

Every damn time.

The only good thing I could say
is he lives in sweden

And I'll never
see him again after this.

Oh, my knees.

Can you hand me
the knife please?

-I don't know.
-Then you can go back to sleep.

It's behind you.

You can't just hand me the knife
that's right behind you?

You're so ridiculous.

I'm like a child? All I asked
for you is to turn around

And hand me the knife
and to go back to sleep.

And you said,
"no, I'm not gonna do it

Because I'm resting."

I swear to god
one day I'm going to k*ll you.

Let me tell you right now.

Nicklas: in sweden, if you had
threatened to k*ll someone,

That's not like an expression,

It's a real threat.

I won't feel safe with a woman

That is constantly angry at me.

Threatening to k*ll me.

It's a very serious
thing to say.

So I made my decision
that we must split up.

*Bleep* hate him.
That's what. I *bleep* hate him.

Went from liking him to
*bleep* hating him in six days.

So I guess this situation
isn't working anymore.

That would be
an understatement.

Yeah.

So you have any suggestion
what to do?

I think we are
pretty weak right now.

We haven't had any food,
so I really don't want us

To have to
make two shelters.

I don't think that serves
anybody's purposes

To tear down the shelter
and start over.

But, you know, if you just
run off by yourself

I'm sure you're gonna take
the knife.

You know,
you already got fire,

So you don't need
my fire starter anymore.

So it's not gonna be fair
for me

To have to sit out here
without a knife

And not be able to do anything
or make anything.

We should just stay our distance
throughout the day

And then at night time just keep
a small fire going, you know.

I feel that you and me
are quite incompatible.

-I agree.
-And I've been doing my best

To compromise even though
you may be not have noticed.

And this at some time
it comes to a limit.

The limit came this morning
when you said

That you were threatening
to k*ll me

And that was
the limit to me.

So I have already
taken decision

And I will not change my mind
no matter what you say.

That's fine,
but you can't take one --

And I will I will take
small piece of coal.

You cannot take the coal
because the fire is mine.

I will take the coal.

-You're not gonna take the coal.
-Yes, I am.

Because I'm gonna
put the fire out right now.

No, you're not taking
the coal

Because you cannot
take the knife

And leave me with nothing.

You cannot take my fire.

Yes, that's what I will --
I'm gonna do.

No, you're not.

There you go.

You're not taking the fire
and leaving me with nothing.

-Yes, I am.
-No, you're not.

You're not gonna --
-please, no violence.

You cannot leave me
out here with nothing

And take and take *bleep*

You cannot --
well, you know what then?

I'm gonna come to your camp
or wherever you're at

And I'm gonna get coals
from you.

-Okay.
-That's what I'm gonna do.

That's fine with me.

Can you please get the medic
out here

To check my blood pressure?

I'm not feeling very well,
please get the medic out here.

Please, laura.

You're not gonna
leave me out here with nothing.

You think
you're gonna leave.

You can keep the pot.

Goodbye.

Bye.

*Bleep*

*Bleep* fire he puts everywhere
and burns people.

Now I'm gonna put the fire
completely out

Because I know
he has some grand master plan

To come and steal coals
when I'm not here.

So that's exactly
what I'm doing.

Narrator: laura's verbal threat
against her partner

As well
as her destructive actions

Could threaten his
and her own safety.

The producers are left
with no choice but to intervene.

Producer:
well, unfortunately, regardless

Of how serious the threat was
that you made to nicklas

Saying,
"I want to k*ll you right now,"

Unfortunately,
for the crew's safety,

Your own safety,
and his safety

We need you to tap out
of the challenge.

We think that would be
the best thing.

I feel like the reason
that I'm tapping out --

I'm being forced to tap out
is because of my partner.

I completely blame my partner
for how I am right now.

Nicklas: before she threw
the coal into the water,

One piece of coal
dropped on the ground,

So now I'll just put up
a temporary camp

Somewhere to preserve the fire.

I'm making sure
not one coal is left.

I've never been this upset
in all my life.

I'm having to leave
the challenge

Because of what is such an evil,
selfish, vindictive,

Condescending man
that I've ever been

Put in the company with
in my life.

Nicklas: I see laura walking
away with the production team.

I am feeling happy,
but little bit sad also.

My ambition
with this challenge

Was to, like, fulfill it
with my partner.

But when you get a partner
like that, it's impossible.

I'm not saying I'm perfect
and I can't be annoying,

But I am not that impossible
to get along with.

What I've realize is that
there are certain people

In the world that you can never
get along with,

That you will never see
eye to eye, which is probably

Why there is so many problems
in the world.

Nicklas: now laura has gone
from the camp.

I'll head back there
since it's my original home.

And as a precaution,
I bring some coal

From this new fire.

Old fire is out,

So I guess laura
had her last goodbye.

Whoo!

Oh.
I found laura's walking stick.

I will burn this.

I will burn this
as a symbol for freedom.

It angers me that laura tried
to create such a hell to me.

I am happy that I am
on my own

And I will do this 14 days
that's left by myself.

Here we go again.

*Bleep* storm
when I am going to sleep.

It's cold.

Can't I get just one night
of sleep please?

You can't get me yet.

Can you hear me, god?
You can't get me.

I am the swedish viking

And you don't get me that easy.

My favorite breakfast --

Whoo! Water.

From start
I had, like, an attitude

That all food is bonus,

But I decided
that I really want --

I really want to eat.

So I am gonna get food.

Swedish viking is coming.
Whoo!

I have my trap,
my figure-4 trap

And this is a stone of death.

Will see if it will
give me some food.

Seems like I found something.
Rabbit hole.

Can find also poop here
from the rabbits

And this is a really good place
to set this snare.

It will be taken by surprise.

I am starting to get
a little bit low energy.

I will try
to make myself active.

There are a lot of big ants
here around this rock.

Sorry, ants,
but I need food.

Oh.

Citrus, it tastes like citrus.

They bite me in the tongue.

This is the second best choice
instead of a hot meal.

Food, food, food.

I need more firewood.

Here we have this snake.

It's in my pile
where I collect firewood.

Little bit too dangerous
to k*ll as a food.

We had a good brown snake,

A deadly snake.

Very dangerous.

I don't like that it is
so close to my shelter.

Yeah, kangaroo I guess
it's looking for water,

Same as me.

This is my only protection
against outback.

I can only be in two places.
It's my shelter and the water.

In this heat I can do nothing
but just try to survive the heat

And I also have to aware
of the snakes

So I don't walk on them.

Food would be --
it's like a dream to me now.

My figure 4, however,
hasn't caught anything yet.

It would be so good
to have some food in my stomach.

Just something
that has been alive

And that can fill up my stomach.

I'm gonna check the rabbit --
the rabbit snare,

And I also put up another snare
that I did today.

No rabbit yet.

So, come on now, rabbit.

Go into my snare, please.

You are so many.

There are thousands
of rabbits here

And there's only one human here.

I only need one rabbit.

I am starting to lose hope

About getting anything
to get to eat before I --

Before I get out of here.

I don't --
I don't like this place.

My legs start to get dry

And my skin it hurts
and starts to cracking up.

It's like having a skin on me

Like when I am
walking like this.

My biggest concern right now
is my skin and my body,

Which is itching
and scratching everywhere.

The sun and the hot winds
make it so dry.

Oh, it's painful.

Oh! This heat
is driving me crazy.

It's terrible. I have never ever
experienced anything this worse.

I have to drink much
so I don't get dehydrated.

It's like a huge hair dryer
that just dries all landscape

And it's powerful winds, which
is so warm, warm, warm wind.

Why the hell am I doing this?

Narrator: nicklas has been alone
on the desolate outback

Of southern australia
for the past 11 days.

On day 7, his partner laura
was removed from the challenge

For threatening his safety
and her own

Lowering her psr to 4.9.

With only 3 days to go,

Nicklas is maintaining
a positive attitude,

But lack of food
and the overwhelming heat

Are starting to take
a devastating toll.

His psr will be revaluated
at the end of the 21 days

If he can summon the strength
to make it out on his own.

I don't like this place.

I've barely eaten anything
at all, so I am quite hungry now

And I need energy.

I am going to see

If I have caught
something with my snare.

Looks like there is
something there.

Whoo! Food!

Whoo!

Thank you, rabbit.

It's great
to have some food tonight.

This was exactly what I needed
to have the motivation

To go on to extraction.

I have had so much challenges.

I've been fighting for this
for, like, weeks for one meal.

I am absolutely no hunter,
no trapper,

So this is a huge success.

One of the best things
I have eaten in my life.

So this is like
a taste expl*si*n.

I will never look at meat
and food the same way again.

Delicious.

My plan for extraction
is to leave

A couple of hours before sunrise

Because extraction
will be very tough

If I need to walk
during daytime.

Now it's the moment
that I have been waiting for,

For three weeks -- extraction.

I really hope
that I will make it

Before it gets too warm
during daytime.

That's why I am starting now.

So I managed to do
some kind of a shoe

With my rabbit fur.

I don't have, like,
enough for two.

So one shoe is enough for me.

Narrator:
to reach his extraction point,

Nicklas must head east over
six miles of sharp rocky terrain

To the base of this mountain

Where he will face
a grueling 600 foot climb

To an emergency access road.

Leaving before sunrise

Will shield nicklas
from the heat,

But it won't protect him

From the outback's
cold-blooded K*llers.

The deadly nocturnal
redback spider

Will be seeking
warmth and food,

And one misstep in the dark

Could easily rile up
the lethal inland taipan,

Whose bite has enough venom
to k*ll 100 humans.

Nicklas:
I have to be aware of snakes.

Ouch.

Need to walk
a little bit more careful.

Doing some pushups
to keep the warmth.

This is what vikings love --
it's the suffering and pain.

Pain is temporary,
glory is forever.

Running gives me
a sense of strength.

If I can run after
21 days of starvation,

I am strong.

It's getting steeper
and steeper, so this is *bleep*

The last nightmare
the outback wants to give me.

Whoa! Whoo-hoo!

Summit! Extraction!

Oh *bleep*

Oh, three weeks hell is over.

This is the highest mountain
in my life.

I didn't have so many friends
when I grew up.

I was the one that
when other boys played soccer

I just stood and watched.

Whoo!

Over her!

So this is an inspiration
to all those kids out there.

It's possible
life can have an another change.

Oh! Freedom!

So, to the outback
and it's elements,

You have made the best
to get rid of me.

It started with a thunderstorm,

Continued with the cold,

The wind, and finally the heat.

Still didn't get the viking,

But the viking
didn't get you either.

Narrator: after three weeks
in the australian outback,

Nicklas lost a total
of 22 pounds.

Swedish viking is coming.
Whoo!

Narrator:
on his own for 14 days

He endured intense heat
and isolation

Before finally securing
a major source of protein

And willing himself
across the brutal terrain

To his extraction.

As a result his psr increases
from 7.3 to 8.1,

Proving without a doubt
that the swedish viking

Has what it takes to survive
"naked and afraid."

Laura: so I would definitely
do it again

And hell I would even
do it with nicklas again.
