That is actually
quite terrifying for me
Because I'm terrified of fish,
let alone sharks.
That really kind of scares me.

Then the opportunity came up
to do the show.
I was like, "yeah."
When people want to do
something crazy and stupid,
I'm always the first person
to stand up and raise my hand.
I served in the navy
for six years.
I've traveled
all over the world.
I've hiked
the appalachian trail,
Hiked the pacific crest trail.
But actually surviving
on the land
Without all your equipment
there with you
Is something
I've always wanted to do.
I want to do this challenge
because I want to go
Do something
that's brutally hard
And to prove that
african-americans,
People of color,
we can be in the wilderness,
And it's something
that we should be a part of.
I've built enough fires
throughout my life.
I've built shelters
over the years.
I feel like I have the skills.
I feel like I'm ready.

I want to be
the person doing it.
Currently sea kayaking
to the aialik glacier.
I think I'm pretty bad-a*s.
I'm a strong person.
I'm able to push myself,
And I'm able to conquer
whatever I'm doing.
I climbed nine mountains.
I love climbing because
It's an incredible physical feat
to be able to do.
You think that you can just
go walk your little a*s
Up that tall mountain?
Think again.
Get up to elevation.
You're out of breath.
You're stumbling.
You want to give up.
But I'm not stopping
till I get to the top.
I'm very ready to take
on this challenge.
I can build primitive shelters,
different types of fire.
I'm super-focused.
I feel like I can do anything
that I want to do
If I put my mind to it.
I'm unstoppable.
My weakness as a survivor
would be my swimming.
I'm an okay swimmer.
I've always been afraid to,
like, swim where there's fish.
But that's just about it.

really hard to do.

It feels very surreal
going from sitting on the couch
Watching "naked and afraid."
And now I'm one of those people.

Far from a tropical paradise,
The dense pine groves conceal
razor-sharp limestone,
Whose cracks
and crevices harbor
Tens of thousands of land crabs,
Who are now at the tail end
of their seasonal migration.
I am a little nervous
about being able to get water.
I've seen some rain clouds.
Look like they might
be rolling in.
Narrator: hurricane season
is reaching its peak,
Unleashing storms that can dump
12 inches of water
In just 24 hours.
Stagnant pools create
a breeding ground
For multitudes of
disease-carrying mosquitoes
And no-see-ums,
Who thrive in the
island's sweltering interior,
Unchecked by coastal breezes.
To be honest, I'm a little
worried about things crawling
In places
I don't want them to be.

selected for this challenge
Based on her strong motivation
to succeed
And demonstrated ability to
endure harsh outdoor conditions.
But her fear of the water
Could be detrimental
in this environment.
She begins with the primitive
survival rating, or psr, of 5.1.
