The Colombian Jungle
has never had Omar in it,

and everybody keeps
asking me if I'm ready for it.

But nobody's stopped and asked
Colombia if they're ready for me.

[Raven] This place
feels very magical.

Definitely beautifully
intimidating.

But I want to do
this fan challenge.

To prove to myself how
fearless I am. And I'm ready for it.

[Omar] Oh, I'm gonna make it.

I refuse for anything
less than the 14 days.

treacherous enough.

be outdoorsy and survive, and do it.

left to survive in Palomino, Colombia.

Located on the Caribbean
Coast, this tropical jungle

is filled with bloodthirsty insects,
jaguar, caiman, and venomous coral snakes.

Under the dense jungle
canopy lie damp mangroves

and creeks fed by the
serpentine San Salvador River,

bordered by thickets of piercing
thorns, and twisting vines.

Summer brings 90 degree
heat and strangling humidity,

and sunny days can quickly erupt
into deluges of rain and flash floods.

[Omar] This might be
a little bit wetter than...

I don't wanna sink too deep.

No, I don't like that. Let's go this
way, unless you wanna try to brave it,

But I just don't
wanna go knee deep.

It might be a little
easier over here.

Have you ever done any
survival, like, retreats like this,

or tried to live off the land?

[Raven] Definitely
no survival retreats.

I wouldn't consider
myself a survivalist,

but I do consider myself someone
who is a preparedness person.

I am a cannabis cultivator
on an all-female farm.

And from the very first moment I got there,
there was just all of these women building,

and it's hot, and they're like topless
and I knew that this family was my family.

When I'm farming, I love
to be arms deep in soil.

I have no problem with hard
work, and I've lived in environments

that are without electricity
and often without running water.

I'm excited to show the rest of the world
what a Black girl from Chicago can do,

because I might be all sparkle
and purples and pinks and all that,

but when it comes
down to it, I'm badass.

I'm always willing to try something
new, and step out of my boundaries.

[Omar] k*lling it.

[narrator] Raven has valuable
experience living off the land.

But her survival skills
have never been tested.

She begins with a Primitive
Survival Rating, or PSR, of 5.5.

[Omar] I've actually
done survival retreats

and I'm an Eagle
Scout and all that.

And I've been telling people
I wanted to do this for years.

And now, we are here.

[Raven] Yeah.

[Omar] So I've seen every
episode of this. I love this kinda stuff.

I love extreme sports.

I like to push the
limit on things,

sometimes a little too much,
I gotta rein it in a little bit.

I've been in the scouting program
since I was, like, seven, eight years old,

all the way to Eagle.

And it's given me a lot of really
good skills in life and in survival.

[narrator] Omar is an Eagle Scout,
and an experienced outdoorsman.

But his risk-taking mindset
could get him in trouble.

- [whistling]
- He begins with a PSR of 6.1.

[Omar] This has
gotta be the river.

I think I can
jump in right here.

[Raven] Just be careful,

'cause the caiman definitely are more
prone to be in these shallow waters.

San Salvador River Delta,

spectacled caiman
lurk along the shoreline.

Females lay 15 to


and will become aggressive if
their offspring are threatened.

[Omar] Oh, it got clear.

It doesn't look like it's
moving that much, but...

Be careful of creatures. Caiman.

I made it. By swimming.

I know that's not a big deal
for you, but it means a lot to me.

I think we're gonna
head this way.

Now, this is a thicky Ricky.

[Raven] Looks
familiar from the map.

[Omar] What are you thinking?

[Raven] This is definitely open.

It's definitely open, here.

But you'd be surprised
how much this river will fill up,

and I don't wanna build a camp here,
have one good day of rain flood us out

and have to move a
shelter that we've built.

I like it here.

But if we do build
here and it floods out,

I am gonna be like,
[clicks tongue] told ya.

- We don't need to have "I told you so."

a decision that we both agree on

and not anticipate
drama in the future.

trees already are like, uh, anchor points.

this'll be the top,

and then we just gotta put two pieces
of bamboo up a little bit taller here

to make our roof.

So we found a spot that looks
pretty decent for setting up camp.

We wanted to have like a four square
structure that's gonna be kinda trapezoidal.

Right now, I'm just clearing to get
it ready for what we're gonna build.

[Omar] Got a little standoffish
earlier, but we were able to talk it out

and decide on a good spot
and a good structure idea.

I'm gonna keep voicing my opinion,
but I'm gonna give her the most respect,

and, and listen to
what she has to say,

and if she puts out some
good ideas, let's go with 'em.

I don't like that
sound, that thunder.

[Omar] Gonna need to move.

[Omar] So, I don't think we need to tie
every one of those crossbeams down.

[Raven] It's definitely

It's gonna rain, and my partner

is showing signs of being
very opinionated, which is fine.

But there is more than

five by five square just being miserable.

The problem is I gotta build a shelter
with less energy than I had yesterday.

As much conflict as I can

another day, I think she's mad at me again.

Bamboo is great. It's hollow between
each joint. So it can hold water.

There's my pot.

Now, I'm gonna try
and to get a fire going.

I was dreading
the night so much.

This fire is everything.

I didn't think I could make it
through another night without it.

It's hot, but it's good.

water since I started this.

so to not have
fire is still fine,

because the rain water is my only source
of water out here, and it's all I need.

There will be some

The beam was just bending
under the weight of all the leaf debris

that he put on top of it.

So I'm gonna get some
cordage and try to remedy it.

not the biggest deal.

shelter with the night vision on,

because I decided
to reinforce it,

I went out to get some
more kindling, and it was dry,

so I might be
able to get a fire.

little bit hungry.

So today I was gonna go
look for some food options.

hotter than I thought it was.

I didn't want the
whole shelter to go up.

I just grabbed the closest water to
me, and it was clean drinking water.

I had to put my rain shield
out without putting the fire out.

It was quite the ordeal.

[Raven] I've been drinking a lot
of rainwater almost every night,

but I haven't had
enough, uh, food.

I was thinking
about the lime tree.

I'm gonna see if I can
chop some of it down.

[Omar] I'm going to
check my fish trap.

I can't imagine
anything being in here.

I've only baited it twice.

Holy [bleep]. No way.

I still have one fish in there.

It's not a big one,
but I think it works.

[Raven] I just got 11 citruses.

That was taxing, but worth it.

[Omar] God, I
needed this right now.

This fish means just as much
to my mind as it does to my body.

This is delicious.

And that gives me
a moment of energy.

Haven't been real active the last
couple days, at least the last two,

Because I'm just trying to
conserve as much energy as I can.

I wanna jump in there,
but I'm not a great swimmer,

so I was thinking, let's not try
to drown ourselves in the river.

I look up the river,
and there's another one.

But I can't swim to get it. I don't know
if you have the energy, you can have it.

Bad blood aside, she
needs to eat out here.

She hasn't had any protein.

Also, there is a fish trap in
the river I made right over there.

I caught one in there. If there
is another one, it's all yours.

He caught fish to eat it, and I
really think that that's appropriate.

I think that his body needs
more protein than mine.

I think that that was a solid
choice for him and his needs.

It was really nice of him.

That was a really good, neighborly
thing to do, and I'm grateful for it.

[Omar] We are neighbors.

We've been avoiding each
other because of the conflict,

but yet, we're both going
through the same struggle.

We're both starving.

And two people that don't get along going
through the same struggle can bond over it.

interaction with my partner

kind of boosted my morale.

We had a normal conversation
with no abrasiveness.

And it was short,
but I'll take it.

What the [bleep]?

My whole camp infested
with weird black and red ants.

This is ridiculous. Like, I
can't catch a [bleep] break.

Why is where I'm staying
infested with ants for no reason?

All this makes me...

This is miserable for me, like every time I
take a step forward, I get two steps back.

Like, this is not fun.

[Raven groaning]

My stomach's starting to hurt.

[groaning]

I was rationing my coconut,
and it had mold on it.

And I scraped the mold off.

So I'm nauseous.

I have all this, like, bubbly,
burpy stuff happening.

I just was doing so well.

[sighs shakily]

Dude, I love this fly that
just loves my butt [bleep].

He's like, right in my BH.

Like, dude, leave it alone.

Every time I bend over, he
just faceplants right in my BH

and I swat him out.
It's the craziest thing.

Them flies are this big.

It's like, really uncomfortable.

As I'm standing here naked in
the jungle talking about comfort.

But whatever.

[Raven] I ate a little
bit of rotten coconut.

And like, I wanted to throw up.

I drank some water
and it's getting better.

- Hey, Omar.
- How's it going?

Can I use your machete?

Yeah.

Whoa.

[Omar] Yeah, my whole
shelter is engulfed with ants.

[Raven] Cool. I
hope that it works.

Thanks.

I'm gonna need
to make this work.

It worked, so...

Pretty happy about that.

Ants have all gone home.

About damn time.

It's day 13, and
extraction day is tomorrow.

And I feel exhausted
and excited.

There's no reason
not to just be happy.

How you doing?

[sighs] I'm tired.
How are you doing?

- Same.
- You looking skinny.

You lost a lot of weight, too.

- [exhales]
- But you had enough to spare.

I know, and you didn't
have any, so [laughing].

We got a long extraction,
though. If it's a mile,

Well, that's a mile
more than I can do.

It'll feel, like, not long
because we want it.

Yeah. I'm proud of you.

You know, I don't know what that
means, but [laughing] I'm proud of ya.

This is a long, hard deal.
I can't believe we made it.

I'm proud of you, too. I
could never do what you did.

[Raven] It'll be nice
leaving here together

and give each other a kudos
on what we've managed.

When Omar and I met, it was
contentious and uncomfortable.

And what changed for me is that
I think it's pretty badass for him.

To be able to sleep outside
without a mosquito net.

I'm, like, not that
strong of a person.

He made a fish
trap out of bamboo,

and definitely has the survival
skills that he said he has.

And that I respect.
Uh, very much.

[Omar] Extraction
tomorrow is gonna be tough.

Mother Nature breaks
you down on a level that

it's hard to explain until
you're out here naked.

I think it's awesome
my partner came over.

We didn't talk at
all this whole time,

but she stuck it out
and she worked hard,

And she's knowledgeable and
she knows... She, she's a survivalist.

And I'm excited that we get to
lean on each other to get out of here.

[Raven] Omar! I'm so ready!

[sighs] Day 14. I made it.

[Raven] Finally, this
moment has come.

I'm mind blown with
explosions of excitement.

Seriously. It's
the hike of our life.

Great shelter, but, bye.

I'm just so glad to not have
to sleep in there tonight.

- [Omar] Let's head out.
- [Raven] You ready?

[Omar] I'm so ready.

I will walk the trail with him
and he will walk the trail with me,

and we will make it to the end.

Let's look at this map. So, we gotta
cross over some waterway right there.

Get through this vegetation,
and then we go to the beach,

so it looks like
we're going this way.

- Let's do it.
- Heck yeah.

[narrator] Omar and Raven will
need to cross through thick mangroves,

while being careful to avoid the
caiman that nest along the muddy banks.

They will then hike four miles,
up and over steep, thorny hills,

Where venomous
fer-de-lance snakes lie in wait.

A bite left untreated can cause
internal bleeding, and even death.

From there, they will make their way to
the ocean, where they will be extracted.

Water. Oh, it's shallow.
A little murky, though.

Wow. Hope it's not too deep.

[Raven] This is
like, it's caiman land.

Uh-oh, something just touched
my leg. Oh, God. I don't know.

[Raven exclaiming]

[Omar] Oh, I don't like that.

Whoo!

[Omar grunting]

- [Raven] Whoo!
- [Omar] Whoo.

Man, this is a hike.

Ow, [bleep].

Those are bad
thorns right there.

No ground visibility.

[Raven] Oh, my
God. This is the worst.

'Cause I feel like this
is where snakes live.

I'm gonna take this net
off. It's just dragging on me.

[Raven] I think I hear ocean.

[Omar] I do.

I'm exhausted.
There's no energy.

- [Raven] Mmm-hmm.
- [Omar] Get me the hell outta here.

- Oh, my goodness. There it is.
- Wow.

[Omar] Somebody better
be here to pick me up.

Yay, sand on the toes.

[Raven] The map was right!

Yes. Ah.

[Omar] Oh, look. There's a boat.

- No.
- Come get us!

[Omar] Yes!

[Raven] Yes!

- We made it.
- Whoo!

[Omar] It was crazy. You know,
careful what you wish for from your couch.

But being able to do it alone and keep
your mental psyche where it needs to be,

I feel I'm really proud.

Hop in.

But I'm happy we
finished together.

- Let's! Go!
- Whoo!

[Raven] Wow. I really did this.

And I learned that I can hone in
on anything I want to, and just focus.

That is definitely the biggest gift that I
have given myself by doing this challenge.

I'm so happy. I'm so relieved.
I'm so proud of myself.

[narrator] Raven lost 11 pounds.

Her PSR rises from 5.5 to 5.9.

[Omar] Man, it was exhausting.
Hell of an experience.

We made it.

Being able to do it alone and keep
your mental psyche where it needs to be,

It shows a lot about our will and
our survival, and it makes me proud.

I think it would have been a
little less lonely working together,

but other than that, I think the outcome
would have been the same. We would've made it.

[narrator] Omar lost 17 pounds.

His PSR goes
from a 6.1 to a 6.5.

[Omar] I love that I'm representing
the African-American culture,

but you come out here, and you do
this, it puts us all together as a family.

Doesn't really matter what color you are, and
we all came from a different walk of life.

- Whoo!
- Let's go!
