we really blew it.

Lego bricks are not meant to

My number one fan

for the super strong windmills
by Caleb and Jacob...

This is great, coming off last
week's catastrophic failure.

This is the best win so far.

It blasted Lauren and Bryan
to the bottom two,

and sent Maria
and Philip home.

Just unfortunately didn't quite
come together as we'd hoped.

This has been such
an amazing experience.

Tonight, we're pulling
all the strings.

You're all gonna build
your very own puppets.

This will be epic.

We're putting
on a puppet show...

to stop a puppet

from stealing my job.

Well, I hope you're all ready
for the best challenge ever.

This week, you're all gonna
build your very own...

...Puppet!

Caleb and Jacob
aren't the only twins.

Hey, how you doing there?
I am will puppette.

But you can just call me Billy.
There's no need to be so formal.

It's not like I have a stick
up my butt. Just a hand.

That's actually... yeah,
that was a pretty good one.

Yeah, I know, I know.

I can't wait to see what kind
of puppets these builders make.

You know what, Billy? Same here.
Especially since their puppets

will not only
have a unique personality...

Right.

...But also at least
one moveable feature

- that sets it apart from all the rest.
- Yep.

- So, we have to build a puppet...
- With a moving part.

Never done that.
It's gonna be tough.

This challenge is all
about creating loveable

and original characters.

So, we really want to see
how you bring out

their personality
and give us

- some great expressions, too.
- Yeah, the expressions.

But don't forget,
movement is important.

I have so many ideas

on how to make this challenge
even better.

Builders, look, when you're done
building your puppet...

Thank you. You're gonna
put on a puppet show for us.

I wrote a script
starring two puppets,

so you're gonna have to perform
alongside another team.

It's up to you who
you're paired with, though.

This is really exciting.
We get to collaborate with another team.

In this situation, you're both
competitors and then also teammates.

So, builders,
you have 10 hours

to bring your puppet
to life.

- It's time to...
- Get your brick on!

Oh, I'm sorry. Did you

- Okay, - Okay, so, we
have to do a puppet.

- A puppet.
- A puppet.

You know what would be funny?
If his arms actually had wings.

We could even make it
like a dragon.

I love puppeteering.

Puppeteering is my thing.

Who do you want
to team up with?

All of the teams have
a really cool build style,

and the script that we get
is an interaction

between these two characters

where they both
share their talents.

So we're excited to get to do,
you know, a team mash-up.

Hey, Bryan, Lauren, do you
guys want to go to prom with us?

- That sounds fun.
- Okay, I'll go with you guys.

We think that Bryan and Lauren
have a similar build style to us.

We're diving into
an impossible challenge,

let's do it with some people
that we have a lot of fun with.

I don't want to interrupt Caleb
and Jacob, but it want to go...

technical builders

and we know Wayne is gonna

These guys probably
have won more number one

in the challenges
than any other team,

so it's a privilege
to pair up with them.

Do you know what kind of puppet
you guys want to do?

We're thinking
we were gonna have a dog.

Like a doggy
that looks like our dog.

Bryan: We're making
Hazel the Princess pup.

She is true puppy royalty,

and she looks a lot like
our puppy Hazel at home.

We're gonna try to do one maybe
that sings, because Natalie can sing.

- Ooh!
- But we're trying to figure out how to do the...

- Yeah.
- Do the mouth right.

When we pair
with Natalie and Michelle,

we seem to have a bit more of
our concept down than they do,

but we know that they're going
to bring a fun story to life.

Cool. Okay, we'll reconvene.

Can we ask what you guys
are building?

The big thing we want to
play with is, like, eyes, right?

We were thinking
about doing a dragon.

You can't do that.
We were thinking a dragon.

- What the heck?
- But we could be a dragon,

you guys could be,
like, a medieval person.

- They were listening to us.
- No, you were listening to us.

Taking our dragons
away from us?

- Huh?
- I think they see us as a threat

so they're
trying to weaken us.

They're trying

Brothers and brothers.
I see!

- Enemies.
- [ Lauren laughs ]

How do we get
the rivalry aspect in there?

- Do we play with that at all?
- A dragon and a dragon slayer.

Or a dragon
and a Princess arguing?

Well, these are all
great ideas.

Go grab some green parts.

So, we are making a dragon
with a very expressive face.

And we're gonna have
lots of movement.

That's the most
important part.

A Princess
could be kind of funny.

Caleb's voicing this, 100%.

The judges want a puppet
with a lot of character,

so Jacob and I are creating
Samantha the sassy Princess

with moving eyes.

This is so epic.

We're going, like,
a cyrano de bergerac fencer.

Okay. I think we
should do the DJ, then.

- Ooh, a DJ and a fencer?
- I like that.

I've been fencing
since I was 18 years old.

So for this challenge, we're gonna
be making panachio de la mock.

- Panache.
- Panache.

Zack:
Panachio is the hybrid

of a European fencer
and Pinocchio.

All right, so, Billy, normally,
the brickmasters and I

like to stand here and remind people
what's going on in the challenge.

- Oh, that sounds like fun.
- Sure, but it's hard work.

Well, maybe for you,
but I think I can handle it.

- Oh, really?
- Yeah.

- Let's see what you got.
- Okay.

So, brickmasters,
what's up with this challenge?

How they gonna get their puppets
to be, like, smooth and moveable?

Well, that's actually
the trickiest part,

because they're not made
of fabric like you.

They have to be made of
lego bricks, which are very rigid.

So they gotta be very clever on
how they create rounded shapes,

but also allow
for that movement.

And we want them
to be loveable.

A little bit like yourself.

Aw, well, thank you.
I'm very loveable.

- Will: Wow.

Doesn't look like
they need me anymore.

We'll do a flexible arm
kind of thing.

I'll have two sticks
for arms here.

Obviously the key part
in any face is the eyes.

you know,
get together, just us.

Oh, are we... are we

So, each puppet has to
have a special skill

or something
that sets it apart.

What's gonna be the special
skill that sets yours apart?

Well, our puppet is a DJ.

Our puppet
is loosely based on me.

His name is DJ TREATZ,

and because my family's
from Jamaica,

we have to give him
a Jamaican accent.

He plays a lot of dub,
some reggae, some ska.

I like that.

Hopefully he's gonna have
some nice walking action.

- This guy's got legs.
- Oh! You got legs!

I know.
We'll hook you up.

Is there a little bit
of puppet envy going on?

I... I have, like,
a whole person down here.

I don't... I... wow.

You should have
your own show.

Figuring out
the mouth movement

will for sure be
a key part of it.

We're in the brick pit
and we're getting parts

to put together
a female puppet,

and Michelle grabs these
white half circle column pieces.

Maybe she wears
her hair in curlers?

Oh, my gosh,
that would be cute.

I'm thinking, what if
our puppet is a granny?

So I'm making a Betty bricks,

and she has got fabulous
curlers in her hair.

I'm excited to take our hand at
sculpting 'cause we haven't done that yet.

But the human face or body
is really difficult,

like,
in any regular art form.

So knowing that we have
to do that with lego pieces

does feel very daunting.

So, I'm nervous.

This is, like,
the scariest... sculpting.

Sculpting with lego is the sign
of a real lego master.

I need a sculpting piece.

It's very easy to stack bricks and
make squares and geometric shapes.

But to make curvature,
to make characters,

and create emotion,
that's really tough.

- Wow, nice work, huh?
- Thanks.

I love your hair.

- Oh, thank you.
- Very puppet-y.

Quite literally,
he's doing my check-ins now.

He's really funny. Everybody

Well, we were just

We are building Betty brick.

She is an older woman,
and she used to sing.

She's gonna show us

So, this challenge is different
from all the others

because teams are building a puppet
and pairing up to put on a show together.

Mark and Steven paired up
with Caleb and Jacob.

Historically rivals.

I'm curious to see
if it brings out

a collaborative side.

There we go.

Would it be okay
if we're puppet number two

since puppet number two is already
supposed to come in whistling or humming?

- That's... I'm down with it.
- Bryan: We can't whistle.

- We can't whistle, so that works.
- Okay, cool.

Will:
Lauren and Bryan are building

with Michelle and Natalie,
our diy moms.

Amy: Both of them,
they're super creative,

they have great aesthetics,
and they've shown us

they can do really playful
with the brick.

But in this challenge,
it's about how the build moves

and how it tells the story.

They need to be able
to talk, basically.

Sorry, guys, I just...
I noticed...

I think that puppet
is eating my lunch.

- Oh.
- Hey!

Oh, my gosh,
she's gonna be so heavy.

You know, the more one-hand
operation, the better.

For this challenge,
making it as light as possible,

easy to work with, is a very
important thing to think about.

We'll just put a rubber band right
there so I can pull it from there.

I am amazed to see
how quickly Wayne and Zack

have actually created a puppet
that has movement of the mouth.

They're already walking around,
they're talking to the other teams.

That is great. Oh, you got
the rubber bands in there.

- Yeah.
- You nailed it right off the bat.

So they're definitely
a team who are kind of

- running out in front right now.
- Yes.

We'll give him
a hat with panache.

Look at those
astonishing eyelashes.

- That looks good.
- It makes her face...

That's not a good facelift.

We need to make sure that
mechanism for his mouth works first, too.

For this challenge, we are
building Bernie the burnt-out dragon.

We want to be able
to keep the golden brick,

so we're gonna have to incorporate
a lot of motion into this build.

Even the arms moving
is not enough.

We need the face to move.
We need the mouth to move.

- Guys, how's it going?
- Pretty good.

- Who is this?
- My name's Bernie the dragon.

Look at that!
His eyebrows.

Are you gonna accentuate
those eyebrows?

If we have time.

Our teammates
are our enemies.

You have it in your head that
Caleb and Jacob are your enemies

even when they're
your teammates.

For reals, though, as much
as we love to bicker with them,

we also think Caleb and Jacob
are really great builders.

- They're great builders.

- So we're gonna have fun with them.
- And destroy them from within.

- So, what's the story?

Basically, we're gonna have our
two characters work off of each other.

So they're like, "well, why
don't we just be friends?"

So the Princess and the dragon
become friends?

- Best friends forever.
- Yeah.

I'm excited
to see that play out.

That will be fun.

Steven:
I'm feeling so good.

Our dragon has a great
expression, and, you know what?

I want to win this one.

We've still got
that golden brick,

but we need to make sure
nothing goes wrong.

If I wasn't a welder,
I'd be a puppeteer,

I'm just gonna
say it right now.

Hey, hey, what's that
in the camera?

That's the teleprompter.

I'm gonna read that
to let the teams know

that the challenge
is halfway done.

Wait a minute, so you just say
whatever they want you to say?

- Yeah.
- Wow. Who's the puppet now?

- What?
- Huh? Oh, nothing.

Five hours left!

- Whoa!
- What?

[ Panting ]

I feel comfortable
with this thing in my hand.

I think it could
go either way, I think?

There are lots of ways
of trying to have a mouth move

with a lego puppet,
but many of our teams

are using the whole head
to move up and down.

That is a lot of weight
to be moving back and forth,

and they need to make it look
effortless and perform in a show.

Okay, we really need
to get our head going.

This is really complicated
and really big.

For us, the hardest part
of this challenge

will be figuring out the mechanics
of making a workable puppet,

which is something
that we think we can do.

- Hello.
- Hi, guys.

Lauren and Bryan, hello.
And who is this?

Yeah, this is
our Princess pup.

So, this is inspired
by our puppy Hazel at home.

Right now, you're focusing
on the face,

and I think that is the
most critical part to get right

because that's where
all the emotion is.

I'm wondering how you're going
to approach the weight,

'cause you're gonna keep
building more and more of this.

- Correct.
- And the second is the movement.

So how are you approaching
those two things?

The head is heavy because that's
where all of our detail is.

It's gonna be strong,
so it's not gonna collapse.

And our mouth is moving
pretty much as much as it can.

Just be mindful when you're adding
more weight to make sure it can move.

Practicing is key so that you're
comfortable with the motion

and you can really show us
what your puppet can do.

Bryan: We're really
worried about motion.

If our motion doesn't work,

that could end up landing us
in the bottom two.

- So, it just doesn't...
- Oh, man.

Boy, this is so much fun.

So, the challenge this week is to
make our very own puppet out of lego.

Also, we're going to have to perform
a puppet show with another team.

to meet her friend.

The judges say that our build
is going to be very heavy

and we need to have
more movement.

So we're wanting to have the
ears kind of move with the wind.

Let's finish these ears
in the next hour, okay?

That will hopefully get it swaying back
and forth when the dog moves side to side.

Lauren: We grew up
building with lego,

and it's bonded Bryan
and I together so much.

Kind of looks nice
how it is, I think.

And now, whenever I look over,
I see what he's making

and just thinking, "this guy is so
smart and creative and incredible,"

and you just impress me
so much, honestly.

to stand out

Just trying to make sure
that these are gonna be

- sturdy enough to work.
- I think I was channeling my grandma,

'cause my grandma's name
is Betty... or was.

She's passed away.
It was Betty.

And so she wore
this shade of eyeshadow

and she did red lips
and curlers,

and I'm like,
"oh, my gosh.

Betty brick,
like, is my grandma."

Well, she's definitely
got a lot of personality,

and I'm really liking that you're
bringing in the grandmother cues...

- The pattern on the sweater.
- She doesn't look light.

Is there any aDJustments you feel
you need to make with the weight or...

- She's not too bad.

I love the two hands.

Well, I'm trying
to keep my hand here,

so I'll have to, like,
kind of balance her this way.

We've been playing around
with it a little bit.

You do have a couple
of hours left,

make sure that you are
aware of the weight

so you have enough
maneuverability.

And are the arms
actually secure?

I'm worried.
She's a little bit

more of a struggle
than what we thought.

whenever you guys are ready,

Sure, sure. My brother and I are
very fast and very strong builders.

But performing on the puppet
show stage? Never done that before.

We were able to get
a left arm here

that can fist bump
and also pump, too, so...

Dave and Richard: Oh.

- He didn't have that before, right?
- Yeah.

- We just added that.

Zack and Wayne
are pushing themselves

to do something very dynamic
with their puppet.

We want to make sure that our puppet
stands next to their puppet as an equal,

and we'll try to have
different kinds of motion.

We just gotta practice.

- Wow, time flies.

Princess Samantha is shaping out
to be a pretty large character.

It's too heavy.

While Bernie the burnt-out
dragon is a teeny-tiny dragon.

- Caleb and Jacob.
- Hey, hey.

How do you guys
feel about this?

A little nervous.
It's... it's the weight.

My arms are kind of like,
oh, they don't work anymore.

I'm very concerned
about my arms holding up,

and also my ability to
articulate in a meaningful way.

- It's a lot to think about.
- This is a for reals.

While you're doing this, if you're
not confident or whatever, just commit.

I'm being serious.
Just commit to it, stay in it.

Whatever your story is,
stay in it as much as possible.

That'll go a long way.
For real.

I appreciate that.

I'm feeling
a little overwhelmed,

and I'm not sure
if we set enough time aside

to practice all this.

They're not ready.
Their head isn't on.

Steven: We're a little concerned
with our partners Caleb and Jacob.

We're getting down to the wire
now, and they got a huge puppet.

It doesn't look like
it's finished.

But because we're teammates and
we depend on them for the performance,

we're not gonna mess
with them.

They're making me nervous.

Hopefully they get it done.

So, the curtain is about
to rise on the puppet show.

- How good do you feel?
- Those arms look pretty good.

Amy: You know, they spent
ages crafting them.

Now we want to
see them in action.

Now, we're down to
the final six teams now.

- The bar is being raised every week.
- Oh, yes.

A lot of the teams really know
how to make things strong.

Make sure you don't

So we are expecting that
their puppets will not break.

They need to survive
on the stage for a great show.

I knocked it off!

Ever since I was just
a little baby puppet,

I've wanted to do this.

One hour left!

[ Echoing ]

Oh, man. Okay.

Yes! I did it.

- All right, one hour.
- A little faster.

Okay, time for intense speed.

We're noticing that some of the
puppets are a bit smaller than ours.

I'll lift these
so there's symmetry.

But we feel good
about our build.

Ours jumps out
by having such a big face

that has so much personality.

We got this. Ooh!

Can you lower him, please?

One thing that we really wanted
to accomplish with this build

was to get the wings to have
a little bit of a wiggle,

little bit of a jiggle.

It's not working.

Mark:
No, it doesn't work.

- You don't need to have that tone.

We may have to scrap that
motion we were talking about.

There just isn't room
in the back of the dragon

'cause we have all that action
going on in the front.

His body is too
small and detailed.

Steven: I know they're
gonna say they don't

like him as much
because of that.

I'm really nervous
all of a sudden.

Are we gonna have
enough movement?

Mark: We may have
to use the golden brick.

It's been crazy.

I don't expect it
to get any less crazy.

We do have to do
a good job, though.

Be prepared
for my performance,

who need to be entertained.

I really hope that
the tipping of the hat

will really wow the judges.

We gotta really figure out,
like, this whole... - arm movement?

Natalie: I'm feeling
a little bit nervous.

Our puppet has to be sturdy.

If I turn her,
her arm's gonna pop off.

I think we should have
maybe less movement.

I don't want her arms to,
like, fall off.

That would be bad.

That looks so heavy.

We are building a hand puppet,

but instead of putting
the hand in the head,

we're putting the hand
in the body

because lego is heavy.

During our performance, we seem
to be hearing a lot of oohs and ahs.

At the very least,

I think all the puppets
are incredible.

right now are insanely good.

Which is incredible,
competing at this level.

But one misstep,
the smallest thing

at this point.

It's time to get to know
the stars of the puppet show.

Zack and Wayne, let's take
a look at your puppet.

Zack:
This is panachio de la mock.

Wayne: We have a very
poseable arm, great for fencing with.

He also has
an opening mouth,

and that also actuates
the tilting of the eyes,

and then the hat tips up.

Do you guys want to just show us
a little bit of that motion?

Ha-ha! I tip my hat to you.

- Awesome.
- Zack and Wayne, I think you have created

a very original character here.

Love the cape. It actually
looks like it's flowing like fabric,

which I think is very clever.

I love that you were able to link
movement between the eyes and the mouth.

It helped you perform more.
I think it's really beautiful. Well done.

Dave and Richard, let's take
a look at your puppet.

Richard:
Our puppet is DJ TREATZ.

Dave and I really
worked together

to bring out as much
movement as possible,

and as much style
and character.

Dave and Richard,
I think when you start

moving the head on that puppet

and the hair
goes along with it

and bounces everywhere,

that's when your puppet
really comes alive,

which was really nice
to see in the performance.

But I feel like
when you get down to the body,

it gets a little bit more
blocky and it loses

a little bit
of that attitude.

But overall, a really,
really great character,

and it really stands out.
Great job, you guys.

Dave: I feel a bit
of disappointment.

I am super proud
of our puppet.

Richard: I feel like
we gave our a-game.

Yeah, and our build
shows that.

Caleb and Jacob, let's
take a look at your puppet.

Caleb: This is Princess
Samantha. She's a little sassy.

Jacob: We wanted to
include an opening mouth,

rolling eyes,
and of course,

eyebrows say a lot
in an expression

to really demonstrate
that sassiness.

I'm almost speechless
because when this character

was onstage,
every part was moving.

The arms were moving,
the eyes were spinning.

You got the sassy head.
Like, what an effort.

Yeah, every movement you had
added to the emotion.

Really great job,
you guys, congrats.

Mark and Steven, you're up.

Steven: I'm excited,
but also really nervous.

Everyone has done so well.

The other teams
have great characters.

Were you nervous
about the golden brick?

- Early on, a little bit.
- Just a hair.

But later down the road,
it started to really take shape.

The build that we made is
Bernie the burnt-out dragon.

He is just ready
for a vacation.

Yeah, so we got the eye
movements, we got the mouth.

It's all controlled
from one hand.

Wow, can you guys sculpt!

I love that we're seeing
such a different side of you.

Not a brick
or a straight line in sight,

and some of those curves
are just so beautiful.

Bryan: Here we have
Hazel the Princess pup.

She is inspired by our own
puppy Hazel at home.

She has a moving mouth
and she's also a Princess.

Can you guys pick her up and

- Bryan: Oh, absolutely, yeah.

[ English accent ] my name
is Hazel the Princess pup.

You guys have made such
a cute character here,

and so much of it lies
in those big eyes.

But for me, it really came down to
how moveable was it as a puppet?

Where I was really hoping that not
only would the mouth move more,

but you had
those floppy ears,

and you really weren't
taking advantage

of as much movement
as you could.

I mean, these guys are
making puppets out of lego.

- It's pretty amazing, right?
- Yeah.

We did build our puppet
with movement incorporated,

but I think
during the performance,

I got so caught up
in elements such as the voice

and really doing the performance
that at times I forgot to move the mouth

and showcase its movement
a little bit better.

I'm just a little bit nervous 'cause we
are the only team that had a mishap.

I just hope the brickmasters
can see value in what we do.

build from our hearts.

Betty bricks is a granny

with a lot of sass
and personality.

She's got moveable arms

You did have a little arm
pop off during the show,

which was a shame,
but what a fun character.

Where I think
I'm the most impressed

is how you've created
the face.

You have used
so few bricks there

to get so much character
and personality.

to create humans,

The way the mouth is so big.

As a puppet, however, it
was more of a solid structure

that you had to move carefully
rather than embrace and perform.

you made such a great character,

a few structural issues

that meant that the arm fell
off during the performance,

and your build was a little bit
on the blocky side.
