(Yawn)

Morning.

(Scream)

Why didn't you guys wake me up?

Maria is gonna be here any minute,

And I haven't finished putting the press packs together yet.

What kind of assistant manager am i,

If I can't even do this one little thing for her.

(Helen reading) ...and stress is one of the biggest problems

Facing people today.

Oh, you're using the table?

I'll go work in the living room.

Sharon, breakfast!

I don't have time.

Sweetie, you know how I feel about skipped meals.

But I have all this stuff to do

Before maria gets here.

A bowl of cereal and some fruit

Doesn't take long to prepare.

Reading: the need to keep up with email, faster computers

And life in general...

Life in general?

Ugh, sounds bush-league.

Sharon: what are you doing, mom?

I'm giving a speech on coping with stress

To the psych society tomorrow.

"Coping with stress."

Hm, maybe I should read it

After I finish the press packs.

(Sigh) you can't.

I'm only half done.

Ahh!

Hm... Looks like we're having the some kind of day.

(Doorbell)

I'm just finishing the press packs now and-

(Snoring)

Maria!

Huh?

Oh.

Sharon: what's wrong with you?

You look like you haven't slept a wink.

Maria: well, I tried to sleep in,

But you know that festival music scout

I've been waiting to hear from?

Sharon: he finally called?

Maria: yes, at 6:30 this morning.

Ewww!

Maria: from the east coast.

Don't they know we're three hours behind?

Sharon: so? Is he coming to check out the guys tonight?

Maria: no.

Sharon: no!

Maria: right.

(Sigh) I already called the guys.

They weren't happy.

After you spent the last two weeks working so hard

To get everything perfect?

(Sigh) I don't even know how you did it.

Don't go crazy. Stay cool.

(Groan) and forget about sleep.

I'm seriously thinking about quitting, sharon.

Sharon: the band?

But you're their manager,

Their promoter, their, their biggest fan!

Exactly!

They leave everything for me to do.

I'm like cinderella.

Only instead of three stepsisters...

You have carmen, alden and brock.

Who take me for granted.

Things always look worse when you're tired, maria.

(Phone rings)

Maria: where's my cell?

Oh.

I think I need to go home and get some sleep.

Would you do me a favour?

Anything.

Could you pick up brock's guitar at the music store?

It's the only thing left to do.

Definitely.

Maria: are you sure?

Sharon: I'll take care of everything. I promise.

Sharon: how's your "coping with stress" speech coming along?

Helen: not bad considering the psych society meeting is tomorrow

And it's only half written.

(Sigh) I'll be less stressed when it's done.

You can handle it, mom. Just stay cool.

Bye.

(Gasp) sharon?

Sharon: hmm?

Helen: I hate to ask,

But would you do me a favour?

Sure.

Helen: would you look after the twins today?

The twins?

Yes.

David's at a seminar, his ex-wife is out of town

And I promised to do it

Because I thought I'd be finished this by now.

A couple of quiet hours would really help me.

Okay, I can do this.

Drop off the press packs, pick up brock's guitar,

And then come back to look after the twins.

Oh, thank you, sweetie.

I really apprec-

Sharon: bye!

Sharon: don't worry, brock, I promised maria I'd pick up your bass.

Sharon: and here're the press packs.

Sharon: she forgot it.

Maria wong can't come to the phone right now.

Please leave a message.

Oh! Sorry.

Yes? Yes?

Of course they will!

You're going to love it!

And this had to happen.

But I promised I'd take care of it,

And that's exactly what I was going to do.

Sharon: uh, I don't understand.

The scout told me that maria told him

That you do have a new song!

Brock: why would she do that?

Alden: well... I was sort of working on one.

And you sort of mentioned it to maria?

Carmen: but sort of forgot to mention it to us?

Alden: sort of.

And no drumsticks.

(Urgent dialing)

We have to deal with it. I promised maria.

Just remember, don't go crazy. Stay cool...

And finish that song!

Sharon: hello? Excuse me?

Yoo-hoo?

Hello? I'm sorry! Do you work here?

Yo! Pickin' up what?

Repaired bass.

The name's brock.

You could have just asked.

Helen: sharon...

Oh, no. I didn't forget.

Well, the twins are here

And can't wait for you to pick them up.

Sharon: hi, guys! How's it going?

Alden?

Alden: creative differences.

What do you mean creative differences?

Well, brock thinks the chorus should go da-da-da da!

And carmen thinks it should go da da da-da!

Sharon: that's it!

The creative difference

Is a matter of where to emphasize the da?

Are they nuts?

Alden: I think it's been building up.

Carmen thinks drums are the backbone of the band,

But brock thinks its bass.

I think its guitar,

But I know I'll get them mad if I say so.

All right. Where do you think they went?

Alden: ah, carmen smoothies out when he's mad

And brock should be sh**ting hoops.

And the song, how far did you get?

(Four note whistle, then adding one note)

Alden, that's no where near a whole song.

I'm going now.

You better have more by the time I get back.

No. First the twins, then the guys.

Notes, alden!

We need more notes!

(Whistling rapidly)

Sharon: mom, I really do need to get going.

Helen: (groan) one of the twins has a bit of a tummy ache

She should be out of the bathroom soon.

Sharon: I don't know how maria does everything she does

Without loosing her temper or freaking out or, or...

Or anything.

Clearly she handles stress well.

I know. But how?

Helen: why don't we review my suggestions

For coping with stress.

I don't have time.

You have to wait anyway

And this may help you calm down.

Fine.

Now, assess you current stressors

And see how you respond to them.

I had one little thing to do

Which turned into more things to do

And it's freaking me out.

Hmm...

What internal thoughts are causing you to freak out?

The thoughts that maria doesn't ask me for much

And when she does,

I don't want to make a mess of it.

So you feel pressured?

Of course I feel pressured.

But when maria asked for help

She didn't know that things would got wrong, did she?

No.

You were only supposed to pick up brock's bass.

Right.

So why do you feel like you should be handling stuff

You were never supposed to handle.

Because she does it all the time.

So you're comparing yourself to maria.

I guess.

Helen: but like you said,

She does it all the time.

Doesn't that mean

She's more use to dealing with the band

And all the possible problems that might come up?

Yes, but I should be able to handle just one of the days

She handles all the time.

Is that what maria expects?

Probably not.

Then why don't you just take the pressure off yourself?

(Toilet flushing)

Sharon: okay, she's out of the bathroom. Gotta run!

Sharon: come on, carmen.

The band really needs you.

No drums. No band.

You're the backbone, carmen.

I knew I shouldn't have ordered the jumbo juleps.

Sharon: nice shot.

Twins: (screams, giggles)

Brock: call them off, will ya?

Sharon: down, guys.

Sharon: brock, the band really needs you.

No bass, no band.

You're the backbone and you know that.

The backbone?

You really mean it?

Sharon: of course.

I'm done here.

Let's go.

Brock: chill, dudes.

The backbone of the band's back.

And so is my four string baby!

I thought I was the backbone.

(Giggle) who said there can't be two backbones?

Right.

So, did you get my sticks?

Sharon: oops. I forgot them, carmen.

Brock: (horrified scream)

What've they done to my baby?

Sharon: I really wanted to do my best for maria,

But things were going from bad to worse.

Was this was one promise I wouldn't be able to keep?

Brock: it's my case, but it's definitely not my bass!

It's a, a banjo.

Sharon: well, it does have four strings.

(Banging on the metal tub)

Sharon: quieter, please.

Brock: at the store, you didn't deal with...

(Unison groan)

Carmen: no wonder the bass got mixed up.

Sharon: not quiet enough.

Alden: maria never deals with that guy.

All: maria!

Alden: sharon, I think the time has come for us to call her.

Really.

(Snoring)

Sharon: no. No one's waking her up.

I told you. She asked me to help

And well... That's what I'm going to do.

Freeze!

Okay, you help with the song.

I'll take care of this.

And your sticks!

And no creative differences while I'm gone!

C'mon, you two.

Twins: (giggles)

(Phone rings)

Sharon: not now.

Helen: sharon.

Oh, mom. Hi.

Helen: my computer crashed.

I'm trying to put the speech together by hand.

Sharon: oh. How're you doing?

Let's just say I'm now even more equipped

To deal with the topic of stress.

How's it going with the twins?

Sharon: okay.

But I'm glad they're not triplets.

Helen: well, you'll be pleased to hear

That david's on his way over to pick them up right now.

Sharon: oh, but uh...

I thought that was good news.

Sharon: it is, but I kinda have to go get something right now.

I don't know what else to do.

(Phone rings)

Maria: yeah. It's okay, I'll play shortstop.

(Sigh)

Brock: my baby!

Sharon: uh-uh.

It's still the banjo.

I had to take the twins home

And then the music store was closed.

I'm really sorry.

Sharon: it's all my fault.

I told the scout you'd be playing your new song.

I messed up brock's bass,

Carmen: and you didn't get my drumsticks, twice.

(Alden slaps carmen) hey!

Alden: c'mon, sharon.

Don't beat yourself up about it.

Sharon: I never should've promised maria.

Carmen: you were just trying to help.

Brock: and we weren't.

We're the ones to blame, spitz. Not you.

I mean any self-respecting drummer

Carmen: and someone writing a song

Should tell the rest of the band about it.

Alden: not to mention that bass players

Can pick up their own instruments.

It's not like they're grand pianos or something.

All: it's their fault!

Brock: okay. Okay. We all messed up.

Sharon: now what?
