For us to take down Why-man,
we'll need our best pilot manning the controls.
But that's not me.
Senku.
Got a scenario for you.
Let's say you're a knight living
in some imaginary medieval kingdom.
As these tales often go,
you fall madly in love with the princess
and plan a future together.
But there's a more appropriate man for her to marry,
the young prince of a neighboring kingdom.
Their union would help usher in peace throughout the land.
As a man of science, what would you do?
What in the hell are you babbling about?
Get to the point.
A man of science prioritizes effectiveness.
If there was someone that was 10,000,000,000% more apt for the job
I'd have to step aside.
You knew what the answer would be before you even asked, didn't you?
Well, you're no fun.
Yes, he would be the most suited for the task at hand.
I would raise no objection.
He's trying to play it cool by hiding his face,
but he can't completely hide his emotions.
Like master, like apprentice, right, Senku?
Though I must admit, I'm surprised.
Stan is the ultimate soldier, and we make quite a pair.
Are you not worried that he and I will try to take over the world again?
The world's in a much better place these days.
So that's not happening.
Am I wrong?
Men of science value effectiveness.
That's why I believe we can trust you.
Realistically speaking, I know this decision is gonna cause some worry.
If anyone objects, you can tell them I threatened you, that if you didn't awaken him,
I told you I would sabotage the rocket engine.
Naw, we'll just tell them the truth.
Listen, Xeno, you don't have to play the villain all the time, you know?
The thing is, whether you like it or not,
you're already a core member of the Kingdom of Science.
One of our leaders, in fact.
You say Stanley Snyder?
Wake him up?
And let him fly the spaceship?
Ta-da!
May I present to you our insurance policy?
It's a different take on being a VIP's bodyguard.
If Stan happens to make an attempt at a revolution,
this man here will beat me into a bloody pulp.
Essentially, I'll be a hostage.
But why him?
That psycho might try to k*ll us right when he wakes up!
That won't happen.
Stanley is a soldier through and through.
He follows orders and does what the mission requires.
It's who he has always been.
He's so scary!
We can't just let him walk free!
That's all the more reason, huh?
This moon mission is going to be very dangerous.
Saving all of humanity is on the line.
This would be the ultimate redemption for him.
And you're cool with all this, Ryusui?
We're both top-tier pilots, but my marksmanship--
What I mean is,
I thought you were hyped AF to go to the moon.
Most of all, I want the best person for the most important job.
Nothing less than perfection.
What else would you expect from the world's greediest man?
So what's the job?
Wow.
Getting right down to business without missing a beat.
Stanley is a man of action and true to his word.
Plus, he's always at the ready.
Suppose you fired a one-pound b*llet with a muzzle velocity of 600 meters per second.
On the moon, acceleration due to gravity is a sixth of that on Earth.
Assume a drag of zero.
Your target is a Medusa device.
That's one kilometer away.
A firing angle of 0.3 degrees ought to do the trick.
The math actually checks out.
Does this guy do it with pure intuition?
So can you, Stan?
Yeah, I can do that.
I may have given up my seat on the rocket,
but I should still focus on my skills as a backup.
That's my duty as a pilot.
Am I wrong?
Impressive as always, Ryusui.
Your greed extends beyond your own personal desires.
You want what is best for all of humanity.
That's why you gave up your seat to Stanley
despite nobody asking you to.
No need for you to comfort me.
I wanted to go.
Dammit!
Dammit!
You got all bullseyes at this range?
That's incredible!
Not me.
What do you think they could be making this time?
They've got mannequins for Senku, Kohaku and Stanley.
So that's gotta mean--
Spacesuits!
It's like Senku said,
there are three essentials for space travel--
a spaceship, a rocket engine, and spacesuits.
It's coming together.
Yep. That means we're almost ready to take the fight to Why-man.
Question, what's the deal with this so-called vinyl stuff?
I guess you Ishigami folks wouldn't know.
It didn't even exist in your time.
It's kind of weird, huh?
Y'all have built rockets, but you've never heard of vinyl until today.
We had to build an oil refinery first to make it.
The order's opsy-tay urvy-tay.
Humanity's been doing a real speedrun on rocket science.
We've completely neglected everything else.
It could be a while.
So let's build something before launch.
I'll make you anything your hearts desire.
Washing machine!
- A camcorder!
- Game consoles!
Protein powder!
Robot maid!
I want--
Slot machines! Microwaves! Jacuzzis! Wine cellars!
Yeah.
No, not all that.
I want all the things!
We've already crafted ourselves cell phones and radar.
This is pretty similar to that stuff.
All you got to do is bounce an insane amount of radio waves inside a metal box and--
Microwave oven acquired!!
Hot! Hot!
That's amazing.
The rice was cold a second ago.
Now it's hot and without any fire.
The radio waves get the water inside the food all riled up.
It's kind of same reason your TV signal sucks when it's raining
because you're nuking the raindrops just a little bit.
That's right.
And speaking of nuking up some food,
if we take a bit of the vinyl we made for the spacesuits
and stretch it thin
Bam! we got plastic wrap!
Plastic wrap acquired!!
After all this, we're going back to eating like it's the 21st century.
They always seem to craft this kind of food related stuff super early.
Ryusui must have felt like eating something in particular, and we all know his thoughts on greed.
Next, washing machine!
Yay!
Washing machine acquired!!
And film!
Yeah!
Heating pads!
Yeah.
OK.
Iron heats up when it rusts, so--
Hey, I'm pretty sure that I can handle this one.
Iron powder, plus some sheets of saltwater should do it.
Oh, yeah!
You know what I want, don't ya?
A smartphone, yeah?
Here we go.
Wait.
For real?
You can make that?
Senku, are you serious?
We're making an LCD smartphone touchscreen.
That's crazy!
So what exactly is liquid crystal, anyway?
It's not actually one specific type of crystal,
just the term for when a crystal is watery instead of solid,
since that would be its most common form.
Hence liquid crystal.
There are a bunch of ways to make it.
For example, we use the toluene extracted
from n-butylaniline with some petroleum
synthesized from aniline.
Yeah, those examples don't mean anything to me.
We carve subtle, uniform vertical grooves on glass
and pour our precious liquid crystal onto it.
We want it to settle cleanly inside those grooves.
Take some more glass and turn it the other way.
Now we'll want to squeeze the liquid crystal between those perpendicular grooves,
and it'll kind of twist itself into place.
This creates a pathway for light,
albeit more of a twisty tunnel.
OK, let's zap it with some electricity and a-- boop.
When the liquid crystals become electrified,
they straighten out
and the light can't go through the twisty tunnel anymore.
Those parts of the screen will appear blank to us.
Oh, yeah, I see now.
I mean, I could see it too, but I'm not really seeing it.
I don't really understand it either, but I know I can make the thing.
But I can see how the stuff turns black,
at least when you run an electric current through it anyway.
Finally, cover the liquid crystal display with two sheets of vinyl.
Man, this vinyl stuff is, like, hella useful, isn't it?
Whenever you press down on it,
it allows the electricity to pass through.
And that's how you make a liquid-crystal touch screen.
Smartphone acquired!!
Oh, wow!
I can hardly believe it's real.
An actual smartphone!
And the thing's tiny, too.
Yeah!
That thing is freaking huge!
We're calling it a smartphone,
but really, it's just a computer.
Enjoy your 40-kilo smartphone.
Who cares how much it weighs,
as long as the phone part fits in my hand?
Check it out.
The touch screen lets you send messages.
And you can even play games.
Crazy.
It's a legit smartphone.
That's cool.
He really did it.
Senku made a liquid-crystal display
to make his bestest buddy's dream come true.
It's got me cutting onions over here!
Yeah, right. There's gotta be some other reason he made that thing.
You mean my ulterior motive?
Figures.
We need liquid crystal displays for the spaceship.
Vacuum tube displays are ridiculously vulnerable to vibration.
It's not only slick,
it also saves us some volume and mass.
And keeping those stats in check is pivotal for our piecemeal bring-everyone-home-alive rocket.
Crew capsule acquired!!
It's amazing, isn't it?
It's like a chain coming together one link at a time.
Making one long road map of science.
We did it.
We finally reached that distant goal,
starting with a single stone.
How elegant.
We're ready for departure.
Onward to the lunar battle!
Moon rocket completed!!
Hot diggity!
Kohaku, please try to stay out of danger.
And promise you'll come back home to us safely.
Don't worry.
Hey, don't tell me you're getting cold feet now that it's finally time to hop on the rocket.
Do you know who you're talking to?
It's time for our final showdown against Why-man.
Sheer chance strikes again.
Your military prowess and my science
must join forces once more for the greater good.
Chance or otherwise, it's not just us anymore.
True.
I can't deny it.
Now we have Senku's team.
No, the whole world on our side.
There's no smoking in space.
Chewing tobacco designed to emulate a cigarette,
since you can't go without.
Kohaku, you're a skilled martial artist.
And, Stanley, you are the best shot around.
You're the most powerful duo the moon has ever seen.
You can handle anything.
You just had to go and steal my ticket to the moon, didn't you?
Which means you gotta earn it.
So you had better go up there and take down Why-man.
Am I wrong?
Or rather...
can you do it?
I can, no doubt about it.
I can't say goodbye!
You can't make me!
I only just reunited with Senku.
Now he's leaving the planet and there's a chance he could die!
It's not like I'm stressing. I always keep cool.
Capable women like me don't worry about things like imminent doom or space catastrophes.
It'll be OK.
You'll come back safe and sound, right?
Yeah.
No need to worry.
The fatality rate in space is historically around 5%.
So those odds aren't bad.
Is that supposed to be comforting?
Well, today's the day.
We're celebrating the moon launch we worked so hard for,
but it's still scary.
If this rocket fails like the other ones--
Worry not, for eal-ray.
It's under control.
Remember, they're going to be petrified for their little lunar mission.
So even if something goes horribly wrong and they wind up in bits and pieces,
we'll just have to find their missing parts and then piece them back together again.
Yeah.
I wouldn't count on it.
Even our big oaf wouldn't be able to pull off something like that.
No problem!
It'll all work out.
Nothing's gonna go wrong!
But on the off chance something happens,
I will gather every last bit of you,
even if it takes me decades!
Then Yuzuriha will glue you back together good as new!
You're so determined, I'm 10 billion percents sure you'd really try to do it.
We wouldn't try, we'd make it happen.
That's a promise.
You can count on us.
You know, we just might.
I know there's not a lot we can do to help,
but we're cheering for you.
We know you can do it.
Senku!
Stanley!
My girl!
I take it you're the Kaseki?
That's me.
And you must be young Joel.
We can finally have that long-overdue toast
between us two craftsmen, masters of the Stone World.
Time to pop in the old battery.
You've napped long enough, Medusa.
So fast.
Somehow they work even better in tandem.
In this Stone World with only Stone-Age technology at our disposal, we built a rocket to take us to the moon.
Now this enormous project has come to fruition
and the Kingdom of Science is about to blast off!
Aboard this historic flight,
our science-minded leader, Ishigami Senku,
our strongest, fastest warrior, Kohaku,
and a world-class pilot and marksman,
Stanley Snyder completes the trio.
Five meters in one second.
Medusa's light.
That same eerie glow once brought humanity to the brink of extinction.
Now it's ours, an invaluable tool that we're using to safeguard our heroes
as they leave Earth behind.
Wait a sec.
Aren't they worried that Medusa's gonna misfire again?
Isn't the whole mission screwed if that happens?
We couldn't ascertain the cause nor replicate it.
There is no alternative.
So we must accept the inherent risk for the duration of the mission.
It's out of our control.
All we can do is hope.
It's time.
Switching them over to onboard power.
All tank pressures read nominal.
Injecting water.
It's looking like all systems are nominal.
T minus 60 seconds.
There's no telling what awaits our intrepid crew on the moon!
We're moments away from launch!
Main engine, ignition.
Booster ignition.
It's hella quiet when you're petrified.
I don't hear a single thing that's going on outside.
Can't even feel the vibrations.
As long as old Dr. Xeno has things under control-- nah,
I know he's got this.
The countdown's at five.
This takes me back.
That first time, I got petrified,
from that day on for 3,700 years,
I counted up each and every second.
But now I'm counting down.
With human ingenuity, with science,
we'll reset the world's petrification,
blasting off from that same Earth to set things right.
And lift off.
All metrics nominal, and within acceptable tolerances.
We did it!
Readjust trajectory.
