[theme music]

[instrumental music]

Will this do, major?

There's been some drift, of course, but, uh..

Yes, I'm sure this is close enough.

We'll find our own way from here.

I hope you don't have any difficulty finding us again.

Just remember to keep a heading

of East-Northeast from the pier.

'A trawler will pick you up'

six miles off the coast Thursday afternoon.

You transfer back to the submarine at night.

Well, I'm..

I'm proud to have met you.

I extend every good wish

for a successful mission.

[music continues]

I feel like Robinson Crusoe ready to face the savages.

It's silly to be so homesick so soon, huh?

No, not at all silly.

- Here, let me take this. - Thank you, major.

Call me Damien from now on.

You down there! Halt!

What's the trouble, sailor?

You're on navy property, ma'am.

What are you doing here?

We were just walking.

I'm awfully sorry. We certainly didn't mean to, uh..

Where are you from?

The motel. The Elite. On route 32.

Motel's a good three miles North.

Look, we just wanted to get some air.

If we're trespassing, we apologize.

- Okay, you people come with me. - Why?

Because a mile and a half North of here, mister

there's a chain link fence

that goes from the highway to the waters edge.

There's a sign in it that says "Property, US Navy."

Alright.

[g*nf*re]

[dramatic music]

- Bad? - No, but painful.

I'm sorry, it'll have to wait.

Come on.

[instrumental music]

[theme music]

Tonight's episode, "The Hostage."

[engine rumbling]

It began on the morning of November 17th

when the body of an American sailor was found

on a government beach at Fort Frances, Virginia.

Because an act of m*rder had been committed

on government property

the FBI was notified at once.

At first, the possibility of sabotage was indicated.

But before this case file was closed

one of Europe's most prominent statesman would be kidnapped

in an American city

and offered in exchange

for one of the most important communist spies

ever captured by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Inspector Erskine? Lieutenant Craig.

How are you, lieutenant? This is Jim Rhodes.

- How do you do? - Jim.

I don't know how thoroughly you've been briefed on this.

Well, I understand the sailor was on routine guard duty.

Yes, that's right.

He was really found an hour or so after he'd been shot.

And we discovered a breach in our perimeter fence

about a mile from here.

Agents tell us that the barbed wire at the top of the fence

was cut from the inside.

There was no evidence there or anywhere else

that there had been any penetration

from the outside in.

We also found a small piece of cloth

that had snagged on the fence.

We didn't touch it.

Well, we'll see if it's anything we should forward to the lab.

- Your people all accounted for? - Yes, sir.

What about radar sightings, lieutenant? Anything unusual?

Just a normal compliment of trawlers.

Private and commercial fishing boats, that sort of thing.

Ah, lieutenant..

What weapon did the sentry carry?

Thirty caliber Carbine.

[Lewis] This looks like a .32.

Incidentally, the sentry's weapon had been fired once.

We found a spot of blood further up the beach.

See that all doctors and hospitals

around here are notified.

[Craig] 'Well, what do you make of it, inspector?'

I guess the big question now is

where is he?

Well, that may be question number two.

I think the main one is..

...what are they after?

[instrumental music]

[soft music playing]

[knock on door]

[music stops]

[knocking continues]

Hello, Roger. Are we interrupting anything?

Hello. Come on in. You're just in time for a drink.

[Roger] Where in the name of reason have you been?

We ran into a little trouble.

What's this, blood? What happened?

Some idiot selected our landing point

practically on top of a naval installation.

Wonder which idiot that could have been, Porter, hmm?

Well, don't look at me. I just do what I'm told.

Did you bring the things we asked for?

- Yes. - The medical kit?

It's right here.

Keep the water running on that.

Will you please tell me what happened?

We were spotted by a naval sentry.

We had to k*ll him.

He nicked Veltran.

Well, at least, something has gone right.

- Is that his daughter with him? - Jana.

Hm. Very attractive girl.

Do you have, uh, Dieter's room number?

Call the hospital.

How long a journey is it?

Little under two hours.

Hello, garage, please. Doctor's entrance.

[telephone rings]

Garage. Reilly.

Sorry, wrong number.

[snaps finger] Oh, I'll also need

the name of the chief of surgery.

Harton.

What kind of security is around Dieter?

Oh, there's nothing to be afraid of.

His daughter has been with him all day.

And a male secretary, Gerd Esling.

Esling.

Don't underestimate Esling.

He and I fought the Nazis together.

Well, how's the arm?

You mean apart from the constant unbearable agony?

It's fine.

The costumes are in the closet, I presume.

- No, they're in the car. - Get them.

Just a minute, major, you're not in Central Europe now.

I'm not one of your soldiers.

Get them!

Porter.

I hope whichever idiot was in charge

of selecting the car chose a big one

because we shall have to hide Dieter in the back

when we get him out.

There's plenty of room.

The bureaucrat in all his glory.

Nothing to be afraid of.

Don't seem very fearful either.

You're happy now, aren't you, Damien?

Well, the submarine was rather confining.

The fishing boat wasn't much better.

I think it's something more than that.

Your commando on a raid.

I mean, here we are, three handpicked specialists

in a strange country.

An army major to do the leading, thinking.

'An Olympic athlete to do the kidnapping.'

And doctor to keep the victim alive.

In a few hours, every policeman in America

will be looking for us.

And I could swear you're having the time of your life.

Almost as good as the w*r, hmm?

Almost.

Now the rifling characteristics of the b*llet indicate

it may have been fired from a foreign made automatic p*stol.

And what about the cartridge casings?

Well they're 7.65 millimeters in size.

European made.

That's interchangeable with the 32 caliber.

Good, you're still here.

I'd like to talk to both of you for a minute, please.

Are you working in on the Fort Frances m*rder?

Yeah.

Well, I may have to put somebody else on it.

How come?

This is George Kruger.

Army considers him the most reliable intelligence source

'in the Eastern zone.'

He just had meeting with an American agent in West Berlin.

He's learned that the Reds are goin' to try to free

Frederic Sterne sometime next week.

Sterne?

How?

I don't know, that's all the information he had.

No, Art. Either the report's wrong or Kruger's misinformed.

I worked on the Sterne case.

The reason I know is, that he put in a request for parole

in August and was turned down.

So the thing's impossible.

Now the warden in Atlanta agrees with you.

But there are other ways to free a prisoner.

Yeah, but Art, a prison break takes what, six or eight men?

And a communist spy isn't the most

popular inmate to begin with.

The army says that..

...every bit of information Kruger's given them

has always checked out...finally.

Sir, has the warden been able to talk to inmate informants yet?

He's looking into that right now.

And he's doubling the security guard around Sterne.

Just in case.

There is one other possibility, of course, isn't there?

An exchange?

Trade Sterne for some of the other Reds they're holding.

'Of course the big question is'

who would the United States government

want returned that badly?

[intense music]

Hello, Reilly.

I wonder if you remember me, Dr. Wynatt.

I came in this afternoon with Dr. Harton.

We're going directly to surgery.

Oh, yes, doctor. Good to see you again.

'Thank you, Reilly'

[intense music]

[mumbling incoherently]

[mumbling continues]

Gerd?

- Yes, what? - It's alright.

I just wanted to tell you that I'm going home.

Would you like me to have a nurse

come in for a little while?

No, no, no, a nurse. Why?

I can give him anything he needs.

But I thought that you'd like to sleep.

No, not in the least.

I couldn't even if I wanted to.

I tried, I can't close my eyes.

I see.

Alright.

Jana.

He's in good shape.

A little heart murmur is not gonna bother Anton Dieter.

They'll release him tomorrow, you'll see.

- Goodnight, Gerd. - Goodnight.

[intense music]

Hey, nobody said anything to me about injections.

It's a vitamin supplement.

We've had great success with it lately.

Excuse me, do you know the name of the nurse

that just walked by?

I think.. No, I'm sorry, I don't.

But the head nurse will be here in a few minutes.

I could swear I have seen her before.

Uh, here in the hospital probably.

No, not in the hospital.

Good God.

[music continues]

Then maybe that's good.

He seemed weaker, these last few months.

What are you doing to my father?

- Marie Louise, chloroform. - There he is.

Hello, Gerd.

[intense music]

[theme music]

Mr. Ward.

Thanks.

- Lewis. - Art.

I took every step I could to have the hospital area

sealed off before I left the house.

Esling's still in surgery.

They removed the b*llet, but they don't expect him

to regain consciousness for hours, perhaps for days.

- Oh, boy. - First report was he was dead.

And I think we'll let that impression stand.

We're looking for two men and a woman.

The guard who admitted their car

gave us fairly detailed descriptions.

- What about the daughter? - She's upstairs, under guard.

I mean, do her descriptions tally?

I don't know, she wont talk to us.

- She won't what? - Well..

I'll approach her little later, when she's had some rest.

Well, you can't waste time, Lewis.

'Cause Dieter's like..

...Masaryk and Zenting and Washington rolled up into one.

We gave him asylum, we've gotta get him back.

Even if the price is Fredric Sterne?

Ah, you think there's a connection there too, huh?

Has to be, Art.

Sailor at Fort Frances must have run into a landing party.

'Thank you.'

The foreigners just called down.

Jana Dieter's leaving the hospital.

Establish an immediate surveillance.

I'll the SAC, Atlanta.

The want a complete summary on Sterne since

the day the gates closed behind him.

Alright.

[instrumental music]

[birds chirping]

Now your blood pressure's normal.

And your temperature's normal.

You know, most patients have an irrepressible desire to talk

once the thermometer's been removed.

[music continues]

Is something wrong? Are the cuffs too tight?

Would you like something to eat?

No, thank you.

Is my daughter alive?

Yes, of course.

Esling?

No.

[music continues]

Damian, I think he's going to be fine.

But the heart is going to be a continuing problem

as we thought.

It's too bad we have to keep this

ancient fascist pig alive.

Oh, will you shut up?

Look, I told you two, I will not be talked to--

Roger, this lady is a doctor who was sent

to keep the patient alive.

You, on the other hand, were not sent here

to hurl insults at him.

Now Anton D!

How would you like to have the blind fold removed?

What is the price of sight?

Merely to read a few speeches.

Half a page.

You read them first.

Certainly.

"I, Anton Dieter..

"...am glad to have escaped from the confines

'of a w*r-mongering imperialistic--'"

That is absolutely ludicrous and you know it.

You don't like my speech?

I worked very hard on this.

I wouldn't read garbage like that

when you people had a g*n up my head.

I won't do it now.

[Damian on speaker] "I, Anton Dieter..

"...am glad to have escaped from the confines

"of a w*r-mongering imperialistic--"'

[Anton] That is absolutely ludicrous and you know it.

[Damian] You don't like my speech? I worked very hard on this.

[Anton] I wouldn't read garbage like that

when you people had a g*n up my head.

I won't do it now.

You record beautifully, Anton D.

Anyone one would be convinced that you're alive..

'in a reasonably decent state of health'

and in full possession of your senses.

Don't you agree?

Roger, you get this off right, right away.

Oh, um..

Just...that hospital attendant would have

described the limousine we were driving to the FBI.

I have a replacement available.

I don't like that man.

He doesn't seem too be too fond of you either, Marie Louise.

Oh, well, we can't please everybody.

I'll be back shortly.

[mellow music]

It's beautiful.

Yes, beautiful, indeed.

All those days on the submarine

you were so cool and formal.

Most of my life has been cool and formal.

Besides you were a relative stranger then.

We're not strangers now.

Are we?

No.

This is the section of cloth that was found

in the chain link fence.

Now, the weave pattern is very similar

to an English twill or a whipcord.

But the dye is blotchy and uneven in color.

Twill. You mean, like an outer coat?

Yeah, a rain coat or a storm jacket.

But once again, the, the wool content is inferior in grade.

And it's been treated with a weather proofing solution

that is markedly below American or English mercantile standards.

Where would say it came from?

Uh, the best we could do is to say, it's uh..

It compares very closely to samples that we know

were machine produced in Central or Eastern European factories.

- Lewis. - Thank you.

Have you heard anything more on Jana Dieter?

Well, she and her father rent a small apartment

on Wye Street, North.

She hasn't left it and she isn't answering the phone.

You suppose she could be involved with

or helping this team

or outfit or whatever it is?

'They needed a contact for the car and the hospital uniforms.'

Well, if she were involved

wouldn't she try to appear cooperative?

Anyway, all she'd have to say was that she didn't see anything

except a chloroform pad.

Inspector, special agent Dent, Atlanta.

Erskine.

Uh, inspector?

We received your request for information on Stern, and uh..

I've got his jacket right her in front of me.

'Find anything interesting?'

No, not as I far as I can see, uh..

No visitors except for representatives

from his embassy.

No letters, no disciplinary incidents.

'And only one inmate request in the past six months.'

What for?

Well, that was to the property section.

Five weeks ago he withdrew seven dollars

from the amount he brought in with him.

- What did he use it for? - Um, flowers.

He wired them to a funeral parlor in Boston.

Grey and Spencer, 118, Old Harbor Street.

Uh, hold on just a second.

Inspector, I 'm going to have to correct the records.

Stern just flew a second kite.

And he wants to talk to you.

You see, in operation of this kind

you'll have to keep in mind

that the conditions will never be ideal.

- Porter? - Exactly.

But, if you believe in yourself

and in the key people around you

you go forward and sometimes, you even succeed.

Skorzeny got Mussolini out.

'Two British officers captured the German General'

'commanding the whole island of Crete.'

You really enjoy making a game out of this, don't you?

Why not?

It wasn't a game for the sailor nestling.

No.

I realize that those moments

were difficult for you to witness.

But you see..

...I have to keep in mind the success of this mission.

And in getting home.

Do you think we'll make it?

Don't you?

I do, when I'm with you.

I see.

So, you gave up comfort, safety for an assignment

that you thought might lead to imprisonment or death.

An assignment that you thought might conceivably fail.

- Hmm? - A death wish.

On the contrary, a wish to live.

Really live.

Damien! Something's happened to him.

[dramatic music]

On the floor, on his back.

Take the blindfold off.

I don't see any sign of breath.

Is he dead?

[door knocking]

Oh, it's you.

- May we come in, Ms. Dieter? - No, I'm sorry, I--

It's very important, we won't take much of your time.

Then, well, uh..

Uh, what do you want?

I can't help you, I told you that.

Did you have any word all from your father?

- No. - From his kidnappers?

No.

Ms. Dieter.

Uh, do you know a man named Frederick Sterne?

I know of him.

He's the most important spy we've ever arrested.

A full general.

We think your father might have been kidnapped

as an exchange for him.

Then you think that my father could still be alive?

Well, of course, you will do this, I mean..

He is worth more than any spy.

Ms. Dieter, if you help us, you'll be helping him.

You know, I can remember when I first saw my father's name.

It was chalked on a wall.

Anton D.

Four divisions of n*zi troops could not erase that name.

I was five then.

I remember it still.

Ms. Dieter, the people who kidnapped your father--

The people who kidnapped my father erased that name.

For twenty years.

But they say that it is beginning to come back.

On the walls in the factories

and scrawled over communist slogans, Anton D.

'Don't you see how frightened the communists are of this?'

They want him dead, they prefer him dead.

If they think for one minute that they cannot exchange him

they will most certainly k*ll him.

Do you really expect me to help put

a b*llet through my father's brain?

[dramatic music]

Give me my bag.

Don't try to talk.

Anton D, I'm going to give you a tablet

which you'll place under your tongue

and leave it there, so it dissolves.

Are you having pain?

- Uh-huh. - Now, that's a good sign.

I'm going to give you a shot of Dicloran.

It's going to raise your blood pressure.

[music continues]

Could you get him to the sofa

and put him in a semi seated position?

Shouldn't he be lying down?

Not yet.

Give me the pillow.

How long will he have to stay here?

A few hours.

I can't be sure but I don't think

there's been any damage to heart.

Beyond what he's lived with for 20 years.

What happened?

Well..

His heart beats very slowly under normal conditions.

And somehow or other, it, it just stopped all together.

Thank you.

[sighs]

I thought he was dead.

You're a miracle worker!

Well, it's a technique, sometimes it works

sometimes it doesn't.

[car honking]

Porter!

That should mean that the tapes are in Havana.

What does Havana have to do with this?

Is that's where you are taking me?

No, no, Anton D. Don't worry about it.

It's merely a diversionary tactic.

'Soon you'll be back in Central Europe among your old friends.'

'Oh, and speaking of old friends'

I think General Sterne should be seeing one of his about now.

[instrumental music]

How are you, inspector?

I'm glad you could come down.

I think there are some things we have to discuss.

Really?

What things do we have to discuss?

Anton Dieter.

The terms and conditions of the exchange.

I'm, uh, certain this doesn't take you by surprise.

It's quite a risky plan, general.

Your embassy must've been a little apprehensive

when you asked them to set it up.

I really don't know what you mean, inspector.

My embassy had nothing to do with this.

No?

Well, in any case, I don't have the authority

to negotiate an exchange.

I realize that.

But I know you as well as I know anyone in this connection

and I'm quite sure you can transmit the details

to those who have the authority.

You better tell me what you have in mind.

At 5:00 pm next Monday

Anton Dieter will be in Bad Salzig in East Germany.

'At that time he would be driven to the border'

which is roughly 20 kilometers away.

On the Western side of the border

also roughly 20 kilometers away

is the village of Harsefeld.

And exactly five, a car must leave Harsefeld.

I must be in that car.

Unless you have a question, I think that covers it.

You seem quite certain

you're gonna get Dieter out of this country, general.

But he's already out of this country.

You must know that.

He's in Matanzas, Cuba.

[dramatic music]

Have this ready tomorrow morning early.

Oh, sure thing, miss.

Be out at the end of the pier and ready to go.

Good.

You're from up North, aren't you?

Uh, New York?

Yes. How did you guess?

Oh, a girl, uh, almost as pretty as you are

came down here last month.

- Really? - High fashion model.

Brought along a photographer and everything.

Must've been an exciting day for you.

Oh, it was, ma'am.

See you tomorrow.

[engine revving]

You mean, you don't believe Sterne.

I don't think there's been time for them to get to Cuba.

Sterne may think so.

Has, uh, Esling regained consciousness yet?

- No, not yet. - Any word from Boston?

Well, there was a funeral at Grey and Fosters

on the day in question.

And the family of the deceased had no party connection

and no relationship to Sterne as far as we could see.

His card was unsigned, so they had no idea

'who the flowers came from.'

Apparently he picked name at random

out of the obituary columns.

Oh, it could have been a code of some sort.

Card or the flowers themselves.

That could be.

The address of the parlor

rang a bell with the Boston office.

They dug up an informant's report of a party

meeting four weeks ago.

The sole secretary authorized a fund payment

of $6,000 to a man named Roger Porter.

He lives at 118, Old Harbour Street.

He's an attendant at the parlor on vacation.

But we have his pictures. And a set of prints on him.

Twelve years ago, Porter was a man named George Wilson.

He walked out of the LA party headquarters.

He went underground in 1956.

I think we have to gamble, Art.

I'd like to see Porter's photograph on TV tonight.

[male TV announcer] Five feet nine and one half inches tall, 180 pounds

stocky build, reddish blonde hair.

Porter is sought by the FBI

for questioning in connection with the kidnapping

of world famed statesman Anton Dieter.

'Meanwhile in the world of sports'

'it was announced today by..'

- Time to go. - I can't believe it.

So, General Sterne's plan was not fool proof, eh?

I can't go back. I'll have to go on with you.

There is room in the boat, isn't there?

I suppose so.

Grew a moustache.

- Perhaps I dye my hair. - Yes. Yes.

That might help.

[intense music]

[muffled shot]

Come in.

Yes, sir, we'll take care of it.

I talked to Porter's employers.

According to them, he flew to Norfolk, Virginia

Apparently to buy some kind of rural property.

Anyway the office is checking it out.

Sit down, Lewis.

What's the matter with you?

Fifteen minutes ago, there was a meeting..

...with the representatives of the various

consulates in Havana.

The Swiss red cross, etc.

They heard a tape recording of Dieter's voice

that was supposed to have been made just outside of Havana.

What was the tape about?

Well, he was talking to the people who kidnapped him.

And we're supposed to believe that

after flying him to Cuba, they stopped at some place

outside Havana just to record his voice?

Mm-hmm.

Do you think the recording was here

and then flown out?

It seems much more logical to me, Art.

To take, uh, all the pressure off.

To convince us it was hopeless.

[phone ringing]

Mm. Yes.

[woman on phone] 'Mr. Rhodes called, Mr. Ward.'

'There's a lady named Jana Dieter in his office.'

'She wants to see Inspector Erskine.'

[door closes]

Thank you.

Oh, Inspector Erskine.

Have you heard any news?

They've asked for the exchange.

And you're going to do this?

We're gonna try to prevent it.

After you left this afternoon, I kept thinking..

...how alike how you are to my father.

It wouldn't occur to either one of you to..

...roll over and play dead on command.

But of course, it wouldn't be playing, would it?

An exchange might keep my father's body alive.

But he would be dead inside.

And he would hate that.

He's been a fighter for 70 years.

And I'm sure that he would want to fight to the end.

And he would want me to fight, too, wouldn't he?

[instrumental music]

I don't know if it would be any help.

But I can give you the names and faces..

...of two of the kidnappers.

[instrumental music]

Would be a great help.

Well, it all happens so quickly

they probably didn't think I saw them.

But the man who shot Gerd Esling is Major Damian Sava.

'The Korea soldier.'

Always the leader of an elite unit.

But a communist party member.

Here's the, the picture of the woman who was with them

on page 21.

'It reads "Doctors in attendance at the twelfth annual session'

"in Leipzig included

the heart specialist Marie-Luise Karn."

Arrange for me to distribute on the water flyer.

Alright.

What are you going to do?

Uh, we'll circulate Dr. Karn's picture

all along the water front.

Any place they might try to get out of the country.

Ah, by the way..

Thank you.

Are you sure that you should thank me, inspector?

The decision as to whether my father lives or dies..

...is now entirely up to you.

[instrumental music]

[groans]

Anton, how are you feeling?

Tired.

- Do we have much farther to go? - No, not very far.

- Why do you do this? - To help you.

To make your long journey back to Europe

a safe and comfortable one.

To keep me alive as long as it suits the regime.

To keep you alive, yes.

Have you thought of staying in America?

You might enjoy a free country.

Anton, I've been to a free country.

To Paris, to Rome. I adore them both.

Then why return at all?

Why not? It's my homeland.

It's prison.

Maybe it's a prison I enjoy.

Oh, Anton, I think we all fight different battles.

You fight ideas, I fight germs.

A woman with peritonitis doesn't think of a regime.

A child with cystic fibrosis is..

...is not political.

Your father was a doctor, too, wasn't he?

There was a doctor Karn in our quarter

when the...troops in the streets wore Franz Joseph uniforms.

I shall be the last Dr. Karn.

[instrumental music]

[buzzer ringing]

Ward.

Yeah, go ahead.

Right.

Good, they're practically on it. Lewis?

They located a realtor who's identified Porter

as the lessee of a small farm just outside of Norfolk.

[music continues]

- Well, how is he? - I think he'll be alright.

Damian, give him a few more minutes.

I don't like it. We should have been gone long ago.

How do we know that he isn't faking

this sudden shortness of breath?

Damian, he's an old man with a tired heart.

He's not faking.

I'm sorry.

You're doing a very good job.

We'll make it.

You know, I think we will.

When we get back, I have a leave coming to me.

A long one.

Have you ever been to Budapest?

No.

In summer, the mornings are marvelous there.

They're cool...beautiful.

[instrumental music]

[horn blaring]

But we're not there yet, are we?

We still have a long way to go, hmm?

[dramatic music]

These tracks can't be more than a couple hours old.

[Frank] 'Inspector?'

Upstairs in the attic.

Frank, make a plaster impression of those tire marks.

Right.

[music continues]

Assistant Director Ward, please.

[buzzer ringing]

- Ward. - Art.

Uh, we're in Porter's attic.

So is Porter, he's been shot to death.

- No sign of anyone else. - Lewis, hold on a minute.

I've got an urgent call

from the resident agent at Whitestone.

Yes, John.

Oh. How far is that from you?

Weren't you supposed to come back?

Alright, then, roll on the pier

but don't move in until Erskine gets there.

Lewis, there's a boat owner on a small pier

just outside of Windmill Point.

He think he's rented a boat for the Karn girl.

Now, she's supposed to be back sometime this morning.

Windmill Point, eh?

I'll alert the coastguard and the Virginia highway patrol

and send a helicopter for you.

[dramatic music]

Damian, there's something wrong.

Wrong? What do you mean?

This shop was open this time yesterday.

Where's the boat?

He said he'd leave it out on the pier.

Alright, let's get out then.

[music continues]

[music continues]

Go to the landing.

[music continues]

Damian?

'What's the matter?'

[chopper whirring]

[music continues]

[g*nshots]

[chopper whirring]

[music continues]

Put her down.

[engines revving]

[g*nshots]

[instrumental music]

Your Excellency, I'm Inspector Erskine of the FBI.

We've contacted your daughter, she's on her way

to the hospital now.

She'll be there when you arrive.

Inspector, I have had many occasions to be faithful

to your country.

Now, I have another one.

Please accept an old man's thanks.

[instrumental music]

Inspector, may I speak to them for a moment?

I shall like to tell them what medication I've given him.

- Go ahead. - Thank you.

I gave him a shot of Dicloran, uh

If I had the proper facilities, which I'm sure you now have

I would recommend oxygen.

Oh, yes, there was a stoppage where external massage worked.

You know, it's odd.

Until a few moments ago, I really thought

we were going to get away.

[male narrator] Major Damian Sava was convicted of m*rder.
