G:You did it, didn't you?

Class:Thief! Thief!

PW:It wasn't me... It wasn't me.

PW:I didn't do it!

Class:Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!

T:Tell the truth, Phoenix.

PW:But...

T:Now, apologize to the class.

Title:Turnabout Goodbyes — st Trial

PW:Christmas is here again, huh?

PaperCopy:,Christmas

PW:I hope Santa will bring me a big case...

PW:What are you doing?

M:I'm training. Isn't it obvious?

PW:I can't say I thought of that, no.

M:I thought I should train beneath a waterfall for once.

PW:Well, have a good one.

M:Hey, Nick...

M:The water pressure's kind of low in this waterfall.

PW:Go down to the fire department and have them spray you with the hose, then.

M:Oh, I hadn't thought of that!

R:Earlier this morning, the body of a man shot dead was found in Gourd Lake.

SignB:,Corpse Found in Gourdy's Lake!

SignB:,Gourd Lake Relay

R:A large, unidentified animal was also sighted here recently.

R:Locals are calling it "Gourdy" in a tip of the hat to Nessie, the Loch Ness monster.

PaperCopy:,Berry Big Circus

PW:"Gourdy," huh?

M:Nick...

PW:What's wrong?

M:The fireman yelled at me.

PW:I'm not surprised.

R:Breaking news.

R:Sources inside the police department have revealed that a suspect has been apprehended.

R:The suspect is Miles Edgeworth, twenty-four,

Verdict:,Miles Edgeworth ()

R:a practicing prosecutor.

Bo:Edgeworth?!

Names:,December Detention Center — Visitor's Room No.

ME:What are you doing here?

PW:Edgeworth, tell me what happened.

ME:And what will you do about it?

PW:Let me defend you.

ME:Defend me? You?

ME:Don't be ridiculous. You're a novice who's only been in three trials.

M:B-But...

ME:Yes, you got lucky and won all three, but your luck's bound to run out some day.

ME:You need real skill. Experience.

M:Why are we getting lectured here?

ME:Regardless, I don't want you involved in this.

ME:Leave.

:No...

PW:Let me just ask you one thing, Edgeworth.

PW:You didn't do it, right?

PW:Right?

PW:Stay out of this case.

M:He really gets on my nerves!

M:Acting like he's king! Of his cell, maybe!

PW:Well, that's just how he is.

M:Why are you so worried about Edgeworth, Nick?

PW:I owe him a lot.

M:Owe him?

PW:Anyway, let's go check Gourd Lake.

M:Sure are lots of cops loitering about...

PW:Please call it "investigating."

DG:There are enough of us here! Anyone find anything?

DG:The trial's tomorrow, pal.

DG:We need a lead on the culprit, on the double!

G:But we already know Edgeworth—

DG:Shaddup!

M:Eek!

PW:Hello, Detective Suedeshoes...

DG:It's about time, pal!

M:About time?

DG:You're here to investigate as the defense attorney, right?

DG:I'm here to help with anything you need!

PW:Uh, no, we actually...

DG:Come on, now!

M:He seems different than usual. I wonder what's up?

PW:Beats me.

DG:I'm so relieved, pal.

DG:No one would agree to take the case, so we were in a spot of bother.

PW:What? Why not?

DG:Mr. Edgeworth is a celebrity, pal.

DG:If you defended him and lost, your reputation would surely suffer.

PW:The case against him is that solid?

DG:The police are convinced he's the k*ller.

DG:They're not even taking the investigation seriously.

M:Oh...

DG:But he's got you on his side.

DG:That's better than having nobody, I think.

DG:Ask me anything you want!

DG:It happened last night, a bit after midnight...

DG:Two men were on a boat out on Gourd Lake.

DG:One of those men shot the other with a p*stol.

DG:Five minutes later, the police arrived at the scene

DG:and arrested Mr. Edgeworth, whom they found nearby.

M:How did they get here so fast?

DG:Well, someone called the cops as soon as they saw the m*rder.

PW:What?

PW:So there was a witness?

M:Did they see Edgeworth?

DG:Er, sorry, pal...

DG:That's confidential.

PW:If Edgeworth really was on that boat, it doesn't look good for him.

DG:You guys are his last hope, pal!

PW:About that...

DG:He refused to let you defend him?!

M:"Stay out of this case," he said.

M:It was basically a threat!

PW:Apparently, he doesn't think I'm much good as an attorney.

DG:That doesn't make any sense, pal!

DG:You should have heard him talking about you after the Steel Samurai case!

DG:Like, "That's Wright. Impressive as always."

PW:He said that?

DG:Please, pal...

DG:Help Mr. Edgeworth out.

DG:Prove that badge you wear isn't just some fancy piece of metal!

PW:Got it.

M:It's so surprising to hear that he praised you.

M:What do you think impressed him?

PW:Don't ask me.

LB:Hey, Nick!

LB:Merry Christmas.

M:Nick, you know Santa?

PW:Don't be ridiculous!

PW:Let's go. Avoid eye contact.

LB:Dude, it's me!

PW:Larry!

M:Larry?

Y:Whoa, cute.

Y:Who's she, Nick? She's not your...?

PW:Not my... what?

M:I'm Maya Fey.

M:I pull the strings at the Wright & Co. Law Offices.

PW:What the heck?

LB:Maya, huh?

LB:Here, have this.

LB:A token of our meeting.

M:Wow, thanks!

PW:What are you doing here?

LB:Isn't it obvious? I'm working!

LB:Original Samurai Buns

LB:I sell Samurai buns over there.

M:Look! The Steel Samurai...

M:It's the real deal!

LB:See? It's a big hit with the young.

SignC:,Original Samurai Buns

LB:A m*rder?!

LB:I was here working last night, but I don't know anything...

PW:Hey, Larry...

LB:What's with the scary face?

PW:The suspect in this case is Miles Edgeworth.

M:Um, Nick?

M:Why would Larry know Edgeworth?

LB:What? Old Edgey?!

M:You know him?

LB:Of course.

LB:We were classmates in grade school.

LB:Butz, Wright, and Edgeworth...

LB:The Three Signal Samurai of Class -!

LB:He used to study all the time, trying to "be like Father."

PW:Yeah, his father was evidently pretty famous back then.

M:Oh, so his father was a prosecutor, too?

LB:Nah, Edgey's pop was a defense attorney.

M:Huh? That's the total opposite!

LB:Opposite?

M:He's a prosecuting attorney right now!

LB:Edgey? A prosecutor?

LB:What's up with that, Nick?

M:Nick?

PaperCopy:, Yen

LB:W-Well, I leave Edgey in your hands...

PW:Did the victim and culprit rent a boat here?

PaperCopy:,Boat Rental

M:Larry said we'd find the caretaker here...

PaperCopy:,Adults: yen Children: yen

M:Hello?

PW:Looks like nobody's home.

M:They're supposed to be raking it in now!

M:What with Gourdy and all, right?

PW:Gourdy? What?

M:You don't know, Nick?!

M:A huge, unidentified, mysterious monster!

M:The last adventure left in the modern age!

PW:It probably doesn't exist.

M:It totally does!

M:Look.

M:There's even a photo.

PW:It's true.

M:Right?

M:First Gourdy, now a m*rder.

M:Gourd Lake is all the rage right now!

PW:Don't put them in the same boat.

PW:"Gourdy," huh?

M:The photo in the magazine was taken here, right?

M:I wish Gourdy would pop out for a sec.

M:Wow, check out this camera.

PW:This must be a high-sensitivity mic.

PW:It looks like an automatic system for taking a photo when a noise is heard.

M:Let's see if it works...

M:Hi, I'm Nick.

M:Yo, I'm Nick!

PW:Will you stop that? It's embarrassing!

M:Oh, I know!

M:Here we go.

M:Merry Christmas!

LH:Hey, you! Git yer hands offa' that!

LH:What were y'all thinkin', settin' off a party-popper?

LH:Y'all know how much film costs these days?!

LH:Let me tell ya, not every southerner's a cheapskate!

LH:Just 'cause I might be don't mean we all are!

PW:Uh...

LH:What?

PW:That's quite a camera you have.

LH:Y'all know it!

LH:I've programmed it so that it only reacts to bangs like earlier.

PW:Bangs?

M:Wait, this article says...

M:"When I took this photo, with the camera set to auto, I heard a bang far away."

PW:Huh...

M:Experts speculate that it might've been Gourdy's cry.

PW:So you're here for Gourdy?

LH:Ayup.

LH:That dumb couple just happened to take a blurry picture.

LH:They didn't actually see ol' Gourdy.

LH:That's why I've been stakin' out 'ere for three days straight, Christmas or not!

LH:I'll git my hands on this scoop and make a hella lotta dolla!

M:Make a hella...

PW:...lotta dolla?

Sign:Self-Proclaimed Journalist — Lotta Hart

LH:I'm Lotta Hart.

LH:Pleased to meet ya.

LH:Oh, the m*rder?

LH:I heard a practicin' prosecutor did it?

PW:We don't know for sure that he did it.

M:Did you see or hear anything last night?

LH:Well, I've been 'ere three days.

LH:I ain't too sure anymore.

PW:Your camera triggers on the sound of loud explosions, right?

PW:Maybe it got a shot of the m*rder?

LH:I see what yer sayin'...

LH:Let me take a look-see.

Bo:That was quick!

LH:The camera took two pictures last night.

LH:The first was a bust, but we hit bingo with the second!

PW:Show us!

LH:Hell, naw.

LH:This is a genuine, big-time scoop!

M:L-Lotta!

LH:Oh, I reckon I should tell the cops.

Bo:The cops?

LH:This photo reminded me...

LH:I saw the m*rder happen.

LH:When you see a m*rder, you'd best tell the cops!

LH:It's a civic duty.

LH:Smell y'all later.

M:Wait, Lotta!

PW:What did you see?

LH:It's a civic duty!

PW:We should visit the police department too.

PW:Detective Suedeshoes might've learned something.

DG:This is the victim's autopsy report, pal.

DG:He was shot at point-blank range and died instantly.

PW:Thank you.

DG:We still haven't identified the victim.

PW:Anyway, we won't get anywhere until he asks us to defend him.

PW:He's hiding something.

M:It really is him!

PW:Who?

M:I met him once before, at the office where my sister worked.

PW:The office Mia worked at?

PW:Grossberg's office?

MG:You wanted to ask me something?

MG:Feel free.

MG:I'll help you out however I can.

M:Thank you.

MG:So, what is it?

PW:Do you know this man?

MG:He was a lawyer in my firm.

MG:But he quit a long time ago.

PW:What was his name?

MG:Robert Hammond.

MG:What about him?

PW:He was found dead in Gourd Lake this morning.

MG:What?

MG:So he's the victim in Miles Edgeworth's case?

PW:Yes.

MG:He k*lled Hammond?

PW:He didn't do it.

MG:How did it come to this?

PW:Wait, is there a link between Edgeworth and Hammond?

MG:The DL- Incident.

PW:DL-...

M:I knew it.

MG:"DL-" is the sorting code the police gave the case.

MG:It was a strange m*rder case that happened fifteen years ago.

MG:Hammond was the defense attorney for that case.

PW:What does such an old case have to do with Edgeworth?

MG:The m*rder victim in the DL- Incident

MG:was Edgeworth's father.

MG:Gregory Edgeworth. He was a top-class attorney.

MG:Someone shot him to death.

MG:And the young Miles was with him at the time.

PW:What?

MG:Gregory Edgeworth was an excellent lawyer.

MG:He was butting heads with Manfred von Karma, the so-called god of prosecutors.

MG:The m*rder happened right in the middle of that trial.

MG:He must have died with regrets,

MG:because he was the only one who could go toe-to-toe with Manfred von Karma at the time.

PW:Manfred von Karma...

MG:Edgeworth's death must've come as a shock to von Karma, too.

MG:He even took the next day off.

PW:Really...

MG:That's the only day off Manfred von Karma has taken in his -year career.

MG:He must have respected Edgeworth a great deal.

MG:After the m*rder, he adopted Miles, who had nowhere else to go.

PW:Edgeworth...

MG:Gregory Edgeworth's m*rder investigation hit a dead end,

MG:but the suspect was later arrested and put on trial.

MG:And Hammond was the one who defended him in court.

MG:His magnificent defense proved his client's innocence,

MG:after which the case went cold.

MG:And it remains unsolved to this day, fifteen years later.

PW:Okay, I get all that.

PW:But I don't see why Edgeworth would k*ll Hammond.

MG:Hammond ensured that the man who m*rder*d Miles' father walked away scot-free.

MG:It's understandable that he'd hold a grudge against him.

PW:But...

MG:It wasn't only Miles.

MG:That case ruined the lives of many other people.

MG:Including you, Maya, and your sister Mia.

PW:Maya and Mia?

MG:Like I said, the investigation hit a dead end.

MG:In a bid to identify the culprit, the police secretly turned to a spirit medium.

PW:A-A spirit medium? Don't tell me...

MG:Misty Fey. Their mother.

MG:The police channeled Gregory Edgeworth's spirit.

MG:And he identified the man trapped in the elevator with him as the culprit.

MG:In court, Hammond exposed this,

MG:accusing the police of using a fraudulent spirit medium.

MG:Though Misty Fey's channeling was only used as a reference,

MG:and not as evidence in court.

MG:But afterward, society repeatedly labeled her a fraud,

MG:and she disappeared.

M:That channeling was meant to be secret,

M:but someone leaked it to the defense.

M:My sister wanted to learn who it was. That's why she left home and became an attorney.

MG:Forgive me.

MG:I was the one who leaked the information...

MG:To the information-gathering company Bluecorp's CEO, Redd White!

Bo:Wait, Redd White?!

MG:He sold the information to Hammond.

MG:And the police were disgraced in a manner that would go down in history.

MG:When White threatened to destroy my firm, I had to obey him!

PW:So Mia came to you, fully aware of all that?

MG:That's right.

MG:She staked all she had to save me...

MG:No, everyone who'd suffered at White's hands.

MG:She did everything she could.

PW:And finally created a list that would expose White's wrongdoing?

MG:Yes, a perfect list.

MG:But due to that, she was k*lled by White!

MG:Forgive me, Maya!

M:The women of the Fey family have always been very sensitive to the spirit world.

M:My mother and sister were no different.

M:And now, it's up to me alone.

M:But lately, my powers have grown weaker.

PW:What?

M:Yes.

M:I can't even reach my sister anymore.

PW:Is that why you were training this morning?

PW:Maya...

M:Let's go see Edgeworth again, Nick!

G:Miles Edgeworth,

G:you have visitors.

ME:You two are back?

PW:The DL- Incident...

PW:Is it related to this case?

ME:You got that far in a matter of hours?

ME:You always were single-minded.

ME:Once you start something, you see it through.

ME:That night, Hammond asked to see me for the first time in fifteen years.

ME:He said he had something to tell me about the case.

PW:Then you really were at the crime scene?

ME:We set out by boat.

ME:But before he told me anything, I heard g*nf*re.

ME:And next thing I knew, I was alone on the boat.

PW:Who shot him?

ME:I do not know.

ME:I picked up the p*stol without thinking.

ME:I really don't want you involved in this case.

ME:It's my problem, and mine alone.

M:I also want to know the truth behind the DL- Incident.

M:No, I have to know.

ME:Who are you?

M:My mother's name is Misty Fey.

ME:F-Fey?

ME:Then you're that spirit medium's...

M:I understand why you don't want anyone touching upon that case.

M:I felt the same.

M:But things have changed now.

M:We have to face the truth, no matter how painful it may be!

PW:Maya...

M:Nick and Gumtree believe in you from the bottom of their hearts!

M:So please place your faith in us, too!

M:Let Nick defend you!

ME:Very well.

ME:It pains me to ask this now,

ME:but would you please defend me?

PW:You can count on me.

ME:Who could have guessed this day would come?

PW:This is my chance to finally repay you.

ME:Repay me? For what?

PW:Never mind. It's okay if you've forgotten.

ME:This will be an uphill battle.

PW:I know.

ME:No, you don't.

ME:You don't know how terrifying the god of prosecutors, Manfred von Karma, is.

PW:Manfred von Karma?!

M:Wait, your mentor?

ME:In his forty-year career, he has not lost a single case.

ME:He is truly a miracle prosecutor.

ME:Manfred van Karma...

ME:A frightening man who will do anything and everything it takes to win.

PW:Objection!

PW:The trial for the Gourd Lake m*rder begins.

PW:In the defendant's chair is Edgeworth.

PW:I believe in your innocence.

PW:And the prosecutor on this case is Manfred von Karma,

PW:Edgeworth's mentor!
