a gauntlet of unpredictable waterways

and overgrown forest.

[narrator] Once they reach the waterfall,

of the journey to the finish line.

each team will make their way
to separate trailheads

that lie at the base of the jungle.

[Abby] New part of the island.
Here we come.

[narrator] They'll be hiking
straight into the heart

of the island's most densely
overgrown rainforest…

which locals refer to
as el Corazón del Diablo,

or the Devil's Heart.

[tense music playing]

It's an unforgiving terrain
filled with thick, tangled brush…

thorny vines…

towering trees,

and erratic terrain, making it one of
the most difficult environments

on the planet to navigate on foot.

[Nikki] It is okay
if we get a little separated.

As long as we have eyes on each other,

we're fine.

[narrator] The teams will head
in opposite directions

to a waterfall
in the middle of the jungle,

where they'll find a key and instructions
for tomorrow's leg of the race.

Alpha will start seven kilometers
downstream from the waterfall,

using the river as their path.

Bravo will start on the opposing


up through the heavily-wooded highlands,

before descending on to the waterfall.

The topography of the two paths
gives them unique challenges.

Due to these conditions,

the teams can expect to reach
the waterfall at roughly the same time.

They also have the potential
to encounter each other along the way.

To guarantee Alpha and Bravo
face the same obstacles,

they'll attempt to exit the jungle
along their opponent's path

before the race is suspended at dusk.

The further they get before nightfall,

the shorter the distance they'll need
to cover for tomorrow's final leg.

At daybreak,

their journey will conclude
on the island's western shore,

where a final test stands
between them and their fortune.
