remote control observation craft.

The BZ-24 is more difficult to get a hold of than I thought.

'There are lot of risks involved.'

"The Watch-dog."

[male narrator] On the morning of May 18th, a coded message was sent

from a communist trawler

operating off the coast of Massachusetts.

The signal, beamed over a very high frequency transmitter

was received strongest in the Boston area.

This message, the second and less then two weeks

was intercepted by monitoring

an Iron Curtain radio frequency

and forwarded to the FBI in Washington.

This is the first message.

"Proceed as plan with watch dog."

That's all there was, inspector.

The word "watch dog" appeared in both messages.

It's obviously a code name for something

the communists are after.

Well, l-let me see the second message, Jim.

Alright.

"Watch dog useless without

"BZ-24.

Must obtain. Urgent."

Whatever project watch dog stands for, I'm afraid

the communist have succeeded in compromising a part of it.

Tom, see if our Boston office can find out anything

about this, uh, BZ-24.

And what laboratories are involved in projects

making use of it.

Yes, sir.

Lewis, I'd like you and Tom to handle this case.

We can leave in a couple of hours.

before we decided to concentrate on Kurland.

Yes, there's a laboratory

here in Boston called Dyno-Space.

They recently completed the development

of a remote control observation craft.

'It can be launched and controlled'

'by a portable field unit'

'and also has interchangeable lens capability.'

'Wide angle, tele-photo, even infrared for night.'

Interesting.

I think you'll find this even more interesting, inspector.

One of the engineers on the project, a Ralph Kurland

met with an accident the day before

we intercepted that second message.

'It seems he fell down a steep cliff'

'overlooking the bay.'

Ambulance attendants said they found an envelop

sticking out of his pocket.

It contained $5,000 in cash.

Where's Kurland now?

Uh, Boston General.

'He's in pretty bad shape.'

'His doctors say we wouldn't be able to interview him'

'until at least tomorrow.'

Were there any witnesses to the accident?

A man by the name of Tad Shayon was fishing on the beach.

He saw Kurland tumbling down the side of the cliff

then called for help.

Let's have a talk with him.

[instrumental music]

But you promised to have dinner with us, Kate.

Keith is dying to meet you.

Keep him around a little longer than the others

and maybe he'll get his chance.

have clearance on the project.

It might have been simpler to get a list of those who don't.

My wife was in the hospital and it was costing me a fortune

to keep her alive.

So, I planted the bug.

And I got my money.

And I never saw him again

or heard from him until..

As far as we can make out

upon completion of watch dog

it authorizes the spy master's request to recall

the number two man to the Eastern zone

for insubordination.

And it gives permission to liquidate him

if he refuses to go.

We must be getting close.

That's what we make of it.

We may have something within an hour, Arthur.

'in an underground garage a little while ago.'

'Police traced Dr. Keller by a dog tag found on the scene.'

Did he say where McKay is now?

'Boston General, apparently he was also shot.'
