On January 24th

two armed men held up a bank in Lincoln, Nebraska.

One of the men was identified

from pictures taken by a bank camera

as George Shawn, a local citizen.

A warrant was obtained

to permit a search of Shawn's apartment

where agents learned that the apartment had been shared

with Brent Wilcox

a known alias for James Robert Devlin.

A search of the room uncovered a hand-drawn sketch.

This sketch was forwarded at once

to FBI headquarters in Washington for examination.

[male #2] 'The writing on the diagram found in Shawn's apartment'

'doesn't match samples of Shawn's handwriting'

'which the Omaha office furnished us.'

'Now, here's a demand note we have on file'

'of Shawn's roommate, Devlin.'

This was used by Devlin in a 1960 bank robbery case

in Pittsburgh.

And the handwriting is identical?

Yes, sir.

When was Devlin released from prison?

Two years ago.

How much money was taken in the Lincoln robbery?

Twelve thousand dollars.

Some of the serial numbers were recorded.

We've furnished them to law enforcement agencies

and banks in Nebraska and bordering states

and entered them in the NCIC.

Anyone get a description of the getaway car?

Yes, sir.

Two eyewitnesses outside the bank identified the car

as a late-model dark blue Ford or sedan.

The state patrol has set up roadblocks.

Well, they might've gotten through

before the roadblocks went up.

Judging from the amount of blood at the crime scene

Shawn wasn't in any condition to travel.

abandoned right here.

It's just outside of Washington, Kansas.

And we've alerted all doctors

hospitals and pharmacies

and we're processing the car now

for fingerprints and other evidence.

Hm. Where is Shawn from originally?

Well, he was adopted when he was 12.

He was raised by a Theodore Watson.

They owned a little farm just outside of Topeka.

Shawn left Kansas six years ago when his father died.

Have agents been out to the farmhouse?

[man on radio] 'Inspector, the Norberry woman just left her hotel'

'and is now proceeding east on 68th in a taxi cab.'

'Dispatcher says, destination, airport.'
