Monster Garage was launched.

- [Voiceover] After a few seconds of watching,
one thing was perfectly clear.
The Discovery Channel had discovered a new kind
of television show.
- Boom, boom.
- [Man] You gotta be kidding me.
- [Voiceover] Monster Garage was over the top
and in your face.
It was brimming with attitude.
Most of it bad.
- Why don't you k*ll yourself?
- [Voiceover] With a philosophy summed up best
by its host outlaw bike builder, Jesse James.
- Because it's wrong.
- [Voiceover] Smoking tires and burning rubber.
Jesse delivers the goods.
It's time to meet your monster.
Week after week, the garage gave birth to new monsters.

and transform it into the ultimate hot air balloon.

- [Voiceover] Monster Garage hit viewers
like a heavyweight body shot
and left an imprint
like a sailor Saturday night tattoo.
And the viewers, they loved it.
- I'm Hailey and I watched every show of yours.
- Nah uh.
- Uhuh

- I love this machine the way they work.
- Jesse's a master builder.
- I like the skulls and the flames.
- They just looks so cool.
- [Voiceover] Before the mania of the monster
was the birth of an idea.
- I dreamt a Mustang turning into a lawnmower.
[Lawnmower sounds]
I woke up in the middle of the night,
I sat up in bed,
I went, oh yeah.
- [Voiceover] Thom Beers,
Creator and executive producer
had recently finished working
on a film called
Motorcycle Mania with Jesse James.
- It took me to some fancy pants place
when we sat down to dinner and,
- And I said, here's the idea.
You know, what could we do with this?
- I honestly thought he smoked crack
when he explained it to me,
We really wanted something custom and cool cars
and something really radical and
- We just started to brainstorm and cook
and all of a sudden
- We started going back and forth
and by the time we were done
at the end of the night, you know
it was like Mad Max beyond Thunder dome,
where this whole place was covered with this big cage
and you had to climb up and get the tools
and you know, you had to fight it out like gladiators.
- I said, you wanna do this?
I wanna do this.
Let's do this.
And so we did it.
All of a sudden it just became a reality.
- [Voiceover] Ideas were put to paper
and the concept took some wild turns.
At one point,
a sinister character called the Master Metal Morpher,
a semi human hybrid,
would guide each team on their mission.
- A Master Metal Morpher.
[Laughs]
- [Voiceover] Hugh King,
the producer who punched out the first four episodes,
was there at the beginning.
- The Master Morpher was going
to appear and save things
or set things right or put things on a different path.
In fact, this guy was gonna be dressed in a green tights
and kind of flying through the air.
- [Voiceover] By the time filming began,
the Flying Metal Morpher was grounded, reduced
to an ominous voice, booming from a 60 inch TV.
- [Metal Morpher] Your mission,
should you decide to accept it,
is to build the ultimate Blade rolling,
fiber slashing metallic log rocket.
- [Voiceover] The Master Metal Morpher
never made it to broadcast,
but they still had a broadcast to make.
- Here put these on so you don't hurt yourself.
- [Voiceover] With Jesse covering his back,
Hugh King, a seasoned news
and documentary producer was thrown into a bear
and poorly lit garage to pound out the first monster.
- The truth is, we didn't know
whether we could do this or not.
We did have Jesse, our our guiding light, who you know,
is a mechanical genius for sure,
but whether we could actually make these things work
and they did have to work
was frightening.
- [Voiceover] To make it even more frightening.
The first one out of the chute
was a monster called the White Tr*sh Truck.
A Ford Explorer turned into the garbage truck from hell.
- [Thom] How long do you figure it would take
to make all this stuff?
- One day?
- One day.
- One day.
- [Voiceover] With its complicated hydraulics, robotic arm
and major body redesign.
The White Tr*sh truck still stands as one
of the most difficult builds any team has ever attempted.
- It looks like a 27 piece screwdriver
- [Man] It's on the floor.
- [Voiceover] To make matters worse,
Jesse was a total non-believer.
- I've seen the light,
it's not gonna work in seven days,
- [Voiceover] He put his money where his mouth was
and bet the team's trash truck expert,
his design would never work.
- I'll give about 500 bucks,
I'll bet it right now.
Bet me. Bet me.
I'll help too.
And it's still won't
- [Voiceover] For its first ever build week,
The garage was like a car threatening to overheat.
If it blew, they'd fail.
- It doesn't go like this.
Look, as soon as they grab it,
it's gonna go.
- It hurts my feelings,
but I'm just gonna fight to prove him wrong.
- [Voiceover] Incredibly, Gregorio held up under Jesse's
unrelenting onslaught.
- I mean, sometimes you just gotta let people go ahead
and fail to prove your points.
- He stood by his g*ns and his hydraulics.
- [Gregorio] We need to disconnect the hydraulics on
the motor.
- [Jesse] Good thing Gregorio understands all that,
'cause I'm just, look.
[Laughs]
- I'll just remember that night we were all,
it was late at night, everybody was exhausted.
Time had run out in the fabrication process
- And everybody's sitting there going,
oh my God, is this gonna work?
Are we gonna fail?
- It's not gonna work in seven days.
- [Voiceover] Finally, there was no more time.
It was either lift up or shut up.
- Where's that can go?
- Huh?
- We put a galvanized trash can down
on the floor and the arm came out like
[imitates robotic sound]
- All of a sudden the arms that come like this,
they go
[imitates blowing sound]
And it was like whoa.
[Everyone cheers]
- You know,
it's just like Frankenstein man.
- Whoa.
Where can I buy one?
- That looks perfect
And onto the next house.
- If you listen closely,
half the Oos and Ahhs you hear
are from the production team.
[Everyone cheers]
- That was really thrilling.
- I think the joy for us is to watch it work too.
- Wow.
- [Voiceover] A gentleman always pays his bets.
And so does Jesse James.
In one glorious moment idea became reality
and Monster Garage was lifted up
and sent on its path to success.
The swamp bug, Limo Firetruck
and switch blade lawn rocket came quickly after
bringing in viewers high ratings
and instant stardom for the only host in the history
of television with a Benjamin Franklin tattooed on his back.

- We're gonna get pulled over.

with a blue collar work ethic.

- I think my goal's just to scare people.
- Busting my *bleep right now,
- [Voiceover] What he didn't have was a lot
of experience being a show host.
[Burps]
- We didn't even look for a host.
We thought let's just slide this guy in under the radar,
put the show on the air and see what happens.
- I'm not an actor and I don't play pretend.
- What we're trying to do here is
- And I get mad and I get happy
and I get sad and you know, I feel it all.
You know, I'm not Tom Cruise trying
to pretend like I'm a pirate or something like that.
I'm Jesse and Jesse's here working every day
- For Jesse,
It all boils down to the work.
- Monster Garage
is a good example of just a plain old work week.
I ain't got no friends in here.
We need all these guys to labor together.
You know, not stand around
and look cool.
Could know everything there is
to know about everything.
But if you don't pick your damn hands up
and do something once in a while,
then your knowledge is useless.
- And he says it all the time
. This ain't a television show,
it's a job.
The guy literally comes in,
does the work and goes home.
- This is reality TV.
All the other stuff where they're forcing people
to be on an island and Super Models and stuff like that.
That's not reality TV.
You're just seeing a guy, you know,
working 60, 80 hour weeks
trying to pay his bills.
That's reality.
- [Voiceover] With the success of Monster Garage
and an ever expanding fan base,
Jesse still considers himself
to be just another working stiff.
Definitely not a TV show host.
- Oh, like Bob Barker, you know,
I mean that's a host.
He's the anti host.
- So how was it out there?
- Jesse James is the perfect anti host.
- I'm pro anti.
Anti everything.
Men wanna be him.
Women wanna be with him.
Kids wanna grow up to be just like him.

- [Voiceover] Every man needs a monster.
But before there's a monster,
you need an idea.
Fans often ask,
how do you come up with these things?
Well, it's not pretty
and it can get pretty ugly.
But these ideas come about through good old American blood,
sweat and brainstorming.
- The next build
- is this DeLorean hovercraft.
- Cool Miata
- Mercedes and the El Camino.
- That M class looks pretty good.
- BMW's.
- Is that the coop or the convertible?
- We'll have a brainstorming session
where we'll just throw anything on the wall
to see what will stick.
- Let's do a float for Rose Parade.
- Didn't never think of it.
- Try busting
- Hey, you know what,
Let's try and bust in.
- No, let's do it and just show up.
- That sh**t, It's gotta sh**t Fire.
- Dude well couldn't we do the
- Devil like poking people into hell

But he is really really slow.

- Look, I got goosebumps.
- It's not this big,
you know, calculated focus group.
It's just us getting together talking about
different stuff, you know?
- What about like rock and soccer robot cars?
- Yeah, two cars that fight each other.
- Two car,
What about that big rock and soccer.
- Ahh goo goo goo and you like,
you like really work,
I mean like boom and the head pops up.
- Yeah.
- [Voiceover] The end result of this idea session,
Santa's satanic wheelie float probably won't.
We are planning on doing a season ending special
turning two cars into rock 'em sock 'em robots
for some serious monster head bashing.
After an idea gets the green light,
it goes under the bright lights where Jesse
and a hand selected team are filmed trying
to hone an idea into a workable design.

- Mike Desmond is a design artist from Mitsubishi Motors
who was drawn to the freedom
and creativity of the Monster Garage.
- I think it needs to be something more significant.
Like go really, really fast.
Maybe it's actually dragster,
- Like the little red wagon, you know?
- Yeah, it's a weird machine.
- Weird.
- There you go.
- So my job is, you know, millimeters
and a lot of technical crap.
It'd get on your nerves after a while.
This project, there's really none of those things.
If we're gonna do some crazy,
it should be like that Osprey
aircraft where it's just like they flip out
[Imitates Airplane engine sounds]
- It's all the fun without all the crap.
- It's pretty cool
'cause you were taking
a mass consumer product,
one of the defining products
of American culture and that's the automobile.
It's something that use, that people buy
as a status symbol that defines who they want to be,
who they think they are,
And then we're cutting it up.
We're transforming into something completely different
than it was ever meant to do.
It's not the same as a show car.
'cause a show car is pretty and stuff,
but the show car doesn't have to move.
You know, that's the whole thing about this stuff is
it's gotta work.
- I got a pretty good five day
construction gauge.
I can see what can't be done
and what can't be done in 5 days.
And usually I pick our goal
a little bit beyond what can get done.
[Rock music plays with engine sounds in the background]
- All that's left is everything.
- So all that's left is everything?
- All that's left to do is everything.
- Let's get after it.
- Okay.
No time like the present.
- [Voiceover] Not all ideas are created equally.
Sometimes the boss gets a gut reaction
that turns his stomach.
- Sometimes when I'm working on a car,
even in the design phase, I don't feel it
and I can't see the prize at the end
and I can't, you know, I can't visualize it coming together
and being really spectacular.
Like the PT Cruiser's.
A perfect example.
- [Voiceover] At the end of a routine,
first day in the garage,
Jesse walks in and drops the monster of all bombs.
- Let's start at 9:00 AM tomorrow
and we'll work all day until it's done
and we'll finish it in one day.
Finish it.
- [Voiceover] Jesse hates the Monster Mulcher
so much he's willing to take down everything with it.
The rules, the team's time in the garage
and the show.
- I just don't wanna prolong the agony.
Let's make it go away. Oh, away.
[Word away echoes]
- The PT Cruiser was the ultimate showdown between Jesse
and the TV producers.
- The producers don't think it's a good idea if we finish in
one day 'cause it makes for bad TV.
But I don't really give a *bleep about that.
I don't care what anybody thinks.
- Can we come back for a better challenge?
Maybe we get a second try at something more challenging.
- Everything went to hell in a hand basket in the garage.
- Let's see if we can take a PT cruiser
and make it into a PT Cruiser flaming off a cliff.
That would be cool.
- We were going, oh my God,
we're not gonna have a show here.
[Imitates Engine Sounds]
- But the end result of that was,
I think we got a great show out of it.
[Rock Music plays]
- Yeah, I like it.
- Good.
- Cool.
- [Voiceover] Then there was another producer idea
that Jesse wasn't nuts about.
[Suspenseful music plays]
- This is Hollywood guys trying to think of something
that's cool that really ain't,
they can dream up all kinds of guys in squirrel.
- [Producer] Can you do the double sign
and say, Jesse, you're going down
[Laughs]
- This squirrel.
- Make it go away.
Make it go away quick.
- Boy, that one didn't go over.
Jesse just hated that.
[Laughs]
[Rock music playing on the background]
- Filling up four fingers?
- There was actually sound logic
and reasoning behind the giant squirrel idea
- In context of the machine.
It was a funny idea.
Here is a nut shaker
- [Upbeat music]
- Beers and I came up with this idea
of the nut shaker competing against a squirrel together.
Nuts.
So we ran with that idea
and we were both going, yeah, that's a great idea.
Oh yeah, A giant squirrel would be so cool, you know? .
- [Producer 1] Shake the tree a little bit too.
Yeah, that's good.
Hit into character.
- [Producer 2] Come out a little bit more.
There we go.
Okay, duck down one more time.
- [Producer 1] Ready?
- [Producer 2] Go ahead.
- What?
- [Producer 2] Hide, code, crouch.
- The squirrel would be this kind of mysterious figure
that would pop in and out during the challenge.
So Jesse got up there
and he was kind of grumpy in a bad mood or something.
- I remember that day and I think I was in a pissed off mood
'cause I'd been sitting out in the sun in the middle
of some walnut grove.
- I kept the squirrel away from him
until the very end and I brought him out.
I said, now Jesse, here's how it's gonna work.
The guy in the squirrel is gonna jump in the car
and steal it while you go out and and shake the dude's hand.
- After about eight hours of sitting there,
some dude comes out with a squirrel costume,
[Squirrel laughs]
- It's kind of like if you're sound asleep
and it's three in the morning
and Mickey Mouse comes to your house and wakes you up.
Hey, I'm Mickey Mouse.
You can bam.
You don't care if it's Mickey or not.
Get the hell outta my house.
[Rock Music plays]
- If I would've thought of the squirrel costume
and bring in a guy in a squirrel costume,
it would probably would've been the coolest thing ever.
You never know.
[Laughs]
- It was still a funny idea,
I thought.
I told my wife I was working
- [Voiceover] The wheelie,
The one idea that always works,
- It is the wheelie.
It's all about the wheelie,
When I was a kid,
if you had a bike
and you could like pop a little one,
that was cool.
But if you could ride one handed,
given the peace side all the way
around the block,
I was a king
- [Voiceover] From the beginning,
Jesse had a clear vision
that turning an ambulance into a wheelie car would be a cool
project and a tough build.
- It's basically like doing heart surgery on someone,
but instead of putting it back in
their chest, you're putting it in their,
- [Voiceover] It was a complicated operation.
First they pulled the motor from the front
and put it in the back.
Then they linked the motor
to the rear end through a V drive.
Next they strengthened the body
with a steel tubing rib cage,
and finally they added wheelie bars.

- Now I know why God put me on this earth.
All that metal work and fabrication,

- So it's kind of fun to like put a car out of its misery
- [Voiceover] And the destruction of the sand rail.

- Let's smash this bugger apart.
- [Voiceover] Build Day 1 is defined
by one word:
Destruction.
- I'm getting a bit of a gas shower.
[Rock Music plays]
- I dunno what they are,
but I don't think we need them.
- It's always fun when you get to
destroy other people's stuff.
- [Voiceover] An easy time tearing apart the vehicle.
Temps many builders into gutsy predictions
of an easy week in the garage.
- And this thing's gonna get finished.
We just got the motor in.
It's only Tuesday.
I mean we're probably finished up a little bit early.
- Never failed.
Every time someone says we're gonna be done early,
they just jinx it.
- We're gonna try to predict maybe an early finish.
- [Voiceover] Now he's done it
by predicting early victory,
Jesse's made sure the team will sl*ve
to the bitter end.
Early in the week,
Playing to the camera is many of the builders top priority.
But as the deadlines become reality,
all bets are off.
Five days in the garage is a human pressure cooker.
While cameras roll the weight of the challenge
and the threat of the deadline brings builders
to their boiling points.
- The garage is a pressure cooker.
- Do you understand me,
you piece of *bleep?
I'm sweating.
[Laughs]
- I think a lot of it
is the cameras being on people puts
a weird spin on things .
- We come around here when we're really busy
and ask a silly questions.
- You have something else to do?
- Get outta my face.
- [Voiceover] The Porsche golf ball collector build
went into the rough
when Alex and Eric whipped out their nine irons
for some smash mouth golf.
- You want me to help somebody out that burned me?
That's what you're asking me to do.
*bleep
- Yeah see, you want help?
You wanna help you - as a team
- You wanna help?
- Let's get in the car and these guys can run
their *bleep show by themselves.
- You want it look,
look right here.
- *bleep I'm not somebody you want to help dude.
I was asked to come to the *bleep show by them.
- Okay, well that's what you're trying you.
That's what you're saying.
You're saying that you want,
you only went deal your way.
- I'm not doing it my way.

- [Voiceover] Ironically, turning a Chevy Suburban
into a wedding chapel,
turned the build week into a hate fest.
- You better just watch it,
if it's not, that's all that's gonna happen.

- [Voiceover] Tony's direct attack on Tana
and her work was anything but bliss.
- Nice cold welds.
Yeah, that was a strong weld.
Where the *bleep is the power around here?
- I don't think she has the skills to pay the bills, dude,
that's my freaking personal opinion.
[Welding sounds]
- Hey, how about that?

I ain't gonna look like a jackass
'cause we fail.
[Cries]
- I don't know.
Maybe the stress is getting to him
and that's why he lashed out like that.
It doesn't feel good when you're on my side of the fence.
- It sucks.
It like undermines the whole thing about a team.
You know?
It's about everybody pulling together.
- Part of the show I think is
is to show the, the rawness
of the reality that we're dealing with
- [Voiceover] For the School Bus Pontoon Boat episode,
Builder Jimday day had a bad day.
- Look at it.
You could see the poles deflecting man.
They're like bent over about an inch.
It's like I said that about six times.
You know, I spent all week making this thing.
You guys want to destroy it in a couple hours?
- Hey you need a brace?
- Damn it.
- Jim's mad.
- I cannot believe it.
- It's nothing personal.
- You know - I take it personal.
- this is my job,
- you know, I'm trying,
I'm defending my crew,
you know, I'm working with these guys.
We working really hard
- In case you didn't notice,
this is my crew, you know,
and what I say goes here,

The end.
- [Voiceover] Then there were the two failures.
The first was the hearse car crusher
and what has come to be known as the curse of the hearse.
The team got along great,
but went down in flames,
- Fired up five days?
Really?
- We'll do it in three.
- The build team came into the garage confident,
maybe too confident.
- Between all the people
and the skills set, there isn't anything we
can't overcome with this project.
- Yeah.
- And they were playing for the camera
and they had all sorts of stuff in the garage
and they were so excited about being on TV.
They just lost sight of of the target.
- This is what happens when you piss off Jesse James.
- That's right.
- Okay yeah, yeah.
You're on tv.
Get back to work.
- There was a strange kind
of weird vibe throughout the garage.
Certainly had a lot of fun
and were kind of like loopy in a sense.
And even Jesse, we have shots
of Jesse slam dancing at in the Garage.
I don't think we've ever gotten that again.
So the whole week was totally different than any
other week in the garage.
- [Voiceover] It's the George Baris Original TV Batmobile.
Holy delay, Jesse.
It's another distraction.
- What are you doing over here,
- Jesse what are you doing here?
- Trying to weld.
- It started looking pretty good
near the end on the last day.
And you're actually rooting for them.
And you always, you're thinking, geez,
I hope this works.
I hope this works.
- Go Berta
[engine starting]
- Hey, what happened?
- We seized one of the pumps.
- With the hearse failing,
I cut the goal down.
I said, all I wanna see is the auger turn
and the arms come up and down
and you guys can have their tools.
- Turn it on.
- Yeah.
- See?
- There's just too much slack in it.
- Too slack.
- There were a number of things that didn't happen.
They ran outta parts.
- [Voiceover] Bart installs their last belt.
- We'll never be able to get it on.
- Alright, so
- [Voiceover] It's do or die time.
And they all know it.
- And the hydraulic lines kept breaking.
- [Voiceover] Jose and Dorn fixed the hose leak.
The ripper roars to life.
And the hydraulic heart begins pumping blood
to the scavenged limbs of the beast.
But then disaster.
- And then it became apparent towards the end
that the whole thing was not going to work.
- No. Let's say we tried to run one pump right now.
See what happens.
- Well, command decision.
You guys want me to BS you?
- You want the truth?
- Truth.
- We didn't do it.
This is the one that fails,
that's reality.
- And midnight on Friday night,
it couldn't do it.
And you know,
was kind of a bummer, you know.
- I hate losing.
I think it sucks.
But you know,
- If we have had more time,
at least about four or five hours.
- I'll make a reasonable judgment
of what it needs to do
or you're not getting your tools.
- That's it.
- Anybody don't know what they're made of
until they come up against something like this.
- Beers was in Washington or something.
He called me the next day
and I'm like, I told him what happened and
- Jesse called me and he said,
we failed.
- I'm bummed.
And I thought for sure he was gonna,
you know, say, well,
we need to redo it or something,
or we gotta make it work or something.
- And my first response was, that's terrific.
He was like jumping up and down.
He goes, you mean it didn't make it and it caught on fire
and and it was drama and you got pissed and left?
He goes, oh my God, that's great.
- And he is like,
what do you mean that's terrific?
I said, because it's great.
We failed.
This validates us.
- That's the difference between Jesse
and Hollywood, you know, I want 'em all
to make it and all to do good.
And I'm going to, I'm not gonna sandbag it.
I'm gonna try hard and
and try to make sure that happens.
- [Voiceover 2] You've heard him say it before.
He hates failing.
And if the head mechanic
at the monster garage misses a deadline,
you can bet he's taken someone down with him Frank.
- [Voiceover 3] That's hitch wag.
- [Voiceover 2] This week long ordeal
- We didn't even know
that thing existed.
This car destroyer,
this car shredder,
this guy gave us this tour
and at the end of the tour he says,
well, if you'd like,
we'll throw a can of propane gas in it so when it goes
through the shredder,
it'll blow up.
Would you like that?
And we thought about it
and said, well, yes,
we would like that very much.
♪ Boom. Boom.
- [Voiceover 2] You gotta be kidding me.
- [Voiceover 3] Oh my God.
Can you believe it?
- That was like a million dollar shot
we got for like eight bucks.
- [Voiceover 2] Let's see that again.
♪ Boom. Boom.
- [Voiceover] Failure number 2

For the many fans who never got to see the final demise
of this subpar monster.

- [Voiceover] Day seven.
It's the big challenge,
the showdown,
the Mano A Mano
and the chance to let a week's worth of blood, sweat,
and well shine brilliantly for the world to see.
But before Jesse
and his crew can bask in the glory of their achievement,
- Yeah,
- [Voiceover] Every monster gets a fresh coat
of cool courtesy of Tom Pruitt.
- We've kind of run the gamut of colors.
I think we've done flames and we've done metal flakes
and pearls and candies and we've done some chameleon
and we've, we've pretty much used about every different
product there is to use on on paint material
- [Voiceover] For many,
Tom's greatest paint job was the Ford F-150 turn nut shaker
to create a unique wood grain in the flames.
He used an old family technique.
- [Tom] This wood grain process was developed
by my grandfather back in 1942.
He used to do it on the model A dashes,
and he passed down to my dad and passed down to me here.
This is kind of a lost technique.
Probably hasn't been used for 40 or 50 years.
It's kind of an old family trick.
- [Voiceover] As the paint dries on Tom's vehicular canvas,
a small army prepares for a monster as*ault.
The Day 7 challenge.
- sh**ting the challenges is a challenge.
I mean, that's when we pull out all the big g*ns.
We were flying around in helicopters.
We're traveling to locations.
- [Girl] Did you choose Cinderella's?
- [Producer] A garage TV show
with the Discovery Channel produced
by original production?
- [Biker] Yo.
Yo Home Slice,
Camera guy.
Boz.
Did you get that flip?
[Upbeat Music Plays]
- Gimme the good deal what do you think?
- [Biker] I can't believe we pulled it off.
- It's a huge amount of fun.
Huge amount of hassle.
- [Voiceover] After the challenge,
our monsters come to rest in the garage
or hit the road.
Auto shows and special events give fans a chance
to see their favorite monsters in the flesh.
- We're all huge fans of this show.
- Wow.
- I love the Porsche.
- [Voiceover] Every monster
that leaves the garage means another success
for Jesse and his maverick mechanics.
But for the producers, the real work
of creating a one hour television show has just begun.

It's turning a car into a donut maker

It's turning 150 hours of tape into a television show.
- [Voiceover] The behind the scenes transformation
of endless tape into TV is a battle of picking

- [Announcer 7] Against the nastiest.
- [Announcer 8] The industrial strength.
- [Announcer 9] Lean mean.
- [Announcer 10] Big tire mud suckers
in Southern California.
- And this is where it all goes down, folks.
This is where it all takes place.
- [Frank] For the fist time in monster Garage History.
The man behind the most,
- It's all about the wheelie Schwag,
the competition couldn't be similar,
- Simpler,
- What did I say?
- You said similar.
- But before he races,
Jesse needs to spin the wheels on his wheelie wagon
For the challenge,
the team installed a new engine on their monster.

- [Frank] We're looking at a real 911 call Swag.
The rescue car needs rescuing

- It's fine. Just fired up.
- Jesse James is going to risk being barbecued alive just
for the thrill of a wheelie.
Now that's some big breast cahones in my book.
- They're lined up at the start.
The Christmas tree is going green.
They're all,
He's crazy.
But no risk, no reward.
- It's truly all about the wheelie.
- [Voiceover] The wheelie car
is one of the many maniacal machines
that made up the heavy metal Season 1
of Monster garage.
- [Swag] Jesse James is juking and jiving.
He's looking to jam the biscuit hole.
- [Frank] Oh yeah, look, king is running
and gunning,
- [Swag] Pumping a 25 gallons of water a second, Frank.
- [Frank] Look at how fast he's going already swag.
He's up to 30 miles an hour.
Firing out all cylinders.
Jesse goes for the k*ll.
- [Swag] It's a bombardment.
- [Frank] It's a barrage
- [Voiceover] To Jesse,
It's a job.
To the producers,
It's a TV show.
But to the fans,
it's a hat off Salute
to the working class hero.
In a world of prefab fashion
and stock vehicles,
there's a place
where true craftsmanship is celebrated
at least for an hour.
- [Frank] Well, there's no time
for fun and games birdies.
Butts and driving.
Slow goers, snowblowers.
And dumb questions from the producer.
- [Producer] So, Jesse, after it's all done, why?
- Hey, if I have to explain why,
you know.
- Yeah, we're in trouble.

He's got metal to burn.
