traveled halfway around the globe I'm
in sunny California behind me is LA my

mission is to track down super rare
classic cars fix them up and sell them

on for a profit and when Mike finds
the cars this is where they're gonna be

sent to our workshop here in the UK
got my spanners primed I can't wait to

find out what I'm in for this time well
Ed wait no longer because I'm gonna

track down a car that's no stranger to
the silver screen it's seriously cool and

very iconic it's time to fire up your
flux capacitor as we head back to the.


in we don't need roads.

I don't need to tell you what car
this is the DeLorean is one of the

most memorable and iconic motors in
the world it played a starring role in back

to the future one of the 80s biggest
movies once Martin McFly g*n the DMC to


Twin Pine Mall Valley car park the car.

blasted into the future and into history.

John DeLorean fulfilled his vision to
build an international supercar from

scratch enlisting top designers and
engineers but the Belfast based company

collapsed after only nine years
DeLorean's legacy to car fans is an

unforgettable brushed stainless steel
dream machine I really really want this.

car before I come out here I'd look
how many DeLoreans there were for sale

in the whole of Europe and how
many do you think I found three and they

were all within spitting distance of


bigger country there's a lot more
choice there's hundreds for sale and

they seem to go for about half of that
so being here saves me money but every

silver lining has a cloud some of the
cheaper DeLoreans are on the other side

of the country that's
thousands of miles away.

now the best car I can find locally
is on an Internet auction site it's

got a buy it now price as sixteen and
a half thousand dollars in the pictures

it looks juicy enough but to get a
handle what the cars really like it's

best to talk to the
owner jump on the phone.

hello there I'm ringing about the car
you got advertised off the bat it sounds

interesting the cars only done


makes it worth a closer look bye wow

there's too much good stuff about
this car to ignore so I'm gonna hit the.

road or the highway or whatever
they call it over here and go and see it.

now this DeLorean is about six hours
away in the UK that would seem like a

hellish journey but here in America
well it's the equivalent of popping

around a shop for a pint of milk you
just jump behind your big old SUV.

stick the cruise control on
and suck in the countryside.

this is Wheeler-dealer in at USA
style only an hour out of LA and the

last blue skies it's all one big road
movie I hope mine has a happy ending now

I'm really excited about seeing this
DeLorean come on it's the start of back

to the future it's really iconic
but if it's not a good car it won't be

worth the cost and effort of getting
it back to the UK what I need to do.

with this one is separate my emotions
from the metal wow there it is look the

DeLorean oh it's gorgeous isn't it you
must be the owner yeah how you doing

Mike Corky yes Corky it's a pleasure
to meet you I love these cars I'm very

excited about this so Corky how'd you
come by the car I came across the car

down off a 17 mile drive in Pebble
Beach and I mean it's a great solid

car I've done a few things to get it
back on the road again what were the.

repairs done have you done some of
the heavy work yourself I've done the

complete fuel system clean the tank
out that kind of stuff you're very good

with the spanners thing yes I am
fantastic well listen I've traveled a

long way to come and see this car can
I kick off yeah I mean one of the things

that I see immediately as I come
up and I've just noticed another one.

little dent in the roof and there's a
dent here yeah on the bonnet couple

little dents that's a problem isn't it
because with a painted car you could

just fill those in and then you
can paint over them but the car like

this is you need somebody who's
got a bit of expertise absolutely this is a

bondo free car bondo free car it's
very true now the wheels I mean they

look great initially but once you have a
really good look at them they need a bit

of work as well don't they it's still
great though isn't it look at the shape

of it that's a shame look at that
that thing at the back there that's.

busted off it's a nice little job for
somebody to do right now the motor

or as we say the engine that looks
alright does it nice and clean solid

motor it only has a little less
than 24,000 miles on it it's very low

mileage okay that's fantastic so it's
good good strong engine now these

rear lights there's something awry
here isn't there that one's yellow at the

back and this one's white what's going
on there that's that's a little bit sun

fading right so it needs a new rear
lamp on that side as well all right so

good look inside yeah take a look I
love these gold wing doors oh look at

that it's fantastic isn't it now a
weak point of these are these gas

struts they usually go there but this
one looks pretty strong yeah these

struts are brand new I bought all
the struts for the car and replaced all

those fantastic okay and inside the
sun's had a real good time with this one

isn't it because it's taken its toll
you can see that the leathers cracked

the seat split dashboard pinnacle
that's all cracked as well I mean as

far as the seat covers they're
replaceable and the foam underneath is

still in great condition okay and
does the electrics work inside here

everything works except the power
windows I haven't got those fixed yet

okay is it right to have a sit inside
go ahead jump in oh it fits like a

glove in here all right
let's fire it up fire it up.

and all this stuff works yeah
everything works even the low fuel

light works I see the the gear shift
gator here that's a that's busted we

might have to change that that
looks great obviously the proof is in the

pudding with these DeLorean's it's
about getting it out on the road and

getting there as I say the wind beneath
my beneath my wings so is there any

chance I can take this for a test
drive absolutely last test drive I did

in the UK was this Wyndham in
the rain yeah I think I prefer the USA.

well now I'm away from Corky let
me tell you just how excited I really am

I'm driving a DeLorean
a DeLorean they only

made 9,000 of these very
few people have had the

opportunity to drive one like I'm doing
right now and that makes me I mean I'm

staring at the same dials that Michael J
Fox as Marty McFly would have done in

back to the future the dashboard is
designed by the same guy we've done

the Lotus Esprit this is an
automotive work of art and I feel so

honored to be driving it it
feels really tight in this car the

engine it's strong it's got good
power nice out of these twisty roads.

and the gearbox beautiful very very
sweet so mechanically this car is spot

on.

the interior is a bit of a mess and
there's those cosmetic jobs on the

outside and there's always the risk
of the stuff underneath I don't know

about just yet but overall I'll tell you
what it's a good car Corky seems to

be right in the ballpark with these
figures he's asking 16 and a half

thousand dollars which when
you convert into pounds it's just over


one of these cars but you know what I'm

like I'm a Wheeler dealer if I can
get this but under 10,000 pounds I'm

gonna be laughing all the way to the
shipping yard well that was really good

fun who's this young man this is my son
Joe hey Joe how you doing I bet you've

had some fun in this car haven't
you do you like it love it you love it well

unfortunately I love it too so
I've sort of made my mind up it's

definitely the car that I want but
I'm a little bit nervous about some

things the closer you get to this
car the more thoughts you see plus

there's the hidden stuff underneath
that I'm worried about how much did you

advertise it for is 16 5 or 16 5
is what I want for the car well I

had bought cash for me and I got


will you do 16 he's a little Wheeler

well you're at 16 I'm at 15 why don't
we say we meet in the middle 15 5 when I

meet in the middle deal yes cracking
I've just bought myself a DeLorean the

shake of a hand seals me what I
hope is a great car but the adventure is

only just starting because this motor
has a very very long journey to make

from sunny California back to the
UK and when it is back I've got to see

if we can turn this silver DMC into
gold I came all the way to the USA to

find a very special very unusual
car the trip was worth it just bought

myself a DeLorean yep you heard
me I bought a DeLorean there's nothing.

very excited can you hear anything
though neither can I I expected to hear

police sirens by now because I've
nicked this DeLorean I think I've stolen

it $15,500 this car is
for nothing now I've got

this journey to do to
take this car to the docks.

the DeLorean does divide opinion
some people say it's not a hardcore sports

car and it's not engineered very well
and you know what those people could be

right but those people are missing the
point because from the age of 5 to the

age of 95 everyone points at this
car and says DeLorean and that truly

makes it one of the world's
best iconic motors and I think

one of the best cars will
ever do on Wheeler-dealers.

but it's not all good news because
the electric windows don't work in this

motor and I knew that when I bought it
and as you can see outside this window

it's a bright hot sunny
day and inside the car it's

the same temperature
it's the center of the Sun.

now I want to consider my strategy
with the DeLorean very carefully that's

because we could just ship it back to
the UK for our bucket of water over it

minor repairs and flip it
round for a small profit.

I think this car deserves more I want
to go through this car from tip to toe

and give it exactly what it deserves
Ed isn't gonna see daylight until this

motor is a hundred percent the
Sun is shining the motors great the.

roads are fantastic and
I'm driving towards a profit.

three weeks later and we're back in
Blighty the DeLorean is trailing from

the Thamesport dock as it's not yet
road-legal and unloaded on private

property so at least I can drive
the last few meters up to our garage.

you're back I am back I'm back from
America or back from the future it's a

DeLorean is an awesome car Ed
that is very very cool although just a

little bit tatty like the wheels could
do with being refurbished perhaps it's

nothing really I mean nothing that
you can't handle a little bit but then also

you know this lovely stainless steel
body it's got all these dents in it look

at some on the roof yeah there's a
dent here on the roof there's a dent.

there I reckon actually I might need
to get a specialist in so you stop your

moaning you'll be working on a
DeLorean stop your griping gonna get

you see in there I have to say I
have been looking forward to this

moment because I really do
love these cars and you can do it.

the DeLorean was a big man these
are supposed to be spacious motors and I

don't I don't fit but you
look so cool Ed look at you

sitting in a DeLorean it
sort of matches you this car

you're sort of wacky nature in this
wacky car you sort of go together

well that's very kind of you hopefully
I'm in slightly better condition though

look at the state of this vinegar
it's all cracked and split you've got

this nasty data on the gear stick
don't panic all this stuff is readily

available come on Ed you can do it come on
there you go what do you think of it then?

well I do love the back end of
this car it's very very cool but

straight away you can see this lens
here is looking very tired a bit of sun

damage perhaps or something a bit faded
don't worry about that that's all in hand

okay now the one thing that we
do have to worry about is this rear

louver which sort of adds to the
iconic shape at the back of the car

it's broken on this corner it is
that's not gonna be an easy fix

actually just because you need
to reinforce it or it's gonna snap off

again but also look there's a crack
up here as well that's gonna need to be

sorted as well so easy for you to do
now underneath here you lift up one

hood and there's another hood it's
important to have two bonnets on the

car it is you would think that
underneath here is gonna be some 5 litre

v8 f*cking big but it's just a v6
but there you go it's just a 2.8 liter v6

and that is a PRV engine it's Peugeot
Renault and Volvo developed this

engine and it's fine it runs beautifully
so this car was got a bit of French in

it yeah it's got a little bit of Swede
in it it was bolted together by the

Irish and then flogged to the Americans
it's all in good shape except for one

thing okay on the route over here it
had a little bit of a tearful moment all to

itself and drop just a little bit of oil
underneath now I seem to remember

that there are a couple of leaks
on this car that it regularly would get

and those are quite easy to fix
but there is a one k*ller oil leak which

means I actually have to take out
the out of the gearbox or the engine to

fix that'd be an absolute nightmare
of course it will and it won't be those

it'd be a little leaky some plug it'd
be nothing there don't worry about

it how much did you pay for this I
give less than ten thousand pound

that's not bad but we have got
a lot of work to do on this it's a lot

of work but listen it will be worth it
trust me because any one time around the

world there's only a handful of DeLoreans
for sale okay in Europe is even less

okay what we need to do is make
sure our car is the best it could

possibly be that way I reckon we can get


well it's kind of
exciting but obviously

there's a lot of work
to do just get it in the

workshop cool first thing I've got to
say is a big thank you to Mike I love

these cars I love the way they look I
love what they stand for John DeLorean

had a real vision when he wanted
to make this car a reality and I really

respect that our car unfortunately has
some way to go though there are a whole

loads of jobs on the list I've got to
do bodywork paint work electrical

stuff mechanical stuff interior stuff
tons of things have got to be done the.

first time I'm going to start with
some people might think of as a little bit

insignificant mass deal with the oil
leak coming from the engine leaks

aren't acceptable even on a 30 year old
car until you dig in you never know how

difficult the fix will be a tiny little
weep could mean tears for me now

this engine has two notorious seals
that tend to leak and one of them is

the water pump seal and I can't see
any moisture there at all it's a good

thing if I come around here the
other one is the oil pressure sender unit

and that's also it's dry as a bone
which is good but in that case also bad

because it means our leak is
coming from somewhere else.

wow it's pretty obvious now I'm under
the car you can really see where the oil

leak is coming from basically the
gearbox is absolutely dripping with it

but it's not the gearbox itself that's
leaking if you follow all that moist

metal to the front of the gearbox you
can see actually it's where the seam

between the gearbox and the engine
where the oil is coming from which means

it's the crankshaft or flower oil seal
and that is an absolute nightmare

because what that means is I have to
take the gearbox out then you can get

to the part before I can actually change
it and to do that I need to take off all

kinds of other little bits and pieces
so one job in I've already got a massive

headache thanks Mike first the drive
shafts are disconnected then the gear

linkage needs to be unbolted and
then I've got to disconnect the handbrake

and then fish out the cable which runs
between the rear wheels next I use a

transmission Jack to
support the weight of the

gearbox while I carefully
unbolt the gearbox mount.

well now finally the gearbox is ready
to be separated from the engine but it

is a big lump of heavy metal so
I'm just gonna get Paul in to give us a

hand because otherwise we might
drop it after all four hands always better

than two using a pry bar to ease
the gearbox away from the engine

there's just a couple of extra
bolts to go and then the whole unit is

suddenly free for a few moments
though things are a little precarious.

it might look straightforward but
getting just this far would set you

back around 250 pounds in labor fees
at the garage we've not even got to the

seal yet that lies behind the clutch
assembly and the flywheel this is a

perfect opportunity just to check the
condition of the clutch and as you can

see it looks pretty much brand-new as
the previous owner had mentioned they

had done so it's good that they
are being honest with this also I

noticed that the sl*ve
cylinder is brand-new as

well so this car has been
looked after rather well.

and right around the crankshaft lies
the weakest link that oil seal which has

been clearly leaking the
crankcase is precious lubricant.

well there we go all that work just
for this little seal here now you can

tell it was leaking I can't actually
see any really obvious kind of signs of.

damage but the point is it's going to
be changed and the new one is here

different color but it does exactly the
same thing it's the same size in fact if

anything it might do a little bit
better job because you can see these

little ribs in the top there and each
one of those is going to stop any oil

coming out which is fantastic and
a little top tip just rub the surface of

that with oil that means it gets a
nice seal and it makes it easier to get

back into position with my seal ready
to be hammered home I hope the leak is

now history but I'll
be keeping a close eye

on the garage floor
over the next few days.

I've now got to tackle the reassembly
which should take a few hours.

well finally this job is finished now
Mike thought this little oil leak was

going to come from something simple
like perhaps a bolt or a sender and it

turned out it was so simple all I had
to do was take out the gearbox well

is now done is leak free but Mike you
owe me big time well maybe Ed you'll be

owing me because when I was in
the States I went shopping for stuff you

need now in the 80s DeLorean made
enough parts to build 35,000 cars yet

only 9,000 were completed so here in
the USA there's a veritable spare parts

mountain and this company here owned
a lot so they should have the bits I'm

looking for hi how you doing hello

spoke to you on the phone oh excellent
well what a wonderful looking place

this is well thank you we're proud of
it now I was hoping you could help me

out with some parts I need for my
DeLorean we can do it want to come on

back cool parts store just right around
the corner here now look at this place

it's amazing oh whoa look at
that this is the car from back to the

future yep that's the next thing I'm
working on it's my personal car well

what have you built this for well
for personal things and also for

renting out to Hollywood movies
and things like that look at it inside oh

you've got a flux capacitor
we can even turn it on here for

you oh wow that is fantastic
how long does it take to put this

together this one's taken me about
three years three years so it's a real

labor of love it really is but a lot
of fun well it's wonderful absolutely

love it let me tell you go for it it's
cool very cool anyway I need be

part let's get to yours look at this
the legends cave brilliant right so the

bits that I need are some seats my
seats are finished so they're perished I

need to replace the two front seats
can you help me out there we can get new

ones but they're a little pricey they're
about thousand dollars each wow that's

expensive what most people are doing
we have brand new seat covers made

you've got those we actually have
right here yeah very nice how much of

these they're $5.99 for the set
it's gonna be worth it isn't it oh yeah

yeah I've definitely have those that's
great yeah fantastic I then need and I

understand this is quite rare
it's called the dashboard binnacle

pinnacle correct here it is engraved
oh look at that that's gonna look

fantastic yeah yeah those are


fantastic definitely one of them
perfect so that's the interior all

looking nice but on the exterior
car one of the rear light lenses is

broken I'm going to replace it okay
left or right left left okay we have a

left one right here this is an NLS the
new part you see this is a brand new

part so this has been sat on the
shelf for 30 years waiting for me to

come along and buy it yes it has
what's gonna happen when all the parts

run out we have the blueprints and
designs to every single part on the

car and what we'll do is we'll
either remake it exactly the same as

original or better you are
the gatekeepers aren't you for

everything there's really are in the
future pretty much yeah we love the cars

and we want to keep them going
forever okay well I mean it's brand new

how much is that those are 120


those bits right how much does
that come to to let's see 1183 do you

know what it doesn't sound quite
as expensive as that when I convert it

from dollars to pound sterling so
yeah I'm quite happy with that I'll

work so great everything about the
DeLorean feels exotic and different but

at the end of the day we've got to turn
a profit on this sleek motor an average.

car would sell for 16
to 18 grand but average

isn't a word I want to
associate with our car.

this is the DeLorean DMC 12 an
elegant iconic attention-grabbing car

and one which certainly grabbed Ed
with all the problems is encountered so far

we want this to end up being one of
the best cars on sale in Europe that way I

reckon we can get 20 grand for it
with double our money some would say.

this is a tall order for the tall man
they'd be right next up I want to

address the shabby condition of our
DeLorean now however rare this car is

we're never gonna get the big bucks
in its current condition the stainless

steel bodywork is dented and that
needs a specialist and the wheels are

rather past it and need to be
refurbished so it's off to the powder

coaters for these there'll be around


thing I will tackle myself is the
broken rear louver panel there are at

least 500 pounds for a replacement
so it's well worth trying to repair in

house the first thing I'm gonna
look at is probably the most difficult

which is replacing this missing wing
piece now before I go any further I

need to grind back all the paint
in the area just to see how bad the

damage is working with fiberglass
liberates tiny glass particles so your

breathing mask needs to have the best
filter available to protect your lungs.

and for preparing the surface I'd
recommend a medium-grade sanding disc.

well now I've got rid of the top
layer of paint I can actually see.

what's going on underneath and you
can see here where it's been damaged for

quite some time water and dirt
actually get in between the laminations.

and they can kind of blow the whole lot
apart so what I need to do now is grind

back all this fiberglass here and then
that way there'll be a nice clean area

ready for me to attach new
stuff to do the repair properly.

it's much stronger bonding with a
lap joint than a butt joint so I'm trying

to create a larger
feathered area to work with.

okay now I've got a really good key
in the fiberglass here ready for some

new fiberglass but what I haven't got
is any kind of support if I started laying

stuff up it would just kind of flop
and sag down and look terrible and it's

finished so what I need to do now
is give it a support I'm going to use.

polyurethane foam it's the same
stuff they make surfboards out of all I

have to do is cut it to
size then glue it to the

underside I'll trim the
fiberglass down later on.

okay well now it's time finally for
some actual fiberglass this is 600 gram

mat and you can see there it's like loads
and loads of different glass strands all

in kind of higgledy-piggledy order
and it makes it very very strong once you

got the resin in there now what
I want to do first of all is build up

the height because there's a bit
of a lip here so the idea is I'm just

going to pop this on this edge
there so if it's really butted up and

that's going to just make sure that
the level is all pretty much the same.

the aim is to layer it up with
decreasing weights of glass matting

finishing with a fine tissue close to
the surface once I've selected and

trimmed the sheets I'm going
to use I can start the repair.

well I've now got everything I need for the
next stage I've got my little mixing pad

here I've got my pieces of glass fiber
as well and I've got some resin some

catalyst it's about 3% of that by
weight I've also got some black gel

coat here and the reason I'm going
to add that is it's going to mean that

our gel cut to be nice and black
and a lovely even color throughout the

repair now the thing is when I
mix this lot up it's going to give me

about 10 to 15 minutes before the
chemical reaction is finished and the

plastic is about to be gone hard
so I've got to be pretty quick with this

making sure that I wet all of the
different pieces of glass before I put

them into place and then stipple
them finally into position this is a

suitable DIY job but top tip is to
practice before committing to a repair

as you've got to get this right first
time well that's great so this side

is now cured so what I have to do
now is flip the lid over I'm going to take

off the foam do a little bit of
grinding and I can start laying up some

more layers of fiberglass
on the other side.

I'm removing traces of glue and then
repeating the previous process this is

reinforcing my repair in the hour or
so it takes to completely cure I fixed

up the crack I spotted earlier same
procedure as before I finished off

with a skim of filler so I have to do
now is just finish off this repair here

and to do that I've now got obviously
some material I can cut into and kind of

shape another little wing tip so I
need to do is use that one on that

side that exists already to make a
little template up Mike will be happy

the fiberglass materials used so far
run to less than 20 quid from an online

supplier I'll throw in the red pen
and masking tape for free then it's a.

matter of lining up the
template and using a thin

cutting disc I follow the
outline of the wing tip.

after smoothing off with a sander
we've got a seamless repair that will

last for years it's now ready for
paint so I'll run some panel wipe over

to remove debris then some etch
primer then two coats of grey primer well.

the primer now done is ready for its
topcoat now Mike wants our DeLorean to

be the best on sale in Europe and
this is such an important part of the

car it's got to be absolutely mint
so I'm gonna do is send it off to a

specialist to the spray shop and
they can put a lovely satin black over

this and then it'll be as good as it
can possibly be and how you doing.

you're beginning to worry me I
see a pattern emerging I'll give you a

good car you strip it down make it
look a lot worse and it scares me well it

shouldn't scare you because this car
is actually on the mend I've done a few

little cosmetic bits and pieces I've
taken the wheels off they're now being

refurbished so basically you've taken
the wheels off and a couple of other

bits is that it no there was
another little times I remember that

little oil leak we had a problem
with yeah go on I reckon it was just a

little leaky sump plug that's what I
reckon obviously you're totally wrong

absolute nightmare now listen to
help you along to get you over the

finishing line I've got to book you
some presents you ready okay right I've

got you seat covers lightning and a
dashboard bin in court and in there

somewhere you'll find a gearshift
Gator it's all I have to do now is pop all

of that onto the carpet the car back
together again and then we're on the

road and when you do that you will
make me very happy I obviously have to

do my best there is no doubt about it
even in this condition our DeLorean is

a fantastic looking machine the
Gogaro design ticks all the boxes I can't

believe this is 30 years old it's iconic
it's timeless and it's elegant but not in

here it's obvious this is where all the
work has to be done we know from the

dents on the roof of this car has
been left outside and that hot American

Sun that Mike's always banging on
about has actually fried the leather

seats and made them go all brittle
and that means this interior has got their

showroom appeal of an old sock
I'm gonna deal with that a bit later on

with the Booty that Mike has got
from California first thing I want to deal

with is a stuff that doesn't actually
work at all and that's the electric

window winders you can see here I
just put the ignition on nothing going

on at all so with the switch out of the
dash I can now check to see whether

we've got any power actually going to
that switch and there we go we've got


check is the continuity of the switch

itself so that sides okay as is that
so the switch is okay too so really the

only other thing it can be wrong
with this is are there's a break in the

wiring between the car and the door
or perhaps the regulators jammed or the

motor doesn't work anymore and to
check any of those I need to take the door

card off going doors are a huge
attraction of this car and working on

them is challenging for two reasons
one you need to constantly pull them

low enough to work on and the other is
razor-sharp panel edges inside the door.

and voila here is our wider mechanism
you can see there's a motor that's where

the wires go and you've got a little
gearbox and that goes on to this kind

of spirally spring type device now
you can see straight away there's loads

of corrosion so I think really what's
happening waters been getting in

through sort of the seals of the
window this little drain clearly hasn't

been doing its job either and I think
the whole thing is just see solid so

unfortunately it's gonna have
to go but the good news is

that many DeLorean parts can
be turned around in 24 hours.

this is our shiny new window winder
so the part we're gonna put onto our

vehicle is actually slightly different
to what came out of it so I have to

modify it slightly just got to move
these two bars onto one bolt and put

them in different direction also just
got to take that screw out there and put it

into there and hopefully it should fit
in straight away but just to show you

how it works so what I do is just
attach it to the battery there you go

so the window is down window is up
simple as that because the windows are

small and the motors are around 250
pounds a pair plus fitting owners don't.

always swap out broken or failing
motors let's see if my repair works.

well it might be a tiny window but
there's a huge smile on my face now

got that working all I have to do
now is put the door cards on put

everything back together again and
then get on with the other side Ed's

already taken great strides with this
car it's definitely a better machine but

brilliant the pressure on it to finish
this car to top standard is growing.

the DeLorean is a quirky classic
car that's not easy to work on and it's

always ready to throw up new challenges
and battle with its numerous demons

and it's nearly time for it to drive
out the workshop and into the

ownership what would make my Christmas
is a 20,000 tail price on this car

buyers for these motors are pretty clued
up and if it isn't literally one of the

best cars for sale in Europe we won't
get close to the asking come on it make

this your finest hour the time has
come for me to sort out the remaining

nasties on the car we've got these
worrying dents here and we've got the

pants interior now these dents are a
real headache because stainless steel is.

a much harder material than mild
steel which is what most cars are made of

of course also it's the actual bare metal
itself which is on display now I could

have a go myself I think it's gonna be
much more effective and more efficient

if I get a specialist in enter Chris
Nicholson a bit of a celebrity on

the DeLorean scene he's the go-to
man if you've got issues with stainless

steel bodywork hi Chris hey g*ng
that's good I think I seem to have.

something that you probably don't have
which is the dented DeLorean so how do

we go about sorting this out we'll
be using what the factory used which

is a brushing tool to actually reproduce
exactly what you see there it could be

time-consuming but the efforts are
well worth it when it's all done that is

amazing well you make it sound
really simple I'm sure it's gonna be a lot

harder than that and I'm really
worried about those two dents on the

roof they seem to me anyway to
be the hardest thing to repair so it's

alright if I just let you get on and work
your magic no problem please put on

a kettle with the roof panel off
the car Chris uses specialist tools to

beat the dent out this compressed air
driven sandpaper drum removes minor

imperfections in the metal closely
followed by a mad Max style brush

device that uses horsehair and fine
sandpaper to regrain the surface to

showroom standard the second smaller
dent in the bonnet is poked out from

behind and then rebrushed on average
each dent takes two and a half hours

than cost 150 pounds so
we're 300 pounds down so far.

Chris that is fantastic well I mean I
think you've earned your drink thank you

really appreciate that is amazing look
at this I mean you can't actually see.

waves on the repair and I look notice
you've kind of brushed over the whole

panel rather than just the bit you
repaired to make it look really zing

that's fantastic so anyway to do it
properly that is amazing I guess the

only downside of doing all this work
especially on the bonnet as well is

that now you got to do the rest of
the car so I better take that back you

better crack on with the dents and
brushing done I'm racing against time to

add the finishing touches and
complete the car I whip out the split seats

revealing the remains of a dead
lizard these stinky carpets need to go.

likewise the busted binnacle Mike
found me a replacement from the USA

designed to fit exactly and look better
than the original Doc Brown would be

pleased and Marty McFly would certainly
approve of these new carpets the new

rear light lens winds back the clock
to the dawn of the yuppies just in time

for the repainted Louvre panel to
join the party there's a whiff of new

leather as I slide on the new seat
covers which at $500 come in at less

than half the price of new seats even
the gear shift Gator gets an upgrade.

all of a sudden it looks the business in
here am I forgetting something oh yes

the sandblasted and powder-coated
wheels have returned and are ready for

their audience after all that the car
is finally finished I've always wanted

to restore a DeLorean but this car
took an awful lot of work to drag it

back but at least now I can say
I've given it a future this is a DeLorean

DMC 12 a car that has traveled many
thousands of miles to be here and I

would say the trip the work and
the effort has been worth it we've got

something really special I went to
the USA to find a car that was good and

cheap and struck it lucky with
this motor but the little oil leak that

should have taken five minutes to fix
required the whole gearbox to be dropped

out of the car the broken fibreglass
Luger panel was repaired by its fair

hands saving us hundreds over
the price of a replacement the third

electric window motors needed to
be replaced the worry indents needed

specialists help to remove them from
view and the U.S. port seats carpets

Gator lens and pinnacle made the view
from inside much more pleasant and the

numbers the car cost nine six fifty
shipping and import duty two and a half

grand my travel expenses a bag of
sand then throw in all the other bits and

pieces and the DeLorean owes us
fourteen thousand seven hundred and

fifteen quid good value for such a
great car wow look at the DeLorean

fantastic like you've wound back
the clock I can't believe it's all back

together but are you mate in pieces I
probably should be it started off with a

big list of things to be getting done
and then of course it just got bigger

and bigger and bigger so I've done
a lot of stuff in quite a short space of

time I can see that look at it dent
free fantastic work lovely interior

or look at those refurbished wheels
well yeah I think whoever gets this

car is gonna be getting a lot of
car they certainly are but let's not get

hasty before we put the facade
sign on it I reckon it deserves one final

trip out in the sunshine what do you
say absolutely mate I've got a surprise in

store for Ed this is more than just a
country run I'm at a private estate in

Norfolk which has been for many
years the place DeLorean drivers come to

show off their cars well it does it
feel how does what feel how does it

feel to be in one of the most iconic
memorable and photogenic cars we've

ever done on Wieland England I have
to say it does feel pretty good but I also

do feel rather relieved because I
think your expectations were rather high

with this car obviously you want it
to stand out you wanted it to be the

best car for sale in Europe and that
is a really big ask a big ask indeed

Edward but look at the evidence mate
the car looks fantastic the bodywork is

brilliant the interior is like somebody's
just pulled the cellophane off it the

wheels they're brand new there's
no more elite all right you've done it I

reckon it's a cr*cker I'm glad to
hear that you are happy about this very

happy but listen at the end of the
day none of that matters what matters is

what those people out there think
the DeLorean crowd the real fans and

potential customers you
fancy me one or two one or two

one there might be one
or two more okay cool cool.

we're joining many other DeLorean's
at the Eurotech event cars have come

from all over the UK and even further
afield about one in five of the total

number of cars in the
country have come out to play.

well it praise be the Internet
because I put out in the forums that the

Wheeler dealer car was making an
appearance down here today and I've

already had quite a bit of interest
but the plan is that hopefully we're

gonna attract somebody here today
got some cash in their pocket willing to

have a deal with us it's quite a
risky plan it's a risky plan but it's one

worth taking travel around come on the
fact that Ed and I here is causing quite

a buzz and we're getting well stuck
in with a great group of enthusiasts.

everyone is seriously into their
cars it's a real treat but the real star on

the show is our DeLorean even at
the full 20 grand it's generated loads of

interest online and right here
people are going mad for it.

look at this looks like Ed's got a
bite on the car and I reckon I know

this guy is I think he's called Matt
because he's been emailing me in the

week he is a serious punter he did
say that if our car is good enough he just

wants to buy it and you know what
it's the perfect place to come and sell a

car because everyone's talking
about DeLorean's the sun's out and the

atmosphere is buzzing let's see if I
can close him down you ain't Matt I am

dad used to work for DeLorean so I've

always want one and now I've just
turned 40 I've decided now's the time I'm

gonna buy one what do you think of this
one I think it's it's lovely you've done

some really nice or Ed's on some
really nice work here no he's done a

great job the body works lovely
the interior is superb I love the wheels

and it sits on the road beautifully
yeah I know it's really nice can I

just have a quick work with Ed and

connection with the brand itself he
wasn't surprised his mom he's talking

Ed have got to work on one of the most

memorable and iconic cars ever on
