13x04 - 1980 Chevy LUV

Post by bunniefuu »

Say the word TRUCK and images of V8
monsters come to mind, not this vehicle.

So this is Truckee.

The 1980 Chevy Love.

This is Truckee.

Hello Truckee, nice to meet you.

Frequently overlooked but surprisingly
robust, a sleeper in the truck category.

A 1.8 litre, 80 horsepower
workforce capable of

carrying 1400 pounds of
whatever you need with ease.

Little Truckee is a happy little truck.

It has character, a character
that's a little rough around the edges.

Ignore the interior.

There isn't an interior.

Exactly, so you can ignore it.

We need to buy low,
spend low, but achieve

high to stand any
chance of making a profit.

Come on, give the love a little love.

Me and Ed, we did discuss
getting a classic American truck.

It's probably the most American
thing I've ever said, the word TRUCK.

Whilst I was digging
around on the Internet,

I've come across this
really interesting ad.

It said, Major Hipster Cred,
come and buy my Chevy Love.

The hipster market
is where I think we can

achieve the best profit
for a truck like this.

Their prices can range from a few
hundred dollars to around 5,000 Max.

And the one I'm going to see is
on for two and a half thousand.

Now, I don't think I need any
hipster cred, if I was to be honest.

I barely know what that means.

But the ad did catch my eye.

That got me thinking about hipsters and
marketing, and I'm driving around up here

in Northern California,
in fact, near wine country.

So I thought I'd put
a call in to the owner,

Amber, and find out
about that ad she wrote.

Oh, and see the truck.

How you doing, Amber?

I'm very well.

What a beautiful spot.

Thank you.

So this is the little truck?

This is the love.

This is the love.

So what can you tell me about your truck?

Because you are asking quite a bit
of money for your little Chevy Love.

You want $2,500 for it.

You've got to start somewhere.

You have got to start somewhere.

It's hard to go the other way around.

And I wouldn't want Truckee to be insulted.

Truckee?

Yeah, that's his name.

So tell me about
Truckee, because it says in

the advert that you've
done some mechanical work.

My dad and I put a new rebuilt engine into
it, and everything that goes with that.

Should we have a look under the bonnet?

Let's do.

So what have we got?

A new beautiful heart.

Very good.

I like that.

Yeah, you renewed quite
a bit of this, didn't you?

Dad wants his daughter to
be driving something safe.

Yeah.

Well, other than the obvious bumps, scrapes,
nicks, dents, nice big one in here, in

the side, I can already see
there's some good news.

The outside doesn't
belay what's underneath.

The price is starting to work now, see?

Now that's not so good, is it, Amber?

Where's the carpet?

It didn't match the drapes.

And I see you've gone for a
nice blanket, so let's have a look.

Ah, there you go.

I would say Truckee needs some new pants.

I mean, that is gone, isn't it?

We'll have to do something with that.

And this is quite a common
sight you see in California.

People get a little mat that
they put on top of the dash.

I gather you put this on
there for different reasons.

So it needs a new dash as well.

It's character.

It's a little bit more than character.

The interior of this
vehicle needs a lot of work.

So I see a lot of dollars being spent.

Oh, look, it comes with a free trucker hat.

Oh, that's made up for it.

Yeah.

Can't feel so much better.

Right.

Tell us about the bed.

We've had a lot of fun in this bed.

Well, I can't afford it.

I think it looks great in the
back here and very usable.

Is there any chance I could
take it out for a test drive?

If I come with you.

People give me the keys to their McLarens,
their Rolls Royces, and say, go, Mike,

go and enjoy it.

You could just run off with Truckee.

I don't know.

I won't run off with Truckee, but if
you want to come with me, that's fine.

Oh, no.

Yeah.

I do.

I can talk to vehicles,
and they can talk to me.

And I know immediately if
they're happy or if they're sad.

And I can tell you, little
Truckee is a happy little truck.

I think the very first thing
that I should try is the brakes.

And they work.

But mechanically, it feels fantastic.

The steering feels good.

The transmission, that feels good.

You can see this new
engine is performing well.

It's still got some pep to it.

He's really served us well.

We've taken him out to the ocean.

We've taken him to
visit family, camping trips.

Like a little reliable family member.

Very much so.

If we were to do a deal on this truck,
and I'm going to tell you straight away,

I don't think it's going to
be near the money that

you want, but if we were
to do a deal on the truck,

I would love to do the
right thing by this truck.

I think it needs to be
put back to being that

smiling little happy,
shiny little blue truck.

Poor little Truckee.

And I want to give this
truck back its little smile.

But to do that, it needs to
come down a lot in price.

How much did you really have in mind?

In pricing the truck at $2,500, I was
really hoping to not go lower than $1,500.

Well, okay.

I would have said that that
was a fair price until I see

that Truckee had a bruise,
literally, in every corner.

Well, in fact, everywhere
you look, to be honest.

Don't listen to him, Truckee.

I will turn this truck into
something that will make you proud.

My price could be $1,000.

Well, I get a good feeling from you.

Have we got a deal?

We've got a deal.

Super.

Well done.

I just bought myself a Chevy Love.

This truck's never going to
set any land speed records,

but at $1,000, I think there's
margin there big enough

to bring him up to spec
and still make some money.

Ed!

Ed!

Ed, you back there?

Ed?

Where are you?

Ed?

That means you are mine today.

How many toolboxes does
one man actually need?

This is one of the new ones that I ordered.

It's fresh.

I reckon this one, it should be mine.

Yeah, baby.

Look at that.

Now, that is definitely my toolbox.

Right, so I got me toolbox.

Better do some work.

Well, Ed's not around.

There is work to be done,
so I better crack on with it.

Amber blamed her little
incident, which is this,

rather nasty dent in the side of
the Fender here, on the brakes.

But when I test drove the vehicle, I
thought the brakes seemed all right.

So let's just quickly do a
brake inspection to make sure.

Right, so what have we got here?

With a disc.

Look at that.

Hardly any lip on it at
all, in really good order.

And the pads actually
look like they're new pads.

So that doesn't explain this
dent that Amber says she has.

I reckon maybe the
problem wasn't the brakes.

It was between the seat
and the steering wheel.

I think the only thing that
needs doing on this vehicle

straight away is to attack that bodywork.

I think I better take
that front bumper off.

And there we go.

So having taken many
cars apart in the past,

I know it's worth bagging up
anything you take off the car

and keeping it together and writing
a little label on the bag of what it's for.

In this case, bumper bolts.

It's heavy.

Anything I can do to help Ed out.

and give him a head
start by the time he sets

eyes on our little Chevy
will be good by me.

because he does work hard, that boy.

So what I'm going to do is mount
this bumper nice and close to this vise,

and I'm going to use
it as a levering stick,

if you like, to try and
pull some of that dent out.

Right, now I've been thinking
about how to get rid of this nasty dent,

which I suppose was the initial contact
that Amber had that caused all the damage.

And there's no easy way, really.

I've just got to sling
this over my shoulder,

put it on this big lead bag here,

and pound it with a hammer.

Where is Ed when you need him?

Hey, where is he?

Do that.

Which, with a little bit of Polish,

it's not been funny, almost as good as new.

Truckee receives a
once-over and a strip down.

Oh, dear.

There isn't an interior.

No, just ignore it.

We were looking for a
classic American pickup truck,

a 1980 Chevy love.

The appearance didn't show much
love, though, with its bumps and bruises,

but mechanically, Truckee
was a dream come true.

Little Truckee is a happy little truck.

The problem with this car is.

where that accident's happened
on that side, it's pushed the wing up.

If you have a look at this one,

it's so much lower than on that side.

I reckon the only way to cure this.

is to really pull this wing down,
and I'm going to do it with brute force.

Now, you may think you just hit the
centre of the lowest part of the dent,

and that's how you try to
bring the contour back to flat.

What you actually need to do.

is to start hammering
around the outside of the dent

and work your way in so
you do not stretch the metal.

Ha! Oh, dear!

The saddest part of our little Chevy love,

the bit that's had no love whatsoever,

the interior.

Just look at it.
Look, the headliner's gone,

the seats, well, they
aren't completely Fredbear.

No carpets, the dashboard,

we've got to do something with that.

I think the best thing for me to do
is to strip out as much as possible

before Ed sees it, because
I think he would go mad.

Now, the one thing about this
truck is it is going to be functional,

it is going to be usable.

I love the patina that this truck has got,

especially in the rear bed, but
if I was to sell it to somebody,

I don't know, who wants to carry sand,

then it ain't going to work really well
because there's this nasty hole in the back.

and Ed is going to have to tackle that.

and weld in some kind of patch.

And as I'm in the mood to help him out,

why don't I take the rear bed off?

That'll have a load of benefits, actually.

Number one is I can get to that chassis

and clean up all that grease
and that oil that's leaked.

Thanks, Phil.

I reckon this is going to be
too heavy just for us two as well,

so you two don't look like
you're busy at the moment.

Yeah, you two.

Come on, fellas.

Give us a hand.

Ready.

There you go.

Just drop it.

Lovely.

Okay.

Nice one.

It was well worth doing that, wasn't it?

Look at this.

Look at the access
we've got on the back now.

Look how easy it's going to
be to get to the suspension.

Oh, Ed's going to absolutely love it.

He's going to love this.

Now the rear bed is removed,

the next thing to do is suspension.

Now, here's a top tip for you.

Suspension is the piece that separates you

from the road surface.

So it's vitally important
that contact point.

is maintained and serviced regularly.

And you should always look after it.

He's just walked in behind me, hasn't he?

Has he?

Ed!

How you doing, son?

You all right?

I'm fine.

How long are you going to need?

Two weeks?

No, it's going to need a
little bit longer than that.

Welcome to our Chevy love.

Why is the truck bed off?

Well, you know, you weren't here,

so I thought I'd just have
a go at doing some stuff.

And I've been helping out.

Truck bed is off, already prepared for you.

I noticed it's got a little
hole down in that corner.

And if somebody's going to carry some
stuff around, they won't want a hole in it.

No, but you don't want a hole in it.

You don't really need to take the bed
off to fix that little tiny hole, do you?

Don't you?

What?

You could have done
it with it still on there.

Oh, right.

Well, anyway, it's a good
job I did take the bed off

because it gives access to the
chassis and to that rear suspension.

And what's wrong with the suspension?

Oh, you know, it's a little
bit hard, a little bit tired.

So I was thinking what we could
do is swap those shockers out

and we could put
air-adjustable shockers in.

Oh, you mean airbags, in fact?

Airbags.

Here you go.

That'd do it, wouldn't it?

And then you could clean
the rest of it up, but it'd be nice.

Ignore the interior.

You don't need to see that.

No, just ignore it.

There isn't an interior.

Exactly.

So you could ignore it.

I can get us an interior.

I can get the seats, find the carpets,
fix the dashboard, all that kind of stuff.

It was a real mess.

Like my workshop.

OK, so you bought this car from a hipster.

Who are you hoping to sell it to?

Oh, the hipster, really.

You know, the kind of
person that wants to have an

understated vehicle they can
drive around in and look cool.

Hanging outside of coffee bars.

Do you not want to go to coffee bars?

For the coffee?

No, they go there for the free Wi-Fi.

So why don't we give the
Chevy love a little bit of Wi-Fi?

OK, and some airbags,

and I guess we're not going to paint it.

No, I think we should
keep the patina as it is.

That's what makes this little truck cool.

People like to look understated.

Yeah?

OK.

Come on, give the love a little love.

Then you better go and find us a hipster.

Let's have a look inside here.

We've got what looks like a
pretty much brand new radiator.

Brand new master cylinder.

And as Mike suggested, it looks like
the engine is also pretty much brand new.

In fact, even got new
belts as well for the fan belt.

So I think Mike was actually
telling the truth, which is rather good.

It's actually looking pretty
tidy under here so far.

I'd say that there's a bit of a leak.

on the oil pan gasket there.

Another even bigger leak coming from the
prop shaft or also the back of the gearbox.

Over here, again, another
oil seal seems to have failed.

So a lot of oil seals needing doing,

but that's about it, so that's pretty good.

It's kind of mad to think
that a washer as small as

that can be responsible
for such a large oil leak.

Easily fixed with a replacement.

Now we get to the really serious oil
leak at the back of the gearbox there.

To fix that, what I
need to do is actually

remove the prop shaft.
As you can see, it slides

into the back of the gearbox, so I
need to disconnect it from the back axle.

This is the oil seal that I've taken off.

Now, I'm just going to
compare it with the new one.

And straight away, you can actually
see that the hole on the new one.

is actually smaller because.

there is a rubber lip on that one.

But this one has worn away,
which of course is why it was leaking.

So it's good news in a way,
because we found a problem

so I'm just going to
make sure that this is

nicely oiled up, both the
outside and the inside.

I'm just going to tap it in.

with a socket and a hammer.

That's that for the gearbox seal.

Now onto the seal
in the rear half shaft.

I've attached the flange of
this slide hammer to our half.

shaft, so what I'm going
to do now is just wind in.

this rod here.

Okay, so then what I have
to do is pull on here, and then.

if you look at the grease
there in the bearing

it is really, really runny,
and in fact if you look up

here, look at the state of
that, it's actually quite drippy.

And normally you'd expect
that grease to be a bit more.

lumpy, a bit more like a soft
spreadable cheese, if you like.

And what's going on is
there's a little seal just

inside there, and the
idea of that seal is to stop

the differential oil going all
the way down inside the axle,

and then mixing with the grease
on the bearing, and clearly it's

failing, so we'll change
that, change all the

grease out, and
hopefully, problem solved.

Now the tone has changed, so now
we're definitely seated, which is great.

And with that, that is
the last of the leaks dealt

with, so now what I need
to do is take the lub outside.

and get rid of all
that horrible dirt.

Now, part of my daily

routine, I always like to
swing in and pick up any

parts we need at the parts
store, and one that I like to

visit round here locally is a guy
called Jerry, he's been in the area

for absolutely yonks, and anyone who's
anyone around here doing any work on cars

swings in to go and get
their parts off him, but also to

pick his brains, and that's
exactly what I need to do, because.

we've got to do the suspension on the

Chevy Love, and he is a guy
who would know the right way to go.

How are you? Good.

So I've got this little Chevy Love, 1980,

great little pickup truck, we're just doing
some work on it, but now we're thinking.

of doing some improvements
to the suspension.

Ed is talking about putting air ride suspension
on it with airbags. I'm all in favour

of that, but I was thinking,
what's the alternative?

Well, airbags are a great way to go.

Dollar for dollar, they're
probably the best kit out.

The only problem is, on a
Love, they don't make a kit,

so you're going to have to fab
the kit yourself. We're talking about

$1,000 to $1,500 for a kit.

Okay, now that's kind of the money
I don't want to spend. Right, right.

Cheapest way to go would be the airshocks.

Airshocks are quick, easy install,

you can probably do it in an hour. How much
does that come to? Right around $100, $105.

Really? That's the pair of
shocks and the line kit. Let me just

think about this just for a second.
Hold on,

$1,500 or $100?

Right, right.
I'll go for the $100 version, yeah.

So I'll go for a pair of airshocks. What

about if I was to spend
a little bit more money on

upgrading it? You know, putting
a little compressor in, maybe

a Gauge with a control panel
or something? Because I know

how they work, those airshocks, you
have to fill them up with air yourself.

Sometimes you do it
in a gas station or do it.

with a foot pump. If you want to upgrade,
you can do an onboard compressor.

Inside the cab, you can
mount a Gauge with a

dial on it and you can
control it right from your

seat as you're driving.
That sounds great. How much is that?

About $249.

So all in all, about $350?

Correct. And that's a
significant saving over $1,500 of

fabricated stuff. Yes. Yeah, I
think I'll go for the cheaper option.

Do you have it on the shelf?
I don't have it on the

shelf, Mike, but I can
order it in and get it in about

two to three hours. You can?
Yes, you can. Brilliant.

I've just saved this close to.

$650, which is just under £460

by getting airshocks
instead of airbags, which

allowed me to buy separate
upgrade components.

Ed will be pleased with that.

It's a good time to make our
love appear a bit more loved, with

Ed giving the body some TLC.

Now this little device here does electronic

soft dent reduction.

Our Chevy love came to us at
a great price and mechanically

in great condition. The
multiple oil leaks have been

dealt with, but the bodywork
still has a way to go.

I've given the underside and the chassis

of the love a bit of a clean up.
It's going to need some

paint, but before I do
that, I thought I'd tackle

some of the dents that Mike hadn't
actually got round to messing with. Mike

hasn't given me a budget
to work with, and painting this

love is out of the question, as we would
never see the return on our investment.

Besides, I have a rather unique
approach to this challenge.

Right, so on to the bodywork.
Now, obviously, Mike

wants to sell this to a
hipster, and by his definition,

a hipster is somebody who spends
a huge amount of time and effort

trying to make themselves
look like they've spent no time

and effort at all. I want to
somehow translate that into

the look of our love's
bodywork. So, for example, this

repair here that's been
done very badly is not.

good, because somebody made an
effort. So what I need to do now is try and

repair this repair, so it
looks like nobody ever

attempted it. Hopefully that
makes some kind of sense.

I have to be careful
not to take things too far.

Our little truck is covered with a charming
worn patina, and it's mission critical

that what I fix blends nicely
with that existing wear and tear.

I've chosen to implement some of the
standard panel beating techniques, using

a plastic mallet to minimise the loss
of paint whilst massaging the metal.

It's now time to get in some small
damage repair. I've got two little machines

here, which are going to help me
out. I've got a hot glue g*n with a dent.

remover, a dent puller to be using as well,

and then this clever
little thing called a hotbox.

Now this little device here does
electronic soft dent reduction,

so I'll be using that first.

Now this clever little
hotbox is designed to do

paintless dent removal,
so rather than using big old

hammers, we're actually
going to be using induction.

Now the idea is that there's a load
of coils inside here, current is pulsed

through there, and then that
makes a kind of a magnetic

circuit with the metal beneath.
Now that causes heat, so the

metal is actually warmed up. So the idea is
I'm going to heat up all around this dent

here, and of course that's
going to make the metal expand,

it's going to pop it
back out into the original

shape. And unlike using a mallet, I reduced
the risk of taking any paint off at all.

That is amazing, just to think

that just the expansion of the metal alone

has been enough to
pop that little dent out.

Very cool.

My little love is riddled
with soft dent throughout.

My plan is to only remove
the most offensive ones.

So it's now time to have a
go with the glue puller. So the

idea is I've got my hot
glue g*n there, I'm going

to put a little dab of
glue onto this little tag

just here, and then I'm
going to put that into a dent,

hold it in place just while
the glue goes off, and then.

I use the little puller itself. This slots
into there like so, I can then adjust it

and use the handle,
I can actually then lift

it up and that will
pull the dent out. Now.

sometimes it takes a
couple of goes to actually get

the dent out, sometimes even,
you might have to tap them

back ever so slightly just
to get them nice and flat.

But let's give it a go and see what
happens. This method of paintless

dent removal differs from the hotbox
in that it's most effective on small

concentrated dings rather
than the cup soft dents. The glue

used in attaching these
pulling pins is temporary,

and when used properly it
will not damage the paint.

The kit comes with a
non-abrasive spray that

A*DS in removing the glue
from the paint surfaces.

Well that is
looking pretty good.

Now thanks to Mike
getting the bed off the back

of the truck, I can
now attend to this bit of

rust that's gone all the
way through. I need to

cut that cancer out
otherwise it could get a lot.

worse. I'm just going to use a
bit of masking tape as a guide.

so while I'm cutting
with a grinder it should be

just a little bit easier to
work out what's going on.

Then I cut a slightly
larger piece of metal than

required and form it to the
contours of the truck bed.

Well I now have a nice
corrugated bit of steel

and with any luck it
should fit like a glove.

Surprisingly this little
patch is the extent

of the rust found in
our lovable utility truck.

Introducing a bit of patchwork
really lends itself well.

to the look of a healthy, well-maintained
life that is trucky. A lick of

paint to blend our patch into the
existing patina and we can call this done.

Bodywork now sorted
and squared away, the

only thing left to work
on is a lovely ride.

All puns intended.

Edd, you alright son, how you doing?

I'm good sir, I'm good. I've got some really
exciting stuff for our little Chevy love

air adjustable shock absorbers
Bluetooth connectivity with a radio.

what are you off to? I've got to go and do

something but I'll be back in a bit.
What are you off to?

I'll be fine, won't be long.
Don't worry, it's alright.

But I do the going out stuff and you

fix the vehicles, where are you going?

Edd?

Seriously?

Right, I've got everything I'm going to
do I'm going to need for the air suspension

kit on our little Chevy love.

Now what I'm going to be using
are these, air adjustable shocks

they attach to the back of the
vehicle I've gone for the full flavour kit

of parts which means that you
get this little Gauge that goes

onto the dashboard of the
vehicle, rather smart it is too

and we're going to
hide in the vehicle

somewhere at this nice
tasty little compressor.

that way we can adjust the
suspension from within the cabin

and make sure this car sits on the
road just perfectly. Right that's enough

of the talking, now
time to start working.

The most difficult part being.

getting these gloves on.

Now this is the airline that's going
to run between the air adjustable

shocks and the cabin. I just
want to make sure that when I fit

it to the vehicle it's not near
the hot exhaust, not near any

sharp edges or it's not squished
between the chassis and the bed.

The next piece to fit is this little
item, it's called a Schrader valve.

It connects the outside
world of our little Chevy

love to the inside world
which is the crew cab.

Now the thing is, if I was to knock
a hole through the bodywork from

inside the cab I could be piercing
one of these brake lines or fuel lines

so I've had a look inside
and checked there's a

clear area and I'm going to
drill from underneath that way

to make sure that I don't Pierce anything.

Now I'm using this step drill bit

the hole I need to drill is five
sixteenths which is the second step.

Obviously you've got to wear
safety goggles when you're

drilling upwards in case
something falls in your eye.

and I reckon about there.

Perfect fit.

I now need to get this
hose into the back of

the Gauge. Now the
problem is it's very tight

and it won't fit and I reckon

the only way to get it on
is to show it a bit of heat.

Okay now everything
is connected up.

Let's hit the button and
see if we've got success.

Perfect, that's the noise I
was looking for. This will be

filling itself up with air. Those shock
absorbers should be working. I'm not

going to get to see that
for the moment because

while it's up in the
air I think I'm going to

tackle this dashboard. So
let's see how bad it really is.

Okay, it really is nasty. Now the
problem with this is you can't take it out

and a lot of manufacturers know that so
they supply these, which are dash pads.

Now I can put this dash pad

on here, it glues down and

it will do the job but as
you can see it won't fit

on here properly. That's because

there's lots of
broken high points.

So I'm afraid I'm going to
have to get dirty and start

locking these back a bit
before I can put the dash cap on.

Right,

I've got the two bars pushing
it against the dashboard.

It looks good already, what a difference.

I've just got two.

sandbags to place on
and a bit of weight to it.

All I need to do now is to let it dry,

let it cure and set and
it should be good to go.

Any aspiring hipster.

or potential customer for our little.

truck will want to have good quality
sound in it. The problem is at the moment.

what we've got in the truck
are these nasty door speakers

and we've got a terrible
head unit, it rattles, it cracks,

it groans. So what I thought I'd do is I'll
bring it up to date. I've got them found

a set of quality speakers
and head unit and a

good thing with this
one is it's got Bluetooth

connectivity so you can use
your mobile device and connect up

to it and listen to the music
that you really want to listen to.

Right, stereo in,
does she breathe?

Yep, the stereo works.

So I'm doing alright, aren't I?

This is my Wi-Fi
dongle. Basically this is

going to broadcast a Wi-Fi
network that people can jump onto.

I've already set it up as LoveNet so
people will be able to jump on board

with that with the password and come
and enjoy free Wi-Fi given by me. Simple

case of just plugging it in and sticking
it on. The Wi-Fi is powered through

a USB outlet which is
connected to the truck's

I've done the suspension,

fixed the bumper, knocked the dents
out. I've done the dashboard, the stereo,

the speakers. What's left to do?

Well I've got to put
the seats in, headliner,

door cards, the upholstery.

Now I know why
Ed looks like this.

We were looking for a little truck with
big character. Welcome to our Chevy love.

Okay. I found.

a well loved and very well used
example. The interior of this vehicle

needs a lot of work. But it was
mechanically pretty sound. I think

Mike was actually telling
the truth which was rather

good. I don't know why Ed never believes
me. Trust me Ed. Trust me. Trust me.

Come on. Trust me.
Don't worry about that. That'd be easy.

Trust me. I mean really trust me.
Anyway we stayed true to the idea of

smoothing out those rough edges
without losing any personality.

And helped our hard working love
with an introduction of an air suspension

system. $1500 or $350. Yeah I think
I'll go for the cheaper option. We were

always on a tight budget with our
love but how tight did we keep it?

Well Amber sold me the
truck for $1000. $180 took

care of the oil leaks including
the axle seals. $25 for a patch

weld. The air suspension set us
back $230. $700 for door panels,

seats, dash cap and headliner.

$420 in total for the
stereo and WiFi hotspots

and 31 man hours
in all. So we're.

$2555

in. Now we need
to just find a buyer.

With the love's facelift
complete it's only right to take

him out for a little spin and to
take myself out for a little coffee.

I love our little truck.
It doesn't matter where

I am I can swing over for a coffee
and jump onto the Internet thanks to the

little WiFi network that
I'm now broadcasting.

LoveNet. I can check in on
inquiries for our little love truck

because I've had an
advert out there running.

Looking through forums and postings
online there is a local brewery who are

looking for a truck.
They haven't said what kind of

truck they want but
they are looking for one.

So I might just swing by and show them

what I've got. They're a brewery.
I'm a brewer so why not? On the way

I can't pick up the tour man. You
never know we might put a deal together.

Ed thinks I'm picking him up to take
him for a drink which is sort of true.

Alright sir.

Well? Yes.

What do you think? Well

yeah I mean it's
actually quite nice in here

isn't it when you
first bought this thing.

It was a bit of a wreck inside here

and now it looks really great.
Thank you very much.

Did you do it all yourself?
What do you think I sent it

out to have somebody else do it?
Well the thought

kind of crossed my mind yeah.
No come on you know

I can do stuff and I did it
all myself I'm very proud.

Well you have done a really good job this.

dashboard cap looks
rather nice it's been

blended nicely into the
rest of the dashboard

you even had a go at the
cracks as well wasn't you?

I did yeah I had a go
at the repairs admittedly

it's not factory finished
but it's the best I

could do and I'm quite pleased with it.
Yeah it's pretty good

and also new stereo. New
stereo and it's Bluetooth so you

can connect it up to your
phone give it a hands free dial in.

Now talking of phones
I love the fact we've

got plenty of USB
charging points on the car.

Well you never have too many can you?
It's very

cool as well because once
you've charged up your

devices you can now jump onto
the Internet thanks to us broadcasting.

our very own Wi-Fi network. Love
that. That is very spanky. Love it.

And actually it's also very comfortable
this new bench seats rather nice

as is just the state of
the floor it's nice and

clean and tidy and of
course the headlining as well

well done. Yeah what I wanted to do is
keep the patina to some of the you know the

scratches the marks and
the damage on it I think

that's important because it's the history
of little trucky but I wanted to give

it a bit more of a
modern facelift so I think

we've pulled it off. Yeah
well actually it's a really hard

fine line between a nice kind
of old patina and a car that just

looked way too lifted.
Well done I think you've nailed it.

Thank you very much.

Haha a brewery.

Look at this. I do feel like I'm at home.

How you doing are you Matt? Yes I am.

Matt nice to meet you I'm Mike. Hey Mike.

How are you? And you sir? Hi Ed.

Matt. Another Matt.
We've got lots of lovely

shiny stainless steel
equipment over there.

Yeah that's our brewery
system you want to check it out?

Absolutely this is great.

Woah woah woah woah
woah woah you let him go

and have a look I just wanted
to show you this. I noticed

on the Internet you said you were
looking for a little delivery truck so

I thought I'd take the
opportunity while he has

a look round the brewery
of showing you this.

This is my 1980 Chevy Love.

Yeah it looks great looks great it's
kind of beat up I like that fits our image.

Yeah it may look beat up on top but
let me tell you underneath there is a

completely different truck it's got a
new engine new transmission the interior

is very nice it's the
perfect little delivery truck.

Is this the kind of thing
you could see fitting with

your business? I'm not sure it's big enough
for us I mean we're moving a lot of stuff.

It's going to handle anything.
What about you give me a challenge

I can take any beer you like
and deliver it for you today

take it round to your
local restaurant and bar.

Well I don't have any beer
to deliver today but I've got

some spent grain a lot of hungry cows
see what it can hold. Not a problem.

That's it.

That's great but it looks just a
little bit low at the back I'd say.

Where?

Look it's really low at the
back quite high at the front

I'm not sure that's ideal. Trust
me son I have so got this covered.

Nice job it's lovely
and level well done sir.

Yeah it looks good see air suspension
pump it up works a treat. It's perfect

best make a delivery.
Let's tie it down first.

Nah.

We've just added around twelve
hundred and fifty pounds of weight to load

this is a true test of both engine and
suspension. Do you know what I'm really

pleased even though it's loaded up in
the back the way it's riding the engine's

performing well the
gearbox is lovely you can

feel it it does feel
like a new little truck.

Mechanically this car was actually pretty
there but I've buttoned a few bits up

just by sorting out all those oil leaks
on top of the bed obviously that repair

did have to be done
just to preserve the

truck at the same
time obviously a little bit

of clever paint work
managed to make it look like

we haven't touched it at all. You know what
that's another first for Wheeler dealers

that was a new
old repair well done.

With our love fully loaded we're
off to tackle a hill or should I say

a mountain. Hopefully
this will seal the deal.

There's our turning.

now he said you go all the
way up this hill to the very top.

let's see how our little love fares.

it's going to be alright
I reckon you could give

this little truck any
challenge I'm not fearful

at all. And how does

she feel on the rough now?

Absolutely brilliant.

It's getting a little
steeper though.

Look at that. Maybe I'm getting

a little bit more worried.

When he said deliver some grain.

he didn't say it was going to be as tough
as this. Come on truckie you can do it.

Come on.

Here we go.

Come on.

Yes we're making it.

Well done.

Well done.

I mean come on then.

That's impressive.

Come on.

Through that gate
rather than down the hill.

And there's the cows.

That is fantastic. You've actually made it

all the way up this mountain.

We've got food for you.

It's dinner time everyone.

Our plucking 1.8
litre engine has taken.

cargo plus possibly.

a few hundred pounds of.

us to the top of a
pretty considerable hill.

I think we've pulled it off. Absolutely.
Job done and what a fantastic view.

Thank you.

You meant that
view. Not this view.

So do you reckon Matt might be up for it?

I wouldn't be surprised if he would buy it.

and it's a really good truck.

I'd be surprised if
anyone would want it.

Suspension's working. It's performing well.

Don't forget the love.

Don't forget the love.

Share the love.

Well I'm back in one piece.

I dropped Ed off and all those
barrels in the back they are empty.

And there's some very happy
cows at the top of that mountain.

That was a mountain. It was above
all the rest of the hills so therefore

by default it was a mountain.
So there was snow

up there. There was no snow up there.
No it was lovely.

Well anyway the truck got up.

there in one piece. It did
its job. It succeeded. I think

I can prove to you that this is perfect
for you this truck. It suits your business,

suits your image and I want you to succeed.

So I can't believe you wouldn't be
interested in it. It's such a good thing.

for you. I think I am interested in it.

You are? I knew you would be.

So go on then. sh**t me a number.

I won't be insulted.

$4,000. $4,000?

It's about £3,000. That's really
generous. That's a great offer.

Thank you very much. I'm not going to
take it though because this is a Chevy love

and you're a new business.
You're just starting out

so I want to give you
a little bit of love back.

I'm going to beat myself down.
I'm going to let you have it.

for $3,500. It's about.

£2,500. You just chucked me in a
couple of beers. One brewer to another.

What do you say? Deal.

Yes? You just bought
yourself a cracking Chevy love.

$1,000 worth of beer to
go please. Congratulations.

Both me and Ed have really
fallen in love with our little truck.

It's done a 360 for
us because I bought it

from a lovely lady in
a lovely environment.

It's given us a lot of love as it.

went through the workshop
and I've now sold it on

and given a bit of love
with it in a lovely place.

If you want to see more vehicles.

like this being turned
around by me and Ed,

then join us again soon
on Wheel of Dealers.

Salah!
