"Yu Yu Hakusho"

In a crowded city,
as I bump shoulders, I'm all alone.

On an endless prairie, as the
wind whistles by, I'm all alone.

Which one is it that makes
me want to cry more, I wonder.

Marking it with twin circles,
I feel a bit more grown-up!

It must be, that when I run
into these terribly difficult walls,

and unexpectedly, for whatever reason,

The courage and power to
break through rises up from within,

All because of how, when I run
into these terribly difficult people,

they show me kindness, I bet!

Thank you very much!

Having come to visit Mukuro,
Hiei has been fighting continuously

in an underground battle arena
for half a year.

As Hiei had gained power
that far exceeds A-Class Yokai,

Mukuro ordered him to fight
one of his 77 attendants,

the Demon Realm
Physiotherapist Shigure.

Shigure was the man who performed
the Jagan transplant surgery on Hiei!

"The Secrets of the Jagan Revealed"

The fee for services
that I accepted from him

was that even if he
did locate his sister,

he could not tell her
that he was her brother.

If you defeat me, I will return
to you your payment for services!

Like I told you before the operation,

I never intended to reveal
who I was in the first place.

The heart is a variable thing.

Well, that's enough reminiscing.

A fight is a fight.
You will stake your lives.

An earnest battle is the best,
regardless of one's capabilities.

At the moment when it is decided,

the journey taken by both sides
blossoms and scatters like fireworks.

Begin!

It's not to my advantage
to let this be drawn out.

There is a chance of me winning
if I use my flame Yoki...

In a fight just using swords,
the odds are 7 to 3 that Shigure wins...

Before, I fought to live,
and I would go to any lengths to win.

That's because I had a purpose...

But not now.

Now, it's only about how I die.

Rui, I know that you
and Hina are close.

However, there is no need for pity.

You must know how many of our sisterhood
have been k*lled by abominable children.

Still...

You need not pity him.

Don't!

Come back to us alive...

And when you do,
k*ll me first, would you?

That will be all I can do to
make this up to your mother.

I'm sorry.

I am the abominable child Hiei.

A cursed orphan,
born in the Land of Glaciers.

We had a good haul today!

Boss! Boss!

What is that filthy old rag!?

It's a baby. It was
floating down the river.

Stupid b*stard! What are you doing,
picking up something like that?

Well, about that...

Oh? What's this?

You brat! Let go, you!

Yow! You brat...!

I was named by a g*ng of thieves.

Hold up, Hiei!

Hand that over to us!

As a child, I enjoyed the
deep red slice of flesh,

just before it spouted blood,

and when I heard screams,
I would smile lightly.

It's not as though I don't understand
the sentiment of the glacier women

in abandoning me out of fear.

Knowing that my Hirui stone
keepsake was a supreme treasure,

I wore it around my neck in order
to show it off to the thieves.

Just by doing so, there wasn't any
shortage of blood, all day long.

As I spent many years
engaged in carnage,

I came to think that I wouldn't care
if I never found the Land of Glaciers.

Sometimes, I would think of it
as I stared at my Hirui stone.

That's the kind of place it became.

It's Hiei!

By the time I grew
tired of just k*lling,

even the thieves who had taken me in
had come to fear and avoid me.

The time I spent staring
at my stone increased.

And when I looked at the stone,
I realized that I felt calm.

I only settled down when I
had the stone in front of me.

I changed lands,
and my enemies changed as well.

There were some real
tough guys in there, too.

There were now two things
I was searching for.

The Land of Glaciers,
which had abandoned me,

and the Hirui stone I had lost.

I needed sharper eyes.

Are you the physiotherapist, Shigure?

I want you to perform
a Jagan operation.

Did you hear me!?

A kid like you could
not withstand the pain.

Give it up, and go home.

I'm prepared for it.

I have a condition as to whether
or not I accept your request.

And that is whether or not I
am drawn to the patient's life.

In other words, if you have
led a dull life up to now,

I will not do the operation.

You may tell me about it.

Hmph. It's not worth talking about.

It's so bad, it even makes me sick.

I endured the agony of
implanting the Jagan,

and had to lose the spectral power
that I had worked so hard to build up.

That's an odd sword.

It's a Rinka enreki-to,

made from the bones of the bison
that live in the Demon Realm.

Where are you going?

The operation is over, right?
I have no further business with you.

After the operation is performed,

you lose practically all
of your spectral power.

If you go into the woods like that,

you couldn't even put
a twist hold on a baby.

I don't need you to worry about me.

I'll teach you swordsmanship.

You'll what?

If my patients die on me right away,

their surgeries will
have been a waste, after all.

For some strange reason,
I did as he said.

Somehow, I didn't think it would
be so bad to stop off on my way,

and I decided to steal the
swordsmanship techniques he possessed.

To think that the time would come
when I would have it out with this man...

Is this my destiny?
This might be a nice place to die...

Well done.

A draw, huh?

He's turned his katana lengthwise?
Is he giving up his left arm?

I've won!

Well done.

A draw, huh? That's not
a bad way to die.

Hiei,

that was a magnificent fight.
Let me give you a reward.

Your Hirui stone.

The stone you've spent more
than half your life looking for.

To me, it is no more than a
tribute that was paid to me

by one of the lands I rule.

Take it.

Hmph. I don't need some stone that
reeks of your stomach acid any more.

Hiei, why did you choose
this way to die?

Why are you in a hurry to die?

Why?

One of the things I was searching for,
the Land of Glaciers,

I immediately located with clairvoyance,
one of the Jagan's powers.

The Land of Glaciers,
which gave me birth,

and then abandoned me...

The homeland I had not
been to in so many years,

and which I had no memories of...

The Ice Maidens all looked somewhat
miserable and apprehensive,

and I lost my desire to k*ll them.
I did not have to do a thing.

It was already as though
the town was dead.

Rui, I leave the rest up to you.

Right. Please watch yourself
and get some rest.

Okay then, take care.

Be careful.

Rui... the Ice Maiden that cast me
into the Demon Realm forest...

Do not panic. I do not
intend to do anything to you.

Rather, I have something
I want to ask you.

There, I found my mother Hina's grave.

Apparently, soon after she bore me,
she took her own life.

Hina-san had a daughter.
Her name is Yukina.

She was a lovely young girl.

However, she went off somewhere,
many years ago.

We don't know where she has been since.

Just a moment!

By any chance, are you the
one that I abandoned...?

Are you the one from back then...?

I did gain something.

My sister's name was Yukina,
and no one knew where she was.

In search of Yukina,
I went to the Human Realm.

There, I encountered a Yokai that
had taken human form-- Kurama.

I joined Kurama and company and stole
the treasures of the Spirit Realm.

That incident was how
I came to know a human

who was serving as
Spirit Realm Detective.

I changed slightly.

Inside Tarukane's mansion,
I found my sister, Yukina.

Naturally, she didn't know who I was.

I didn't say anything, either.

That was enough.

About the time I also grew tired
of fighting in the Human Realm,

there came messengers
from the Demon Realm.

If you meet anyone who
has something like this,

I'd like for you to give it to them.

It was not the Hirui stone
that I had been searching for.

However, as I looked into Yukina's face,

I figured that this Hirui
stone would do just as well.

My objective had disappeared.
There was no reason for me to live.

All that was left for me
to do was to fight,

and I started to think
about the way I would die.

Is that so, Hiei? Is that right?

Of all the consciousnesses
that I have touched,

yours is the most pleasant
one so far. Rest well.

Hirui stones...
what strange stones they are.

They seem like they have the power
to draw out all of one's hatred.

Thanks to those stones, I was saved.

From the time I was born,
I was a prisoner.

I, too, lost something in
order to pay for my freedom.

I became strong by
cursing those around me,

and there was a time when I k*lled
anyone that caught my attention.

Without that stone, my heart
would have filled with hatred,

and fighting would have been
my means of venting it.

As promised, this is who I,
Mukuro, really am.

Look at me. I can show you everything.

Live, Hiei! You are not yet strong
enough to seek the manner of your death.

Live, and this time,
touch my consciousness.

Henceforth, Hiei became
Mukuro's highest-ranked warrior.

What awaited Kurama, who went to the
Demon Realm at the invitation of Yomi,

a friend from the past,

was not a warm reception,
but cold, hate-filled maneuvering.

After the passage
of a thousand years,

the two men's ambitions and ties
had become intricately entwined.

Next time:
"Demon Realm Thieves--
A Thousand-Year Reunion"

When my letter reaches you,
don't break the seal,

just leave it alone,
and after some time has passed,

I'm sure you will
understand how I feel now.

This is my first, and last, request.

As gently as we could,
it wasn't very hard,

with one purpose,
we foolishly embraced.

As twilight closes in,
I sh**t an arrow of courage

from a distant window,
toward your back, as you leave.

Although it still has not
stopped raining outside,

the drenched people and the city
still believe in the sun.

An old melody, and a blurred silhouette.

Living the easy life doesn't
make for a very good picture.
