to the trailer we had

those two fake tanks

So I wanna make sure that
there's proper amenities
in there.

but really, I'm gonna have

So one of the changes
that we're gonna do

on this truck
is new headlights.

We like
the nine inch headlights,

They look big,
they're for a big truck.

We don't really want a billet,
run of the mill mount,

so we're gonna make our own.

Eric's help
on these headlights.

I'm gonna step up
as lead designer.

I'm gonna give Eric a drawing
just like Dave would.

I'm actually sketching up
the headlights today

for the Peterbilt
that we're putting together

I don't think
Dave's ever drawn a truck.

So I'm gonna have to probably

where I come up
with all this talent.

And I just wanna capture

the true vintage feel
of a 1993 Peterbilt
headlight, but better.

It's gonna be a custom mount

It's probably gonna look
better than anything
on the whole truck,

since I'm doing
design drawings right now.

I don't say it anymore
'cause he's taking it over.

Not only am I
a creative artist
as far as designs go,

but I also come up with
slogans on the side.

So I have four versions
of a headlight design.

I'm gonna get with Eric.

I'm gonna collaborate with him
for this clean classic custom
headlight that I've done.

and I've taken 10 seconds,

I have not worked on
a Peterbilt or any 18 wheeler
in my life,

so this is my first part.

It's kinda cool
sh**ting from the hip.

[Kevin] There's really
no room for error here.

I've made an amazing drawing
Eric just has to execute it

I don't think
he's gonna have
any problem doing it.

So this is will be
essentially the cup

that the headlight lands in,
and it's the adjustment.

I'll weld it in here
and then we'll build
the arm up in there.

[Eric] Weld this washer on.

So when this is all weld in
then that will have somethin
to land on.

I've got my template
made with tape.

I'm gonna transfer it
to metal, and get it cut out

We'll go cut it on
the bandsaw now.

I've got one side done.
I'm gonna mirror it
and make the other side.

We're just trying
to match the angles,

get these things
flowing the right way.

It's going
pretty smooth so far,
so we'll keep rolling with it.

[Eric] Uh, Kevin's' drawing
wasn't very helpful.

I mean,
I had the basic measurements

but it was like, you know,
I still haven't seen
the project.

So, I don't know.
Did it fit? Who knows.

[Eric] Yeah,
getting there slowly.

Real precise on this one.

These are gonna be the most
bitchin' headlight mounts
you've ever seen.

Basically, down just
to the bottom piece here.

and then weld it up
and smooth it out.

[Eric] The welding is not
the difficult part,

it's keeping everything, uh
in the same orientation.

And, you know,
when you weld on this thing
it's gonna twist and turn.

You gotta try to outguess
all of that.

So we got most of it
torn down.

the gas caps from you.

We are basically
moving the gas tanks
forward on this build

because I think that
the tank's more even
with the back of the sleeper.

It would look cleaner.

We got these caps,
and I wanna get these caps

-placed and marked
on here, on the tank.

So when you guys drop 'em,

-we'll just cut 'em in
and weld 'em.

Yeah, and this
pan will be right for the weld
so it will be nice...

we have a toolbox come out.

This truck had a PTO on it,

and the one tank
on the driver's side

was actually the oil holder
for the PTO,

the other side
was just a fake.

So we're gonna
get rid of the small tanks,
and we're gonna push the tan

all the way up,
as close to the stacks
as we can,

and we're gonna relocate
the filler.

Okay, sweet.
So I am super pumped.

I'm so excited.
This is a really cool project.

I wish that
we had the equipment

and tools to do this
at the shop, but...

So I am kinda envious
of the situation,

but I'm glad
to help you out with
anything you need.

on these tanks.

new fillers in 'em,

We had a Harley Davidson tank,

and it had a dent.
So we were gonna weld
the thing, and pull it.

Great! Now the guys
have to take a break
for story time.

the thing with water.

There's Tidwell...

Boom! It went
right past his head.

It hit the...
it hit the ceiling.

It expanded about double
it's overall size,

and it came back down,
and almost hit him
and took him out.

Wow! So we'll try
to avoid that.

Diesel's not gonna blow up,

So this isn't the color

I've been growing this

I'm trying to keep it.

water in there, and try
to get all the fumes out,

and all the nastiness,
and just make sure
it doesn't blow up on me.

They always give me
the [bleep] jobs.

Shouldn't blow up
'cause it's diesel,

but you never know.
I've heard stories.

everything's looking
a lot cleaner.

Trying to get it
nice and clean.

You can see that
it's been polished,
and all that

polishing compound
will get down
in the pores of the aluminum,

and then weld like garbage.

So gotta get this thing
pretty immaculate.

We're gonna pull the engine
out of this thing

and freshen it all up.

We build
a lot of high end show cars.

But I'm so pumped that
we get to finally,
kind of put together,

kind of a custom
large car-ish vehicle.

I mean,
this like a dream come true,

and I'm so glad
you guys are around
to help us out.

I really like these
large cars...

in my family
you were either
in the military,

or you were a truck driver,
or you were both.

So truck--
Trucking is a huge part
of me growing up.

It's always something
I looked up to.

My dad was a truck driver.
My grandpa was a truck drive

Uh, it's just a part of me.

It's awesome.

I really am into
this style of truck,
because it's customized a lot.

It's kind of
the-run-of-the-mill
of custom trucks,

but it's really,
really, really cool.

[Kevin] This thing's
super cool.

This stuff really excites me

We work on some
crazy, cool hot rods, but...

Look at this. I mean,
the pistons are, like,
this big inside that engine.

There is only six.
Look at the size
of that thing.

And then
it's all stripped down
with everything off around it,

and It's so simple.
It's so simple.

So in addition
to not only checking
this whole engine over,

and making sure everything's
mechanically sound,
we're gonna paint it.

In order to do all this work

we're gonna have
to get the engine
out of the engine bay.

We're, uh,
pulling the engine in trans,
it's an assembly,

and so we use a floor jack
from the front end.

It's gonna be back heavy
if we just leave it
on the hoist alone.

Okay. Go up a little bit.

We're hitting this.
We're gonna start hitting
the front cross from there.

A little bit more.

We'll throw a come-along
from here up to the crane,

and then
we can pull it out level.

It's hanging on up there,
looks like.

Oh, yeah.
We're not even
on the jack anymore.

She's out
and we'll get it
set in the cradle.

And then
we'll fit along
a pan rail here,

separate the transmission
from the engine

and check the clutch out.

Next thing we'll do is
we'll split the engine
transmission apart,

inspect the clutch,
inspect the flywheel.

Now with the engine out,

the guys are gonna get
everything prepped
and ready for paint

Their body crew is gonna paint
the engine.

So we'll, uh,
get on the stand,
fasten down a little better,

and give it over to them
and let them
take it from here.

[Kevin] We're here
at Peterbilt,

getting the rig repainted
after a little bit of
mechanical work.

So this truck is gonna go
black and white.

We're gonna put
a warp-on for the rest.

But for right now,
the bottom has to go white,
the top has to go black.

Process wise
this is exactly what
we would do at the shop,

but is quadruple the size.
It's a huge job.

Now that the truck is painte
the wrap is going on.

I am super pumped.

That's the biggest
trick, right?

Trying to match it up
to the trailer we've had
four years ago.

these trucks are put togethe
with a thing called a Huck.

It's basically
an aluminum cold rivet,

and on the wrap,
they have to go
around all these things.

It's not an easy job.

Now these require
a lot of heat,

and, uh, patience, I guess.

The material will grow


you could stretch it that far.

[man] You shouldn't,
but you can.

[Kevin] Once the guys finis
up with the wrap,

we're gonna get the truck
back to our shop.

We're gonna do
all new upholstery,

and we're gonna do some
bitchin' lightings.

But obviously
you gotta have your tow rig

looking as fresh
as all the cars you build.

With all of
the mechanical stuff done,

now it's time for the inside
to get a makeover.

There's really only one
man for the job,
and it's Tazz.

I want certain areas
where I want it

to be a little thicker
than other areas.

So it's a starry night,

-kinda like
the Milky Way Galaxy.

every one of these holes.

the suede down.

Then we're gonna punch
every one of them holes again.

-And poke these through.

at least three inches.

I love stars
and I cannot wait until, like

after a long day
of driving somewhere,
maybe I'm at a show.

and I look up,
and I could just ponder
in the universe.

The first thing I'm gonna do
is get my area drawn out

where I'm gonna be
putting all the stars,
uh, just on the backside,

so I don't have it...

I'm gonna be drilling
through the backside here,

so I wanna be able to mark off

where all my LED
fiber optic strips
are going in.

So I'm gonna do that
from here.

Tazz loves
thinking about stars,
and asteroids, and worlds.

You know,
he's a lot smarter
than he looks.

Is that a compliment?

I have spent a lot of time
staring at the night skies.

Tazz has a huge appreciation
for the cosmos,

so there's no better man
for the job.

If you look up at the stars,
there's not any
straight lines in there.

It's just a matter of...

stars are clustered
in some spots,
thinking of gravity.

'Cause all things in life
follow a certain shape, right?

You look at
the things in nature,

everything kind of follows
a certain radius.

So I have a cluster of
big stars here, maybe.

[Kevin] When Tazz looks at m
I see a mystical cosmos man

Tazz has these
mystical locks of hair

that only came
from the cosmos.

It's no more different
that like, um, dark shading,

These are more
congested in some areas
and then you get lighter out.

So that's really all that
I'm trying to copy here,

'cause I know I have
at least 100 of those
fiber-optic cables.

So that's a good place
to start, right?

Before we started anything,
we need to know exactly
how many fiber-optics we have.

Six, seven,

eight, nine, 10

There's at least 50 in there.

We need to punch
a hole for every fiber-optic.

I'm at 67 times five.

It's very important
we get the right count.

We don't think
it's that much,
but it just keeps going.

Just a bad time
to tell you guys

I failed math
in elementary school.

Well, yeah. This isn't
the fun part of this job.

[Tazz] I don't know how
to count. [laughs]

If he can't count
at least to 2000,

he's not the right guy
to build this galaxy.

And in one of these strips
I had 540 single, individual,
uh, fiber optic hairs.

That times
four of my big strips,

we have 2160.

We got the number figured out.

It's time to punch
over 2000 holes, not one more.

Since we figured out how many

fiber optic cables we have,

I gotta now puncture
every single one of these
holes that I just marked out

in my star
constellation pattern.

Yeah, adds a little more time
with the numbers,

but It's better
to be safe than sorry,

to be, like, "Okay,
I counting my way through it."

I could just poke holes
randomly, but, you know,

there's a level of...

You don't want
your name to just
be on some crappy, like...

looks like a five year old
went through and punched holes
randomly in it.

[Justin] Holes are all
punched to mark.

Now we need to figure out
how to install these.

We've never done this before.

[Tazz] I've got my holes
poked for the lights.

I've got about 20 of my lights
pulled through,

to, I wanna say,
a good solid couple of inches.

And I'm gonna go through
and start gluing
each of 'em down.

Trying to be careful.

We're gonna try this
accelerated super glue

that we use on
a lot of different projects.

If this doesn't work,
we're gonna try
a different option.

I just broke
my fiber-optic cable

with just the slightest
amount of a bend.

This isn't gonna work.
They're snapping
left and right.

I'm gonna have to figure
something out about that,

'cause you can't set these
on a direct 90, they'll snap.

And with that being glued
in place like that,
the headliner goes in.

They have
a good amount of space
to move around,

but not that much.

So now it's time
to figure out
how to lay 'em down

and get 'em in place
without breaking them
like that. Just that.

They don't like
to bend at all.

This is gonna be difficult.

I'm gonna go through
and start gluing
each one of 'em down.

Trying to be careful.

We're gonna make this
headliner look like
a starry night,

and to do this
we're gonna use fiber-optics.

These things are bending
just fine with no glue,

but once we put the glue,
they're breaking like crazy.

We're gonna have to
figure something out
about that.

They are very [bleep] fragile.

That's rough.

Very fragile.

[Justin] So we did
a little research on this,

and the glue that we used
was too hard and brittle,
so it kept breaking 'em.

So we ended up having
to silicone this.

Everything's in its place
where it's supposed to be.

It's all pulled through.

But they'll fold
at a 90 right now

and still show
the light through.

So right now
I'm about to test to see

if this silicone
will hold down
this fiber-optic wire

without snapping the wire
like the super glue did.

Looks like
the silicone's all done.

The silicone's better
because it dried,

but it was nice and soft,
so it had some flex.

are separated in chunks now

some fabric over there
to keep them safe.

remove all the panels,

old plastic dash,

I'm gonna have Justin
wrap it in leather

with some baseball stitching
just like the seats.

I think it's gonna tie
everything together perfect.

-All the vents
should snap in.

One, two, three panel.
So you just gotta
get into here.

The AC controls mount
from the backside.

These two pieces
mount from the front.

-So you can use
all these holes.
-Okay.

I am kinda shocked that
Kevin's taking a lead
on this design project

because he can't even draw
a stick figure.

This is gonna be pretty
straight forward though,

just a bunch of seams
you're gonna have to put on.

Yeah. There's gonna be
quite a few seams.

-We'll do a French seam
across here, like this.

were doing do with this,

we're gonna go
all black leather, but

But this is gonna
be very difficult, because
there are a ton on obstacles.

Gluing this leather
to the plastic...

it's gonna be
a lot more difficult
than it is to metal

because sometimes
this plastic will gas off.

This plastic gassing off...
Sometimes the contacts meant
will not work.

Steam a few thing out.

Couple of these
pockets are pretty difficult.

But they're looking
pretty good.

I think this is turning out
really-really nice.

So obviously, we cleaned

a lot of the stuff
off of this truck.

Uh, the clearance lights...
the old clearance lights.

This truck used to have
air horns on the top.

As you can see,
it no longer does.

So we're gonna install
a set of these train horns

which are probably
gonna be a little bit louder.

[horn honks]

So a lot louder.

It's not a huge deal,
it's not a huge deal
to install,

the only thing we have to do
is obviously, in most trucks,
to activate the air horn.

This right here is the valve.
Right here.

So there's a feed line
that comes up the pillar,

and then it just feeds
the two horns.

So I need
to redirect the air lines

down this A pillar
out in the bottom of the cap,

so I can hook to this.

I found a little, like,
pocket right here.
We're gonna put 'em.

I'm making
a quick simple bracket.

We'll drill some holes
in this one, insert it.

We'll bolt it all together.
It'll look money.

put it up there,
I'm gonna cut it.

two to three holes
across the top,

we're gonna Nutsert
that bracket,

and it's gonna be mounted.

so I can shape it

of what Will and Greg do.

to plan things out.

I just grab a piece of metal,

lazy of a design
and get mad at me.

We have everything we need
to install this horn.

All the brackets are painted
everything's good to go.

This thing's gonna be so loud,

when I honk, it's gonna blow
little kids ear drums out.

This is 100% leather.

So nothing
but the best for Kev dog.

are getting worked on now,

this is
a crucial part of the build

This a*s is gonna be
in those seats
for a lot of hours

so it needs to be perfect.

Okay. So what we got here is
Nestor's installing the covers
he's sewn up on Kindig.

I think it's big rig.

We're doing all black leather,

with an off colored,
obviously, white stitching.

Yeah. We gotta make Kevin
very comfortable here,

So if he's not, he can come
talk to this guy, not me,

'cause I didn't do 'em.

They are really comfortable.
They're on air ride.

They got lumbar support
in the back.

We actually added
a half-inch scrim
that they never had.

It was just
sewn into cheap vinyl.

and ready to go in.

Now, it's up to the judge
to decide

if this is what he wants.

a new designer and the crew

They're nine inch
which makes them
quite a bit different.

We did a longer bumper,
it's a tilt bumper.

Just in case you get
into some curves or somethin
you can tip it up.

We took the tanks
and we slid 'em
all the way forward.

it really helped out

given the length
to the chassis.

You want it to kinda give that
large car look,

and being able
to mount the trailer
further back

which gives the space,
which makes it cool.

I've always wanted build
a large car,

and finally we get to do one.

And by the way, the wheels...

really look great on this.

these also with the trailer

It's nice that
they kept the detail to it.

that was really important.

Even just
the real quick polish
job on the brass...

a little bit of micro suede

and it is so cool at night.

The interior of this thing
looks really smooth.

All of that black leather,

all of the wood surfaces
have been painted gloss blac

The carpet looks beautiful.

Of course, the headliner...

I'm under the stars
in the desert somewhere.

somewhere in high desert.

You know,
it's just really really cool.

I'm normally a huge fan
on wood grain,

but that wood grain
was like, 70's
paneling in a basement.

It's like a green fridge

It was the wrong kind
completely,

so we had to ditch it.

this is a big deal.
