13x20 - Sea of Love

Post by bunniefuu »

[narrator] Previously on Knots Landing...

[Paige] Stop poking me with that thing.

Ow, that hurt.

-Ow? -Ow?

[laughs]

That hurt.

That glint in your eye made me nostalgic.

It's one of those things that made me fall in love with you.

Anne...

[Gary] You said you were going to hold off on the book.

You said you were just going to make a few phone calls.

What kind of a phone call got you to a deserted parking lot?

It was a woman who said she had some exclusive information,

something I know that I would have needed for the book.

A woman you know nothing about.

Val, you could have got yourself k*lled.

[Paige laughs]

Oooh.

Now for this part, I would normally get down

on my knees, but I'm afraid I'd drown here if I did that.

So I'm just going to tell you straight out,

there's no [indistinct]

-I... -[man] Sorry about that.

Nurse McGee says X-ray wants you.

X-ray's right next door.

Officer.

Officer.

[screams] Ow! Pierce.

I love you, Paige. I'm not gonna do anything to hurt you.

What are you doing?

[indistinct chatter]

[sirens blaring]

[reporters yelling]

When's the last time you saw Paige?

Is she still paralyzed?

You're gonna stick with that story.

Hey, man, it's not a story. It's the truth.

Let's hear it again.

Is this the guy who was with Paige?

What the hell happened down there?

I told the cops everything.

Good. Well, tell me.

[sighs] I picked up the patient,

wheeled her down to X-ray, with a cop,

left her outside of X-ray with the cop

while I went in to see if they were ready for her.

How long were you gone?

Couple minutes, maybe less.

When I came out, the patient was gone.

The cop was unconscious on the floor.

just like I told the detective.

Why pick on me? Go ask the cop. He saw her last.

What the hell were you doing in the basement anyways?

The X-ray lab isn't there.

That's where the orderly took her.

And you just went along. Weren't you suspicious?

There's an auxiliary lab in the basement.

I don't care what's in the basement.

Your man let some goon drag my daughter

on a wheelchair and disappear.

Look, Mr. MacKenzie.

You're going to have to let me do my job here.

Yeah, sure.

Meanwhile, my daughter's God knows where,

dragged out from under your nose by some maniac.

[theme music]

[reporters yelling]

[man] Can you tell us about it?

When is the last time you saw Paige?

Come on, you know better than we do. We can't tell you.

Let's get home and figure out what to do.

[boat sirens blaring]

[groans]

Hi.

Pierce.

It's okay, Paige. There's nothing to be afraid of.

I had to get you out of there.

So I could see how you were.

And to tell you how sorry I am

about what happened.

-Sorry. -I never meant to hurt you.

You tried to k*ll Greg.

It was the only way for us to be free of him.

Pierce.

Pierce, I don't know what's wrong with you,

but you've got to get help.

It's okay.

We're safe here.

But I love you for being concerned.

And that's why I had to make sure you understand

about the accident and that you forgive me.

-You've got to let me go. -No, never.

I want us to go back to the way things were.

Please, say you forgive me.

Where are we?

The Marina.

I charted this boat.

It's just like the one Margaret...

[suspenseful music]

You do forgive me, don't you?

Say it.

Paige.

Say you forgive me.

Yes.

Of course I forgive you.

[sighs]

[tense music]

[Karen] "So with her kiss, the maiden turned

"the beast back into the handsome Prince he was

"before the old woman cast the spell.

"They fell in love and they were married.

And they lived happily ever after."

-You speeded it up-- -You go to bed.

-unh-unh. Not yet. -Come on, come on, get going.

[doorbell rings]

[Karen] I'll be right up.

-Mr. MacKenzie? -Out.

-Tim Jones, National Bulletin. -Out!

Listen, I've been authorized to give you $500 a day--

How did you get through the police line?

-Officer. -Okay. Okay.

[reporters yelling]

Damn.

[phone rings]

[reporter] Mr. MacKenzie, give us a statement.

-[Karen] I'm so sorry. -[Mack] Yeah.

Look, I persuaded Anne to stay with us tonight.

Oh.

I don't want to impose.

I thought it'd be best if Anne wasn't alone, you know,.

It's not an imposition at all. Please, come in. Sit down.

-Have you heard anything? -No.

I'm going to the station now to raise some help.

Maybe you should say goodnight to Meg before you go, okay?

You take care of it.

[Meg] Mommy! I'm done brushing my teeth.

I'm just gonna go tuck her in.

And then I'll come down and we'll have some coffee.

[Meg] Mommy!

What is all this stuff?

you got enough equipment here to launch a shuttle.

-Is this going to pay off? -You got to give us time.

I don't want to hear that. We don't have time.

Who are all these people? What are they doing here?

Most of them are ex government agents,

FBI, Treasury.

Sabatini over there is an expert in computers.

She can access national files from the airlines, car rentals,

crime labs, forensics...

We are making queries for tracking leads.

Just find her.

Can I get you a sandwich and coffee?

No.

If there's anything I can do in the investigation, I...

Yeah. Keep the coffee hot and sharpen some pencils.

Sure.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that Mister Burton

was waiting for you.

Okay, keep the pencils sharpened.

[elevator dings]

Oh, Mr. Burton, how nice to see you again.

Mrs. Whittaker.

You must have had a very late meeting with my brother.

I was supposed to have a late meeting with your brother.

This is the third time I've been stood up.

Oh, I can see you're very angry.

Angry? That's an understatement.

I'm fed up with the Sumner group.

Look, I realize you're having a crisis

with Miss Matheson being missing,

and I'm sorry about that, but I'm not used

to being kept waiting and frankly,

dealing with people who are involved

in such bizarre and unorthodox behaviors.

You are absolutely right.

I don't blame you at all.

Attempted assassinations and kidnappings.

Well, it must be enormously upsetting to you.

I'm gonna be more comfortable

taking my company somewhere else.

I just don't think the Sumner Group

is right for Burton Biotechnology.

Mr. Burton...

It's Theodore, isn't it?

Well, yes, it's Theodore, but...

Ted.

Ted.

May I ask a very big favor of you?

What? Well...

Hmm?

I suppose so.

Would you just give me a moment with my brother?

I know I can straighten this whole thing out.

Please, just would you do that for me?

[sighs] Alright.

I really appreciate it.

[Greg] I don't want to hear that you don't know.

I want to hear that you know something

and I want to know it soon.

The police still haven't found a clue.

I think I've got something on the orderly.

-Gregory. -No.

What's this about the orderly?

We've turned up some interesting background on--

-I'm sorry. -Not now.

I know what you're going through and I am terribly sorry,

but you have got to see Burton and reassure him about the deal.

I don't have to reassure him about anything.

He's gonna walk out of here and take his company with him.

In this depression? Good luck.

We've got a business to run.

If you're so worried about Burton,

you go and handle Burton.

Don't do anything I wouldn't do.

Come on, Paige. What's the matter?

You're not eating. You don't like it?

It's chunky chicken.

-It's delicious. -Good.

[thumping]

-What's that thumping sound? -Hm?

Don't you hear it?

[thumping]

Yeah, it's probably just one of the lines that got loose.

I better go check it.

[Pierce whistling]

[sighs]

[boat sirens blaring]

[suspenseful music]

[tense music]

Oh, my God.

[Pierce] Paige!

Shh. Where are you going?

Oh, I... I needed some air.

[scoffs] You're not well enough yet.

You gotta let me take care of you.

Oh, you silly.

I'm never going to leave you.

Never.

[chuckles]

[Pierce] Oh, I hope this doesn't hurt.

You must have scraped it on the deck last night.

Why are you doing this?

I am going to make you whole again.

You know, I know a place.

It's a couple days sail from here.

It's so beautiful, there's nothing but wild goats and...

some buffalo the movie people left there in the '30s.

There you go, all better.

Nobody lives there anymore.

You can't get away with this, Pierce.

-You can't just pretend... -I'm not pretending.

I know there are things that can never happen between us now.

All because of what I did.

I know that and it's breaking my heart.

And I know the only way for me to prove my love to you

is for me to leave your life.

When?

Soon.

I will leave.

But I have to make you well first.

I just...

I want one clean moment with you.

Just one moment.

Without poison.

Okay?

Okay.

Now, I got to go out and get some more supplies.

But you got to promise me.

You're not going to try anything crazy while I'm gone.

Of course I won't.

I want so much to believe you.

You know that.

[door closes]

[suspenseful music]

Listen, mister.

I'm sorry about what happened to the lady,

but I told the cops everything.

You didn't tell them about the shift change.

[indistinct radio chatter]

I don't know what you're talking about.

You don't remember changing shifts with... Victor Rush?

You weren't even supposed to be working here yesterday.

I wanted next Sunday off, so we switched shifts.

What's the big deal?

[suspenseful music]

Nice family.

Too bad that they're there and you're here.

How do you know about all that?

I understand it's very expensive

to fly two people here from Manila.

Yeah, it is.

How much did Pierce pay you to play hide and seek

outside the X-ray room?

Nobody paid me nothing.

Ramon, be straight with me and I'll have your wife

and your kid on a plane in an hour.

You'll tell the cops, that's what you'll do.

I don't have to tell the cops anything.

All I need is for you to cooperate,

and I'm beginning to get impatient.

[sighs]

He promised he wouldn't hurt her.

Ramon, for two plane tickets from Manila,

you got to give me something concrete,

something that I can run with.

[sighs]

There is one thing I didn't tell the cops.

-He took my van. -Your van?

He was supposed to be alone, gave me 200 bucks for it.

He said he'd leave it by the park near my house

and when I went there last night, no van.

What's the license number?

Please, Hugh, you don't have to apologize to me.

Just...

Give me a couple days to think about it and then...

You and I'll go back and we'll discuss it

with him, okay?

Okay, good. Bye bye.

That's your editor?

[sighs]

Yeah.

Everything alright?

Nope.

Not really.

Wanna tell me about it?

Well, they heard about Paige being kidnapped,

and naturally, they think it's quite a story.

Yeah, well, what's that got to do with anything?

Has to do with publicity, Gary.

The kind they say that money can't buy.

Ah, for the book you're doing on Sumner?

Yeah, exactly.

They want to triple the size of the printing.

They want to move up the publication date.

They want...

How did Hugh put it?

The juice, Gary. They want the juice.

Yeah. The sleaze. The exploitation.

Yeah, exactly. The publicity department

has been salivating for the last two days

at the idea of getting all the Sumner secrets,

down and dirty.

Well, I told you this kind of thing might happen.

Yes, Gary, you did.

But this is still my book and it's got my name on it.

Now, I told Hugh what I thought and I said

I would talk to them again in a couple of days

and that is exactly what I am going to do!

Hey!

[Paige] Hey! Help me!

Please, help me!

[indistinct chatter]

[Mack] Stay away from me, please.

-Are you alright? -Yeah.

I'd be a lot better if it wasn't for that mob.

Every time I look out there, there's more of them.

I just chased two from the garage.

I don't know what to do anymore.

-How you holding up? -[Anne] Fine.

The police come up with anything yet?

No, nothing.

They're talking to some people, but that's it.

How do you wheel a woman into a garage

and she just vanishes?

God knows what this guy is doing to her.

You know, I feel helpless.

Just so helpless, if I only had one weapon.

Anything.

-You do, Mack. -What do you mean?

Well, I mean, they're all out there

clamoring for a statement.

Maybe we ought to give them one.

Live, the mother and father pleading with the abductor.

Anne, that's all that maniac needs, to see me on television,

wringing my hands. I'm not going to beg.

I've begged before.

And for Paige, I'd beg again.

[Anne] We've got to do this, Mack.

Even if it's just a chance in a million,

what else have we got?

I don't know. I don't know.

Does this kind of thing ever work?

All we need is one person who saw them

leaving the hospital.

One lead. Please, Mack.

I haven't asked you for anything in a long time.

Please.

What do you think, Karen?

I think you should go for it.

[suspenseful music]

Hey, get out. Beat it. Don't play in the dock.

I'm back.

I bought you something.

A present. Go ahead, open it.

It's your favorite, remember?

-No, I don't-- -Sure you do.

No, I don't remember!

It's alright.

It's alright. It's okay.

It's okay. It's okay. There's no harm done.

Honey, you want to be careful, you know?

You don't wanna hurt yourself.

It's not as though we just have the two of us

to think of anymore.

What are you talking about?

[tense music]

I got you some pills for your motion sickness.

You should... you should take a couple of them.

We'll be leaving in about an hour.

I don't get motion sick.

It should be a nice evening for a sail.

Remember the last time we sailed?

It was night.

It was so beautiful, the moon rocking on the waves...

I remember you said it was as if the moon had shattered

into 1000 silver pieces.

I've never been sailing before.

You're not afraid, are you?

No.

Good.

You know, it's funny, isn't it?

I mean, being afraid of the water...

Because we're not born that way, somebody told me...

that in Russia they throw the babies into the pools

at three months and they just...

swim all around.

No fear, at all.

And this baby won't be afraid of the water either, will it?

What baby?

What baby?

What are you talking about?

Our baby, Margaret.

Our baby.

[tense music]

[indistinct chatter]

[man] More drivers.

Vanessa.

Well, you do show up in the oddest places, don't you?

Well, what about you?

This isn't your usual stomping ground.

I was just checking up on Anne, she's staying here

with the Mackenzie's.

Yeah, it's terrible, isn't it? This... this whole thing.

Yeah, Anne's a nervous wreck.

Anyway, what are you doing here?

I'm a neighbor. I live next door.

-At Claudia's house. -You live there?

Yeah. You see, my aunt, she took care of Claudia's mo--

You don't have to explain to me, Alex.

What, would you like to see?

It sounds fascinating.

[instrumental music]

[Alex] And last, but not least.

Claudia's bedroom.

Claudia's bedroom.

If only this bed could talk.

So tell me, Alex, are you doing it with her?

-Doing it? No, I'm not-- -Oh, you are!

How wicked.

Is she all knowing in bed, Alex?

Is she wonderful?

It's you I care about.

Show me what she taught you, Alex.

Right here in our classroom.

What if she comes home?

So? I'm the one you care about, you just said so.

[Anne] Her name is Paige Matheson.

If you have any information about Paige,

please, contact the police.

And Pierce, please, let her go.

She's very ill.

There's nothing served by keeping her from us.

If you have any...

sense of decency...

Look, we need everyone's help out there.

If you saw anything unusual connected to our daughter Paige

or the kidnapper, please call.

[reporter] Thank you, Mr. MacKenzie.

Miss Matheson.

A tragic story, but one we hope will have a happy ending.

Back to you, Wendy.

[suspenseful music]

Pierce.

I think we should go home.

You having second thoughts?

No, no, I... I just think we should think of the baby.

We should do what's best for the baby.

We are what's best for the baby.

I know it's scary running away like this, but...

I'll take care of you, I promise.

Both of you. Now, here you're going to put this on.

It's going to get cold out in the bay.

Oh, wait, wait, wait.

Maybe you should just go tomorrow.

We can't.

Your parents could be looking for us even now.

We can't risk them finding us.

[sighs]

I swear I can feel it kicking.

[suspenseful music]

Pierce, no, please.

Margaret, it's gonna be alright, I promise.

No!

[cries]

[phone rings]

Hello?

[woman] Her name is Margaret MacKenzie.

She was born to Laura and Greg Sumner.

But she was given to Karen and Mack MacKenzie

after Laura died.

The Mackenzies raised her as their own.

I mean, she doesn't even know who her real parents are.

Her real parents are Karen and Mack MacKenzie.

And Meg is none of your damn business.

Maybe not. She certainly is your business,

If you intend to write a Sumner biography.

There is nothing that you can say

that is going to be worth my time or my money.

Are you sure about that, Mrs. Ewing?

[tense music]

Alright, go ahead. Tell me what you know.

[laughs]

I told you there was a price attached to this.

I'll tell you what.

Meet me on top of the hill in the park

across the street from Polo Rd. in one hour.

Alright, I'll be there.

-And Mrs. Ewing? -Yes?

Don't forget to bring the money, $2500 in cash.

I don't take checks.

As for the van, I'm still waiting to hear

from my guys in the field.

Last report, no trace of it.

Gregory, tell me you've got something. Anything.

I got nothing.

Cops are sitting around twiddling their thumbs,

if anybody knows anything, it's you. Come on.

I'm flattered, but I know exactly what you know,

which is absolutely nothing.

Myers found the van. It's at the Marina.

Tell Myers to sit on it. We'll be right there.

-Van? What van? -Pierce's van.

The one he stole from the orderly at the hospital.

The orderly?

He stole a van from the orderly and you didn't tell the cops?

They just sit around and twiddle their thumbs.

When were you going to tell me? Six years from now?

What difference does it make? You know now.

Me, I'm the difference.

I'm going with you.

No, no, no, no, no. That's 85.

Okay. Good.

-Thank you. -Thank you very much.

And I want to thank you for lunch today.

Lunch, well, that was the least I could do to make amends.

You don't have to make amends.

It's your brother.

My brother and I work very closely.

His mistakes are my mistakes and...

Since I don't like making mistakes,

I try to rectify them as soon as possible.

Well, you certainly have,

at least in my case.

Now...

If I sign these contracts

will you be in charge of my company?

Would you like me to be in charge?

Well, to tell the truth, Claudia...

I think you already are.

Hello, Violin.

Valene.

What took you so long?

Well...

I had to check to see if you were alone.

I'm Mary Robeson.

I'm Joe's mother.

Yeah, your son did...

contract work on the Sumner ranch, he...

He ended up suing Greg, right?

He lost.

Sumner's high-priced lawyer saw to that.

I'd like to see the money.

Well, I would like to hear your story.

Money first.

Alright, I'll tell you what.

Here is half.

If I like what you have to say, then you'll get the rest.

You'll like what I have to say.

Did you ever know my son Gerald?

No, of course I didn't.

He was a good looking guy.

He loved the women. And boy, the women loved him.

Look, would you please just get to the point, okay?

Well, Sumner's a busy man.

He hadn't got much time for his wife.

-Yeah. -Joe's around a lot.

Well, it's only natural.

Are you trying to tell me...

that your son and Laura had an affair?

They had a child.

Meg.

[suspenseful music]

If...

if that's true, then why didn't he...

claim Meg after she was born?

Because Sumner paid him off, ran him off the ranch.

Laura was sick, she was dying and she couldn't fight it.

I'd say that was worth a couple of chapters in your book.

Wouldn't you?

Yes, I certainly would.

Do you have the original birth certificate?

-Birth certificate? -Mhm.

With your son's name listed as the father.

No, no, Sumner already put his name on it.

He already paid Joe off at that time.

Okay, maybe then, how about some love letters or...

or pictures of Joe and Laura taken when they were together.

Do you have that?

No.

They wouldn't have anything like that lying around.

-They had to be careful. -Why did they have

-to be careful? -Because Sumner...

-So he wouldn't find out. -But then how did he find out?

[suspenseful music]

Let me tell you something,

if you ever try to call me again,

or you talk about this to anybody else,

or you try to sell this ridiculous story to anyone,

I will make sure that you spend a very long time in jail.

[tense music]

Lawton took off a little over an hour ago.

The Marina master didn't see Miss Matheson.

She was here. This is her ID bracelet.

I want the fastest boat we can get our hands on.

If I can't rent it, I'll buy it.

I've got your motor launch right here. The keys are in it.

Managers say which way he thought they were headed.

He says Lawton bought charts for Baja

and kept calling at Chesapeake Bay.

[tense music]

I've contacted the Coast Guard.

The police are getting a chopper down here.

[tense music]

There's nothing but static on this.

I'll see if I can get my money back.

-Can't this go any faster? -You want to drive?

We should have waited for the helicopter.

The Coast Guard.

See if you can find some binoculars.

Don't hit anything.

[suspenseful music]

-[Val] Hello. -Hi.

Mmm. Oh!

Something smells good.

-What is it? -Spaghetti.

My secret sauce.

Secret sauce.

[laughs]

You're just getting back from Karen's?

Where are the twins and Meg?

They're upstairs in our bedroom watching television.

Are you gonna answer me or what?

Gary.

I'm sorry. I guess you were right.

Goodness, thanks. What happened?

Well, I...

I finally met with that woman.

You know, the one that had all the exclusive information

on Greg?

You were right, it's a dumb thing to do

because all she wanted was my money

in exchange for her lies.

Well, I guess you had to find that out for yourself.

Yeah, maybe so.

It's just that she made me so angry. I was...

I was just so overwhelmed with curiosity

I just couldn't... couldn't wait to find out what...

what shocking thing she might have to say.

Well, hey, look, you had to get it out of your system.

It's got to count for something. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Gary, you're being way too generous about this.

[laughs] You're welcome.

Besides, it's gonna be nice not to have to argue

about that book anymore.

Yep.

From now on, I'm gonna approach this book like a professional.

Wait a minute, I thought you said you'd given up the book.

No, Gary, I can't. Not now.

It's way... It's way too important to me.

You know, there are a lot of disturbed people out there

with... all kinds of misinformation about Sumner.

Information that is dangerous for them to have.

Yeah, but there's nothing you can do about that.

You have no control over them.

Maybe not.

Maybe I can find out how they got that information

and stop them from using it.

Wait a minute. I'm confused here.

You said you'd learned your lesson,

but now it sounds like you're gonna start running

after crazy people again. Why?

So I can protect the people that I love.

Call Karen and tell her that Meg can have dinner with us.

I'm going to go up and get the kids ready.

[Paige] Pierce.

It's beautiful up here, Margaret. It's so peaceful.

I want to go home.

Honey, not until we're married.

We got to prove to your parents how serious

we are about each other.

I've changed my mind.

I've got to think about this.

[laughs]

It's pre-marriage jitters. You'll get over them.

No, no, I have had enough of this.

I am Paige.

Paige. I am Paige Matheson.

The girl you met in Vancouver, not in Maryland.

Margaret is dead, Pierce.

She is dead. Do you understand? She is dead.

Turn this boat around.

-Paige? -Yes.

Don't you remember?

We used to live together.

We used to love each other.

I'm Paige.

Paige.

I'm sorry, I don't know what you're talking about.

[tense music]

[laughs]

[Vanessa] Come back here, you [indistinct]

Tickle me, will you?

I'm going to get you.

-No, you're not. -Yes, I am.

Yeah, I am.

[laughing]

-Are you hungry? -Very.

Me too.

Hello, Alex.

Claudia.

Hi.

Uh...

Do you know Vanessa?

-Hello, Mrs. Whittaker. -Vanessa?

Oh, yes.

Kate's friend.

Yes.

Nice to see you again.

Claudia, what are all the news vans doing...

-Ted. ...out front?

I'm sure you remember Alex from the office.

He's a trainee and my house guest, temporarily.

-How do you do, Sir? -It's nice to see you.

And this is a good friend of my daughter Kate.

-This is Vanessa... -Hunt.

-Nice to meet you. -Pleasure.

I'm sorry, Claudia.

If I knew you'd have company, I would have...

No, no, no, no, no.

Alex, I am the one who is sorry.

If I knew you were having company,

I would have given you some time to yourselves.

Is Kate joining you?

No, no, she... This was kind of impulsive.

Oh, how nice. Isn't that nice, Mr. Burton?

I like being impulsive too, sometimes.

Well, Mr. Burton and I just came by for a drink

before going to dinner. Is wine alright?

Would you prefer something stronger?

Well, as a matter of fact, I make a pretty good martini.

Well, good. Right this way.

You'll excuse us.

-Cute couple, don't you think? -Very.

[boat engine]

I'm starting to see double with these things.

I can't believe you've given up.

Yeah, you ever known me to give up on anything?

No, so keep looking.

Got to be out there.

There it is.

[suspenseful music]

Hold on.

[boat accelerates]

[tense music]

[boat engine stalls]

[boat engine stalls]

She's out by deck. She's alive.

-Help! Help! Help! -[Pierce] Get away. Get away.

Help me! Help!

Let go of me.

Let go.

[Mack] Paige, we're going to get you, honey!

-[Greg] Get ready to jump. -[Mack] Just grab it.

-[Mack] Hey, hey. -[Greg] Let me get closer.

Let me get closer.

Hang on, I'll circle around.

[tense music]

Mack!

[Paige] Stop it!

You alright?

Stay here, I'll be right back.

-[screaming] -[Paige] No!

Pierce, stop!

Mack!

Pierce, no!

Greg!

Greg!

Greg!

Mack, stop it!

Stop! Greg! No!

[tense music]

Mack!

Greg!
