[Heidi] Previously on Project Runway.

[Jay] When you put people in teams,

you're bound to have people whose heads are gonna butt.

I felt that I had to help Kevin along.

I did feel that Austin

could have done a better job with leadership.

[Austin] Complete bull [bleep]

Let's call this week's challenge,

Making A Splash.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jay] Austin was really being over the top and fake.

[Austin] Tim basically said, you know,

we had to do whatever it takes.

Hello, America, they saw my vag*na.

[Kevin] Morgan said that she's going to a club.

I don't know if it's good to wear my outfit there.

[Kara] I don't think I would have taken that chance.

[Jay] What happened?

It ripped.

Oops.

[Kevin] Not cool.

It's, like, really honestly, I'm over this.

[Heidi] Seven of you remain.

One designer will be cut every week

until three remain.

Those three will show their line at Olympus Fashion Week--

then, one winner will be chosen.

The winner will receive a spread in ELLE Magazine,

a mentorship with Banana Republic design team,

and $100,000 to start their own line.

Alexandra and Kevin,

it's between the two of you.

Alexandra, you're out.

[upbeat music playing]

This is the search

for the next big fashion designer.

[Jay] It's a cut-throat business.

[woman] The competition was fierce.

[Heidi] Twelve contestants, three finalists,

and one winner.

Three designers will make their runway debut

at Olympus Fashion Week.

[Alexandra] I plan to make it to fashion week.

[man] I think I'll be number one.

[Heidi] And the winner of Project Runway

will receive everything they need

to start their own label.

[woman] I think I deserve to win.

People are gonna start getting pretty bitchy.

Oh, my.

For these 12 contestants

Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.

[upbeat music playing]

[Robert] There's six of us remaining,

three of us gonna go, and three are gonna move on

to the--to do the show.

So these, like, next-- this challenge

and the next three challenge

are gonna be the most difficult ones.

How does it feel to be a team?

[Jay] I feel like good designers were lost

sort of along the way and I feel like

today was the first time where I just looked at Robert,

and I was like, "What are you doing here?"

[Wendy] I'm getting a definite impression

that Austin and Kara Saun are, like, the golden children.

They have this scientific formula,

they know what to do, they do it,

and good for them.

There's three people going to the final.

Still leaves one space,

so I gotta get to that third space

and that's all I'm thinking about.

[upbeat music playing]

Welcome back to the runway.

Half of you are out and six of you remain.

After today you're only two challenges away

from our final three and as you know

the final three will all have to create

their own collection for fashion week

here in New York.

This weeks' challenge will give you

a preview of that experience.

As one group,

you have one day to design a whole collection.

One of you will be the leader

and will take responsibility

for the overall look of the collection.

Each of you will design

and create one outfit for the line.

Tim will give you the rest of the details.

Let's bring out your models.

[intense music playing]

[Heidi] I just wanna remind our models

that this is our competition for you as well.

There's a spread in ELLE magazine on the line

for the final model.

There are six designers left

but seven models on the runway.

I will draw your name out of this bag

and you will choose one model will be out.

Austin, you won last week's challenge,

you get to choose the first model.

I would like Erin.

Jay?

[Jay] Julia.

Yes.

Robert.

I wanna pick Olga.

Kevin.

Kevin, you had Morgan?

-What happened? -It ripped.

This binding came off a little bit right there.

[Kevin] No more drama.

I want Martinique.

Kara Saun.

I wanna go with Jenny again.

[Heidi] There are two models left on stage,

Morgan and Melissa.

So Wendy that leaves you who the one you choose

will be in, the other model will be out.

I obviously have a very special relationship

with you, dear.

Yeah.

[sobbing]

And you and I are gonna go

-above and beyond this. -You're gonna make me cry.

I choose Melissa.

The challenge have been presented to us

that I was part of a team,

and I know that nobody wants to work with Morgan.

I decided I'm part of a team, I'm gonna choose

for the team, so I chose Melissa.

[Heidi] Sorry, Morgan.

Yeah.

[speaking foreign language]

[dramatic music playing]

[Kara] When Morgan left, everybody was relieved

because it was just bad energy,

and to have to worry about another Morgan drama

would have been too much for everybody.

Okay.

You know your challenge? You got your models?

-[Tim] Morning again. -Hi.

Good morning.

This challenge is a taste of two challenges

from now which is when each of you remaining

will be designing a collection.

You're to work together on a group of clothes,

and one of you will be the leader.

You have all day today and a few hours tomorrow

to complete your designs.

Your design brief is to design

for the year 2055.

-[man] Oh! -[man] Wow.

-[woman] Yes! -[man] Hallelujah.

-That's us. -[applause]

[laughs]

So you need to think about the 2055 issues.

Is it The Jetsons,

or is it Blade Runner?

That's pretty provocative.

Now, shopping,

we are going to a vintage clothing store.

You will each have $50.

[Kevin] Vintage is, uh, dated.

It's the opposite of future.

That's the challenge.

[Tim] That's up to you.

Yeah. We're expecting you to.

Wow.

While you're working together as a group,

each of you will be creating one piece

of the team leader's collection.

You will be judged on the quality and execution

of your design and how well it fits

into the leader's overall concept.

We will determine who the leader is.

I have our lovely, notorious,

black velvet bag

which I'm reaching into...

and it is Kevin.

Okay.

When my name was called, I kinda felt disappointment

in the other people.

[Austin] When we did the Sara Hudson Project,

I think we could all agree that Kevin's team

was the most sort of hectic...

We're gonna have to line it or something,

-just-- -[Nora] Why line it?

Don't argue with me.

I could have had this skirt already done.

I'm out of here.

Yeah. When I was a leader before,

it went, I guess, pretty well.

All of us sort of maybe had, like,

a touch of a nervous look.

[Kevin] As long as we stick all together, collaborate.

Are you with me?

[Wendy] I don't think Kevin is the greatest leader

in the world.

However, it suits me fine because Kevin's

in a leadership position and I assume he is more vulnerable.

-Put your hands in, people. -[Kevin] Let's do it. Screw it.

-[Kara] Let's go. -[Kevin] This is good.

[Austin] Go Project Runway.

So I'll come back in about 20 minutes.

-[Kevin] Great. -[Tim] Good luck.

[Jay] We brainstormed for a bit of time

and got some ideas together as far as what direction

we wanted to go in for the collection.

I don't think it's gonna be

the end of the world.

-No, no. -So we can still add,

you know, the leather and all that kind of stuff.

[Kevin] I think we should play more

on one or the other, Blade Runner judgments.

-What about a gamble? -I think that should be bold.

[Kevin] It all started to click together.

The ideas turned out really developing then.

-Yellow, citron, and green? -Yeah.

[Jay] Upon our brainstorming, we talked about b*llet points.

Our color palette is, like, peachy,

and tan, khaki, browns.

So for me, like, one of the important things

that has to run through our clothes is protection.

There's public and there's private,

and I think, as the future--

in the future of those two spheres

are gonna become ever more separated.

[Austin] Wendy came up with some ideas about,

you know, the environment, protection,

this idea was, like, sort of protective overwrap.

We're covering ourselves with a shell

which we are calling a pod.

Which is protective against the elements--

global warming, nuclear fallouts...

And it brings us together more, too, as a group.

And when a girl drops the pod, it would reveal

the difference in each designer.

[upbeat music playing]

[Robert] We're going to a vintage store

to purchase $50 worth of vintage wear

that we're gonna transform

to make a collection for the year 2055.

$680.

[upbeat music playing]

I want something big khaki gold lame, like 80s down...

[upbeat music playing]

[Wendy] Kevin went around to each individual designer

and he did make comments here and there,

but by and large, I felt that he was trying

to pacify everybody, and just keep everybody happy.

We're doing something to really warn

that lacy situation a little bit.

-But I don't think -Is he on?

there's anything wrong with me not having lace.

No, it's cool.

[Wendy] This is going to be a skirt and a shirt

to be worn by somebody during the day.



[Austin] Okay. So I got a jacket,

with like, a sleeve and collar.

I'm basically ready, I think.

[Jay] I'm kind of doing my own thing, I guess,

but I'm listening, you know,

and I'm paying attention to what everyone else is doing.

We could have really been clearer at this thing,

and it could have been, you know,

space age and silver.

And I'm glad we took an intelligent approach to it.

Robert seems kind of not understanding it.

I have about, like, $800

-worth of things in my back. -[man] I know.

And I mean, like, he's just trying

to keep his head above water.

[Kevin] Rob, I'm worried about you.

-[Robert] What? -[Kevin] I'm worried about this.

[Robert] I mean, gold gazook, because you're kind of like

trying to think of the future. You know what?

Me personally I like the power of now.

I like to focus on what the hell is going on right now.

And as of right now, I'm confused

about this future project.

And I don't really like this.

Well, this, I'm definitely buying.

-[Tim] Kevin? -[Kevin] Yes?

-15 minutes. -[Kevin] Okay.

I had the idea initially

that I wanna do a coat for these futurist...

Looking, I came up with the idea that it would be a uniform.

I'm done.

Futuristic my a*s.

Thank you, cheap jacks.

[man] Thank you.

[upbeat music playing]

Guys, we're gonna layout our fabric on one table.

-[man] [indistinct] still doing? -[man] Yeah.

[Kara] Yeah. Just lay it out

so we could see what we all have.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] How's it look from up there?

[Robert] Nice.

-Looks great. -[Kevin] It's great.

[Kara] So you lined everything up on the table

and it looks really good.

It looks like it's going to be a cohesive collection.

Now it's time to put everything together

and we just don't have a lot of time.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway.

[panicky screaming]

[Kevin] We're really running out of time.

Frankly, I'm a little concerned.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] This challenge is futurism.

The object is to create a collection.

And lucky me, I got chosen as the head of the team.

[cameras clicking]

[Kara] We decided to do a couple b*llet points

as far as our theme was concerned.

We wanted to bring in the theme of nostalgia,

like, they were living in the future

but we remember our past.

[Kevin] And we're covering ourselves with a shell

which we are calling a pod.

[upbeat music playing]

[Austin] It's really up to Kevin to ensure

that all of our designs do look like a collection.

I would have to say he's not always the best communicator.

In this case, however,

I do feel he's trying to make an effort.

[upbeat music playing]

[Austin] I wanna use a bra top

as, like, the shoulder.

My design, you know, just has the sort of luxury element to it

that, uh, I just wanna think

of an intimate c*ck party at home.

I think that in the future,

in my opinion, certainly, that the skills of construction

almost feel like a dying art in a way.

You know, not that many people know

how to sew anymore, first of all.

[Kevin] Jay, heirloom has got a plan.

He's got--he's got this going.

[Kevin] I'm thinking very Siberian, like, um...

Totally different, right?

Yeah.

I have the same color palette as everyone else.

I have the same feeling as everyone else.

I'm using fabrics from everybody else's garments.

I'm just kind of interpreting it my own way.

I'm doing like a srani thing out of that.

To see all of this-- this log cabin having

trimmed out in that tulle, copper, metallic.

Dude.

[Kara] I'm doing a cover-up, a jacket,

and it's very futuristic in structure.

How are you gonna make this sh*t?

The same way you're making that [bleep] that.

Come on.

[Kevin] Kara Saun's all right.

She--this is also her thing.

She's definitely inserted herself

into a co-leadership.

We're making decisions together.

-Right. -[Robert] I wanted a lace.

I mean, I do wanna incorporate leather...

Well, you still have something that's feminine

-and soft that shine. -Uh-hmm.

[Kara] Kevin and I have had our problems in the past.

He's been sneaky.

He's been passive aggressive.

If you wanna know I'll tell you,

but I don't think you wanna know what I think.

[Kara] And just really not all that nice to people.

But this is a team

and I'm gonna do what I have to do for the team.

[upbeat music playing]

[Robert] I say, you know what,

there's gonna be no coffee

in the year 2055.

And since we don't have the coffee,

now you got these solar panels top--

that's just on top of your clothing,

this is gonna give you energy 100%.

[Austin] Rob comes up with some silly

sort of idea like just one,

like, catch phrase or something like dumb thing.

In my opinion, he's always the weak link.

[Kevin] Since you're gonna take this in too, probably

make it a little sexier and cuter.

[Robert] Oh, yeah, they can.

[Wendy] Because this is day wear,

and so she's going out

and she needs all of her [bleep] right here.

You're gonna hook on your GPS,

-All right. -your phone.

But I'm cool.

[Kevin] No, I do.

Wendy and I had the worst relationship.

All of a sudden, it just turned around like a 180.

It was completely opposite.

I don't know if I'm being played or not.

You know, I can't trust anybody.

[Jay] Those two are buddy-buddy today,

so I think it's just for the good of the team

is why they're doing it, I'm sure.

You know, later on the truth will come out.

[upbeat music playing]

How's everybody doing?

We have all the proper pieces,

we have skirts, pants, shorts.

Well, having the proper pieces is one thing,

but what about the design?

I just wanna make certain

that this doesn't b*mb out as a collection.

And my dear friend, you're responsible for that.

-Yup. -So are you getting up

and moving around to people's places

and checking and looking?

It's taking me a lot of time but I'll do it.

Okay.

This is a coat that everybody gonna be wearing.

-[Tim] Okay. -This overcoat.

And we created a logo for it.

[Tim] Okay.

What the judges are going to be very concerned with

is what's going on inside, right?

And that's where you could crash and burn.

Looking at the kind of activity I'm a--

frankly, I'm a little concerned.

These judges are gonna know right away

if something isn't right.

And looking for the best,

it doesn't seem to be the process now.

It's identifying, okay, who's the weakest link,

pow, you're out.

And any of you are subject to that.

And Kevin, in many ways you were the most vulnerable,

given that you're the leader here.

All right. I'm reluctantly leaving you.

[Jay] Tim didn't really see what direction we are going in.

Hopefully, when we make these outer shells,

that's when we're gonna be more collaborative.

[Kevin] We're really running out of time,

so our plan is to finish up

our personal looks

and then whip out some pod.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jay] I'm a little bit nervous because time is ticking.

What are you talking about?

You know, I always have these grand things planned,

and I feel like with this time constraints

I always am taking things away,

and not getting my vision fully across.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] I'm under a lot of pressure.

To be a team leader, that was too many questions.

Well, what about all these [bleep] feathers?

[Kevin] And it takes a lot of work.

You know, it's probably taking at least 20%

of my time away.

And I'm concerned about my own work.

[upbeat music playing]

Rob,

I honestly don't know what the hell he's doing.

[Kara] Rob's like in another country right now.

We're just all kind of amazed at Rob's staying power,

and the way he can sort of just

schmooze the judges into going into his theme.

Where is envy in your outfit?

I came up with-- this is p*nis envy.

[Kara] He'll just give that smile

and make that little dirty comment.

I believe a woman and a classic sports car are very much alike.

They're laughing and Rob's still here.

[intense music playing]

Should we go through with the pod?

We'll just say that, you know what,

we felt our garments were strong enough

-to live without the pod. -I don't need pod.

I don't need pod.

I don't need a pod.

You want the pod, don't you?

I like the pod.

[Kara] It's about 11:45 right now,

and we have until 12:00 to sew,

and no pod has been made.

So I think we're gonna nix that idea completely.

[Jay] I'm still [bleep] sewing my poncho.

Oh.

[Wendy] When it became a time issue

and we couldn't do the pods,

the whole venture kind of disintegrated

into basically each individual designer

doing their own piece.

That's an example of where a leader

should have been keeping taps on what needed to be done.

[Kara] There's too many themes going on right now,

so we have to sort of play devil's advocate with ourselves,

and say, look, what questions can be raised tomorrow.

We should do a lineup.

[Robert] This is it.

What about this says future to you?

[Wendy] Everybody gathers together

and we put these garments next to each other

and we just happen to kind of be color coordinated,

but other than that, I really did not feel myself

that anything was remotely connected to anything else.

[Jay] I need to get out of this room.

-[Kara] Why? -I'm just--

I just can't talk about it anymore.

[Kara] Okay. But, you know--okay,

but we need to talk about it.

[Jay]

[Kara] He's freaking out, but you know what...

Mine's sticking out like a sore thumb.

[Kevin] Jay, mine's sticking out more than yours.

[Kara] A smoke. Go get a cigarette.

[Jay] Okay. Well, see you down there.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway...

We don't have [bleep] enough time.

We don't have the right materials. Hello?

[Austin] If I was in Wendy's shoes, I'd be nervous.

[Tim] Maybe they'll say this is fabulous.

We love it. What a great collection.

I don't think so.

[whimsical music playing]

[Robert] Who wants a beer?

Jay, you want a beer with those--

with that cereal?

[Wendy] Kara Saun decided

that we needed to have a group meeting

and talk about all the ways

we were gonna stand up on the runway

and justify our collection.

She took charge of the meeting

which I think was a dream come true for her.

And when we talk about privacy we're talking about

even though all these things have happened,

we had uniformity and we have barcodes,

we still each have...

Part of being a leader

is that you listen to other people,

and Kevin did listen to us.

The part of being a great leader is that,

as a leader you'll never let someone

come in and take control.

This is not really about

what we really think is gonna happen.

-This is about... -Yeah.

-...our little world... -It's a story.

...that we need to sell tomorrow.

Everybody, can you say your own--

what your own little thing is?

-[Wendy] Oh. -[Austin] Again,

the sort of environmental concern,

the protection.

Mine is purely emotional.

The expand and unexpand.

One size fits all?

[bleep] 2055, hell, yeah.

Okay.

[Wendy] Listening to these yahoos talk,

this pseudo-intellectual crap

about how they were gonna justify this "collection,"

I was laughing my a*s off and just thought

they were biggest bunch of idiots.

[Jay] Wendy is busting out over there.

[Austin] Luxurious sort of, you know, the Regan.

I have an idea,

let's just go there and be like,

we don't really know what the future's gonna be like,

so we just kinda made these things.

[laughter]

-I like that. -No one's gonna be laughing

tomorrow when someone's out.

[tense music playing]

[Tim] Jay?

-[Jay] Yeah? -How are things?

I'm not super excited with it,

and I was really excited about the challenge.

It's right up my alley and I feel like I don't have

the right materials or the right equipment

to do what I usually do.

I mean, I will tell you, this is beautiful.

-[Jay] Yeah, I think it is nice. -[Tim] Does this look like

it fits in with Robert's and Wendy's?

[Jay] Well, you didn't see the skirt.

[Tim] Yeah. Not entirely.

One that I'm gripped by is 2055,

I don't see it.

Yeah. Me either.

Jay, I want you to bull[bleep] me.

Oh, okay. [laughs]

I thought we were talking truthfully.

Well, I have a hard time playing

this bull[bleep] role.

It could have been a really clean simple explanation

of what the future is.

But it's turning into this giant script

that we have to learn,

and I'm going to have to stand there and lie

and try to sell my work that I don't even like

to these people who probably don't even like it.

-How are you, Wendy? -[Wendy] I'm good. How are you?

Good.

Where's the outer wear?

-[Wendy] Oh, the pod thing? -[Tim] Yeah.

Yeah, we didn't do that.

Oh, I thought that was what was holding everything together.

The idea all seemed to center around the pod,

but now the pod's gone.

-[Robert] You know, Tim-- -[Tim] Not that I even liked

the pod that much, but at least

-it was a common denominator. -[Robert] Yeah, yeah, it's the--

Frankly, it's the job of the leader

to figure out how much time we have

and how many things we can incorporate

-Uh-hmm. Uh-hmm. -[Wendy] into the collection.

Would you feel comfortable saying,

"In the absence of leadership,

I had to do what I had to do"?

[Wendy] I'll go this far.

I would like to be here tomorrow.

What happened to the pods, Kevin?

We thought it was tacky.

[Tim] But it was the only--

it was the one thing that was gonna hold

all these things together as a group.

No, it isn't the one thing.

Our coloration...

Abandoning the idea might put me in jeopardy.

Me,

it depends.

I might not have to explain myself.

Um, we might not have to reveal

that we had the original idea.

[Tim] I mean, maybe I'm completely wrong.

Maybe they'll say, this is fabulous,

we love it, what a great collection.

I don't think so.

Oh, thanks.

[Tim] Individually, these look very impressive.

As a group, I-- my brain is bleeding.

And Kevin, yours looks the most separate

from the group.

[Kevin] Yeah.

Yeah, it is.

[Kara] Whatever Tim says, I guarantee it,

you're gonna hear it again.

I guess we're gonna be in a defense today.

[Kara] I think Kevin has a little strategy going on.

The look of deconstruction is sort of tattered and torn.

Deconstructed was one of our key words.

His design,

it's polished, it's finished, it's him.

It's gonna be the one piece

that does not look like the rest of the collection.

It's a risky strategy.

[Jay] Kevin's is really simple.

And mine next to him,

don't look like they're in the same collection together.

Now I feel like mine's like Holly Hobby

deconstructed craft project up there,

and I'm just not psyched about it.

This project sucks my a*s [bleep] inside out.

We don't have [bleep] enough time.

We don't have the right materials. Hello?

[upbeat music playing]

[Austin] I don't know what Wendy's idea was.

If I was in Wendy's shoes, I'd be nervous.

[Wendy] I am completely terrified

of the runway show today.

But I think there are some people

that are in a weaker position than me today.

And that'd be Rob and Kevin.

And then what you have here is the solar panels.

The solar panels will give you energy

all the time.

[Wendy] I just don't think Robert

has the intellectual heft

to contribute to some of the concepts

we've been, you know, throwing around.

-[Olga] You won this challenge. -No, I don't think so.

[Heidi] Coming up on Project Runway.

[upbeat music playing]

[Anne] Quite frankly, it looked like my cat

chewed up a ball of yarn and, like, spit it out.

[Michael] It just didn't push my buttons.

Welcome back to the runway.

So now out of twelve, there's only six of you left.

And as you know, this competition

is just as ruthless as the fashion business itself.

At the end of tonight, one of you guys will be out.

This week, your challenge was to design as a group,

to do a mini-collection...

and were told to design for the year 2055.

You will be judged on how well your outfits

fit the theme of this challenge

and whether or not it works with the collection.

The winner of this challenge will have a guaranteed in

for the next challenge.

And will be one spot away from the final three.

All right, let's start the show.

[Austin] I feel very good. I think I did a good job.

I think it is futuristic,

but still keeping this-- you know,

the whole Austin Scarlett look.

[upbeat music playing]

[Robert] Going to the runway show,

I had to feel positive.

I'm like, yeah, you know what, I mean,

mine is not the best but it's not the worst.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kevin] I love this. What I mean, I love it.

I'm really happy with it.

I represent the other end of the spectrum,

which is a little more constructive.

[upbeat music playing]

[Wendy] It's not particularly formal,

but it's enough to be able to be stylish

for whatever kinds of events might be in 2055.

[upbeat music playing]

[Jay] If I'm eliminated, I'll be sad.

I'll be--I'll be sad.

I'll be annoyed if there's people

that should have gotten eliminated, and I got eliminated.

[upbeat music playing]

[Kara] Each challenge,

people get to see what I could do.

That I'm able to really be versatile

and go in different directions and different areas.

This is a collection that you all created in a group.

So you will all remain on the runway for the Q and A.

-Kevin. -[Kevin] Yes.

[Heidi] You are the lead designer of this collection.

So tell us a little bit about it.

It's based on a lifestyle,

post- some kind of w*r

and each one represents maybe a social figure in the society.

There have more appreciation for the earth

and that's why they have the earth tones.

They all appreciate nature as it was.

[Michael] Okay. Question.

Kara. Um...

so I'm feeling a little Mad Max-y Victorian combo.

I think the coat's super dramatic.

Does this all come apart?

This is her day into night, actually outfit.

You see, a lot of the pieces are covered

and have the protection from the elements,

that's why she has this,

which she can take off once she gets to the party.

It has versatility which, let's be honest,

that's gonna be the future.

It's how we all live.

[Anne] Robert, what's going on?

[Robert] My collection represents,

in cultural way, that she's still a street girl.

She's a street wear.

You know, you got to think about the future like,

you know, we think of what about the function.

For example, I need energy with coffee.

I'm a coffee drinker.

So I put solar panels on top of her,

so she will have energy 100% of the time.

Okay.

[tense music playing]

Jay, can you just tell me

a little bit about, uh,

your look and the person she may or may not represent?

[Jay] This is kind of like the 3:00 AM girl.

[laughter]

You know, after work.

Not a hooker.

So the whole idea behind mine is,

you know, when you go through your 20s,

your late 20s, you're, like, in an emotional state.

You don't know what direction your life is in.

So, she has this emotional pad on the back of her

which is kind of, like, oh, she's, uh, in a mess today,

so we won't talk to her.

-[Anne] That's a very good idea. -[Michael] That's good.

Sensory, I like that.

Austin, are there bullfights in the future?

[laughter]

My basic, uh, sort of ideas that I was going with

was a move towards a little more modesty.

It is sort of a date-y evening.

The jacket, come off, if I may.

And also the little cowl we have for--

which was a--one of the protective elements

sheilding her skin and her throat,

which is one of the most delicate areas of the body

from the elements.

[Betsy] It's a little too wearable

but something I wouldn't wanna wear.

Your garment, though, I'm just curious.

But first off, so how does she move?

She can break out here.

There's an opening.

[Michael] I mean, I think it looks kind of, like,

jackets we see now,

just you can't move in it.

[Anne] Well, Wendy, I have to say that

when I saw your outfit coming down the runway,

I was a little bit nonplussed

and thinking to myself, what was that?

Okay. Well, the jumping off point for me

was that this is a younger girl

who is going out for the day

and she's doing her errands and she has business meetings

and she needs all of her personal information on her.

[Anne] Quite frankly, it looked like my cat

chewed up a ball of yarn and, like,

spit it out an hour later.

Okay. I just have one more question.

Wendy, can you comment just a little bit

about Kevin as a leader?

Okay. I personally felt that Kevin was not as active

as a leader as he could have been.

I think the collection could have been better directed

had he been more involved in getting us on the same path.

[Kevin] I came by Wendy at least four or five times.

[Austin] I thought he did a good job which is trying to,

you know-- addressing every designer individually.

[Wendy] What ended up happening, in my opinion,

is we diluted everything.

Okay.

[Heidi] Kara Saun, what do you think?

It's a very collective group.

I think we're all able to do what we wanted to do

as far as our individual pieces.

So you feel he was a good leader?

I feel that it was a very group effort

and he allowed people to input their own thing and--

[Wendy] But I'm saying as far as leading a group of people

and corralling them in.

[Kara] Austin's so polished and finished and beautiful work,

for him to get deconstruct means something.

[Wendy] Primarily, the job of the leader

is making them stay on message

and create six garments that connect.

So when they come down the runway, they tell a story.

That's the point of showing a collection.

I--it was really important

for me to ask everybody to come to me

if they had any ideas of what they are doing

if they fit into the b*llet points or what not.

We're gonna deliberate.

Please leave the runway

and we'll gonna call you back shortly.

[Kevin] It's okay.

I know the truth.

You know, I hope she's happy with it,

you know, trying to make me look bad.

It's too easy.

It's too easy to win that way.

[Kara] I know that she's fighting for survival

and I know that she wants to stay,

but so do we all.

I think that when you want something bad enough,

it can bring out some really ugly behavior.

[Wendy] I'm the only one that spoke up

against Kevin's leadership,

and I was hardly the only one that questioned his leadership.

But of course, I'm the only one that comes out and says it,

until they all look they're this cohesive friendly group.

And, you know, I'm out in outer space.

Did you think it was a cohesive collection

from a scale like, one to ten?

I kind of thought I could look at Robert's.

-[Heidi] Uh-hmm. -[Anne] And Jay's.

[Michael] And Jay's and Kara Saun's.

And I though those three

kind of looked like they went together.

I felt the others really were off on their own tangents.

And excuse me, color is not enough to bring it in.

-[Anne] No. -[Michael] Those three

really listened to everything that,

I think, this was about.

I thought that Austin and Kevin,

they were, like, two separated people.

-On their own. -Others kind of held together.

Austin got slightly into the deconstruction

-but there was some work. -[Michael] He was forced.

-You could tell. -[Betsy] Yeah.

[Michael] Sort of like he was pushed.

He's very talented but he's so focused

that he has a hard time.

I liked Kara.

-[Michael] Well, I did too. -[Anne] I like Kara Saun.

[Betsy] You know, I liked her layers,

her--the Victorian, sexy woman and girl--

Yeah, charm and it was sleek. It was both.

That straw-high garter.

And it was strong, sexy, confident.

I appreciate that Robert

actually put a lot of thought into everything.

-Fun. It was fun. -Yeah.

And I liked the versatility of his ideas.

[Michael] From a taste point of view,

hey, I like the look of his outfit.

When you see this whole lineup, which one was your worst?

Our leader.

-Kevin. -Kevin.

He just forgot

the deconstruction idea completely.

[Michael] It was strange. He's the group leader

and he didn't listen to his own edict.

Well, I think that he's not a natural born leader.

He didn't--yeah, I think that was probably

-another challenge for him. -Listen, he's talented

but you're gonna have to be a leader.

I mean, you're gonna be in business.

I really did not like Wendy's outfit at all.

I just--I thought it looked dowdy.

And I thought there was no futuristic element at all.

And it fell apart, you know, like, what was in her pocket?

I don't mind criticism amongst the group

but I certainly felt she was very quick

to go after Kevin.

But I do think the funny thing is in this instance,

I don't like how it looked,

but I think she listened to where the group wanted to go.

I'm sorry. You know, give me no deconstruction

over a bad deconstruction idea of just, like, shredding knit.

All right. Let's spread the news.

Let's get our designers back on the runway.

[intense music playing]
