It's just getting really kinda ugly.

Victorya.

You are the winner of this challenge.

Marion, you're out.

An opportunity to sell their line

Who will be the next big fashion designer?

Bottom line, I'm the best.

I will own the runway.

For these 15 designers,

Project runway is the chance of a lifetime.

[Jack] your nice 'n easy is in here.

Being here on project runway

Is the experience of a lifetime.

I have been hiv positive for 17 years.

And I've never been healthier.

It wasn't an easy road to get here.

So for me, the ultimate goal

Is really to make it to bryant park.

What do you think marion's doing?

[Sighs] it's so upsetting, I don't even wanna, like,

-Think of it. -[Rami] I know.

[Chris] why couldn't they just got rid of christian?

Nobody would've cried.

[Laughter]

Did you hear that, christian?

[Chris laughing uproariously]

[Christian] you know what?

You would be so bored if I left.

[Chris] i-i know.

Believe me, we know.

After almost being eliminated,

I'm not as confident as I was before.

But I just know that I make clothes so much better

Than a lot of the other designers.

What is it? What could it be?"

Hello.

[Kevin] who is standing there but tiki barber,

One of the best running backs that the giants ever had.

[Kevin] oh, my god.

[Man] oh, my god.

[Tim] designers, I am honored

To introduce tiki barber,

Legendary running back for the new york giants.

And now a correspondent for the today show.

Tiki's going to present your challenge.

[Applause]

Thank you.

[Ricky] none of us really know who he is.

But wow, you know, he's gorgeous!

[Steven] I know nothing about football except that

It's probably the one time on television

Where spandex is acceptable.

It's good to see all of you.

Your challenge

Is to design an outfit

For me

To wear on the today show.

Oh, h*, h*!

[Jack] 90% of the designers were dying.

In menswear, the tailoring is just so meticulous,

And there's so much work to do

And detail work, and...

[Groans]

Now, I have particular challenges

When you try to outfit me,

Because my neck is so big,

My waist is skinny, but I have a big butt.

And clothes don't fit me

Exactly right, and so my wife and I

Have spent a lot of time

Trying to figure out what looks good on me.

We like dark colors

Um, but I also like patterns and texture

And depth.

Doesn't necessarily have to be a suit.

Uh, but it does have to be something

That's comfortable.

Do you guys have any questions?

Do you like little, like, um,

Subtle details?

I-i love details.

It conveys a personal style.

What are your, uh, favorite, like,

Colors in your favorite outfit?

I'm not afraid of color.

I'll wear pink sometimes.

I'll wear pastels, um, as long as

It accents the whole outfit.

[Jack] tim, if we are men,

Can we use items of clothes we have as reference

That we're wearing?

It's the classic "make it work" moment.

I started sketching,

And then I realized

I had no idea

How to even really sketch menswear!

I have never done men's clothing.

[Blows out]

I think we're all struggling as of right now.

With this challenge.

Most of us don't do menswear.

[Kevin] for tiki, I really automatically

Just wanted to go for the suit look.

I've done menswear in the past.

Not that many people have that much menswear experience.

So I am dying to see what's gonna happen

With everybody, including myself.

I'll hold it in the back.

Never you mind. I'll hold it in the back.

Is that tight on you?

-Or is that because you've got-- -yeah, but--

[Laughter]

[Tim] all right, everybody.

Time is up.

We're going shopping.

Welcome back to mood.

Off you go.

Something to give it a little color,

I think, would be nice.

A little darker than this.

I wanted to make a sportswear type of blazer,

A tailored men's dress shirt,

And I wanted to make a pair of nice slacks.

Time's going by quickly.

And I was naturally nervous.

Got all my yardage.

Does he like hot pants?

[Laughter]

How much are buttons apiece? Oh, here we go.

-15 Minutes, okay? -Okay, good.

Are you all right?

I'm freaking, but I'm good.

You're freaking? All right, everybody is.

More beigey, you know, like school uniform pants.

As a stylist for television,

I know what works on set,

I know that some stripes don't work on set.

So I got a navy fleece, plaid men's shirting,

And a khaki chino for the pant.

-We have a minute. -Great.

He's writing the ticket right this moment.

You just have to be in line. That's all.

Everybody, it's time.

Let's take this challenge back to the workroom.

It's been enough of a challenge here.

[Woman] quickly, quickly, quickly.

I'm thinking the only way I can do well

Is if I make a suit.

I have to show them that I can make a suit.

I mean, once I make the pattern,

Sewing is not a problem.

It's just patterning.

[Sweet p] having never done menswear,

I'm not sure why I decided to go for a full-on suit.

It's probably the hardest thing I could've picked to do.

[Christian] I knew that I wanted to do some type of blazer,

And I knew I wanted to do a pant that was lighter.

And it's a lot of work.

But I know that I'm a fast sewer.

So I'm not worried.

There's a lot of people

That might not finish this time.

[Carmen] jack, and I know this is another ignorant question--

Waistband--2 inches? 2 1/2? 2?

You don't want a fat waistband.



-That's too much. -[Jack] yeah.

I'm gonna do three pieces,

One being the sporty, outerwear jacket,

Polo shirt, and then a really nice pair of slacks.

Jack was a trooper.

I had to ask for help on those things

That I was completely poor at.

-It's one thing to design it-- -i know!

And have a team make it, and it's another thing

To actually make the dad gum sample.

[Jack] like, I know how it's supposed to be made,

But I never make menswear.

I've done a lot of designing,

Uh, but I haven't done a lot of making men's clothes.

You didn't tie it in the front?

No, I just--

Oh, but that looks good.

Little wrap and pleat.

I drew you cherries on your a*s.

I happened to be wearing flat front shorts

That were basically identical

To the silhouette that I wanted to use

For the design,

So I promptly took them off and ripped them apart

And made a pattern out of them.

[Victorya] can I ask you guys a question?

-Can we press it? -Yeah.

-And then just trace it? -Yeah.

-Okay. -Okay.

[Carmen] thank you for being gracious enough to share.

No problem.

This is so much easier than just drafting it

And, like, doing the muslin.

'Cause I'm not gonna do the muslin now.

Right. I'm not either.

-I'm gonna go right to fabric. -Yeah, totally.

Jack took off his shorts

And traced the pattern.

I think carmen and victorya

Used the pattern that already existed.

Everybody was worried about time,

But...

I do not think it was fair.

[Jack] I asked before,

I'm like, "are you allowed to help other person--

Other people?" And they're like, "totally fine."

But I would ask if you could share a pattern.

This is a collaborative pattern.

[Jack] I used my shorts as a pattern,

And that's not against the rules.

Jealousy's gonna bring out the ugly

And whatever.

[Kit] the intensity is definitely up a notch today

In the workroom.

The menswear has brought forth the claws.

[Man] how long do we have in here till tonight?

[Victorya] midnight.

Do these people know how long it takes to do this stuff?

[Man] oh, god.

Oh, just let it go.

[Kit] man down, man down!

[Laughter]

I'm trying to give him a welt pocket for christ's sake.

-[Woman] challenged. -[Man] working.

Challenged? Yes, I think you are.

[Man chuckles]

[Chris] at the end of the first night,

Some of the people were beginning to really freak out,

Because they saw how much time they were gonna have

The next day.

It was gonna just be crazy to get it all done.

[Carmen] oh, my gosh!

I am so excited about having the models.

The guys are good-looking, so the girls are excited.

These fit your a*s perfect.

So are some of the guys, of course.

[Kevin] this is the hardest challenge.

-Yep. -This is really [bleep]ing hard.

People are freaking out.

[Jack] I think my vest is gonna be,

Like, glued together in the back.

All right, get ready.

This is the last time we're gonna have fun today.

[Jillian] the moment we stepped foot in that room,

We all just went straight to work.

We were all on fire.

[In fake new york accent] get lost, buddy.

[In fake accent] I don't think so.

I hope I didn't [bleep] that up too bad.

We get so stressed out

That it's hard to remember

That this is, like, such a fantasy experience.

The time constraints are definitely making

For a more stressful environment

Than we've seen so far.

You're so fast, it's, like, frightening.

[Christian] definitely during this challenge,

I think my speed is my biggest asset.

I'm getting so much done already,

So I'm not worried.

[Chris] I'm a lot older

Than most of the people in the room.

And I never have had

Any sort of formal fashion training at all.

I'm completely self-taught.

In fourth grade, when my mother was hemming my pants,

I pushed her out of the way and said,

"Let me at the sewing machine."

Yay! Pants!

I'm good at pants.

Pants are just two big sleeves sewn together.

It's not that hard.

[Rami] I do not have any experience in menswear.

But I felt the need

To, uh, drape a pair of trousers

With a testing fabric, muslin.

[Sweet p] wow, nice, dude.

Wow, those look nice!

And they're not traced off of a pattern!

Like some other pants.

I'm not accusing anyone.

I'm just saying. I know that some did.

Snap!

They were draped.

[Tim] designers.

I have a very nice announcement to make.

We are sending in your models.

-Whoo! -Yeah!

I am so excited.

When he gets in, I'm getting all his measurements to the t.

[Tim] so you'll have an hour, all right?

I'm gonna send them in right now.

We were given our models for this challenge

At random, and to spend time with our models

Is gonna make a huge difference.

We get fun, male models.

So it makes it all worth it.

Yeah, that's right. Fun, fun, fun.

The guys are good-looking,

So, uh, the girls are excited.

We're, like, sweating b*ll*ts.

So are some of the guys, of course.

Take your clothes off.

[Chris] everybody in the room

Was looking all over the place

At all these, like--

[Inhales sharply]

Disrobing men!

It was quite an exciting afternoon.

When I met my model, david,

I was like, whoa!

'Cause he's beautiful. He is very beautiful.

I can't believe these fit you so well.

[Kevin] everyone of the g*y guys in the room

Was, like, freaking out.

Being the only straight guy,

I'm just like, "whatever, let's move along."

Okay...

[Steven] I'm finally understanding

What it's like for straight guys when they say,

"Oh, my god,

"I can't believe you've got all these hot chicks

Standing around in their underwear."

Okay, fine.

You know...

You win, guys, I get it.

Wow!

Wow, these fit your a*s perfect.

Dude, look at this.

Wow.

Just because of the way I am,

I personally don't feel comfortable

With you getting undressed here

Like the other professional models do.

[Elisa] I have a tendency to be a bit shy.

I have a boyfriend.

And he is the only person

I've actually fitted on intimately.

Ready? Awesome.

He's the only male that I choose to touch.

I wanna do ethnobotany.

-Sounds kinda weird, but-- -mm-mm.

[Ricky] I haven't cut my fabric.

I'm just drafting my pattern.

So I put the muslins that I put together on him

To try them out.

Sorry, I would love to talk to you,

But I can't right now.

I'm so stressed out, I can't think clearly.

Oh, my god, it's gonna be perfect.

[Sweet p] the pants fit him perfectly.

But the shirt is kind of a nightmare.

Oh, my god.

And now I have to start all over again.

And I'm not really happy about it.

[Carmen] this is why I admire those little old men

That sit in those tailor shops.

I was just like, "oh, god, now what?"

[Jillian] we were all

So overwhelmed at that point.

We don't have the time to deal with another surprise.

Ginny is tiki barber's wife.

I think the double vent is a great idea.

So I have a lot of work to do.

So basically I'm going for more of a leisure look,

Chocolate color that's slightly heathered.

[Ginny] um, this is reminiscent of,

-Like, a members only jacket. -Mm-hmm.

And it's very casual.

It worries me too.

It worries me.

I'd reconsider the design of it.

[Carmen] I don't think I have enough material.

She said that it looks very much

Like a members only jacket.

And members only is reminiscent of the '80s.

So I was a little jolted,

Because it was so late in the hour,

And I knew I didn't have enough fabric

To start over completely.

I decided that I should really scale back

On my original design.

But I unfortunately did not give myself

A lot of options by not purchasing enough fabric.

And the tie.

And I'm really good at making vests.

So I changed everything up, drafted a pattern,

Chopped up a vest, used the lining as the back.

Like, "yeah, I'm totally doing a vest."

And I'm thinking, "I'm not doing that vest."

[Sweet p] what will you have?

A dress shirt and pants right now.

If I had a pant and a shirt, at least I knew I was covered

If I wasn't able to get to the vest.

'Cause I didn't want to have a nude model

I have 50 minutes, and I'm [bleep]ed.

I was challenging myself to do a lot,

And I'm just overwhelmed.

I don't know what the [bleep] I'm making.

Because I know I have very little time

To finish my shirt.

[Sighs] and I'm just praying

That I can sew it together really fast.

[Steven] it's time for a hangin'.

[Ricky] I have a plan of attack.

If I can finish my pants and finish my shirt,

Then I can attack the jacket.

Because if you go for it and you fall on your a*s,

This is the hardest challenge I've ever had in my life.

My shirt is adorable.

[Kit] your shirt turned out so rad.

It's good,

Because that's alls I got going on.

I'm not gonna make the vest. It's not possible.

I'd rather send two things down the runway

That I know are really well made

And fit really well.

So I feel good.

I still have a shirt to do.

-And a collar. -Yeah.

And I haven't even started on the shirt yet.

I wasn't expecting to run into

Some of the obstacles that I had run into.

So I'm really concerned

That I'm not even gonna have enough time

To do the shirt.

[Tim] good morning, designers.

I am sending in your models.

You will have two hours

To send them to the tresemme hair salon

And the l'oreal paris makeup room.

I know you're already using the bluefly.com wall,

Because most of it's gone.

[Christian] I was gonna put this on,

And then, um, we'll try everything on.

But as you can see, I finished the vest.

Ooh, the vest looks good.

-Turned out nice, right? -I like it.

[Kit] I feel great that I have

Three pieces and that my look came together

The way it was in my head.

You look perfect in it!

They feel like they're on?

[Ricky] when the model arrives,

I asked him, "can you sew buttons?"

He's like, "yeah, no problem.

I don't know what I did wrong.

[Sweet p] I put the shirt on,

And I was horrified.

I can't even button it.

The neck is too big.

It's a [bleep]ing nightmare.

What would you do?

Coursing through my veins right now,

As we are frenetically running around

Trying to get our work done.

[Ricky] I had a lot to do.

And I bit off a lot more than I could chew.

So I used pins to hem his jacket

And his sleeve hem.

I don't know what to do about this.

[Sweet p] it's not working at all.

And I'm really freaked out.

How do I style it to make it

Look presentable?

Mine's a problem.

Everybody else is good.

This is not good for me.

[Carmen] I had my model try on the pants,

And I'm terrified about the crotch.

The fit was just, like, beyond horrible.

Carmen, you have two minutes.

[Tim] I'm worried.

-You've gotta go, go, go. -Okay.

Do me a favor-- there's some blue material

On the table in there.

Bring that blue material here.

I didn't even have time to do my shirt.

The fabric that I was gonna use for the shirt

I cut a large, uh, piece of it out

To drape it around his neck

For kind of like a shawl collar effect.

[Christian] I think this challenge

Is gonna be so difficult to judge.

Because there's gonna be so many things

That are jacked up.

[Tim] this is it.

The crotch on the pants is insane.

You put too much on your plate.

It's just messy.

Welcome to the runway.

As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,

And the next day,

You're out.

For this challenge, you had to design

An outfit for today show correspondent tiki barber.

You had $150 and two days to finish his look.

Let's meet the judges.

Good to see you all again.

We will score your designs

As they come down the runway.

One of you will be named the winner,

And one of you will be out.

Let's start the show.

[Jillian] I have never done menswear.

I really felt like if I can do this,

I can do anything.

I was very proud of my work.

[Carmen] when I saw my look coming down the runway,

I did not feel good at all,

Because there is no shirt.

That is not a representation at all

Of who I am as a designer.

[Christian] in all honesty,

It was the most interesting.

My model looked good in it.

I liked it a lot.

[Kit] I feel pretty confident,

Because my garment's finished.

It's three pieces.

The color palette is nice.

And it's definitely tv friendly.

[Rami] I'm very happy.

I think my look is a little bit less formal,

More hip and somewhat youthful.

I think it's a great menswear look.

[Sweet p] this is the worst thing I've ever made.

He looks good in the pant.

But it looks like the shirt was made by a kindergartener.

I'm embarrassed in front of my peers.

[Steven] I think the outfit

Is very much in line with what tiki asked for.

It's more conservative.

I can see him wearing it.

It's not loud, but it's there.

What is your jacket made of?

My jacket is made out of fleece.

[Michael] I think you were smart

Picking that navy fleece.

'Cause if that wasn't a navy fleece,

Like, gimme a xanax, I'm asleep.

I like the overall presentation.

And I think you did well.

[Tiki] I thought it was messy.

It's conservative, yet it has style.

It's just messy.

[Heidi] what I don't understand,

How on earth you can let your model

Walk down the runway with this mess around the neck?

Could you fold it and show us really what it does?

No, it is completely messed up.

Well, what happened?

The funny thing is the tie, for the crazy proportion of it,

You sewed it well.

And I never made a tie in my life.

Well, if a guy was 7'3",

It would be a fabulous tie for him.

Unfortunately, I'm 5'9".

The trousers fit him very nicely.

I think the shirt is a classic shirt

With a little bit of a twist.

I like the bias on the pocket,

And the placket looks really nice.

[Tiki] it was simple,

But the textures, I love.

It's not loud in any kind of way.

I did think for a second,

"Oh, too many stripes. Stripes, stripes, stripes."

But, um...you know,

I think the stripe in the pant is subtle.

So it works for me.

This outfit looks great to me.

By making it in fleece.

So it kinda had a little bit of this cardigan attitude

Without looking like grandpa.

It was unique.

I thought it was intentionally ugly.

Gone totally wrong.

There was no-- there was no concept.

The jacket was cropped.

[Michael] and not finished.

Pants that didn't fit.

Even if the trousers wouldn't have been

For, like a boogie nights star,

And, like, she had time to make the shirt,
