I was surprised that ricky

I'm happy that I dodged that b*llet.

I so do not feel ready to go.

[Chris] I think a lot of the designers are kind of freaking out.

But I'm used to the moment that comes

When you have to do it.

It's been a dream for me

To be a designer since probably the age of five.

So this is rooted on a much deeper level.

I came here to show in fashion week.

And I'm hopeful that I get there.

[Rami] we arrive in front of the metropolitan museum of art.

I've never been to it, so it's quite exciting.

Designers, welcome

To the metropolitan museum of art,

One of the premier

Arts and cultural institutions in the world.

Follow me inside,

And I'll tell you about your next challenge.

The first thing I notice walking in--

It's huge.

[Chris] it was such a great privilege

To be part of the final five

In the metropolitan museum of art

With no one else there.

[Jillian] there's nothing more phenomenal and inspiring

In this country.

Designers, throughout time,

Art has served as a critical

And essential inspiration for fashion.

For your next challenge,

You will choose a work of art

To serve as the inspiration

For a look of your choice.

[Rami] I'm extremely happy.

This is every designer's dream.

[Jillian] I love this.

That's amazing--what more could any of us ask for?

It's just about artwork.

The met contains 5,000 years of art.

And it's one of the largest museums in the world.

So we've narrowed the galleries from which

You will choose your inspiration to three.

The greek and roman sculpture courtyard--

Where we are now--

The european painting wing,

And the temple of dendur.

You will have 45 minutes to seek your inspiration.

And I have cameras

For each of you to record

The source of your inspiration.

Your 45 minutes will begin now.

Let's go. Okay?

[Rami] the first room

Is the roman and greek sculptures gallery.

And nothing could've been better for me.

[Digital camera whirring]

Let's face it.

Rami is going to be choosing this section.

[Laughing] there is no way he's not making something grecian and draped.

[Rami] there were so many things I was in love with.

But the statue of aphrodite was sort of like

A soul mate situation for me.

It was like instantly meeting my match.

After that, we headed

To the european painting gallery.

And of course, for me, that was the most exciting part.

Just because I love european art.

I'm really inspired by

This beautiful spanish military painting.

There's so many amazing paintings in there.

And there's actual clothing on people.

[Giggles]

[Gasps] oh.

[Sweet p] there was no one there.

And it was so cool.

I probably could've touched a painting.

But I didn't.

[Christian] where to next?

The temple of dendur

Is an egyptian temple that was lifted from egypt

And put in the metropolitan museum of art.

It's incredible.

It's almost like you're looking at a movie set,

But it's real.

Look it, joan rivers

Carved her initials in here

When she was a little girl.

That's fierce.

[Chris's laugh echoing loudly]

[Stifling laugh] oops.

-We're very lucky, all of us. -[Whispering] I know.

I think it was more the experience

Of being in the room that was inspiring.

It was almost spiritual.

[Tim] all right, everybody.

Our time is up at the met.

But what an experience.

Let's head back to parsons, all right?

I took, like, 238 pictures.

Now I wanna just pick something that I like,

Focus on it, and get to work.

[Christian] it's pretty amazing.

[Rami] hopefully there are no surprises.

Of the works of art, okay?

You have one hour to sketch.

And then we're going to have half an hour at mood,

Where you will have a budget of $300.

You have two days for this challenge.

And the styling and makeup will be critical elements

In the evaluation

Of this challenge, all right?

I'm doing like a female version of it.

I chose this fabulous spanish military-inspired

Almost zorro-like painting.

I didn't want it to be costumey, necessarily.

I wanted it to be more high fashion, avant-garde.

What one are you using?

Peacock.

[Chris] peacock?

I was thinking of that one.

I love it.

[Printer whirring]

[Rami] I don't feel shameful about choosing aphrodite.

I connected with the grecian draping

Because I know that that is something

I'm extremely passionate about.

And this is what I do.

All right, designers.

You ready to go shopping?

My inspiration is a peacock.

I found a beautiful purple, a teal,

And a rusty red

That I think are just gonna be fantastic.

I put down that boning somewhere--

-It's in your hand. -Oh! [Laughs]

[Christian] oh, my god, I need so much stuff.

I needed like ten yards of organza in white.

And I needed about 15 yards of cotton.

Can I have whatever you can give me on that roll?

I want to wow them.

I don't want to be safe at all.

I think that this painting in particular,

Master of the argonauts,

With the armor that they used to wear

During the fight, was inspiring.

I'm trying to express a certain edgy side

Of myself.

It's gonna have a whole, like,

Corseted dress thing out of the oyster stuff.

Mm-hmm.

The colors are pretty.

The painting that I chose as my inspiration

Is a portrait

Of an 18th century noblewoman.

And I wanted to do a really super modern

Couture version of that idea.

Honey.

Is there any fabric left at mood?

[Laughs] yeah.

We all have in the back of our heads

That two people are going home.

So I think that people

Are feeling the need to, like,

Overdesign and add more pieces

And who has the biggest collar and the biggest sleeve

Is probably gonna get the attention.

That'll give it some pouf.

[Chris] yeah, it will.

It's not always to me about who's the loudest.

I'm not here to make noise.

I'm here to make beautiful work.

It's creepy.

I know.

[Jillian] are you making a collection, honestly?

It was very similar to the dress

That me and him already created.

So it was a little weird.

And work it into the eye.

I do think a beautiful compliment to her skin tone

The point here is to really make her look

Warrior, joan of arc,

Not overly feminine.

For about three years.

And I definitely think that that helped me grow the most.

I know I'm the youngest designer,

But truthfully, like, I think I have

The most cohesive ideas out of everyone.

And legendary designer roberto cavalli.

We will score your designs

As they come down the runway.

Let's start the show.

[Chris] I was just so excited,

Because she looked kind of like some couture cinderella.

And it looked really elegant and, you know, expensive.

[Christian] the outfit was so hot.

I know it was really avant-garde and kind of over the top.

But for the runway, for a show,

It was perfect.

It was fabulous.

I loved every second of it.

[Rami] I'm pretty confident about the way sam looks.

The dress fits perfectly on her.

I'm passionate about draping.

But it could go either way for me,

Considering that the judges want to see a variety of things.

[Sweet p] I liked the design of the dress.

I feel like I'm a good designer.

Good at merchandising. I understand what sells.

I thought it looked great on her.

[Jillian] I think I did a good job with mine.

There were definitely little issues here and there.

But I don't see those anymore.

I represented myself the way I wanted to.

[Heidi] we've scored your designs.

Okay, I would like to start with christian.

Well, I actually chose a spanish painting.

A lot of my work has been a play on masculine and feminine.

I tried to create as many pieces

That could be worn different ways.

What's going on under the blouse?

Um, actually, you could completely remove this

Into the blouse.

Thank you very much.

You really...

Think about the show.

And you have the ability to also

Think practically.

I think it's super, super, super chic.

Yay. Thank you.

Chris. Tell us about your design.

My design is based on an 18th century painting

Of a french noblewoman.

And I wanted to do a kind of modern couture version.

That's-- that's what I love.

Well, certainly you understand drama.

But I will say

It's a little reminiscent

Of what we already saw from you with the shoulderpiece.

[Heidi] I was thinking the same thing.

You kind of forget how beautiful the dress really is

When you've seen it before.

It's kind of the way that I wanted to, uh,

Reinterpret the big, pewter-colored bow

On the front of her dress.

If you take that piece out,

It would've still been beautiful.

And I'm sure that you have other tricks

Up your sleeve.

-Sure. -It's not just this one.

Right.

And that's what I wanted to see.

Okay.

Jillian.

Um, my inspiration was the master of the argonauts.

I felt like I could interpret in a way

That was very modern.

I love your interpretation of this.

Mm-hmm.

You keep me surprised.

-And in a good way. -Okay.

Well, that would be an honor. Thank you.

As soon as she opened the coat and it was gold inside,

I was like, woo-hoo!

Boom.

I was like, wow.

You know, you're giving a nod to the painting,

But I don't think it at all looks like a costume.

I think the dress

Does great things for her body.

You know, and that's what clothes

Are supposed to do.

Okay, sweet p.

I was immediately grabbed

By this dutch painting called peacocks.

It looks like a print to me when I look at it.

[Michael] I think it's a nice dress. Wearable.

Flattering.

You know, but,

It's show.

You know? It's a show.

This dress is the one that you have in the showroom

To sell?

You do make a lot

-Of sweet daytime-- -wearable.

[Heidi] dresses, wearable dresses.

I know you know how to make commercial clothes.

I need to see the next thing.

[Heidi] and rami.

Tell us about your design.

I found much beauty in the sculptures

That pretty much resembled movement

And flow, and I picked one

That had an ease

About the drape in it.

Because I am very passionate about draping.

I just feel

Passionate about the subject,

And it was presented to me in this challenge.

Sometimes an idea can be

Interesting without having to be screaming out loud.

I know you're talented.

I know you have great taste.

And I expect more from you.

You know how to make a dress that many women

Would like to wear.

I would. I like it.

-I mean, come on. -That's the first thing I thought.

We always know

It's going to be beautiful,

So what did we think of today's show?

I think that we saw

Some pretty wonderful-looking clothes,

And some that were...

Not as extravagant

And imaginative as I would've liked to have seen.

What did you guys think about jillian's?

[Heidi] yeah, it was beautiful.

[Michael] the back was beautiful.

[Roberto] yeah, it was nice.

[Michael] I think her clothes are impeccable.

I've been surprised by her designs.

She's ballsy.

You know, she's all quiet,

But her pieces are not quiet.

She goes, "pow, here it is."

All right, let's go to christian.

He understands how to make

Clothes that are emotional

In a fashion show that can be taken apart

And work in real life.

-He delivered. -[Heidi] yeah.

He delivered.

And then there is sweet p.

Certainly the plus with her clothes--

They're the kind of dresses and the kind of clothes that,

You know, they're flattering, they're wearable.

And it's more a commercial vision

That she has, which is fine.

Perfectly fine.

There's a place for that, of course.

But that doesn't make

For fashion.

Chris.

He made a wrong choice,

Taking something that memorable and doing it twice.

But I will say that that looked like a couture dress.

But yet again,

I do think that he played it safe.

But I do have to say,

He has drama in his blood.

There is undeniably that factor.

He's a showman. He's a real showman.

I mean, our taste

Or not our taste, he will put on a show.

Totally.

Rami.

He technically is a very good designer.

Technically, he's very, very, good.

[Nina] yes, but he doesn't want to take any risks.

Well, you don't get ahead if you don't take risks.

I like his work. I think it's sophisticated.

It's well done.

I just think that

I want him to show me

Something else that he can do.

[Michael] I agree with nina.

He's a smart, driven designer

Who is passionate about fashion.

And those are all the things that you have to be.

This is a really tough decision.
