The other, and I think it's fun

To get to work on a challenge

The relationship that music has to fashion

In a very personal way.

And after all, you'll be modeling these looks

Your genre is pop.

Oh, my gosh.

I think pop is really cheesy,

So I was not excited about it.

It's gonna be

Really scary for jerell to create this look for me.

Suede,

My biggest fear was doing menswear.

So now, after I realized, okay, I'm designing for suede,

It hits me that I actually have to make a menswear punk outfit,

And it's, like, who would love to be me right now?

I don't think anybody would.

Your genre is...

Country.

Just gets better and better.



You have hip-hop.

Kenley was chosen to design for me

A hip-hop look.

So jerell,

And suede's got to work that into my look.

He's probably gonna make me something pretty cool.

I think it actually lends itself to his--his eye.

So you have an hour to meet.

Afterwards, we'll be going shopping at mood

A top, and a high-waisted jean.

And this is the first time

I'm making pants on project runway.

It's just not my thing.

So I'm a little nervous.

So we're not gonna tell her,

We're just gonna let her believe that's hip-hop.

I think kenley might be in a little bit of trouble.

I just really don't think that there's anything hip-hop

In kenley's bag of '50s-style dresses.

If you go too stereotypical punk--

I mean, in a way you wanna annihilate it.

This is looking very basic.

I go in the bathroom, and I start bleaching the sneakers,

And I also decided to start bleaching my pants.

That is so strong.

We asked the designers to make outfits for each other,

Using a musical style as their inspiration.

They're modeling the looks today,

And I wanted us to be surprised.

Every element incorporated into it that needs to be there.

It is very sophisticated,

And I love it.

She definitely sold it.

She looks like the lead singer of the pu-dussy cat dolls.

I mean, you'd have to be deaf, dumb, and blind

To not know that she's pop.

[Hip-hop music]

She really looked like a big fat poser.

Hip-hop-- it's in the attitude,

And leanne does not have that.

He's totally gone.

Suede doesn't even exist.

This persona just took over,

Couldn't have done any better.

I think it definitely reads rock 'n' roll.

Tell us about suede's look.

Well, his look is punk, if you didn't know.

This is all, actually, suede.

With the pant, went for like a metallic denim.

And kinda tried to distress it a lot

With just tearing it up and bleaching.

And that's the look.

I think the outfit has a lot of energy.

It's obvious you had a real perspective on it.

I think it's right on the money.

I think he looks like marilyn manson.

These pants fit him very well.

And I like the treatment that you gave them,

The punk aspect of them,

It's a good silhouette on him.

Forget everything else.

Well, jerell's musical persona was rock 'n' roll.

And, um, he needed something that was very comfortable

On the stage,

And, um, he can definitely hop right off stage

And head out to a party in it.

Jerell, what is rock 'n' roll to you?

I thought, okay, maybe a little bit of like aerosmith

Or something like that.

I'm really happy with, like, the color palette

And the vest, I think it's kinda cool, yeah.

I think the vest is very cool.

The pants quite honestly, to me,

They're a little expected.

You know, I don't know that they're enough.

I disagree. They're--they're--

I mean, maybe you need to see 'em up closer,

But there's a lot of work.

They're really, really beautiful.



For photographs, you know, up close.

Subtlety really doesn't work for the stage.

Plus, I think that it needed more accessories.



-You had a little more... -Oomph.

Yeah, it's missing a little more drama.

Like jerell.

Jerell, you designed for kenley.

Well, kenley's genre is pop.

And I wanted to sexy her up.

So it was all about just taking bits from like britney spears,

From like the pussycat dolls,

And really creating something that is gonna read

Way up in the nosebleed seats.

Kenley, tell us what is pop to you.

This is totally pop.

I like it.

If I was a pop star, I would wear it.

'Cause sex sells.



Britney as a brunette.

I love it.

I love the fact that, you know,

She's exposed, but she's not too naked.

And I love the--the silver, you know--

Cups.

Yeah, the silver cups.

I would have liked to have supported them

A little bit more.

They look supported, you know.

I was looking at it, and I was saying to myself,

I like it, but I wish I saw more skin.

And then, when you took the vest off...

To do something that a woman today

In hip-hop would want to wear.

This to me is what I get is hip-hop,

But in a classy, expensive, sort of way.

What happened to the pants?

What do you mean?

These are probably the most unflattering pants

I've ever seen in my life.

I just think the high-waisted jeans are just...

A problem.



As an overall look, does this read hip-hop to you?

No.

I didn't wanna put oversized pants on her

With a backward--

I'm not--oh--

I didn't want to make her look like a fool.

No, no, no, no.

I wanted her to be stylish and fashion-forward.

I just don't know that she looks like

She's a part of the culture.

I think it doesn't make the point

As readily as the other outfits.

All right.

Nothing that she's wearing

Looks extravagantly luxurious

Without being garish.

Well, I can make something look luxury

In a few days, not one day.

Well, yes, but everybody's was hard, kenley.

You're not alone in this.

Everybody's was hard.

Leanne, your client was korto,

And I want to ask korto to please move next to you

So you can talk about what you've designed for her.

My design was based off the genre of country music.

I wanted to kinda infuse vintage dolly parton

With kind of a modern chic, glamorous look,

And I think that the gold touches

Here and there just add a nice

Subtle shimmer to it.

Korto, what does country mean to you?

I wanted to do something that was a little old school,

Like loretta lynn or tammy wynette,

But also to have some elegance to it.

I think the choice of color is fantastic.

But I would have liked to see a little more glamour,

A little more sophistication.

And I think it's from the waist down that it's really missing.



I mean, when you were walking,

It was very nice.

I think it's very subtle.

You know, if I saw you on an elevator

And I didn't see your boots,

I'm not sure if I would know that that's a country outfit.

I think it's a great silhouette,

But you coulda just notched her up

Without going trite.

So how did you guys think they did with this challenge?

It was mixed.



Did turn them into other people,

But I think the results,

As far as some of the actual designing...

You know, a little spotty.

That we did like.

Jerell.

Talk about a transformation.

All of us knew the minute she turned the corner

That this was pop.



There was another chapter, you know, to the book.

I think that he made it revealing

Without it looking trashy.

Another designer that we liked was korto.

She designed for suede,

And he was very obviously punk.

I thought what was kinda cool--
