Honestly, kenley probably should have been eliminated

She's been disrespectful to all of us.

She's just been outright rude.



I think that she did a little bit of sabotage

In the last challenge

When she didn't sell my outfit on the runway.

She made it look like a fool's outfit.

I'm not interested in even trying to pretend

Like I like her.

I ain't even going to smile today.

I'm fine being the only guy standing.

I intend to be the only designer standing

At the end of this thing.

I am nervous.

I had a hard time in the last challenge,

So I'm hoping that the challenge is gonna be something

That I usually do.



I'm thinking it's evening, weddings--

Something in that arena.



And it's got to be made at a gristedes.

Who told you?

[Laughter]



And we turn into the botanical gardens.

I'm thinking maybe we might go do something

With plants.

I'm not really quite sure what it is, though, yet.



As we walk into the botanical garden,

We see all these beautiful plants and trees.





Yeah, it's beautiful.

It's huge, and there's crazy, bright, vibrant colors

All around,

And we all feel like we're in wizard of oz.



It's therapeutic unless you're joan crawford

And a control freak,

And you don't want the bloom to fade.

When we walk up, we see a familiar face.

-Don't be afraid. -How are you?





Designers, I am thrilled to introduce collier strong,

Consulting makeup artist for l'oreal paris,

Who's here to tell you about your challenge.

We're here at one of my favorite places in the city,

The new york botanical garden.

I gain inspiration

From the color, the texture, the combination of the two,

And I use that in l'oreal's hip

And fashion-forward makeup line.

For this challenge, we want you to create

An evening gown, using our inspiration,

Nature, as your muse.

I can't wait to just pick a flower that's beautiful

And make it into this beautiful evening look.

There are cameras for each of you

To record the sources

Of your inspiration.

You have an hour to explore

These incredibly beautiful gardens,

And then we're going back to parsons.

When tim says go, we grab our cameras

And walk around this amazing space,

Snapping away.

I love this deep plum.

I take inspiration from everything in life.

And nature plays a large role in what I do.

There's this one rose in particular

That had, like, all these deep purples and reds,

But like, all in one cluster.

It was really beautiful.

[Bees buzzing]

There's all kinds of bees flying around everywhere.

Okay. [Laughs]

And one almost stings me.

I see some beautiful lavender flowers.

And I'm really drawn to that petal shape.

-Beautiful, right? -[Leanne] yeah, it's so pretty.

It reminds me a lot of portland.

I love being in the garden.

It kind of reminds me

Of the garden my mom used to plant

When we lived in africa.

So a lot of the plants that I saw were familiar.

I think I'm gonna win this one for my mama.

This is for her love.

Designers, you have five minutes remaining, okay?



Bright, beautiful, crazy colors.

And these colors come from flowers.

There's a lot of pretty fuchsias and purples.

This challenge is perfect for me.

To serve as the inspiration for this evening gown.

Then we're going shopping at mood

I'm like, wow, I took 135 pictures.

So choosing was a little tough.

That one or that one?

'Cause I think this is my color story.

I choose this picture of the roses

Because it's got the color palette that I want.

I don't want to go too simple

Because we really have to bring it.

We have no excuses, so I'm gonna go

With the orange and yellow-textured flamenco flower.

I wanna make it look like this.

I really want to do this crazy textured gown,

As long as I can find the fabric that I want.



We're off to mood.

Of this lavender plant.

So I'm getting lavender blue fabric.

Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh.

That is so freaking awesome.

I found this fuchsia snakeskin-textured kind

Of scaly-looking fabric that's completely the picture.

Love that.

Is that green fabric yours over there?

I find this lemony yellowish green kind of sequence,

But tim has me rethinking it

'Cause it's such a thin line between luxury and low-class.

So I ended up going with these shades of purple

And maroon.

I have no background making evening wear,

So it's a lot of pressure on this ball gown.

My picture just shows this beautiful flower,

And I got the beaded fabric.

This is a very three-dimensional plant.

I usually don't use lace at all,

So I'm just designing as I go.

Really, I have no clue what I'm doing right now.

I hate being in the early stages.



I just can't wait to make

A little progress on this thing.

I like to let the fabrics inspire

What's going to get created.

So this garment told me to play

With these different shades of purple and plum and maroon.

It's just about figuring out the right way to use them.

I'm not going for a literal read,

But you will be able to look at the image I've snapped,

And you will see it in the garment.

I want to carry out this tiered effect on my dress.

Which is very organic and certainly fits

A lavender plant.

Did I have another mood bag?



Where's my tulle?

You think you left it at mood?

Okay, I wanna k*ll myself.

I'm missing my tulle.

The bottom of the skirt needs to be big,

And I need the tulle to achieve that.

I don't really know what I'm gonna do.

I gotta move on, so I'm using drafting paper.

But right now,

I'm freaking out.

I do have tulle that I'm not gonna use,

But kenley is just a one-trick pony,

And I refuse to assist her in any way.

Probably not using mine either.

Not getting my tulle.

When you have an ugly attitude, it just makes you ugly.

And it makes everything you make ugly.

And feminine, even though it's strong.

This is my inspiration.

I would really like to pick up some of these colors.

We should use, like, the green in the eye

And then the purple on the lip.

I'm going for this bronze goddess look.

Like make her really bronze, make her really glowy,

Use golds and, like, brighten her eyes.

They're looking more like fish scales

Because of the palette that I took, the three colors

That are very vivid in the picture.

I'm just praying that they'll just love the silhouette

So much that they won't notice the janky beadwork.



The lavender is recreated

Out of these soft, sculptural pleats.

Just the whole flow and movement

Of the lavender blowing in the wind.

It absolutely does show the judges

Why I should be going to bryant park.



In my gown, and I think it really reads true

To my inspiration image from the botanical gardens.

I'm really happy with the way the gown turned out.



Of my gown looks exactly like my picture.

I feel really good about my dress.

I really feel like I am going to make it to bryant park.

Okay, I would like to start with leanne.

I was inspired

By this beautiful lavender plant.

I wanted to recreate the structure

Of a lavender plant.

And I formed

This sculptural, but very soft and organic feeling,

And I love it.

I like the balance between the structured and the softness,

And I think you did a great job with the bodice,

That's hard to do.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see you work

With something soft.

It's very harmonious and very feminine.

I'm a little concerned about a few details

That I see.

Can I have her turn around?

Yeah, there seems to be

A problem here with her bustle.



Quite frankly, is distracting.

It looks like a bolt of fabric

Just got kinda thrown in the back of the dress.



A little more work,

But all in all, it's a very, very pretty dress.

-Korto. -The inspiration was called the flamenco flower.

The flowers had a lot of texture in it.

It was three-dimensional.

And it was just really simple and pretty.

And I just loved the colors.

I wanted to do something bright and vivid.

Well, on the plus side, it's made beautifully.

The shape is very flattering on her.

On the down side to me,

I mean, it's really not a sophisticated dress.

I think it looks like a beauty pageant.



I wrote "pageant."

I cannot see someone today

Wearing a dress that is like that

And be fashion-forward.



To a fabric choice

That I'm questioning.



Of the color choice, of the lace,

Of the beading--

It's just very gilded, overworked,

And it doesn't come off as sophisticated.

And I also don't see much

Of korto in here.

This is all me.

This is me, and this is classic.



In an effort to impress us,

You went a little too far.

Jerell.

In the rose garden, there was this cluster of roses

On one bush.

There was, like, all these beautiful shades

Of like plum and purple and, um,

That was really kind of the inspiration for it.

I love what it does up here,

Even though I kind of want to, yeh,

-Yank it up once. -So does she.

[Laughter]

This is the most youthful of all of them,

But I do see that you had

Technical problems with it,

And it looks a little messy.

It's off, but it's off in an interesting way

That kind of intrigues me.

But, you know, here you have

A very elegant dress, and then, all of a sudden,

It's hack 'n' sew.

Well, it all came down to like, you know, time.

If you had more time, so what--what exactly

Would you have done?

I would have actually like lined all of this

And had it, like, done kind of attached into itself

So it would have more of a billowy effect.

So it definitely would have read a lot cleaner.

But you know, you keep doing this.

And it makes me nervous.

Kenley.

Um, I took a picture of these really cool leaves.

They almost looked scaly, so I wanted to do something

Textured and scaly

And cool and edgy, not a typical gown.

And I love it.

I think I achieved exactly what I wanted to achieve.

It doesn't feel very organic.



It looks like a reptile.

-[Laughs] -but not in a cool way.

It's just the whole thing

Is kind of creepy.



Because when I hear gown, I think ugh, old.

But she looks old.

This girl does not look

Young, hip, or cool at all.

I really wanted to stray away from typical and cliche.

I wrote "cliche."

It is not! A cliche gown!

And the petals, I have to say,

They don't look very elegant either.

I wasn't going for elegance, heidi.



Is that you get very defensive.

It's almost like you know too much.

It is a little bit annoying, the attitude, I have to agree.

Like, like right now,

-What you do right now. -What?

I mean, if you don't feel it, then I don't know.

When you come off very kind of, like, flippant

And smug, and it kind of makes us kind of feel like,

Well, does she really give a damn?

-Is she so c*ck? -No, I do.

Let's be honest.

You wouldn't be standing here if we didn't like what you do.

You know, we're fans.

We want it to be fabulous, that's all.



I wanna ask each of you the same question.

I'm gonna start with jerell.

Jerell, why should you move forward to fashion week?

And which two designers do you want to have come with you?

This is my dream.

This is, like, so important to me.

And I feel like I've shown

Consistently my point of view,

And, um, I just, you know, with this dress--

This is my 12th look I've had the opportunity to show,

And I would just love to show more.

As to the second part

Of that question,

I think that kenley is an amazing designer,

But I think the '50s kind of silhouettes are--

I feel like we've seen it before, and I think

You put that on the runway of bryant park,

It's gonna just be like--

That's not all I do. Clearly.

I could--i mean, I'm sorry, I'm not trying to throw you

Under the bus, booboo, but they asked me which two designers.

And honestly, I feel like--

But they didn't want you to elaborate on why.

I think we're gonna get to you in just a second.

So at that point, you can start speaking.

Um...

Yeah, so korto and leanne

And jerell at the tents

Is what I'm trying to say.

At the tents.

Leanne, same question to you.

I'm not gonna do a boring show.

And I want this.

The other two that I feel should accompany me--

It's clear-cut for me.

Jerell and korto,

Those two are, I feel, on the same level as me.

And I keep seeing the same shapes

From kenley.

I'm married, I have a child,

But I still have my dream, and I know that

If I get the chance to go to bryant park,

You will see parts of my culture in there,

My fabric choices, and you will see

Who I really am and really just wow you.

And I would love to take jerell and leanne with me,

Not just because of what they do,

But because of who they are as people.

Kenley, why should you move forward to fashion week?

Well, now that I've just been trashed,

Um, I think that I take

The most risks here, and I do it well.

I do it with a sophistication,

And I'm gonna put a show on at bryant park,

And I'm gonna do a great job of it.

As far as arguing with people,

I feel like I've been fighting my way through life,

You know, so it's a force of habit.

So I'm really-- I truly apologize

To everyone.

I mean, I grew up tough,

I've fought my way through life, and that's just me.

So who would you take with you, kenley?

I think leanne and jerell should be there.

I don't think classic puts on a show.

And people want to see a show at bryant park.

In a more feminine hand

Really helped her.

The thing I found interesting about her

Is I could see that was her dress

By looking at her,

And so she definitely has a signature,

Which intrigues me, and I would

Want to see more.

I will say, though, I think she spends so much time

You know, she definitely has that flirty, '50s kind of thing,

But then all of a sudden, today,

That total loss of taste.

I couldn't see anything in what you're telling me

I'm like, where were they?

-Ken-- -let's talk about her attitude first.

Kenley's attitude is just--

I gotta tell you, forget what her clothes look like,

With an attitude like that--

Imagine her response to, if a buyer says,

What'll she do? Take a knife out and k*ll them?
