This is kind of like the victorian,

Kind of queen-structured.

I guess I'm perplexed how this rope

Strangles the organic nature of what's happening here.

For me, it begs the question, why this rope at all?

It looks arbitrary. It looks contrived.



I'm sorry.

I do. So I'm leaving it.

My decision are final,

And I'm done with it.

Your signature model is?

Topacio is wearing the wedding dress.

Or the wedding dress, but I love my wedding dress.

This is where editing becomes very, very challenging.

Yeah, it does.

Do I keep my wedding dress

And just be hard-headed and say, "you know what,

I love it. I don't care if you like it"?

I think at the end of the day, we just have to do things

That we just love and feel in our gut

And just take it.

I have to stand by this collection and love it.

You just have to think about this.

So what do you envision going before the judges?

I just can't decide

And I still have another piece to edit out.

My least favorite,

It's this with a pair of pants

That still needs some more finishing.

It's my only pair of pants

That I have in the collection.

I mean, I want to encourage you to have a pant.

Yeah, they need more work.



And a lot left for me to figure out.

It needs to be perfect.

And, you know, I've got some more work to do

In order to get it perfect.

Well, I mean, they liked yours overall.

Not so much over here.

I did decide to chuck the wedding dress.

The judges felt it was over-designed.

I just don't want no drama.

Along with the wedding dress, I decided on taking

Two dresses out of the collection

Because I've listened to what they've said

About over-designing.

I don't want to be in that conversation

With nina and heidi again.

So I'm gonna make two new looks.



That she is making

Two new pieces for her line.

Kenley, since you're almost done,

Why don't you whip up my other dress for me?

To discuss our makeup looks.

Tell me the inspiration.

The inspiration for my line was definitely nature.

So really earth tone eye.



Have a variety of different nationalities.

So it's really important to me

That everyone looks consistent.

I like where you're going with that.

I'm talking cherry red lips.

And I want the models to all look

Like porcelain dolls.

My inspiration is waves.

It's got the colors of the ocean.

I want something looking really modern.

That's what my collection is all about.

About it because I just want to finalize everything.

This is the biggest day of my life.

I'm about to show the world

Who I am as a designer.

Last year,

I snuck into the tents, so--

And got kicked out right away.

It is an amazing feeling

That I'm actually gonna show at bryant park.



For this moment for so long.



Today is like our coming out ceremonies.

So you want them to love you.

I do feel like I deserve to win.

I'm just gonna go in there and show what I show

And know that what I can do, none of these girls can do.

It's been a dream of mine since I was 12 years old.

And I'm gonna show my collection here this morning.

It's a long runway.

You know, my parents will be able to see

How hard I've been working...

These past three years,

Where they haven't been really a part of my life at all.

My dad had a lot of influence

In my collection,

And I think he's gonna think that's rad as hell

And love it.

So I had to tuck it up in the back

And also put some double-stick tape

To make sure it doesn't fall down.

I'm glad I added these two pieces.

One is a short look on amanda.

And the other's my long piece on elise.

I see the color story.

I see how the pieces relate to each other.

Visually, it's beautiful.



I think my girls look amazing.

I think I'm gonna win this.



I'm really proud of what I've accomplished.

I am utterly exhausted, but my heart is pounding.

This is it. This is my big moment.

A year of the women.



Was so palpable for each of them.

And they're all very clear points of view.

There's no hesitation.

They have their own identity.

And I think that it was exciting to see

That very personal expression.

I thought they did a great job.

Michael, what did you think of kenley's fashion show today?

I thought it was full of charm.

It had a lot of personality and a lot of spirit.

Um, I was curious. The painting.

Did you do all that yourself?

Well, that's pretty remarkable, so i--

My hat's off to you.

And I also loved when you played with separates,

But still maintained your look.

You had a fabulous blouse with a little skirt.

I thought those two pieces were really great.

I love your concept.

I love your hand-painting and impeccable construction.

And you certainly have

A profound point of view.



It had wonderful spirit.

The only problem that I have, to be honest--

That dress that you had with the flowers,

It reminds me very much

Of balenciaga collection.



I heard people actually say that today.

I don't know.

Could I just tell you one thing?

It is necessary

To know what's going on.



All those fashion editors that are watching your show--

-They do know. -They do know.

At least four times, you guys have told me that.

And yeah, I realize now, maybe I need to do some research.

Korto.

I think that you found a way to take

Your heritage and your background

And inject it into the clothes

Without it becoming a costume.

This green dress that we're looking at here

Is definitely my favorite piece you showed.

I love the dress. I think it's great.

Your collection looked effortlessly cohesive.

I think you do phenomenal color.

I think that dress is extraordinary.

It would appeal to many women.



You hit a bull's-eye

With the short taupe dress

With the pleating detail.

And it surprised me. I hadn't seen it walk.

I thought it was absolutely sublime on the runway.

Everyone can see how much work

You put into each and every piece.

But some of the pieces do look overworked to me.

That there are too many ideas in one garment.



In going overboard with the decoration.

And it had stretched about two sizes larger,

So we had to do a last minute switch-up.

But so much of what you showed, the workmanship looked divine.

I just thought that was a smashing, smart, fantastic look.



The fact that you showed us shorts,

Skirts,

Pants,

Jackets,

I think that it all did work together very nicely.

I feel like I've seen things

In your line that I have not seen before,

Like these petals.

But there were a lot of them.



That you're gonna be known as the queen of the petals.

You're gonna be "petals" marshall,

Which sounds like a stripper,

Not a designer.

That it was too much of a one note.

If you had to do 40 looks,

How would you evolve this?

It is a concern of mine.



Why do you deserve to be the winner of project runway?

It's been a long journey here.

And to show at bryant park,

It was amazing.

And it showed to me that I am capable

Of doing it, that I am worthy of it.

And there's just so much more that can come out of me,

And I would love this opportunity

To be able to show that.

Leanne, why do you deserve to be

The winner of project runway?

I'm extremely innovative.

I'm doing new things in fashion.

Half of my collection was of sustainable textiles.

I really need to take it to the next level,

And I possess the talent and the ambition to do that.



I know that I have it in me,

And I can take this far.

I moved to new york a few years ago

With a lot of imagination and a lot of personality,

Good or bad,

But...

This is something I'm very passionate about.

And that I'm good at.

We could see that all of you are very passionate about it.



Can't do it otherwise.

What did we think about kenley?

Well, there was certainly cohesion.

And it was superbly ex*cuted.



They looked perfect.

It's almost couture-like.

She does have ideas,

And I loved that she hand-painted everything.



That you don't cross that step

Where it turns

Into lacroix,

Balenciaga--

Balenciaga did an entire collection

Of painted-- I mean, guys.

She needs to take a fashion history course, right?

But is the creativity and talent there? Absolutely.

What do you guys think about leanne?

Well, the trickiest thing to do

Is make complicated clothes look easy.

And her clothes looked very unfettered.



She thinks about a sustainable fabric,

And she's thinking

What's next.

She has an elegant, sophisticated,

Polished approach.

It could look very granola. Very easy.

That's what I love about it.

-And hers doesn't. -It doesn't at all.

And it was her own.

I mean, you could see immediately, it's leanne.



In the petal architecture.

That is my apprehension.

Can she really evolve from that,

You know, one concept?



I am very impressed with korto's silhouettes

And her desire to bring in the african heritage.

I loved the overall look of the collection.



When it's complicated but deceptively simple.

Like the last dress

Was a classic halter dress just done askew.



Just enough to keep my interest,

But at the same time, not get overworked.



To dress many sizes

In terms of the shape and the silhouette

And what works best for a woman,

And I think that's a gift.

So this is a really tough decision.

Do you think we're doing the right thing?

I think so.
